The good folks at Bandai Namco Games have been working their socks off at Gamescom this week promoting the upcoming racing sim Project CARS, which is being developed by Slightly Mad Studios.
With over 60 licensed cars and 35 race tracks, it looks like a comprehensive racing simulator, while its visuals have also been a key selling point throughout its development.
It's scheduled to launch November 2014 and will be available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One; Wii U owners will unfortunately have to wait until 2015 to get behind the wheel. While this game will have stiff competition from the likes of DriveClub and Forza Motorsport 5, on the Wii U there is a real lack of authentic driving simulators; it could be quite the success on Nintendo's system.
Without further ado feast your eyes on these 18 new screenshots.
If all these lovely screenshots weren't enough to whet your appetite, there's also a fresh Gamescom trailer too.
While it's a shame that Wii U owners will have to wait until next year to get behind the wheel of Project CARS, it certainly looks like a drive worth waiting for. Will these new screenshots and trailer tempt you to click the pre-order button?

This game won't be a success on the Wii U. Holding out until next year will only mean that anyone who wants it will buy it on another system.
Why would i buy this game if these screenshots are for the PS4 and the Xbox One?Not one time in this whole year, did they showed any screenshots for the wiiu and if i'm wrong about this correct me.But i don't think i am and i will buy this game when it's 20 dollars.
Not a big fan of realistic racers but this has peaked my interest
These aren't Wii U screens so what is the actual point of this article apart from saying look how well the other versions are shaping up?
And next year they'll be like "you see? Nintendo guys don't buy third-party games"
No screenshots, no gameplay shown, not even a date. I was going to buy this game day one but now I'll just wait for a price drop.
Can we refrain from any more news unless it's directly from the U version please. None of this matters to us Nintendo fans as this game still may not come to light.
@SethNintendo @Midnafanboy @Jazzer94 Just seen this so +1
"will have stiff competition from the likes of DriveClub and Forza Motorsport 5"
I think you mean Forza Horizon 2. Forza 5 was out last year.
It's confusing because on the website for this game it says there is going to be 60 tracks, but for the Wii U version it says 35 tracks. I hope this is just an error because it would be a shame if they cut tracks out of the Wii U version.
@Videogamer123 Wow I never noticed that. That is a bad decision if it is the case. Its like when third party developers decide to remove the online aspect of their games from the Wii U. Talk about wanting it to fail.
@FragRed It's kinda like third parties want to see Wii U and Nintendo fail. For example, the Minecraft creator just bashed the Wii U, saying there are next to no games on it. Guess that kills any chance for Minecraft on Wii U...
@SethNintendo Agree 1000%
Was about to write the exact same comment LOL.
@Videogamer123 What like the Xbox One has next to no games considering they're all going to PS4 as exclusive lol. That must be they got Square Enix to make the next Tomb Raider times exclusive.
@Spoony_Tech Tech this game is coming to the Wii U though. That's why it's news.
People's logic of "they'll buy it on another system" is flawed. The casual market probably only has one system.
Really, haven't any publishers learned their lesson that delaying Wii U games mean an automatic sales failure (unless it's a 2D Rayman game)?
If this game ever reaches the Wii U, I would love to see current screenshots from the Wii U version. Even if the game is still in early alpha stage on a developer kit, I'd just like to see actual Wii U screens as I really doubt that these images with full 1080p resolution that one, the console will melt from using every bit of power. Or two, perhaps they deliver the same screens but the game being so late to the system to the point where nobody cares. I'm sure Sony won't give up on a new Gran Turismo or the Xbox One's Forza franchise to be outdone.
Project Cars should be a Wii U exclusive and potential franchise. The console needs more realistic driving games and the PC screens look great, my PC sucks for gaming. I only wish a developer outside of Nintendo, had the balls to try it.
A half-assed game will only see half assed sales and even less interest.
If by now they are still not showing Wii U screenshots, then either a: development is disappointingly early, delayed, or non-existent. or B: the release window is really far into 2015.
@Rafie Prove it! Where are the screen shots ,videos, and or any other information other then it's been pushed back? Respectfully!
...Game probably will end up looking like crap anyways, hate developers that do this...should be showing screenshots for all systems. Wii U owners will start thinking that's how the game will look, and then it comes out and they're all like "WTF happened? This game looks like crap!"
@Xiao_Pai Then we can sue them for faults advertising!
