Publisher Red Art Games has taken delivery of the long-awaited physical version of Atooi's excellent Xeodrifter and confirmed that it will begin shipping them out to customers next week. As you can see below in a post from Twitter, the standard box comes in a cardboard sleeve with some fetching art:
Fans of the physical article often have to wait a while after the digital release for a boxed cartridge version, and that's certainly the case for this indie Metroidvania, which launched over two years ago on the Switch eShop (and also released on Wii U and 3DS). Still, better late than never! It's a fun little game that we enjoyed when we reviewed it back in February 2018 (and on previous Nintendo consoles) - check out the trailer above if you need a refresher.
If you haven't pre-ordered this one but like the look of it, there are still copies available from Red Art's website. It's priced at 29,99€ and there were only 2800 copies produced, so we'd snap one up sooner rather than later if you can't get enough of those bitter little Switch cartridges.
It's like the old saying: "Good things come in small packages to those who wait." That's definitely right, no need for corrections in the comments, please. Will you be picking this indie gem up physically?

I've had this one pre-ordered from Red Art's website for some time now, I'm looking forward to it shipping.
This is probably the best game on their site so far, but it has the same problem as Downwell, the game is very very cheap on digital marketplaces.
The game is also available to purchase through Play-asia.

I really enjoyed this game when it first came out on the 3ds. Way too short though. I would love to see a bigger sequel.
I love cartridges, but I got this one free with gold coins when it was on sale. Can’t justify paying that price since I try never to invest in games.
@Joekun Yeah I think these indies with simple graphics like this work best as a cheap game to get on sale. Turn it into a higher priced physical sale and it loses it's appeal.
Xeodrifter is one of the very few games that I feel worked better on the 3DS than the Switch port. It's a steal if you can find it on sale for any system, but can't image anyone but the more serious collectors even humoring the price tag. Definitely falls under the "short & sweet" category.
@RupeeClock Unfortunately a physical version can only be made so cheap. Manufacturing costs be what they be.
Had it on preorder since the physical was announced. Can’t wait, the inside art looks good, but shame there is no instruction manual
@Indielink Definitely true. Thats why I always roll my eyes when people compare the price of Witcher 3 on Switch, which is a pretty nice package with a 32GB cartridge and a map, to the price on Steam when it’s on sale.
Whatever happened to the Limited Run Games release of the Atooi Collection for 3DS? It was announced almost a year ago now.
@Joekun For real, the Switch version will continue to drop in price. It's only been out a couple months and it's getting consistent 25% off at most US retailers. I get a good laugh when I see people on the SwitchDeals Reddit page moaning about Witcher 3.
Cute game but far too short. Needs a sequel.
Xeodrifter the comic book, when?
One of the most overrated metroidvanias out there. Not to say it's bad, but it is bare bones.
Game is whack
@dok5555555 I’ve been wondering the same. LRG said orders were supposed to go up 3rd quarter 2019, but there’s been silence since. Does this switch maybe impact the 3ds release? LRG was going to release Xeodrifter and other Atooi games for $30, which seems a heck of a better deal than this...
@XiaoShao
Atooi has a reputation for taking a long time to get anything developed or published, maybe because they're a small dev team or publication difficulties, or who knows.
The 3DS collection would be a case of needing to develop an individual 3DS title that can launch all of the promised games in the collection, as opposed to the Switch which can load multiple titles onto the home menu via a single game card.
@ZeldaFanboy78 By that logic, many games wouldn't have a physical release. Including a large number of Nintendo games.
@Desrever
I actually agree that it's not really worth the full price, I got it on sale like many others. Very short and sweet, but a lot of effort and love was put into it. Also, it's really fun on Switch if you use the Joy-Cons with HD Rumble set to max! I've had a blast with it personally, but it's not everyone's cuppa.🤔
A pretty decent game, but
SPOILERS
I hated how I was forced to kill the wounded bug at the end. Soured the whole experience, frankly.
@baller98 Thanks!
