After Ubisoft Mexico let the dog(?) out of the bag, the publisher has now officially confirmed release dates for Watch Dogs on Wii U — it hits North America on 18th November and Europe on 21st November.
The development studio responsible for the port is Ubisoft Montreal, which also brought us the Wii U versions of Assassin's Creed III and Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag; unsurprisingly, based on that heritage, the only Wii U-specific features cited so far are an interactive map on the touch screen and off-TV play. We've requested clarification on whether any DLC will be released with this version.

It's the end of a release saga, though the title will go up against numerous big-name games on Wii U, 3DS and all other platforms — November is typically the busiest season for new arrivals.
Let us know how you feel about the release now that dates are confirmed, and whether you'll be picking it up on Wii U.

I'd rather get Sonic Boom.
I really hope the DLC will be supported on Wii U, I think any DLC released before November 18th should be free for Wii U owners but it won't stop me from buying it if the DLC is at least coming to Wii U
…no thanks
Also, good luck going up against Smash
I'm surprised they're releasing it at all.
If the price is right I'll get it as it should have been out on Wii U in May. So paying £40 for this game is out of the question it's a £20 game to me now no way will I be paying full price. Or I'll just wait a month & it will be less then half price anyway has happened with ever single Ubi-soft game released on the Wii U.
@ThomasBW84 Isn't the North America release date the 20th, that's what the Ubisoft twitter seemed to suggest?
@Grumblevolcano The press release says 18th November.
And we all know how this will go down:
It'll barely sell and Ubi will put the blame on Nintendo even though they made the decision to release the game on the other two consoles months prior.
Wouldn't be at surprised whatsoever if this is the last game they'll ever publish on a Nintendo console.
This was my most anticipated game of the year, so idk whether I should save my cash for Smash or for this. Luckily I have 2 friends that are for sure getting smash, so I could just play theirs.
This game is really releasing in November?! This game just lost even more sales!
I can't wait for this game. I won't buy deus ex for sure now. I'd rather buy this. I can't decide wether I should buy day one or wait for a price drop. Ubi is abandoning the platform anyway,so we're damed if we do and damed if we don't
Nope.
Too little too late...
Who am I kidding? I wouldn't have bought this stupid game to begin with.
I'd love to get it, but this is seriously the worst possible timing to release a third-party game on Wii U. Maybe if Nintendo's endless stream of 2015 games ends someday, but not for now.
</care>
I bought the game on ps3 two weeks ago because of the lack of info regarding the wii u version. Anyway after I bought AC3 on wii u and it froze constantly I don't think id bother anyway
Quick, Nintendo! Put Smash on Nov. 18th! Ubisoft are not expecting WD to sell so they won't mind
It's 6 months old, close to bargain bin prices on the PS360 and PS4/X1. We will not get any DLC, charged $59.99 and then it will be our fault if it does't sell 1 million copies.
I understand longer development for the WiiU since it's not PC level equipment but at least give us a reason to even be excited about your product!
Never heard of it...
Holy molly! A huge AAA third party game hitting Wii U this november!?? Is this real life??... But seriously, I hope they took this 5 months of delay for the good and they can bring a decent port that at least performs and looks better than the 360/PS3 versions. Because it's 100% obvious the Wii U is more powerful than those two consoles and it can handle this type of games better. Hope Ubisoft release an actual trailer with real Wii U footage close to release to see how it will look.
Come on guys, let's stay optimistic, this could probably be the very last AAA third party game we're getting on Wii U so the least we can do is support it and buy it for the honor. Yes, it's a pretty average/bad sandbox game. Yes, it has tons of flaws and bugs even on the PC/PS4 versions but at least we're getting the chance to experience an actual sandbox game on Wii U.
....too little, too late ubisoft.(?)
Those dog puns tho. Edit: will be getting this if I have da cash come November, I've been holding off on the PC version for this!
If it would release in May, it would compete with MK8. With a release in November, it will compete with Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2, Smash U, the MK8 DLC release, and also to some extent Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.
@WingedSnagret Oh no, you don't know do you? I won't spoil it for you. They've already made up their mind, there's your taste.
