Re: Feature: Hyrule Fields, Ranked - The Best Grassy Plains In The Zelda Franchise

TheBigBlue

Breath Of The Wild doesn’t have its own section of the game called the Hyrule Field or something, the fields are just part of the massive, sprawling world. To this day, they are absolutely beautiful looking, and that lost memory cutscene where Zelda is admiring the flowers in the fields and then forces Link to eat a live frog is a really well done cutscene, showing the beauty of the grasslands in that game.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 25th)

TheBigBlue

Just finished Fire Emblem Engage yesterday, so I will continue on my quest to beat Metroid Prime Remastered. I also play WarioWare Inc for the gba (switch online) on the side, because it’s the most wacky game collection, and it’s sheer stupidity never fails to put a big goofy smile on my face. Waiting until Pokémon Presents to see if the retro Pokémon games are coming, and until the new splatoon 3 update arrives March 1st.

Re: Nintendo Uploads New Switch Online Overview Trailer, Game Boy Now Included

TheBigBlue

@Crono1973 Yeah, but these older games get put on newer consoles because the people that do want them still will have a harder time finding them in real life. They may be outdated compared to the likes of Horizon Zero Dawn and God Of War, but these older titles still have their fans (Nintendo uses this to their advantage by hiding these older games behind a paywall, thankfully the basic plan is super cheap).

Re: Nintendo Is Officially Skipping E3 2023

TheBigBlue

@lyle_catcliffe Nintendo direct mini: partner showcase was held in June of last year. And before anyone says that’s not a direct, its literally in the name. Just because it’s not 40 minutes long and has no ‘3d Mario’ doesn’t mean that it’s still not a direct. Expect another partner or mini direct for June this year.

Re: Countdown: 3DS eShop Spotlight - Fire Emblem Fates

TheBigBlue

I was very late to the fire emblem party, only starting in June of last year with Three Houses. So I haven’t played the 3ds entries (You didn’t play awakening? You fool!) I have no excuses. I will not challenge my fate and try to pick of the fates games up unfortunately.

Re: Mortal Kombat 12 Confirmed, Scheduled For 2023 Release

TheBigBlue

Blasphemy! This game should have got a proper reveal, and not some random accidental name drop. Oh well. At least it exists. First gta 6 gets revealed by leaks and now this. What has this world come to? At least people suck at predicting Nintendo directs so that air of mystery is still there…

Re: Call Of Duty Will Run As You "Would Expect" On Nintendo Platforms, Says Microsoft

TheBigBlue

@LikelySatan I’ve seen comments here and there (mostly jokes, in all fairness) of people saying the games will run at 10p on the switch, and the internet service is bad enough, call of duty will be worse on it, that sort of thing. It’s harmless and actually kind of true. But there have been a ton of these comments since the contract was signed yesterday. We get it, cod will run like garbage on switch. We know. We don’t need it repeated several times after the news outlets already report them. It’s just people on social media being irritating, nothing new, sorry for the lack of context there. No problems on this site or anything else.

Re: Talking Point: Why Are So Many Remasters Sub-Par At Launch?

TheBigBlue

@SonOfDracula Hey, it worked for Scarlet/Violet. Those games shattered sales records, but everyone knows that’s because they are Pokémon games. They would sell well if the whole game played like an Atari game. But they definitely should not have released the way they did with all those weird bug outs that were circulating on twitter. Some of those were nightmare fuel.

Re: Talking Point: Why Are So Many Remasters Sub-Par At Launch?

TheBigBlue

I think depending on the game, certain adjustments are entirely necessary and some are not. In Skyward Sword HD’s case, there wasn’t really too much wrong with the original on the Wii (because it was on the Wii, of course the game would be as limited as the console, hence the lack of HD.) People would be unimpressed with that game’s at times finicky motion controls. Nintendo remedied this with adding button controls to the switch port, which was huge. The button configuration is still odd, but that game was only meant to work with motion plus Wiimotes. Considering that, the team did an excellent job with the button control addition. Adding High Definition to this game was also sorely needed. These and a few other small things were the only touches that need to be added in order for the game to shine again. Other games, like Prime Remastered, go a step further, when it doesn’t have to. Most people would have rathered a straight port of the whole Prime Trilogy in the switch because the games were already great visually and control-wise. Retro and everyone else who worked on the remaster went the extra mile in adding 3 whole control schemes, the GameCube one, the Wii one, and a new double stick control. They redid almost all the visuals and touched up so much of the game. The soundtrack was one of the only things they didn’t really tweak, mainly because it’s already superb. That is how you do a remaster properly, even though the game might not have needed all the upgrades, they are beyond well appreciated and worthwhile. Each game needs certain adjustments, some small, some large. It’s all in how you do it.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Kirby's Return To Dream Land Deluxe

TheBigBlue

@geshem For me personally, the series has always had its own unique charm and characters that differ from many other franchises don’t have. It’s more laid back and colourful than say, Call Of Duty for example. The backdrops are really pretty and full of life, the very same as the characters. The storylines of each game are far from praiseworthy (One such plot involved Kirby destroying a group of mice and an evil star for a final boss, all because Kirby’s strawberry cake was stolen. I’m not even kidding, the game is called Squeak Squad!) Still, unique series exclusive game mechanics like stealing enemies’s abilities to gains variety of powers, from fire breathing to shooting geysers of water from your head, and being able to float in the air at all times, making it easy to cross small gaps. The games are cute and harmless, but many argue the games are super easy, you don’t need any effort to burn through the entire game in an hour or two, which is indeed true. Don’t expect a challenge from a Kirby game, if that’s the sort of thing you like in video games. If you express interest in buying a Kirby game, they are super accessible, controls are super simple. Go for it if you want to!

