Man, it's upsetting because I want this really bad but there's no way I'm risking my console getting bricked. It's also too wide. That shelf already has a GameCube, Wii, Wii U, Switch, and GBA Consolizer on it.
As someone who collects amiibo and owns over 150 of them, I see absolutely nothing wrong with pirating the data from them. Self-righteous grandstanders like mesome713 can shriek about how it's morally wrong all they want but I find it morally wrong that the damn things aren't available and have significant content locked behind them.
Take Samus Returns for instance. If you want to play Fusion mode then you have to have the squishy metroid amiibo. That is going to run you ~$50. That's an entire difficulty mode with a new costume that costs dramatically more to play than the actual game. The Wolf Link amiibo unlocks an AI companion in Breath of the Wild. I got TP Wii U at launch, got all the heart containers, played through the amiibo dungeon, and used my Shiek amiibo to heal right before I left the final room to get a fully powered Wolf Link for BotW legitimately. If you want to have that cool experience, Wolf Link is ~$30 out of box so have fun paying double the MSRP.
It is repugnant that Nintendo has allowed this to happen. Nintendo is locking people out of major content because they don't have a figure or card that's only available for inflated prices on the secondary market. If Nintendo wants to complain about this (which they haven't so far) then they can either sell cards of all the figures or they can make their own dongle that lets you pay to put figure data on it. Until then, pirate away because you were never meant to pay what these things are going for now based on the MSRP.
Oh and if you say you should have bought then when they were new, that isn't an argument because some of these weren't possible to get new. I remember sitting out in front of a GameStop at 4AM in the rain with a wet foot after stepping in a puddle for Wave 3 and there were people behind me who didn't get any of the new amiibo because the store had so few. Acquiring these things has always been a problem and while I found the hunt fun, most didn't.
It'd be great if someone made one that booted straight to Dolphin and could still used the disc drive so you could play original games except it rendered them all in 4K 60fps.
This isn't hard people! Either buy it digitally or buy it from a website and have it shipped. Don't risk infection or infecting some poor retail worker. There really aren't many stores you should be leaving your house to go to. The grocery, pet store, and pharmacy are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head and that's if you can't get that stuff delivered.
I never really liked Cloud or VII in general. I can see why people do but the English localization of VII is really bad and made it hard for me to get invested. I can tell the original Japanese script was good and if someone like Ted Woolsey had done the translation it would have been great but sadly he left before VII came out. The only character from VII I connected with was Tifa because she seemed like a down to earth bro who'd be fun to hang out with.
That's really hard because the US one is super boring and generic but the other two look absolutely terrible. I'm going to go with the US version because it tells you it's a soccer game, which is all it really needs to do, without subjecting you to extremely off-putting imagery.
As much as I'd love to have Bayonetta 2 on a machine capable of running it at 4K60, I don't think Nintendo will allow it. Honestly they shouldn't either. They paid for that game to be made so they get to have it on their system. It sucks some people can't play it but I'd rather it exist at all.
I'm getting it for Xbox One X but I could see a Switch port doing well if they got it to work. For games like this I want to sit in my darkened game room for hours and play it on the big 4K TV in surround sound. I want the best quality console version I can get. I'd do PC but I can't bring myself to sit in front of a computer that long.
I think it may impact holiday sales this year and next because people only have so much money to spend on game machines but the Switch is more of a complement to a next gen console than an alternative. You aren't buying a Switch to play the latest, most technologically advanced games like you are with PS5 and XBSX. You're buying it to play fun Nintendo games both at home and portably. And streaming isn't a threat because Switch is going to be retired before the infrastructure is there to make streaming viable portably.
For once the Japanese one is clearly the worst. The European version is my favorite but I really like the early US pixel art boxes. It loses points for not being accurate to what the game really looks like though.
I really hope they didn't do this to a working Virtual Boy. You can add an RGB out port to the system would let you hook it up to your TV with Genesis Model 1 SCART cables and still use it the way it was originally intended.
I own over 1000 games so if we lowball it and say they average out to be worth $10 each (I have stuff like a mint condition copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga and all three Zelda CDI games that balance out the lower stuff stuff) that would get us to $10,000. I'd probably put it closer to $15,000 but maybe I'm being optimistic. Not that I'd ever sell my collection because I adore it.
I'm going with the Japanese one because at least that one is representative of the game. They're all terrible NA with its distinctive but silly looking cat eye zombie and EU being so generic it could be for any zombie horror thing. The Japanese one is boring but at least it has Leon and Claire on it with a Raccoon City background from the beginning of the game. Also it's weird that I'm writing this while taking a bathroom break from playing RE2 Remake on my Xbox.
