Re: Triangle Strategy Gets Its First Character & Story Trailer

@Purgatorium For much of its history, imperial China relied on a salt monopoly for revenue, and efforts to evade this by smuggling salt were regarded as an effort to undermine the regime. So yes, salt smuggling could spark a war.

I often love SE games, but their English titles for games can be hit or miss. This isn’t the worst of their titles, but it seems like they could have come up with something better!

One of those who “wrongly” preferred Sierra here 🤗 The Quest for Glories series is one of my all time favorites, and GKII is another winner.

Honestly though, I never thought there was an equivalent of the console wars between Lucas and Sierra fans. I loved games from both, including the Monkey Island games and Fate of Atlantis. And I’m the first to admit Sierra had some misses; I always found the KQ games way too obtuse to be enjoyable.

Glad to see Contact on this list. Really great game that did some unique things! I wasn’t aware some publications trashed it when released. Who’s that referring to?

Re: Soapbox: Since When Did Physical Releases Stop Being About Physical Games?

@AndyC_MK84 Yes, the package was only published by NOA. Even in US, it was hard to get a copy. They sold out pretty fast!

You’re right that for most of the special editions, the interest in part is to have a physical game. Here though, the actual game is pretty mediocre by today’s standards, so my interest honestly wasn’t in playing it or keeping a cartridge. It was in remembering where the FE series started, and the legacy and influence it has had. On both counts, the package succeeds wonderfully.

Maybe they would have just been better served publishing the book standalone, so people wouldn’t expect a cartridge?

@Kabloop I would add Wave Race 64 to that list. The graphics are fuzzy, but the controls and wave physics are still just right and have aged pretty well.

I will concede the broader point though, that many games from the early 3D era have not aged well!
