Re: Talking Point: With Calls for Nintendo to Follow the Crowd, It Faces a Dilemma

ajcismo

I'm seeing Mr.Iwata stepping down as boss man sometime during Wii U's run. Wouldn't be surprised if Reggie gets the axe too because of it. Nintendo then enters the phone market with a partner (like say, Apple) and we get the N-phone. Complete with a tiny Mario hat resting on an apple engraved on the back.
Sounds crazy, I know, and skewer me if you must. I just don't know how long the shareholders are going to hold off the wolves before someone gets tossed to them.

Re: StreetPass Relay Issues Reported in North America

ajcismo

My job takes me to several relay places like McDonalds and a few malls that utilize the service in my area... Honestly I've gotten several more hits these past few weeks than normal. Probably just as many as I have since summer began. Even completed a few puzzles in the process, they're addictive little buggers.

Re: Talking Point: The Wii U May Be Playing Catch-Up With Some Developers, But Money Always Talks

ajcismo

Its a good topic, but one that has been ongoing since the N64 era and with no end in sight for as long as Nintendo makes its own consoles. Sure, money talks, but Big N loves being the one in control, and their treatment of outsiders has been well documented for literally decades. The only way I see 3rd party devs getting on board and staying on board is if their next console, or down the road, involves somebody like, say, Apple.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Reiterates That There's "Nothing to Announce in Terms of an Ambassador Program"

Everyone wants something for nothing. "Its not fair!" they cry. Then...
Why did you buy a brand new system at launch? History tells us that there will be a price drop/bundle deal at some point within a years time. This was predicted by several people who frequent this site (myself included).
Just watch this next year with the PS/xBone, we'll see a cheaper model of both (with some different features) by Holidays of 2014. Just because you bought early, doesn't mean you deserve squat when the price goes down later. Electronics get cheaper the longer they're available. Besides, the system needed a price drop to move units so that we don't have to hear "doom & gloom" every friggin' day.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Low-Key Approach to the 2DS and Wii U Price Cut Reveals Wasn't Surprising

ajcismo

Haven't read any of the comments, just dropping my 2-cents...
New Pokemon game + device designed for the 7-and under crowd at a friendly price = $$$ for Nintendo, plus a new generation of kids are hooked.
Its not made for adults, although I'm sure a few will buy just to have gear. I think its a pretty neat idea for people who have smaller kids. Can see why they're doing it, the market is there.

Re: Metroid Fan Film Fundraising Campaign Demolished After Claim From Nintendo

ajcismo

I'm a member of ASCAP and totally understand why Big N pulled the plug on this. Even in good faith and doing fan films out of love for a franchise, copyright infringement is a serious thing. Those of you who think its no big deal, or Nintendo is wrong, try copyrighting an original piece of music or art or game and tell me how you feel when somebody uses it without permission and you don't see a dime for it.

Re: Talking Point: Gamescom Announcements Raise the Stakes for the Wii U and 3DS

ajcismo

This media-driven contest is Sony's to lose. The only people who are excited for MS and its spybox are the people who work there and EA.
The Wii U will wind up being a good companion console to the PS4, which I don't have any problem with. Wouldn't put it past Ninty to do an unannounced price-drop sometime around, if not the day of, one of the other launches too. A Windwaker 32GB bundle for $299 would make consumers take notice.

Re: Pokémon X & Y Japanese Pre-Orders Pass a Quarter of a Million in Two Days

ajcismo

@chucknorrmis
Last I checked, the Wii U needed a sales boost & Nintendo likes to make money. Outdated concepts of a nearly 20 year old franchise don't hold water to me with the likes of Miiverse and cross-platform gaming between the 3DS and the U. Not adjusting to the current times and tech has kept Big N the laughing stock for years now in the industry. Don't really care if you don't like the question, its been asked quite a bit over the years and it should continue to be asked as the tech goes beyond just being on a handheld.

Re: Pokémon X & Y Japanese Pre-Orders Pass a Quarter of a Million in Two Days

ajcismo

This might be a dumb question... but why again isn't there a Pokemon RPG for the Wii U? Even making any of the generations available on the VC, doing trades/battles via Miiverse, might move a system or 2.
My mind is blown by the missed opportunity Nintendo has with the cash printing machine that is Pokemon... and how none of its past games are on either Virtual Console.

Re: Former Nintendo Marketing Specialist Sheds Light on Smash Bros. as a "Dangerous" Brand at EVO

ajcismo

Good stuff there. Oddly enough my own personal favorite console is the Gamecube. The Wii U is right up there for me too, especially as the VC grows, yet neither has caught on with the mass public.
His point about a brand from 2 gens ago somehow promoting the brand today is really interesting. It speaks more to the lack of intelligence of the mass public than gamers who pay attention. Sort of like the "confusion" between the Wii and Wii U (seriously, read the friggin' box). Analysts can speculate all they want, but I fear the current "failures" of the Wii U will be happening to MS/Sony as well. It'll be spun differently, and the western media treats, especially MS, with kid gloves, but I wouldn't expect their systems to fly off the shelves in 2014 either.

Re: Talking Point: Wii U and Third-Party Inconsistencies Pose Questions for Console Owners

ajcismo

3rd Party Devs have too much power in the industry at the moment. My own interest in titles from the likes of the "Big 3" (EA, Activision, and Ubi) has been of the little-to-none variety. I'm not part of the demographic they like (12-25 year olds), stopped being into the Madden/CoD's after the PS2/Cube era, and I see through most of their crap after years of being a gamer and paying attention to history. Plus the quality of their games have been so inconsistent at best, despite the fact they're major studios with bigger budgets. This gen is about 1st party, retro and Indie games to me, anything beyond that I can play on my PC.

Re: Review: Turok: Dinosaur Hunter (Nintendo 64)

ajcismo

A 5? Normally I'm on board with most reviews, but completely disagree. Pre-dating Goldeneye and the console FPS Golden Era, it does show its age, sure (seriously, what N64 game doesn't show its age?). But it also ushered in interesting weapons, fantastic audio and ego-crushing difficulty. I suppose the controls are subjective, but I always loved how tight they were with this game. Its an "8" in my book and worth dusting off, if not for the Alien Weapon alone.
