@PapaMurphy Totally pumped for Sports Story as well! I do want them to take the time to get it right, and I seem to recall Golf Story went through some delays. Hopefully any delay will be for the better!
@JimmySpades Yes, this is a point I&F have made it interviews, but NL has left it out of the article. I think it’s totally reasonable such a small team, making their first game with a new engine, would want to focus their efforts rather than aim for a multiplatform release. In some ways Microsoft offers them the closest thing to a broad release, as Microsoft’s tools help teams develop for PC and Xbox simultaneously.
I don’t play games on Microsoft platforms so I won’t be playing it, but I understand their decision. Just means a longer wait for the next Steamworld game!
@Tao I thought the same when SRG announced Steamworld Quest, but I had no problem getting a copy. It took them a few weeks to sell through everything for Quest, so I think it won't be too hard to get a copy of either of these.
Not on Switch, but the most generous demo I’ve encountered was Pocket Card Jockey on 3DS. I don’t think there was a limit in how long you could play your horse, and there wasn’t that much more to the full game beyond what was in the demo. I eventually bought the full game after enjoying the demo for a good 12 hours. It is a fantastic game
@Darknilious Yeah, given this game and Civ play well on the Switch, it could definitely be done. Although I much prefer the older games, and not the more recent entries.
But if you enjoy HOMM, give this game a chance. It’s enjoyable in its own right!
@Lapses Just going off the demo, the AI didn’t seem terrible, but it’s hard to tell. In the original, much of the difficulty came either from the faction you play and their position on the map (some are surrounded by enemies and constantly under attack, others are fairly isolated and allowed to build up armies), and time limits on how long you have to conquer the map
FE is the wrong comparison for this game; it’s really a console version of the PC game Heroes of Might and Magic. Less resource management, simplified overhead map, but more extensive combat. The gameplay loop is really similar otherwise. I don’t think it’s as great as HOMM3, but I thought the original was enjoyable. Like the review notes, it’s slow pace can be oddly relaxing.
In the past week, I haven’t been able to buy anything on the eshop with a credit card, which has been quite annoying as I was wanting to pick up Horizon Chase while it’s on sale. I hope this fixes the issue.
There is a workaround (in NA at least): I was able to use my credit card on Nintendo’s website and the game was downloaded to my switch. A little inelegant to say the least.
This is a pretty big problem when Nintendo was recently bragging about their growing online sales...
I have never played actual golf, but World Tour on 3DS has made me appreciate the awesomeness of a good arcade golf game. While I would love a Mario Golf entry on Switch, there’s some great games on this list. Golf Story especially picks up the original Mario Golf template very well and I highly recommend it!
Agree with comment above for review knocking it for lack of touchscreen controls. The review doesn’t even discuss the games’s controls, let alone why touchscreen would be better. Is this a just a typo in the final list before scoring?
I’m excited for this and will try to pick it up. I’ve actually turned back to my 3DS during the pandemic to replay some Layton games. These games feel perfect for the Pandemic. When I finish, I might work through more of my 3DS backlog. It’s reminded me what a wonderful system it is, and how cool the 3D effect can be
@dok5555555 I’ve been wondering the same. LRG said orders were supposed to go up 3rd quarter 2019, but there’s been silence since. Does this switch maybe impact the 3ds release? LRG was going to release Xeodrifter and other Atooi games for $30, which seems a heck of a better deal than this...
@Gaymer90 I agree. This gives me strong HOMM vibes, which is a great thing! Another similar game coming out soon is Brigandine, which has a demo that is fairly decent.
What an unexpected surprise, I was a big fan of the PS1 original and never expected a sequel! I didn’t think it was a particularly popular or well known game on PS.
If it stays true to the original, it will combine a strategic map (similar to Civ) with grid-based battles (more like FE). It was a fun combo in the original, and I’ll be interest to see reviews of this sequel.
I saw the graphic for Advance Wars before reading this was just a top “wish” for release. Got me excited for a sec!
A little unfair in criticizing the fourth game. I agree it didn’t all work well, but I think developers should be encouraged to experiment and change up a franchise, otherwise it gets stale and repetitive!
@ Chris: great review, and I’ll have to give this a try now!
Can we expect reviews of some of the other recent off-kilter games released? I loved Eliminator Boat Duel back in the day, and it’s a gem that deserves to be better known.
I hope more high profile indies choose to go with super rare for their physical editions as they do a stellar job with their games. The super rare games that I’ve gotten have been of great quality. I thought the covers and included materials were of excellent design, and I really love the collectible cards for all their games.
More than I can say for Limited Run, which often has better games but seems to phone it in on some of its case designs and extras. The cover for my edition of Kingdom New Lands was downright ugly and grainy. I can barely even read the font on the back!
Not Seiko’s first video game-branded watch. They made some Super Mario themed watches a few years ago, much cheaper than this. I see them occasionally on eBay.
@BoFiS I stand corrected, I see the reference now, but calling it a “management adventure” seems faint praise indeed given the great game! Point and click adventures actually translate well to Switch, so this would be a great port to finally claim a great StarTrek title for a Nintendo platform!

I’m honestly sick of the speculation. Nintendo is really willing to try the patience of its fans...
Re: Soapbox: After Paper Mario: The Origami King, I Want More Comedy On Switch, Please
Not Nintendo made, but Ubisoft’s Mario Kingdom Battles had some great humor with Ninty characters, including with DK in the DLC.

Re: Relive Nintendo's Glorious Past With This Game Boy: The Box Art Collection Book

Re: SteamWorld Dig And SteamWorld Heist: Ultimate Edition Are Getting Physical Switch Releases
All are great games, but Dig seems like a much better deal as it contains two full games, whereas Heist is one game at the same price...

@Menardi While it’s not shown in the graphics, the article notes there is also a standard edition, which are usually $35 on LRG.
