@breach187 I think the problem is that the humans who wrote the info on those sites that AI stole will no longer write, because those humans don't work for free.
Websites predominantly rely on advertisements to pay their staff, their staff write content, AI steals the content written, people no longer visit the website, the website no longer can pay staff, staff are let go, AI no longer has content to steal. Internet dies.
That's the theory anyway, and it's proving true so far, with the number of sites going down and layoffs that are happening.
In the case of NL, for example, if Google's AI summarizes their game reviews and news in an AI summary, then NL will get paid nothing for their work, as most people will just read that AI summary and not click on NL, thus not giving NL any ad revenue. Eventually, NL would have to close, no more reviews or news.
@Olliemar28 I can haha, but more confused why the article seems surprised and hyping up that we "might" get Silksong news when we knew months ago we would.
@mariomaster96 Indeed, Xbox have confirmed it will be at their event tomorrow, almost certain that it will be shown today. Feel like Nintendo Life missed all the Silksong news that happened back in June with Xbox.
I still get confused about this "will we see Silksong?" meme when it was already confirmed that the game will be at Xbox's Gamescom event. It's not some game in the "ether" that we know nothing about, or when it may or may not appear. At least, not anymore.
@Vyacheslav333 Game Maker Studio is designed for 2D games, however. So doing a 3D game in Game Maker just isn't a great idea, the graphics pipeline isn't designed to handle 3D which is why it runs slowly.
Unity from a technical standpoint is much better for a 3D game, from an ethical standpoint, maybe not so much.
Unreal Engine games can be blurry, but that's usually developers using a low resolution to make the game run on Switch and then applying something like TAA, which won't work well with low resolutions and framerates. Unreal Engine games can look fine on the Switch, but a lot are blurry because they're trying to run very high-end games on a very low-end system. As Slave Zero X isn't a high-end game, using Unreal Engine 4 for it, for example, should have been perfectly fine on the Switch.
Even Nintendo use Unreal Engine for their games on the Switch now.
Unfortunately, the developers decided to use Game Maker (a 2D game engine) for Slave Zero X, as that was the application their lead dev was most familiar with, instead of using something more suited to this style of game like Unity or Unreal.
That's likely why there are performance issues. It's the same on PC, the Steam Deck, for example, struggles to hold 60 FPS at certain points in the game, even with the max power settings. It's kind of unacceptable for a largely 2D game with 3D backgrounds.
They designed their own 3D methods to use in Game Maker, but it isn't optimized for it, and Game Maker also can only support 1 thread, so it doesn't make use of multiple CPU cores/threads, so it's hard to say which is the issue on the Switch.
@steruphan No one does give them their money, that's probably why this is happening. GAME is the last major video game retailer in the UK, and it's probably going bust this year, so once it goes, the UK is pretty much bound to go 100% digital for video games.
Not looking good for them sadly. They sold off all their IP in 2022 to Tinybuild, so they don't own Surgeon Simulator or I Am Bread anymore.
They have 1 game announced that is still TBA as to when it'll launch, and they just went down from 60 staff to 40 staff, so likely delayed the game even further.
Yeah, as RG-Riven said, age ratings on digital storefronts are set by the developer, not PEGI themselves. When submitting to MS Store, Steam, PS Store, or Nintendo eShop, you fill out a survey of your game's content and it generates an automatic age rating.
So the age rating being incredibly inaccurate is first the developer's fault for lying, and then Nintendo's fault for giving the game the greenlight.
Nintendo really needs to get a tight rein on their eShop. They approve incredibly poor and stupid games, but I've known legitimate developers have their games refused by them.
@thiz The Shindou Pak Taiou revision of the game removes the Backwards Long Jump glitch, so it's not really possible to speedrun using the Japanese version that NSO is offering, as all speedrun categories use BLJ, unless it's one of the less popular side categories which ban it. The EU/NA ones will still allow it though.
Yeah, think it was a bit late in Gang Beasts life to release it on Switch. I hope it does well, but I can't imagine many people haven't already had a go with it, and it is the kind of game that you get bored of within the hour really.
I had it on Game Pass on my Xbox, played it a handful of times with friends, but I don't think we'd ever go back to it now we've experienced it.
@Grumblevolcano If they had sense they'd do a Gamecube expansion pack to add Gamecube boards, but it's likely they don't have sense.
For me personally it's great, as I still have Mario Party 2 and 3 as my favourite Mario Parties, but I wouldn't say no to a paid DLC for Gamecube content.
@Enriesto Hexagon Heat is the Mario Party 2 remake of Mushroom Mix-up in Mario Party 1.
So the gameplay itself is there, but in Mario Party 1, it was mushrooms that rose up and you had to quickly get to it. And I believe it was water, rather than lava in Mario Party 1.