Does anyone know what date that is? Anniversary of a certain console that launched, what was it called?
@sinalefa Ha, that was reaction aswell. Nintendo should release Smash U on November the 18th just to troll Ubisoft
Yeah, buying this day one is pointless. I do want it day one but why bother. Like most are saying if the price is right but I highly doubt it. Its a new game whether it's 6 months late or not and they would like some return on that. As hyped as I was I should probably wait till after CHRISTmas to get it as it will surely come down in price.
It's too late Ubi. Some has already played on other systems. Like me, I played it on my friends PS4 and didn't really like it.....I would have gotten it if it came out the same day as the other versions. Mario Kart 8 wouldn't prevent me from getting Watch Dogs.
@SuperMalleo @Ryno @LUIGITORNADO Sheesh, why all the hate? At least it's an original, not Call of Battle-theft the prequel 7!
they know smash comes out during this time... Seriously?
No DLC, No buy for me.
I'm busy with other games, and a New 3DS from Japan, so no thank you.
I want to show some support for 3rd party developers and big blockbusters coming to the Wii U but....man, that release date? Seriously?
@PvtOttobot that's awesome
I will buy it, full price even if the other versions are discounted already. I manage to remain spoil free up to now, so I will rather enjoy the ride. But when this games fails to sell millions, I just hope Ubisoft realizes most people are not as patient as me. A shame too, I wanted to also give them wvwn more of my money, as if they put the new "Assassin's Creed Rogue" on the system.
Didn't get great reviews.
Not sure why they ate bothering with WiiU. Unless the game is much improved this will fail in every way possible.
Months waiting for an interactive map and off-screen play lol.
If the reviews for the wii u version are good on here and a couple other places I'll get it - if it's a good game in other words. Seems to me like this could be our best opportunity to really show Ubisoft that wii u owners do want "mature" games; as opposed to endless iterations of just dance.
Maybe Ubi will release its "secret held back game" in December CoughRabbidsCough and help support the U for one last holiday before we eventually see ZombiU2 in 2016 which will take place in Ireland......ya know cause U2.........never mind....its not funny or amusing
Seems interesting that they release it 10 days before one of the biggest shopping days in the US (Black Friday)
Dumb move, Ubisoft...
Pre-ordered on Amazon.
Again, some of you need to grow up. This is a solid entry to the Wii U's library and a worthy own. I couldn't care less who played it first. It will all look the same when I'm looking at my collection in 10 years.
I'll be getting Sonic Boom instead
I don't know her...
Has the always online been confirmed yet?
Have we seen any vids, or even stills, of the actual Wii U version yet?
They're probably putting it out in Nov b/c Wii U won't be getting either of the AC5 games which release Nov 11.
And can anybody tell me why Ubi's AC headline is "Make History on Any Console" yet the Wii U logo is on the bottom of the page, but neither game is coming out on Wii U? I may boycott ALL Ubi games b/c of that double whammy slap in the face.
http://assassinscreed.ubi.com/en-US/home/index.aspx.
Well at least it has a date, unlike SSB, or Capt Toad, which are supposed to be releasing in the US in the next 4 months. Make fun of Ubi all you want but at least they gave us a date. Just don't buy their game. I've had enough of their insolence.
I have this reserved and I'm cautiously optimistic. However, if it comes to light that the Wii U version is gimped in comparison to the other versions I'm cancelling my reservation and not buying any version.
I am glad to see that people who waited for the Wii U version are going to get it and I hope it will run well. As for me I got the pc version and well I should have remembered how Ubu treats their PC player base but I fell into the hype and got what I deserved by not thinking straight.
@Kogorn733 I wouldn't be surprised if they did since they gimped the PC version to make it look like the Currency Gen games but in turn butchered the optimization of the game.
@KillScottKill
Totally agree.
You finally get a 3rd party game, and now the support drops. Who cares if it's released at a later date.
Those guys at Ubi are geniuses
@PvtOttobot - Man, I thought that was photoshoped before reading the other article, nice job staying ahead of the curve.
