@Fred13 "one of the lucky few to own one"

One of the few, yes. Lucky, no.

Admittedly, a poor concept to follow up with the Wii with, but it's failure was guaranteed by constant missteps by Nintendo, until the point they just gave up and stopped caring too.

The home console equivalent of the Vita (although the Vita was a terrific design): some good games, but mistreated badly by their companies.

I was extremely skeptical when the Switch was first announced (having been burned by the Wii U debacle), but I'm delighted to see the Switch performing so well, and with it having a huge amount of potential for further improvement too (video apps, virtual console, increasing 3rd party support, etc.)

I'll be picking up mine this weekend so long as the Target near me hasn't sold either of the ones they have in stock the other day...

It should be an easy win for Nintendo even without announcing any brand new Switch-specific games:

1. Smash 4 for Switch
2. Additional HD remakes - Bayonetta bundle, Pikmin trilogy, etc.
3. Gamecube games on VC (Super Mario Sunshine/Rogue Squadron II/Wave Race: Blue Storm, etc. available for download the following day)
4. A few third-party titles already hinted at (Dark Souls trilogy, etc.)
5. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime release date confirmed for Switch

Of course, this is Nintendo, so no doubt it will be a massive disappointment and missed opportunity.

Re: There Are Currently 'No Plans' For Final Fantasy XV On Nintendo Switch

VoodooTrumpet

This is what happens when you gimp your hardware. Although Final Fantasy XV does look awful, in fairness. That combat system is laughably pathetic.

The best the Switch can hope for in 3rd-party support is niche Japanese titles (RPGs and visual novels, etc.--what you find on the Vita), indies, ports of previous generation titles and Switch-specific ports and spin-offs (e.g. soccer games making use of motion controls, or games like Dead Space Extraction and Umbrella Chronicles, etc.)

This is why Nintendo should be announcing Gamecube VC support on Day 1, with every console coming with a digital code for Super Mario Sunshine, or something along those lines. You need games from somewhere.

Re: Soapbox: It's Nintendo's Job To Make Switch A Success, Not EA's, Ubisoft's Or Capcom's

Respawn just unofficially confirmed no Titanfall 2 for Switch, which pretty well illustrates this whole situation:

"I was excited about it, because Nintendo's been in such a niche market recently like, you know, catering to the handheld [market] and - I'm going to be honest with you - the kids. They've been so underpowered that they don't have the support of the third parties, because they're all making for PC, Xbox One and PS4, and [Switch] is no different!"

The success or failure of the Switch comes solely down to Nintendo, as was the case with the Wii U.

I'll be amazed if the Switch doesn't suffer a similar outcome. Nintendo can make great games, but their business strategies are frequently incompetent and hard to fathom the logic behind.

They really have a poor barometer for gauging the mood and inclinations of gamers.