@Williamfuchs420 I believe this uses their own voice chat system not Nintendo's. So I believe you can use a wired headset plugged into your Switch. You'd have to get confirmation from someone who has played though. But given how voice chat in this game works (private channels, as well as proximity chat) I don't believe Nintendo's system would work at all.
And yes you would on PC, although typing is naturally much faster on PC anyway. And I think PC users are more likely than anyone to have equipment with a microphone.
@Orangezap89 This isn't really related to Nintendo, it's more of a console issue.
PS/Xbox will have the same issue as Switch, where a headset is mandatory, and if you don't own one you're not going to be able to play a game like this.
Not saying the Switch doesn't have bad support for voice chat in general, but in this specific case, Switch has the same support as Xbox/PS.
I'm surprised Among Us works on Switch without voice chat, but Among Us does have the advantage that you can only talk when the game is "paused", Project Winter never pauses, so it relies on fast communication, like the review says, if you stop for 20-30 seconds to type out a message, you're dead.
@nhSnork It is made by the Flatout 1, 2 and Ultimate Carnage devs, they just don't own the rights to the Flatout name anymore.
Plays pretty good on PC, although I found the console release a little more limited than PC. The amount of AI allowed in multiplayer is limited on Xbox compared to PC for example. Possibly moreso on Switch.
@Dragonslacker1 The 2DS has a little "Sleep" slider at the bottom of the console to put it in sleep mode. I believe that functions (as far as software is concerned) the same as closing the lid on a DS or 3DS.
Saw Simpleflips play this on stream a few months ago, was a good watch.
The music is pretty good and the lyrics are comical/funny, I'd say it's worth picking up, although I'm not sure you'd replay it again once you've finished it once, a lot of the charm is in the lyrics, and that likely gets lost after you've heard it all before.
@Anti-Matter The boards are from the N64 games (Mario Party 1-3).
The minigames are at least from the N64 and Gamecube Mario Parties. It looks like they might have not featured minigames from Mario Party 8-10 (but 8-10 are the worst entries anyway). But there's at least one minigame from Mario Party 7 in the game. Most of the ones shown in the trailer were from Mario Party 1-3 from what I've seen.
MP2 & 3 are one of the best MP's though (Mario Party 1 not so much). I prefer them to Mario Party 4, and they're definitely better than Mario Party 8, 9 & 10, and in my opinion, Super Mario Party. Pretty much only 5-7 beat MP 2 and 3.
It's been in development over 10 years now, which is an awful long time for a game. It was originally meant to be a Wii U game, but missed the mark massively.
The official website still lists release as 2020 too, so it doesn't look like they really know when they plan to launch.
It's listed as Spring 2021 on Steam, but looks unlikely to meet that date, and the developers have communicated nothing on Steam in several months now.
Likely this is due to SDK's updating, and Google/Apple pushing for newer OS support, rather than anything specific to the app itself.
Newer IDE's for making programs are gradually removing support for older Android/iOS versions, and Google are changing restrictions on apps on 1st August, which has forced some app developers to update to newer versions of software they were using, it's possible they can't support Android 5 anymore because of this.
Apple in general don't like you supporting older iOS versions. New apps probably don't allow you to support iOS 8 for example. I know in 2019 at least, support for iOS 7 was removed from new apps.
Only about 5% of Android devices still run Android 5 and lower, so it's doubtful the developers see this as a platform worth supporting still, especially if it poses problems. That number will be below 5% when June comes around.
@KateGray In my games, I generally credit people where-ever possible, just to be safe. But I also usually don't do this type of business, where you're contracting someone for an extended period of time (several months). I always pay a flat-fee for a specific piece of work I want doing, to avoid any misunderstandings about contracts and fees.
For sure I know that Gabe/Lazyeye was the main guy who got the game to a release state. He said when the game had thousands of items, it slowed to a crawl, so he had to rewrite the looting and item system so that it would work on a large-scale.
But it is a valid question, Hopfrog is a company, with only 1 staff member, the lead dev of Forager. Technically his company made the game, using contracted workers. So does the credit lie with his company, or the workers? And how much work did his company do versus how much the workers did? Probably a question we can't answer.
At the very least, Forager's credits put the programmers under "Additional Programmers", so the game itself (at least once you're in it) never claimed to be the work of 1 man.
I'm fairly familiar with Foragers development, and for sure the guy didn't develop it solo.
He got it close to the end, and then said he couldn't get the game to work how he wanted, so began to outsource the development of the game to other programmers who were more capable. Most specifically he struggled with optimizing the game to run at acceptable speeds.
Vadim is very well known in the community as a very competent network programmer, and has added multiplayer to a few high-profile games, him asking for a contract doesn't surprise me given the high-profile nature of Forager too, if you're doing business on this level, you NEED a contract, if the developer doesn't give you one, something is wrong.
Given Vadim's track record, and the fact that the main developer seems to forget he couldn't have released the game without the help of the lead programmer he hired before the game released, I'm very put off by this guys attitude.