@Gerbwmu I would love it to take place in Ireland. I wouldn't even need the in game map to find my way around.
This is a lose-lose for Ubisoft. Why would I buy a game from this publisher when they purposely held the finished product away from us for 2 months while all of the other consoles were able to play? Because of this, I won't buy, and if there are others that see this the same way, the game won't sell.
@NbaJunkie dues ex is realy good and costs about 20 brand new on amazon
@rjejr @MajinSoul @sinalefa Smash Wii U release date is being announced on Friday's Treehouse stream.
@BensonUii Really? Sonic Boom? REALLY?
Also #Projectunderscore is officially a thing mainly because i don't want Bayonetta 2
6 month delay for a Map on the Gamepad and Off TV play?? WTF?
After forcing myself to complete it on my PS4 I have to say it's one of the biggest gaming disappointments in history for me. The first 2 hours were kind of cool but then it became Assassin's Creed set in a slightly futuristic era.
The main character is about as generic as they come & while the story was interesting at first it quickly became quite monotonous and the gameplay along with it. They just tossed in a bunch of ridiculous & boring side quests to make it seem bigger.
It's not the worst game I've ever played but it's surely nothing to write home about. Luckily I was able to sell it used for $45 online so it was a decent $15 rental I guess.
Not really too interested. By November, I could probably get it cheap on PC. Now if it arrived on Wii U with significant gamepad use, all DLC and a 19.99 price point, sure.
Doubt many people will buy this considering its 6 months old and most people didn't seem to love it. Most people seemed to be very meh about it.
I'm more interested to see if people will simply preorder the sequel due to Ubisoft creating more hype and promising to fix whatever was wrong with this one.
@agqwestern
What, you'd buy watchdogs over Sonic Boom?
Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut on the wii u was WAY better, than Watch_Doges...
Too little to late...
I will get Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire on November 21, 2014...
UPDATE: Watch_Doges won't have DLC on the Wii U.
Watch_Doges will lose hard against Pokemon.
The sad thing is that Ubisoft releases this game several months after the other versions when most people who wanted the game have probably given up and just bought it for another system. Then when the Wii U version doesn't sell as much as they wanted they will blame us and say that "Wii U owners don't buy M Rated games"
Hate to say it but yeah I'm buying this. Still wishing that the secret game they've put on hold is ZombiU2 ;u;
It'll probably run like crap, tbh. Ubisoft Montreal doesn't put much effort into their Wii U ports.
When we needed you in the game draught your were nowhere to be found. Now when we are looking a first party game a month for 12-15 months here you are! I wasn't impressed when I played it on a PS4 I'll wait for reviews.
I love Nintendo and all that but with the wii u being my only console I sometimes miss a mature game, so when a game like this does appears no matter how late it is I'm still likely to pick it up...even more so with no c.o.d this year
I really hope I can use the gamepad screen as the in-game hacking phone, not only an in-game map. I'll pick this up when I can but with both Sonic Boom games coming out on November 29th in Australia iirc, there will be little chance I'll have the money to buy another full retail game a week before both Sonic Boom games come out. Maybe I'll pick it up in December or January.
I'll be definitely getting it. Yes, I've been more and more fed up with Ubisoft's crap - but at the end of the day, if a game looks appealing to me, and if it's available on my platforms of choice, I'll get it. Simple as that.
I do know that this is likely the last R-rated game they release on the Wii U, but hopefully Child of Light did well enough to warrant bringing us other future games like it (and I much prefer those kind of games anyway).
Ubisoft intentionally set this up to fail didn't they? Not only did they delay just the Wii U version, they're also up against very heavy competition on Wii U now.
This game will only have a chance if it's released at $30-40 pricepoint.
It'll probably be riddled with glitches, run sub 60 fps, receive none of the DLC, and be full priced; homie don't play that. I might get it when it's in the bargain bin for $20.
Im getting it but I hope this version has something unique to Wii U. Hacking with the gamepad would be better than pressing 'X'
I've already played it on my PS4 and hated it,So needless to say a will not be double dipping
I'm still hyped.
