Rodea The Sky Soldier has had a troubled route to release, undergoing a lengthy impasse between developer Prope and Kadokawa Games, in the process shifting from Wii to Wii U and 3DS. It's now nearly out in Japan, however, and is coming to the West later in the year.
We've seen plenty of the Wii U version, but it's likely to be the 3DS version that carries the best hopes of sales success, simply due to a userbase that's over five times bigger for the portable. A new video showing the story and some action sequences is useful, then, as it gives us a look at how the handheld version is shaping up.
You can see this below.
Though the visuals are understandably more simplistic, they may look rather decent - especially in motion - on the hardware.
Are you interested in picking up Rodea The Sky Soldier later this year; if so, will you opt for the Wii U or 3DS version?

I plan on getting both, but it's the first print edition with the Wii version that I'm really interested in. Now, Project H.A.M.M.E.R, anyone?
A-anyone?
I'm leaning towards the Wii U but I'll wait for reviews and gauge which platform is better overall.
Though the graphics looks even more subpar on the Wii U version, I'll be getting it for the Wii U. I really hope this game gets rated well though or otherwise I may not get it...
Are there any differences between the two versions? Apart from graphical, obviously.
I was wondering when you'd post about this trailer, was starting to worry no post was going to be made about it. In any case, Rodea The Sky Soldier continues to look awesome.

A: I' am interested in picking up Rodea The Sky Soldier. In fact, I tried to pre-order it at my nearest GAME store, yet they so far seem to have not even heard of the game. Annoying that.
As for my version of choice, I'm going for the Wii U version. I prefer playing on consoles, rather than handhelds. That said, I'm even more interested in trying to nab the Wii version if possible.
@EllenJMiller I remember Project H.A.M.M.E.R. It's a shame it never came to be, it looked like a fun game, and I remember my younger brother being interested in it.
I will think about it. I am trying to limit my video game spending this year. I still haven't gotten a new XL yet. I getting this game at all depends on what other 3DS games are coming out this year. I am limiting myself to 2 Wii U games and 2 3DS games a year starting this June (after E3).
@Pokefanmum82 So that means you can only get Pokémon Z and one other game this year for the 3DS.
Getting it on the Wii U. I hope I can find the retail version, although right now I'm skeptical.
3DS version ftw
My interest in this game is increasing over time. It looks like it could be a decent blaster. However I will definitely wait for review scores before I get too excited.
Getting Wii U version because I can get the original Wii version with it.
Not gonna even touch this version. That framerate is atrocious; looks like a constant 15-20 FPS. Not very desirable for an arcade shooter type game. Probably playable, but just barely.
I'll decide after the game and some reviews as well as LP's are out.
Simple or not, the 3DS version has more artistic beauty to it.

I'm definitely interested in picking up this one, though I have a few other games that are ahead of it in the queue.
@AVahne Depending on whether it was programmed on the CPU or GPU will depend if the New 3DS will bump it up. If CPU dependant then the frames and speed will increase greatly.
Sweet mother mary I'm excited for this one. Alreayd have it preordered on Amazon. Considering a second Gamestop preorder to keep one sealed. I don't have 3DS so I'll get it on WiiU(plus Wii). THANK YOU to the companies still making and bringing over physical boxed goods from Japan
Day 1 purchase.
@Souldin It's up on Amazon again, thankfully.
I'm definitely interested. Though I need to see more to be sold.
I am getting very interested in this game. Although I would like to get it on the Wii U since the 3DS version has subpar graphics AND might have frame rate issues. Plus all that combat might be hard to take in with a 3DS's screen but I can be wrong on that.
Looking forward to getting a Wii U copy OR in the unlikely scenario a digital 3DS copy.
@AVahne Off screen footage videos show a much higher framerate. Like 30fps or more.
@SamirMalik I don't know if you noticed but they showed this game running in a new 3DS in the video. I can say that because there's a volume slider on the top left of the upper screen.
@LawRulesALL how do you know that is actually running on the new 3ds? all you see is just a picture with footage in between. just saying
It looks like a 28-30/40 game to me. I hope I'm wrong (unless it's even lower lol)