TL;DR, If you want multiplayer in your Game Maker game, Vadim is your go-to guy, he is listed in the Game Maker Community forums as the multiplayer guy, officially, and is the only one to hold that title. If he couldn't make Forager multiplayer, I doubt it was really his fault, as he's made countless games multiplayer in the past.
I used to like transparent consoles/controllers when I was younger. I just think they're a bit tacky now. I like custom designs/vinyls on my consoles, not so much transparency.
Yeah, I think SDV kind of eliminated HM and SoS as competitors sadly.
I was always a fan of HM games, I think the only thing that they offered over what SDV does is more interesting characters. I wasn't particularly attached to any of SDV's characters, but I guess it was 1 guy writing dialogue for so many people, as well as working on 101 other things.
Still holding out hope for Rune Factory 5 this year though. RF is a little different to SDV, so might still hold my interest.
@OorWullie Horizon Chase Turbo is the Console port of Horizon Chase, which was an Android/iOS game, so that's probably why.
But they based it off of Top Gear 1 & 2, which were my favourite childhood games, so I loved it haha. They also had collectibles on track, although they weren't mandatory for highscore, they were just money to spend on upgrades and collectible nitros (same as HCT).
@Grumblevolcano Nintendo doesn't do their Direct from E3, so hopefully they'd carry on with their usual schedule for the Direct even if E3 is cancelled.
I don't think "Dave" will be receiving any of my money.
This game doesn't sound like it's very well thought through or planned, they're setting very ambitious goals for themselves. Such as promising 1080p 60FPS gameplay before they've even started, it's impossible for them to know at this point whether they can pull that off, seeing as it looks like they haven't even started making the game.
EDIT: Oh nevermind, the games been cancelled already. Well done guys, think you just lost everyone's confidence in you even more...
@Zombie_Barioth Seems I was wrong. On GameFAQ's the majority of people said Nintendo owned Game Freak with a 54% share.
The only things I could find out, is that Nintendo own a minority share in Creatures Inc.
Nintendo own 32% of the Pokemon Company, but they also own the Pokemon trademark and logos. So overall Nintendo have the most force behind them, seeing as they own 32% of the Pokemon Company, own part of one of the other 2 companies involved in Pokemon, and own the trademark rights to the Pokemon logo and Pokemon branding.

Bit brutal this game is £25, it's £16 on Xbox and Playstation and £15 on Steam. Not sure why they're charging 50% more for the Switch version.
Definitely isn't worth £25 I feel. It's on sale for £6 on Playstation right now, and it's a Game Pass game for Xbox/PC users.

Re: Weirdness: Wii U Title Bombing Bastards Becomes 'Bombing Busters' on PS4, at Sony's Request
@datamonkey If you look at a dictionary, you'll realize all bad language is in it.
Re: F-Zero 'Spiritual Successor' Kickstarter Makes Classic Crowdfunding Mistakes
Re: Pokémon Jukebox Arrives For Free on Android Devices in the West
Re: Pokémon Jukebox Arrives For Free on Android Devices in the West
@Artwark Game Freak own Pokemon.
Nintendo are majority shareholder of Gamefreak (I believe they own 54% of Gamefreak's shares.)
Effectively making Pokemon Nintendo property.
But Game Freak are a 2nd party, so they're owned by Nintendo, but operate separately, much like RARE was during the N64 years.
Re: Super Mario Maker is the Final Name for the Anniversary Title
Was great that Miyamoto showed up and gave them autographed New 3DS XL's. Must have eased the blow for Cosmo getting runner-up.
Re: Ryu, Roy, New Stages and More Now Available in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U & 3DS
Wish this was priced as well as the MK8 DLC... :/
Re: The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth Pricing and Features Outlined by Nicalis
@May_Nyan But if you use ABXY for firing, what are you going to use for all the other controls?
Re: The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth Pricing and Features Outlined by Nicalis
@ImDiggerDan It was the only reason I could come up with in my head, like you said, there's no way that it was because of hardware resources.
Re: The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth Pricing and Features Outlined by Nicalis
@ImDiggerDan The game requires several buttons to play. the ABXY buttons are most likely used for items, bombs, dropping items etc.
Re: The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth Pricing and Features Outlined by Nicalis
@ImDiggerDan It's a twin-stick shooter, so it needs the C-stick of the New 3DS.
Re: Reggie Has Been Pushing For Binding Of Isaac To Come To Nintendo Consoles Since 2012
@Platypus101 @Tommy_Wiseau I believe he's referring to the Rebirth remake of the original game, which only came out late in 2014.
Re: USK Reiterates That IARC, A Quick and Global Age Ratings Option, Will Come to the eShop
@Artwark Most likely GTA isn't on Nintendo consoles because the developers don't want to put it on Nintendo consoles.
GTA was after all, on the DS, clearly Nintendo are open to it.