@SethNintendo Agreed, and this applies to PS4 and xBone owners. If you think your game will look like the PC version in any way shape or form, be prepared for downgradeton... luckily it will look better then a PS3 game, but only marginally so. A 1080p, 30fps PS3 game.
@Spoony_Tech Sure no problemhttp://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2014/08/15/new-project-cars-trailer-amp-pre-order-info.aspx?utm_content=buffer4abb8&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer
Maybe not a trailer for the Wii U , but there are a plethora of articles saying a Wii U version is coming. Chill man. It's coming. I know Nintendo fans are frustrated with the way they are being treated as of lately by 3rd part devs, but this one is legit. Not to mention that most trailers we've seen are on the PC, including those screenshots on this page.
@element187 I've seen the PS4 and Xbox One versions. They look immaculate. Don't see the need to down play them to a better PS3 version. We all know the PC version will look the best. Lol
I wish these were Wii U pics!
I really want to support the Wii U version but I can see myself building a new PC to play this at max settings
@Rafie This is just about what Watch Dogs has done to the tee. No screen shots, little info, and you can Pre order it. When's that release date again for Watch Dogs. Both have also been talked up as well.
The only difference is I believe Watch Dogs has a trailer of the U up and running.
Wii U will most likely end up with a version simular to Gran Turismo on PSP.
Realistic enough but not as it appears on PS3.
@Spoony_Tech I can feel your frustration from here in South Florida man. Again, I know you all are tired of being the butt end of everyone's jokes and how these devs won't either do anything for the Wii U, or delay the game. Still you have to respect the ones that still want to work with Nintendo. To be honest, when it comes to 3rd parties...Nintendo have to take what they can get. We all know the Wii U is a viable console that has promising capabilities. It's just difficult for devs to get behind it because they feel as though they will be taking a loss for developing a game on a system that isn't doing too hot sales wise. Part of the fault is the devs and part of the fault is Nintendo.
The situation with the Crew was something that I thought was bs when they said they weren't developing for the Wii U. Yet there's a 360 version coming along side the PS4 and Xbox One version. No PS3 version either. They claim that there the 360 is more closer to next gen (which is current gen) to develop for. We know the Wii U is more powerful than the past gen, and yet they are not making the game for the Wii U, but instead makes one for the 360?! THAT'S a load of crock. So the Crew (because I was going to get the Wii U version if they released it) is a game I will not be purchasing. Between Project C.A.R.S., Drive Club, and FH 2...I'll have my driving fix. I just wanted a good one for the Wii U.
@Rafie You know I get it, I get why devs and pubs delay cancel and what not, that doesn't bother me. What bothers me is the total lack of information (Zen UBISoft Slightly Mad) Why not when you go to delay said game for whatever format give us some hope by releasing a trailer or 2 with the game running on the hardware. Shoot give us some screen shots and I'll be happy. To just delay a game we've yet to see next to nothing about doesn't give us Nintendo fans much hope. Aliens Colony Marines is the bench mark for talking up a game on this platform and not delivering. All others are following suit!
@element187 Well, it's not an Ubisoft game, so the PC version will look a lot better and actually be optimized. PC gamers are still royally pissed at Ubisoft.
Namco Bandai bought up the publishing rights.
Be very wary.
oh...lots of cool screenshots worthy of being avatar or wallpaper pics:)
if this eventually gets cancelled on wii u, it will be one of those rare times that i will be disappointed in saving $60 as opposed to spending it.
lets hope it all turns out ok.
@Action51 Smash Bros Wii U cancelled CONFIRMED!
Man, I don't give a toss about cars, but these surfaces are slick as all getout.
Whilst I'm as frustrated as anyone about the delay I'm not going deny myself the pleasure of playing it when it does hit Wii U. After all whats the alternative? An arcade racer or miss out entirely! There's nothing else like this on or coming to Wii U.
As a note, the Wii U isn't the only system that is being delayed for release. SteamOS is also being postponed, which is a larger deal than the Wii U.
@SageWaterDragon a delay on Steam OS doesn't really surprise me as it's very much in the same boat as the Wii U, the average consumer has no idea what to look for on a store shelf let alone requiring a broadband connection.
The only place I've heard of a "Steambox" or or otherwise has been IGN and rumors.
The Wii U has picked up momentum thanks to MK 8 and other actual amazing games coming up in the future months and 2015. But even then with all the games shown at E3, nothing on a realistic racing game has been nothing but hopes and dreams.