Re: Video: Kirby's Return To Dream Land Deluxe Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison (Switch & Wii)

TheBigBlue

RIP goofy dedede model from 2011. Replaced by ripped DDD from Forgotten Land. King Triple D’s new buff model aside, Deluxe looks great! Better lighting here, which is obvious to see. HAL Laboratory could have easily gotten away with a few slight touch ups for and HD port, but they went all out like the Prime Remaster did. Prime Remastered and Return to dreamland deluxe are exactly how remasters/remakes should be handled. To whomever picks this up, you will not be disappointed!

Re: Every Yoshi Game Ranked

TheBigBlue

Interesting. A lot of these are really random, obscure games with strange titles. Still, I remember the marketing for Yoshi’s Wooly World for the Wii U. It was quite fun, and they put an emphasis on Yarn Poochy, who is incredibly adorable. SMW2: Yoshi’s Island is a classic game, I really loved playing it a few years ago when it came to the switch. Was going to buy Crafted World at some point after I beat Yoshi’s Island SNES, but I never ended up buying it. Still, I would like to see this franchise continue because whenever it makes a good game, it’s a really good and enjoyable game. It’s a nice change from all those intense online multiplayers like Smash that I play a lot of. The music is also really chilled out, and the levels have always been creative with creative ways to play like the egg throwing mechanic that has always been a staple. Go Yoshi!

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Kirby's Return To Dream Land Deluxe

TheBigBlue

@WiiWouldLikeToPlay The game is rated E for everyone, so there is cold hard truth in wanting a game to appeal to that demographic to. I understand this, as much as it seems like I’m blind to this. Gave both comments a like because they give much better points. Won’t justify what I’ve said because that will just be ignorant and rude.

“I love Kirby, but acknowledge that reviewers will use a standard for all games, not just a review to accommodate Kirby.”

This is also very true. The way I worded seems like I was making it out to be a biased review. It’s not a biased review. If they say the first part is a slog, and they mean this honestly, and there is no point in lying by about it. Honesty is the best policy, and warping their view of the game in its favor has no point.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Kirby's Return To Dream Land Deluxe

TheBigBlue

@WiiWouldLikeToPlay At least the games offer up any sort of hard mode. The meat and potatoes of the game is to play through the main story. Once that’s done, you get something like a boss rush or harder story mode. People will argue that there should be a hard option at the start, but in the end, it doesn’t really matter, at least it exists. And if someone doesn’t like that, then don’t purchase it! Easy. Most people fail to realize that if they don’t like a video game, they can either not buy it, or never play again. Simply logic, really. Also ign shouldn’t be detracting scores from the game for that reason. It’s nitpicking and unfair. It’s like asking a billionaire tech expert like Bill Gates to make you a corn dog. The game was intended to be easy.

Re: Review: Kirby's Return To Dream Land Deluxe - A Suitably Dreamy Encore For One Of Kirby's Best

TheBigBlue

@-wc- These games appeal more to little kids and families; the more casual types of gamers. Interestingly, Masahiro Sakurai, Kirby’s creator and director of his first few games, said that he created Kirby as a video game that would be much easier to pick up and play, because this was during an era of gaming where much harder video games like Castlevania and Mega Man reigned supreme on the likes of the NES. The whole series is meant to be an easier alternative to those who don’t really want to tackle the more challenging and hardcore games out there.

Re: Review: Kirby's Return To Dream Land Deluxe - A Suitably Dreamy Encore For One Of Kirby's Best

TheBigBlue

@Jiggies Remember, I’m also describing the original version of the game, which was already fun. From what I have seen, this Deluxe version has an all new Magolor mode, and a whole wack of new and classic mini games. It’s probably even more fun now than it was before! Even if they straight up ported the game directly from the Wii with no upgrades, I would still say this is a must-buy.

Re: Poll: Which Nintendo Switch Online Console Do You Play The Most?

TheBigBlue

I used to play hours upon hours of F-Zero X on the N64 service when the game got added to NSO. Such a fun game, and the soundtrack is killer. I also tried my hand at Super Mario 64 ( even though I used to own 3D All Stars) and Yoshi’s story, among others. I also played a lot of Kirby Super Star and Sonic 2. Nowadays, I like to play Kirby’s Dream Land and Tetris on the game boy service, and Warioware Inc and Superstar Saga. Kuru Kiru Kuruin is also a hidden gem as well. But out of all those services, I have spent the most time on the N64. I use all of them anyway. Each library is stacked! Well, maybe not GB for now, but watch. It will be at some point. I can’t wait for Metroid Fusion and Kirby Amazing Mirror. I’m on a metroid binge/fire emblem binge.

Re: Super Mario Bros. Movie Nintendo Direct Announced For 9th March, Will Debut 'Final Trailer'

TheBigBlue

I have seen a lot of these comments. Everyone must remember, Tears of the Kingdom launches mid-may. It is not even March yet as of this comment. I assume if they were to do one, it would be sometime later next month or extremely early April. That is, if this TOTK direct people are so fixated on is even real.
Also for calling a direct for a simple movie trailer makes sense from Nintendo’s stance. ModdedInkling said this already, but the Direct name itself is a built up name with lots of recognition attached to it. People are more likely to watch the trailer if it’s presented in a Direct format rather than just some random drop on YouTube. Because Nintendo has hammered home the fact that this movie is a BIG DEAL. They want as many eyes on it as possible, not there won’t be regardless. I think it’s another great marketing tactic for the movie. The marketing for this movie so far is absolutely masterclass. Can’t wait for it’s April release.