If the GamePad -functionality is done well, I don't need DLC and would be even content with passable, coughing graphics. Gyro aiming alone would get 60€ from me.
November 21st you say? Cool, count me in!
Fingers crossed for the DLC though.
@jafelix
They said it's a family game they were holding.
"...the only Wii U-specific features cited so far are an interactive map on the touch screen and off-TV play."
Thanks for the solid 6 month effort...
Also, if it's true that Smash Bros is coming out around the same time...um... good luck with that.
I'll get it. When it reach 9.99 in the trash bin.
@Grumblevolcano
No not yet, the long wait is not over just yet.
http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2014/09/10/report-super-smash-bros-wii-u-release-date-to-be-revealed-on-friday.aspx
@sinalefa LMAO!!!! NICE!!! It's like when they were delaying Rayman until September when GTA V was coming out! So now not only do they release WD when Pokemon come out but I hope The rumor is true and during the stream on friday they do announce the release date of SSB WiiU in the same week of November!!!! Seriously though they should realize that they lost us for now…hopefully they come back with ZombiU2 or the next Rayman
@rjejr i dont believe ur overposting. Speak ur mind my friend on this topic we absolutely see eye to eye
I fully expect this to sell poorly for all the reasons stated above. And like Assassin's Creed: Black Flag (Well, every Ubisoft game since the Prince of Persia series was ruined), I may pick this up once it hits $19.99 or lower and I am completely without anything to play (Currently have over 60 games in the backlog between Wii, Wii U and PC).
Horrible treatment of the Wii U platform and Nintendo fans. No one buy this, let them lose money for the way they've treated us.
Ubisoft...this is stupid. Nobody is going to buy the Wii U version, because it's already been released months ago on other platforms! When it sales terribly, you have nobody to blame but yourself.
@Grumblevolcano - Neogaf says no.
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=892448
And if don't like NeoGaf
http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2014/09/10/report-super-smash-bros-wii-u-release-date-to-be-revealed-on-friday.aspx?utm_content=buffera0660&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer
And apparently Kotaku started the rumour and even they are denying it now:
http://kotaku.com/source-nintendo-releasing-gamestop-only-nes-version-of-1632999308
I'm still expecting it though. If not now, when?
Better look and run great, we still have no idea what it's like
A release in january could be smart when Nintendo has nothing to publish, but in november is going to be very hard
Ubisoft has a gameplan, and it all revolves around finally stopping Nintendo support, once and for all. They're releasing the game months after the other versions; it's a port, which is probably done poorly; it is coming at a very busy game release time, probably coinciding with Smash Bros.. All of those factors are going to guarantee that this game is a commercial failure.
Don't think they don't know this. They KNOW what they're doing. They're a huge company. SOMEONE that works there has to have thought. "The release date for a delayed port of a mediocre game should NOT be during a time where Nintendo may even possibly consider releasing one of their biggest IPs."
So, they're going to use this game's poor sales as some sort of "proof", cancel all future Wii U releases, and that'll be that. No more AC, no more Splinter Cell, etc.
That said, I may get this game anyways. It looked interesting, and I own neither an XBO nor a PS4.
Well, a not so good game, with possibly a mediocre port and at a price as if it was a new game will have to compete against Super Smash Bros for Wii U, Captain Toad, and Bayonetta 2 (though it releases earlier). Then, they'll complain about its sales.
If it comes with all dlc included for $30, then this is a maybe.
Just once I wish they'd START development on a game with Wii U first, and treat us like fist class consumers. Make everyone ELSE wait until the Wii U version is done. I can't help that I wanted a more appealing gaming console with it's own rad screen-equipped gamepad!! I'll wait and see if DLC is coming before I decide...
A) I'll still be playing Bayonetta 2. B) I decided long ago I was never getting this game, on any system, whenever it launched.
But yeah, this is one of the stupidest decisions I've ever seen, even if you give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they know they're going up against Smash half a year late and don't think it will affect sales.
I hope they provide review copies prior to release dates. I have had it on pre order since day 1. As if it's a shoddy port with no specific WiiU exclusives on game pad that would excuse the delay then I will cancel prior to it being released.