If you're heavily into games you pretty much have to have at least 2 systems because there's a lot of great stuff not released on Switch and vice versa. Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order was my game of the year last year. Can't play that on Switch and I wouldn't want to because it was so gorgeous on Xbox One X. Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 were also phenomenal games that you can't play on Switch. Then again the Switch has the best exclusive games because Nintendo is the best developer in the industry.
That's harsh but true. It needs folders and the ability to adjust icon sizes like what they added to the 3DS. My only hope is it doesn't make the system run worse like that 3DS update did on older systems. It's still nowhere near as bad as the Xbox One though. Microsoft can't design an operating system to save their lives.
It's a mainline console Zelda game. They take forever to make but are almost always worth the wait. To quote the weird old toy repair guy from Toy Story 2: "You can't rush art!"
"smartphone-inspired portability" This right here is how can tell this was written by some millennial who has no idea what they're talking about. No, the portability isn't smartphone inspired. Nintendo has been making portable games since before cell phones were even available on the consumer market. Calculator-inspired portability would be more accurate because that's where Gunpei Yokoi got the idea for a portable game.
@Thorthegreat12 So did Majora's Mask and it took way longer to make then they planned. Plus they made it sound in interviews like they were taking their time making BotW2. I hope I'm wrong because I really want to play it but as a lifelong Zelda fan, I've learned to expect the next big mainline game to take forever and suffer multiple delays.
@Thorthegreat12 I give it 1:4 chances of happening. Not out of the realm of possibility but still very unlikely. As much as I'd love to see it (and I would absolutely love to see it), console Zelda games are always slow to be released and they trickle the trailers out really slowly. If it comes out in 2020, it'll be holiday at the earliest. I'd still put my money on 2021 though. It takes time to make games that are as good as Zelda almost always is.
I own all the Smash, Zelda, Spatooon, and Monster Hunter ones. I have a few Mario and Animal Crossing ones and I bought most of the one-offs like Soltaire and Chibi Robo. I probably have over 120 of the damn things at this point. I haven't counted because I don't really want to know.
For me I got a PSVR 5 game bundle (still need to check out Breath of the Wild on it), Doom VFR, Eve Valkyrie, and Zone of the Enders to play on it. I got Indivisible for PS4 and I also got some Metroid and Zelda tshirts on sale.
For presents I bought my mom, housemate, and godmother some Black Rifle Coffee and I got my housemate an illustrated biography of Yoshitaka Amano and the Godzilla Criterion Collection. Not everything was on sale but I got it all around Black Friday. Also I'm broke until Friday.
I'm not getting the game unless my housemate says it's good. I haven't beaten a Pokemon game since Diamond and I've bought almost all of them. If this one shakes it up then fine, otherwise I'll keep playing Death Stranding and maybe Star Wars Fallen Order if that gets good reception (I don't trust EA but Respawn is great).
"If you're easily offended you're in big trouble"
Honey, I read 4Chan's /b and /pol boards for shock value laughs. I'm the opposite of easily offended.
It'd be kinda great to get a Sonic Adventure remake. There's so much they could do to make that game better like fix bugs so you don't clip through the floor, make it prettier, fix the ghastly facial animations, redo Tails voice so it doesn't sound like it was recorded in a bathroom. Basically that game is kinda a mess but there's a decent game in there if it was remade.
This is embarrassing for Nintendo. I am by no means a stickler for frame rate but I was noticing it tank constantly for seemingly no reason and it really detracted from the presentation. Sure it wasn't game breaking but it took me out of an otherwise wonderful experience. Link Between Worlds ran at a rock solid 60FPS with the 3D on and looked wonderful. I don't understand why they couldn't manage that here. And if they couldn't then give me an option to lock the framerate at 30FPS so I don't ever see it drop.
Nintendo needs to just bite the bullet and fix all drift issues for free. Yeah it'll cost a fortune but it's worth the hit to keep their reputation for hardware excellence in tact. I've been lucky to avoid the issue on mu launch system (probably because I play mostly docked with a Pro controller) but it seems widespread.
I'd love an Adventure of Link remake that added a bunch of additional areas and sidequests, made the combat easier (with a Master Mode that was as brutal as the NES game), and redid the graphics with the animation quality of Wario Land Shake It.