Most people with a Steam account already will most likely have a well built gaming PC ready to handle most any game thrown at it.
What would really surprise me is that there's a better chance seeing it on Stream for Mac OS X ahead of the Wii U release mainly for the x86 muscle inside of them but there's already much better racing simulations on the Mac.
There is no quality racing games outside of MK 8 and NFS: MW U which was a launch title from a developer (Criterion / EA) that jumped ship on the system.
If EA did come back or Project Cars looking looking anywhere near the posted screenshots, I would gladly have my serving of humble pie.
Nintendo systems hardly ever have proper realistic racing games and I seriously doubt this will be released. And if it does, what the hell are they going to do with the digital triggers?
Why oh why didn't Nintendo use analogue triggers? They did it with the Gamecube controller and the classic controller.
Damn! Look at those sexy screens! I wish I was rich enough to buy a good PC!
The game won't look anywhere near that good on WiiU, or even XBone and PS4, these screens hots are taken with a sexy pc most likely.
@FragRed apart from the fact that XBone has more exclusives than PS4? I don't understand why people hate on the XBone, sure it isn't as powerful as the ps4 but it has better exclusives atm. What can you play on the ps4 apart from second son?
And before anyone claims I'm a fan boy, I don't own either next gen console, I use a pc and my WiiU.
Don't really care much about the graphics at this point as all them versions will look identical regardless of platforms, I'm just awaiting how the gameplay would play out.
I have this on indefinite preorder along with watchdogs. I fully expect it to be cancelled as I do with Watchdogs, however I live in hope. I believe there are no WiiU screenshots or official WiiU footage (not the YouTube WiiU simulation on a PC footage) as the WiiU version hasn't even got off the ground.
What I don't understand is that why doesn't a representative if NintendoLife or any other Nintendo magazine/website make an official approach to the developer to get a response to the issue. Slightly Mad studios could easily quash the doubters by going on record and releasing something exclusive to the WiiU. I suppose the same goes for Watchdogs.
@IceClimbers I have been annoyed with Ubisoft ever since them wasting 2 weeks of my time due to Starforce and it not being able to be removed without a reinstall. (No Steam or anything with XP everything had to be reinstalled from the disks some stuff I never got working again.) Totally hosed everything worse than any malware I have ever had. If I could have just removed the game and took it as wasted money that would have been loads better.
@SethNintendo
Some people will never get it regarding console generations. For those who understand no explanation is necessary, for those that don't no explanation is possible.
Claiming one console has better exclusives than another is like saying you have a better music collection than another person with a different musical preference, and claiming it to be scientific fact.
@Rafie
The problem with The Crew isn't the power of the machines it's their internal architecture. The 360 is much closer to the PS4 and XB1 in design all three being essentially PC's. The PS3 and Wii U have quirkier internals and it would need more work to contest it. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt on that one as PS3 is missing out as well as Wii U.
I want to get this game, and if it hold 30s FPS, I probably will. But posts with PC screenshots are completely worthless to me. Aside from the blade hanging over our neck that the game has been pushed back and may be cancelled soon, it is not an exaggeration to say that the difference between these screens and what we might see on Wii U will probably be the same difference as between a good PS3 racer and a mediocre PS2 racer.
To lhe people saying that theres no point in showing this pictures cause they are from pc, ps4 or xbox , i would like tó remember that Slightly Mad has stated that the wii u version will be close to this.
@Captain-Falcon Problem is that most of the Xbone's "exclusives" aren't really exclusive. They end up on PC sooner or later. Ryse, Dead Rising 3, Project Spark, etc are all gonna be on PC. Only true exclusives it has are Forza 5, Sunset Overdrive, Halo MCC, Forza Horizon 2, Killer Instinct, and Halo 5.
@IceClimbers
Yes, but out of all those people whom own an Xbox One would be able to afford a super gaming computer? To be able to run DR3 on a PC you would need a very good and expensive one for example.
@Videogamer123 could you link to where it says that on the site? I've browsed my butt off but I couldn't find any info on there being less tracks in the Wii U version.