However I have a sneak feeling that they will do what Activision did with Ghosts on WiiU in terms of it was released weeks ahead of any review so all those who pre ordered it will get it without knowing if it's good or not.
The least they should do now is release WiiU specific gameplay videos, graphics etc and start the WiiU promotion again.
@KillScottKill I agree.
@AcesHigh73 Hope we get some of the already revealed dlc free.
@audiobrainiac Yeah. If they would treat us like the other gamers their games would sell on Nintendo consoles. The same advertisements and hype they put around the PS4 and XB1 version is the same thing we deserve. You can't give us scraps and expect us to eat it up without complaining. I understand peoples views towards Ubi but we don't have any mature GTA style games and I really dig those types of games. I love my Nintendo 1st ,2nd and 3rd party exclusive titles but I want my Wii U to be a console for everyone.
An interesting read here: http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Watch-Dogs-Wii-U-Delay-Explained-It-Good-News-62673.html
If they did use gamepad to it's fullest potential (and Watch_Dogs seems to be a game made for gamepad with all this hacking stuff) then I don't see a problem with all the wait compared to other consoles. Might get the game day 1, I'll probably be finished with Bayonetta by then, so it's a game to occupy myself until Smash is out (which I expect to be out right before Christmas or St Nicholas day)
I'm waiting for a review of this. I'm planning to splurge my money come November. I'll buy the console for the Smash Bundle, then buy Bayonetta 2 and wait for review of this game. Even if other people say it's not good on the others, I hear it still beats some of the others this year. Not top tier, but not exactly shovel ware either.
Who's running Ubisoft? No Watch Dogs for Wii U. We said no; didn't you hear us!
Oh by the way we are releasing Watch Dogs AFTER it's been on all the other systems. WTF!?!?
I'll get this one! November 18 is fine, that's a month after Bayonetta 2. I might get Sonic Boom also, if it's sort of like Sonic Adventure. But these are 3 very different games for different moods.
Figured they'd do this, launch the game during the time of other AAA games and going to have to compete with games such as Smash, Pokemon (yes, its another system but people are not going to go spend massive amount of cash for two systems). Not to mention that people will have already bought Bayonetta 2 the previous month and then Sonic and Captain toad around there too... They obviously set this game up for failure just so they can justify not releasing any more games.
@NbaJunkie oh man, Deus Ex is so good though.
i'll pass until it's $19.99, since it's the last mature game on the wii u why would i feel pressured to support a company that is not supporting this platform
November, Pokemon, Sonic Boom and Lego Batman 3, umm, no thanks Ubisoft. Also, don't blame the Wii U owners for this game not doing well. We wanted that game months ago and the people who really wanted the game bought it on other systems.
So the price should be knocked down by $15-$20 bucks because no way am I going to chose watch dogs when more than likely Smash for Wii U comes out a couple days later, which I'm sure is going to happen.
@mateq If that's true then this game may be the result of a poor release schedule.
I don't understand why everyone is so negative (I'll happily play a 20 year old game if it's awesome ... and most of you would also do it!) and Watch Dogs, I think it will be the best version of them all in terms of gameplay due to the gamepad.
I'll buy it eventually, sure. Game Pad makes any game better.
If the framerate is steady at 30fps, I will buy it. If not. No watch dogs for me before pricereduction on pc. I have played both ac games on the wii u and they both run terribly bad. :-/
If the framerate is steady at 30fps, I will buy it. If not. No watch dogs for me before pricereduction on pc. I have played both ac games on the wii u and they both run terribly bad. :-/
@BensonUii And so will I
Im buying it...i cant wait to have a huge virtual city to explore.
@rjejr I had my drawing tablet plugged in anyway...

Oh hey, it comes out on my birthday...too bad all my interest in it died months ago.
@BensonUii i'm sorry, i could see the humor there, but are you saying that about sonic boom? lost world maybe, but boom?
Finally!
Seeing this reminded me of this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FeC8VHRHmgo
Dumb move Ubi.
