If you're wanting to store your beloved digital Switch games in style, you'll struggle to find a micro SD card any cooler than this one.
Yes, an Animal Crossing-themed micro SD has been added to Nintendo's officially-licensed range of SanDisk cards. It's the biggest of the lot, boasting 512GB of storage compared to the 64, 128 and 256GB options available in other designs.
The older designs are significantly cheaper, and you'll find much better value for money by opting for a standard SD card, but if you can't resist the charms of the Animal Crossing design, you can pick one up from Amazon as we speak:

Maybe we'll get a Metroid 1TB card when Metroid Prime 4 eventually arrives? Not that we'd be able to afford it, mind...

This is very cool but i'm not buying it because of the price.
Oh WOW that's overpriced. Damn.
What’s the point of this if it just stays inside the switch all the time?
Store Your Switch Games In Style With This Animal Crossing-Themed 512GB SD Card for just 1.5x the price of a regular 512gb SD card
Cool. Pay more money for something you'll only ever see once.....
I have the 256gb power star card. Still have just over 200gb of space remaining so I should be good for awhile. I would have a lot less if I didn't always go for physical releases whenever possible. However as physical releases get less and less I may have to get a bigger card at some point
Not surprised at the high price, what with Tom Nook selling it
Yecch! I’ve seen regular MicroSD cards of similar go for cheaper than that even without factoring in sales! You’re essentially paying extra cash for the licensing here.
lol just bought this a week ago from Amazon. Might see if I can get a partial refund - but not going to cry over it.
Does Amazon take bells?
There's also a 400gb Blue Shell card. It's currently on sale for $60 (down from $179.99, yikes) at Best Buy.

Are the themes in order of size of the franchise?
When looking at the Japanese sales numbers it certainly looks that way.
If only I were an eccentric rich guy-- If only I were a rich guy.
@masterLEON Unfortunately that one’s on backorder, you wouldn’t get it until after Christmas.
I guess this new model proves that these sell despite the markup or the general pointlessness of having a Nintendo-branded design on a device no bigger than a cornflake. So is it people who just don't know better, or people scared off by rampant SD card fakery?
@kupocake Probably the former, the latter’s pretty easy to figure out if you look at who’s selling ‘em and for what price.
@ZebZed Depending on location, someone could still pick these up in-store/curbside. I'm in NYC, and as of this second there are still a couple stores in the city, and more in the boroughs, where they're available (checking local availability). Other cities, I'm not sure.
Amazon has 512gb Samsung EVO Select microSD cards available for £60 right now, that's a bit better for value don't you think?

Already have one. Bought one black friday last year for around £65 I think it was. Wouldn't mind a decently priced 1 TB one though
The price is a joke. I'm waiting for Black Friday to upgrade my 256GB card.
This is surely some sort of experiment, or they are just taking the piss.
@Burning_Spear
512gb microSD prices are at a historic low on Amazon US and UK right now.

These make great eye candy, but the standard Sandisk SD cards are often cheaper. I bought my 256 GB card off Amazon for about $30 USD. I mostly buy physical, so it'll be awhile before it fills up.
@RupeeClock you can get a 2TB external hard drive for the same price.
I hate how Nintendo went for MicroSD for a home console. They need to move into the current era of gaming and storage with more games going fully digital - Doom Eternal is going to 35gb+ for example.
I've already got one that size and it cost me only about £30 during an amazon sale.
Thanks, but no thanks!
The insane gouging prices of nintendo branded micro sd cards creates a terrible, dishonest image for nintendo. I can't believe they do this.
@ChaosBadger777
Have you forgotten that the Switch is a portable console?
Crazy inflated price just to get AC branding on it!
If someone wants to retire their previous card and do a give away, just know that I am taking.
@RupeeClock not at all, but it would have been nice to have the option for those who wanted it.
There are loads of games I would buy on the switch but don't because storage is an issue - I hate having to delete games when I want to buy a new one.
@AlienX Yubby dibby dibby dibby dibby dibby dibby dum. 😂
@masterLEON thank you for that link. I’ll be ordering it this week. ❤️
@RupeeClock Wow, thank you! Are Samsung cards as good as SanDisk cards?
@Burning_Spear
I've been using Samsung cards for ages and they're great.
@Juga It's been so long since I've had it I honestly can't remember. I want to say it came FAT32 but don't quote me on that. Apologies!
No thanks
I grabbed SanDisk 512GB for $60 at Best Buy
@jamesthemagi same Plus i have the zelda disk its so helpful
Officially licensed means officially over priced. It was the same starting with the Wii and those SD cards because sticking the Nintendo name on them meant they didn't drop in price for ages when compared to the same capacity of the exact same card without the Nintendo branding. Also since you will rarely if never see the card the designs are moot.
Would be nice if they mentioned about the amount of space advertised is not the amount of space you actually get.
I recently got a 400gb SD card but ended up with around 360gb available space I can actually use. Heard that you can't use around 10% of the advertised gb space on an SD card.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Was contemplating it until I saw the price. I don’t mind paying a little extra for an official Nintendo design (already own the 256GB with the star) but at that price knowing I’ll probably never fill my current card I’ll give it a miss
There's no reason to buy a themed SD card. It's never visible...
Anyway, I got a 1tb card in my Switch now anyway.
Do not buy Nintendo listened SD cards, they are the exact same thing as normal as cards!
@wazlon From what I understand it’s depends on what if the device the SD card is inserted into uses a binary or decimal system.
Why can't we get the 512 GB for a discount too?
@BoyfriendOfDeath Because this is a new product as far as retailers are concerned.
Good lord. 1tb micro sd cards were on sale a few weeks ago for $180 on Amazon and they will probably hit the $150 mark for black Friday. No idea who buys these branded ones.
Micro SD cards are definitely the piece of modern tech that blows my mind most.
Yes, PCs, Xbox Series and PS5's are all very techncally impressive but they are kind of what I expected hardware to do as they go forward. On the other hand, having hundreds and hundreds of GB of storage on something that's physically sized smaller than a postage stamp. Everytime I think about that is just, wow.
But I digress - why would anyone sensible pay extra for a branded Micro SD that you're only ever going to look at one or two times?
@Cinaclov I honestly don’t know, I regularly take out my SD card to copy screenshots taken with the Switch’s capture button but even then I’d rather have the cheaper design-less one.