Here's where I looked:
http://www.slightlymadstudios.com
http://www.projectcarsgame.com/faq.html
@Laxeybobby there are indeed no screenshots or videos of a Wii U version, but to say that it hasn't even gotten from the ground yet is way off: they have been working on the Wii U version for well over 1,5 years now and they are just using these final months to tweak it to what they want it to be. The guys that made this can be considered veterans in the racing sim business as they have made more titles then the people behind Gran Turismo and Forza combined. Their last titles were the Need for Speed Shift games and these were on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. Therefore you could expect the Wii U version of a newer game from the same developers to look even better than that, even if only by a margin.
So, as for what to realistically expect for the Wii U: keep NFS Most Wanted in mind because that already looked pretty good and then think upgrade from that, so somewhat better graphics wise.
There are already videos of the PS4 and Xbox One versions, so just put the Wii U version smack dab in the middle of these and Need for Speed Shift, because that is well within reach of the Wii U's hardware.
Here are some videos so you can compare for yourself:
Shift 2 on Xbox 360:
Project CARS on PS4:
@electrolite77 Ehm no, that's bull: the XB1 and the PS4 are NOT similar in architecture to the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 is based on PowerPC architecture, and the two new consoles are x86 based, so a HUGE difference. Which is what makes the whole "The Crew is not coming to Wii U" story a big load of BS, that is UNLESS they were talking about the online infrastructure, because that is the word they used, not architecture. If it was, then the Wii U would actually be closer since it is also PowerPC based but with a newer and more capable chipset compared to the Xbox 360.
@Rafie Thumbs up for keeping it cool once again, friend. All this panicking and negativity for nothing...
@TheRealThanos I'm sorry friend i respect your opinion's about this.but i do not think they used the 1.5 years they had making this version.Cause if they did, they would have shown it off.They would have shown wiiu owners what they are waiting for, a reason to wait for this if they did.I would not be hating on this game for a second and i would still have my pre order for this game.I don't because after they delayed this i stopped caring.And in the end this game gets all the negativity it earned from wiiu owners like myself.When they show us screen shots of the wiiu version, i will say only positive things, but until then this game is not worth anyone's time.
@TheRealThanos
Fair enough, I've been misinformed then. If its online infrastructure the point still stands. Nobody was expecting it to make it to Wii U or last-gen consoles so there's clearly practical reasons if they're missing out on the potential revenue from a PS3 Version which let's face it would happen before a Wii U version (the only good car racing game on the Wii U sold about 8 copies). However it seems from this site that one of Nintendo fans favourite hobbies is whining about third party games the majority were never going to buy anyway. Gives people a reason to feel hard done to I guess.
@midnafanboy Well, they did. You are free to think what you want, but the truth is in the facts. You can even get this info from the guys themselves if you email or tweet them. They are really nice. And as for them not having shown anything: just think of the new Zelda, which was already well over 2 years in development and was supposed to be ready to have been shown off at last year's E3 and a full year later we only got a snippet of 1 minute of so called gameplay... (and yeah, I know an adventure isn't the same as a racing sim, but still. You're smart so you'll get the point)
And the game should be worth Nintendo gamers' time because this is at least a developer that is still prepared to give the Wii U some love & attention and not just make it a sloppy port with missing components and truly wants to go the extra mile to give us a memorable experience.
@electrolite77 I re-read my own comment and it came across as a bit harsh. Sorry about that, it was late here and I was a bit grumpy from being on several forums and all I came across was negativity. But I do think that the problem lies in the comparatively small amount of Wii U's sold and it's online structure, which is still well behind that of the other two. The reason why this is not coming to Xbox 360 or PS3 is because of owners of those consoles largely moving to the new versions of their favorite platform, and because more can be done with the newer hardware. That is totally unrelated to the whole Wii U "debacle" so it is no simple equation of Project CARS = not coming to Xbox 360/PS3 = Wii U version will also be cancelled. A Wii U version will be released, trust me.
The only thing that worries me is that people aren't going to buy it, or that it's not going to sell enough to make it profitable for Slightly Mad Studios and so they may very well pull the plug on any other game they will make after Project CARS has failed to sell on Wii U.
And THAT is why people need to give them some love and support in return. Efforts like these must be rewarded, even if it's not truly your kind of game. Heck, give it to someone else as a present but support them and let them know that we DO want games like these on Wii U. The poll on their site showed as much, so let's put our money where our mouth is...
@IceClimbers still more than the PS4 has.
The original launch for this game included the opportunity for fans to buy in to a profit sharing scheme. I believe that Nintendolife should disclose if the author or editor of future articles on this game have any stake or participation in this scheme.
