My only decision is do I go with the digital download or pick up the box? (When you have a 2 year old running around, discs and amiibo become expensive and fragile toys)
@shigulicious Picked up my copy several years ago when the Wii was new and Cube games were plentiful at the local re-seller. So glad I've kept it (and several other Cube gems that have totally shot up in value over the years).
Possibly couldn't care less about what analysts have to say. Nintendo needs to utilize a massive marketing campaign for their NX and upcoming mobile games, plain and simple.
Disc cases are like album covers. Sometimes they're more entertaining than the games themselves. And there is something cool about being able to look at your game collection, like a movie collection. That being said, the convenience of downloading games when you've got a small child around is priceless. Spent the extra cash on a good exterior drive for the U and SD card for the 3DS. I never worry about him getting into my collection and the chances of my wife and I leaving a disc laying around are minimal since I've been downloading nearly everything. Sure, some games might warrant a physical copy purchase (Like the Xenoblade X special edition). But for a guy who just wants to jump right into a game and not worry about where he might find it in a few days, or God forbid, it gets damaged or broken, downloading has been the way to go.
3 things that are important to me, even though in all honesty I'll have the NX preordered and picked up at midnight launch no matter what. 1) stay far far away from the Wii name. 2) account system and all my downloaded Wii U VC games making the transfer to the NX right off the bat. 3) a proper marketing campaign. Any marketing campaign would be better than what they did with the U.
@mjharper Gen 1 was the Magnavox Odyssey. Gen 2 was the era that included the 2600, Colecovision and IntellIvision. Then the great crash of 83 that only a few of us can remember.
Not my first system (that honor goes to Colecovision), but the system that holds the keys to so many great memories as a kid in the 80s. Happy birthday NES.
Why spend money on producing Nintendo Directs when you can have leaks like this happen for free? I was more surprised by the sheer number of titles more than anything. Granted, several will never make it out of Japan, but the list is much longer than I thought.
@rjejr My pleasure, I was curious myself. We're probably among only a few N-life members who remember playing the original version in its trackball glory.
@rjejr Had to look that up on Wiki, looks like the XBox360 got an HD remake back in 2007. Seems there was a Jaguar version back in the 90s too. It just doesn't seem the same without a trackball pinching your fingers though.
This is getting to be almost a daily routine here. Using social media to make threats, brag, and try to gain their 15 minutes of fame through violence. In a way they got their wish: their names, arrest and intent are all now part of the news cycle. I wish there was a way to curb sorry individuals like this by not giving them the fame they look for, but it is truly news and needs to be reported.
I remember back in the day both games getting some love. (Sorry) Wasn't into tennis games at the time, they weren't really my racquet. (Ugh) Picked up a copy of the GBC Mario Tennis years later, found it quite fun. It's rpg elements giving it an advantage over its N64 counterpart. (So sorry, I'll stop)
Not everyday you see a Spaceman Spiff reference in a patent filing. Bill Watterson doesn't license out his art for literally anything other than his own books.
There should be a "running of Nintendo" sim (Nintendo's Ambition perhaps?), since speculating about Big N's future has been a favorite hobby of gamers and analysts for years. Michael Pachter could finally do all the evil things he's wanted to do to Ninty from the comfort of his own couch.
I might not have always agreed with his policies, but he was truly an innovator who loved his job and bringing joy to millions of people. A CEO who brought his personality, heart, and soul into an industry where the top brass is usually pretty stuffy. A glass was raised in your honor last night sir.
Been saying for years that the Big N needs new leadership at the top, usually it's met with disdain, now I get to beat that drum again. Can it be any more obvious that this company is completely out of touch with the West by the continued head scratching moves it makes? The 3rd party abandonment, the horrible press that is ignored, the call for an account system constantly ignored, the severe (almost comical) lack of relevant advertising, game droughts that last for months, and well, we all saw what E3 looked like this year. I could go on, but the point is made.
Really do love my Wii U, it's probably my 2nd favorite all time system behind the 'Cube. But I can't help but wonder how it's lifespan would've been different had Big N handled things "better" from the start. -Actual and active marketing. -Account system. -The name. Just slapping a 2 after a Wii would've been better. -And some better PR/damage control after a TON of initial negative press the system had after launch.
@IceClimbers All I have to do is look at the massive dropped ball opportunity that Nintendo had when Dancing with the Stars did a Mario-themed dance and it was followed up commercially by... nothing. NOTHING. Splatoon, MK8, SSB, have all had their dedicated commercials, but still nothing like the campaigns that MS/Sony have been running for years. I'm sorry, but as much as I love the Big N, their marketing strategies are weak and uninspired.
Until Big N changes their advertising and marketing strategies, their hardware numbers are going to be lagging. By "changes" I mean actually using advertising and marketing.
Fun game, wrapped up my first play through in years this afternoon. TYD is still my favorite of the series, but 64 holds up quite well to this day. 8/10
Reggie using his hands on the old NES Power Pad literally made me laugh out loud... really took me back. Loving Big N's approach to E3. Its supposed to be fun, and they're making it that way. Curious to see if MS/Sony will be trying to follow suit.
I remember a friend in college having a TurboGrafx-16, but didn't know there was a followup console that never made it over the pond. Amazing how much of a mess the console wars were in the way back of the early 90s. Neat article, great read on a saturday morning, keep these little history lessons coming.
This is no good. Grew up on a steady diet of NES era Konami. Hope they recover, they're a big part of gaming history. Maybe if we all punched in the Konami Code, something good will happen.
Hats off to the people who did this for their departed friend. The fact that its a VB is irrelevant, whats important is keeping a memory alive through a selfless act. Very cool.

Re: Video: Take a Look at the Famicom 3D System
This might be a dumb question on the 3D topic. Didn't the Gamecube also have 3D enabled hardware that was never used?

Sounds like an updated version of 1980's classic Missile Command... only far less fun and entertaining. Might have to dust off the 2600 later.