I mean, it would be nice to have a Switch port but it kinda runs like crap in my PS4 Pro. Pretty sure it's only in 1080p on the Pro (lower on base PS4) and I remember noticing framerate drops. It's weird because it doesn't look like it should be that demanding. Kingdom Hearts 3 runs at a near constant 60FPS in 1080p on the Pro and looks utterly gorgeous.
NA is my choice. It's got the biggest picture of Kyle Reese, the title text being at an angle is visually engaging and the black background contrasts well with the blue and yellow text. I also like that the titular Metal Gear is on there letting you know what the final boss would have been if Konami hadn't inexplicably replaced it with a computer in the NES version.
@TechaNinja As soon as I see that crap in a review I immediately disregard it. Duke Nukem 3D is misogynistic as hell but it's still one of the best FPS' of all time. The misogynistic content doesn't make the game worse.
I really want to get it for Switch but if it's got 4K support on PS4 Pro or Xbox One X then that's the version I'm getting. I plan on playing this baby on my big TV with my roommate. Streets of Rage 1-3 are some of our go to games when we just want to chill and play a game together.
@sikthvash Not really. I mean, I had to use save states to beat it because it's so brutally difficult and I still count it as having beaten the game. I struggled more with it than any other Zelda game and I've beaten all of them. Next time I'm just going to play on original hardware and use Game Genie to give myself unlimited lives because seriously that game is HARD!
I went and spent the money to get the Ultra HDMI mod. It's absolutely gorgeous and I don't regret it but $410 for a premodded system is a lot to swallow. I was upscaling N64 with S-Video through a Framemeister and it was not giving me the results I wanted. The Ultra HDMI mod is marvelous on its own but the fact that it undoes the damage that the hardware antialiasing does to the image makes it the best option for people who want the highest quality.
Although with the Super 64 there is the benefit of just being able to plug it in and have it work and output the best quality video the system's capable of without a mod. I guess it's up to you if that's worth $150. Make sure to use a Funtastic console though because those have better S-Video encoders.
The best Pokemon rom hack is Pokemon Vietnamese Crystal. Basically the Vietnamese translated Pokemon Crystal from Japanese to English. Badly. It's one of the funniest things I've ever played.
If Mariko is a partner chip for Logan I wonder if it would be in the dock of the Pro model. In handheld mode it would be the same as the mini but it would allow them to push more pixels when it's being output to a TV and needs the extra resolution. If they did the checkerboard rendering like the PS4 Pro does they could probably make it look great on a 4K screen.
The Ultra HDMI mod is $165 plus an install is probably about $80 when you include shipping both ways. That's a lot more than this thing but holy crap is it going to be better. Seriously, the deblur functionality of the Ultra HDMI is a literal game changer. I can't go back to an unmodded N64 after playing it. I don't care what they put into this to scale it, it won't beat the Ultra HDMI and if you're going to drop some serious cash on your N64 then you should probably just go with that.
This thing looks terrible which is a shame because the N64 desperately needs a good clone solution. The original hardware outputs terrible video quality with horrible antialiasing that smears the image to crap. They only way to play it in good quality is the Ultra HDMI mod. I'm lucky enough to have that and it's amazing but I had to spend $400 on a modded system. If we could get a cycle accurate fpga solution that would be great. However I seriously doubt it'll come from Hyperkin. Maybe Analog will cook something up.
The lack of gyro and HD Rumble kinda kills it for me. I'd pay $80-$100 for this if it had those but without them (especially gyro) I'm not really interested.
I like the American one the best even though it was created in a day. The use of shadow to obscure her face and the laser on the gun looks badass and totally evokes the covert operations you'll be embarking on in the game. Plus it looks like the more primitive early CGI which has an aesthetic I'm fond of.
My DS4 is modded to have two remappable rear buttons that I can hit with my middle fingers. If this thing lets me use the DS4 gyroscope to aim then this will let me jump without taking my thumb off the stick in Splatoon 2. That would be awesome!
I genuinely loved Sonic Forces. I went in expecting it to be terrible because most Sonic games are and was blindsided by a really fun and enjoyable game. It definitely needed more time in the oven but I was shocked at how fun it was. It's one of three Sonic games I liked along with Mania and 3 & Knuckles. I've played a lot of Sonic games too. (unpopular opinions incoming)
Sonic 1 isn't very good, 2 is okay but nothing special, 3 & Kuckles is great, 3D Blast is tedious, Adventure 1&2 were crap except for the speed stages, Heroes sucks, Shadow is awful, 06 is a farcical mess, Black Knight sucked, Colors is okay, Generations is decent but overrated, Lost world is confused, Mania is better than 3 & Knuckles, Forces is fun as hell, Pocket Adventure isn't bad, The Advanced trilogy is acceptable, and Rush 1 is cheap and frustrating.
