Re: Spoiler Alert, The Next Pokémon Games Have Leaked

VenomousAlbino

The mainline Pokémon games have been stagnating for years, although I've always ended up buying them. After playing Sword and Shield, however, that was the point where I said to myself that enough was enough until the games got completely overhauled.

But if Pokémon is indeed getting its "Breath of the Wild moment", consider my interest in the series rekindled.

The next Smash character will be announced. Industry insiders claim that it'll be "whoever it is you want the least".

To celebrate Zelda's 35th anniversary, A collection of Zelda HD remasters will be available to purchase between February 22nd 2021 and March 1st 2021, after which all unsold physical copies and all source code will be loaded into a rocket and fired into the sun.

It's all well and good promising to do better and apologising, but nowhere in all that text am I seeing an explanation for the long delays, nor am I seeing anything addressing how the company aims to prevent running into those same problems further down the line.

I don't know, I'm not in the position of having ordered anything from Dispatch, but if I were in that boat I'd be cancelling any and all orders and washing my hands of the entire thing.

@Jokerwolf having both battle methods in the game isn't something that could be easily implemented at all. Pokémon is not only balanced with turn-based battles in mind, but to implement a real-time battle system akin to Pokkén (as you mentioned), Game Freak would have to completely re-write or change the game engine, implement all kinds of new balancing to account for free player movement, write an entirely new AI to make use of said movement, not to mention having to FULLY animate around 900 unique models with tens of thousands of possible moves.

At that point, you're essentially asking Game Freak to create two entirely different games.

@Wexter and it's not like Pokémon fans don't have alternatives to the traditional turn-based formula, either. I might have burnt out on the mainline games, but if I want a Pokémon fix, there's still Pokkén, Mystery Dungeon, Puzzle League, Snap, etc. Thinking about it, Pokémon fans actually have one of the most eclectic range of alternatives and spin-offs available.