That covers the ones I've played. I have a weird relationship with Sonic because, while I don't like many of the games, I find them very interesting to play and criticize.
I like that Nintendo doesn't try to force console games on mobile. Everything is designed for the platform and their monetization doesn't seem to be overly predatory. Mario Run and Infinity Blade are still my favorite mobile games ever.

How do you screw that up? It's disappointing but Game Freak isn't going to improve so long as the games are still selling like they are. What I worry about is irreparable damage being done to the franchise if they keep continuing to turn in the bare minimum effort. I'd like to see two teams working on Pokemon. That way Game Freak isn't overworked and rushed and they have some friendly competition to encourage them to keep improving.

@TechaNinja As soon as I see that crap in a review I immediately disregard it. Duke Nukem 3D is misogynistic as hell but it's still one of the best FPS' of all time. The misogynistic content doesn't make the game worse.
Re: Streets Of Rage 4 Details To Be Revealed Next Week
I really want to get it for Switch but if it's got 4K support on PS4 Pro or Xbox One X then that's the version I'm getting. I plan on playing this baby on my big TV with my roommate. Streets of Rage 1-3 are some of our go to games when we just want to chill and play a game together.
Re: Inti Creates President Elaborates On 'That' Zelda II Remake Comment
@sikthvash Not really. I mean, I had to use save states to beat it because it's so brutally difficult and I still count it as having beaten the game. I struggled more with it than any other Zelda game and I've beaten all of them. Next time I'm just going to play on original hardware and use Game Genie to give myself unlimited lives because seriously that game is HARD!
Re: Hardware Review: The EON Super 64 Gives Your N64 HDMI Output, But Is It Really Worth $150?
Re: Feature: Inside The World Of Pokémon ROM Hacks
The best Pokemon rom hack is Pokemon Vietnamese Crystal. Basically the Vietnamese translated Pokemon Crystal from Japanese to English. Badly. It's one of the funniest things I've ever played.
Re: Digital Foundry Investigates New Chip Potentially Destined For Switch Mini And Switch Pro
Re: Play Your Nintendo 64 On Modern Displays With The Super 64 HDMI Adaptor
The Ultra HDMI mod is $165 plus an install is probably about $80 when you include shipping both ways. That's a lot more than this thing but holy crap is it going to be better. Seriously, the deblur functionality of the Ultra HDMI is a literal game changer. I can't go back to an unmodded N64 after playing it. I don't care what they put into this to scale it, it won't beat the Ultra HDMI and if you're going to drop some serious cash on your N64 then you should probably just go with that.
Re: Hyperkin Isn't Quite Sure What Route To Take With Its N64 Clone Console Yet
This thing looks terrible which is a shame because the N64 desperately needs a good clone solution. The original hardware outputs terrible video quality with horrible antialiasing that smears the image to crap. They only way to play it in good quality is the Ultra HDMI mod. I'm lucky enough to have that and it's amazing but I had to spend $400 on a modded system. If we could get a cycle accurate fpga solution that would be great. However I seriously doubt it'll come from Hyperkin. Maybe Analog will cook something up.
Re: We're In Awe Of Hori's Massive DAEMON X MACHINA-Themed Switch Joy-Con
The lack of gyro and HD Rumble kinda kills it for me. I'd pay $80-$100 for this if it had those but without them (especially gyro) I'm not really interested.
Re: Feature: Here's Why Perfect Dark Has Three Different Covers
I like the American one the best even though it was created in a day. The use of shadow to obscure her face and the laser on the gun looks badass and totally evokes the covert operations you'll be embarking on in the game. Plus it looks like the more primitive early CGI which has an aesthetic I'm fond of.
Re: New Adapter Will Let You Use Switch Controllers With Your PS4 And Vice Versa
My DS4 is modded to have two remappable rear buttons that I can hit with my middle fingers. If this thing lets me use the DS4 gyroscope to aim then this will let me jump without taking my thumb off the stick in Splatoon 2. That would be awesome!
Re: Takashi Iizuka Believes The Blue Blur Has "Turned A Corner" Following The Release Of Sonic Mania
Re: Mobile Business Is Booming For Nintendo Right Now
I like that Nintendo doesn't try to force console games on mobile. Everything is designed for the platform and their monetization doesn't seem to be overly predatory. Mario Run and Infinity Blade are still my favorite mobile games ever.