I had bought it full price in spring. To me Watch_dogs was never in competition to Mario Kart 8 anyway and of course I had bought them both.
In November however ..it's almost impossible not to feel punked ..give us a reason to still buy this for good money Ubisoft!!!
So this is like a dog show simulator?
Busy with excelent mk8 and destiny...I will also get bayo2. I will not buy watchdogs neither on ps4 nor on wii u. Not pleased with ubisoft, ea and some others, did not like their aproach on the wii u, it was almost like if they were doing a favor by releasing bad ports with no online at a full price. Destiny is amazing try it.
Despite the mixed reviews, I'll still get it, I want Ubi back on the Wii U full steam. Haven't played any other versions, and I'm sure the Wii U version will be the best, since they've had time to iron out the bugs from the other versions, plus the gamepad will make it the best as well. Given the number of new owners that have increased so much due to MK8, I hope it sells well enough to put faith back into Ubi, and hopefully ZombiU 2.
@WingedSnagret You just may be right. Many Nintendo fans are bitter, so many will refuse to buy it out of protest. I really like Ubisoft, but they never really took a risk, with Rayman or anything since. We shall see
Silly time of year to release, and waaaaaaaay! to late.
I may get it again just because I really enjoyed it but online if it uses the gamepad in unique ways (no map on screen ubi!), All the DLC, tweaks to gameplay, and maybe a little more content and a behind the scenes video.
Buying a hype-dead game that proved to be vastly underwhelming when Bayonetta, Smash Bros, Hyrule Warriors and much more are around? No way, Ubi. Next time you'll have to release the game on time at the very least.
I don't understand Ubisoft... Releasing a game that was ready months ago for a November launch during the WiiU's biggest game and busiest season? And Ubi wonders why their games don't sell?
wow, both of the people who still care must be delighted!
@Shiryu "I will buy it, full price even if the other versions are discounted already. I manage to remain spoil free up to now, so I will rather enjoy the ride. But when this games fails to sell millions, I just hope Ubisoft realizes most people are not as patient as me. A shame too, I wanted to also give them wvwn more of my money, as if they put the new "Assassin's Creed Rogue" on the system."
I managed to stay spoil free these last few months as well. Playing Final Fantasy XIV and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate helped, but now I'm all RPG'd out. I'm itching for a sandbox. I was going to give Ubisoft all of my money if they put Rogue and Unity on the Wii U as well, but they just had to get my hope up...heartless bastards.
Wow they care so much about sales and there releasing it, in the month were the big games coming for the Wiiu and 3DS or any console. They should really know any of those games will destroy this crappy port in sales genius move Oobiesoft.
While I'm FI-nally warming up to the idea of a WiiU on my shelf soon for the different range of games it offers, games like Watchdogs wouldn't do it. I wasn't that impressed by the ps4 one so I can't see how this one would meet or exceed expectations. It looks like the WiiU is going to be a heavy 1st party system which is both good and bad. @Dreamcaster-X said it best above really, exactly my thoughts on it. (After that I can't imagine Ubisoft will ever learn to find good writers and actors when GTA games still feel more truly mature than any of their serious 'historical' drama games; corniest stories/acting ever.)
The more of you that doesn't but it the more reason Ubisoftnhas for not releasing any mature games on WiiU. You not supporting means less third party which means less WiiU players
@kensredemption For better or for worse WATCH_DOGS will be Wii U's GTA. I hope I am wrong and we see more third party games on the system in the future...
@Shiryu I thought LEGO City Undercover was the Wii U's GTA.
@SuperWiiU It would be if not for those loading times...
@GuyWithTheGames
I'm kinda lost on what post are you referring. I meant I'd rather support Sonic Boom day one than Watchdogs which both will be released on November. I really hope Sonic Boom for the Wii U will be good. An 8 from Thomas will be a day one buy for me.
I like how the trailer was CGI-only. 'Cuz they're totally not hiding anything or anything.
I gave up on this version when they delayed it. Got it for ps4.
That's some great gamepad features there Ubisoft. Why even release it ?
I don't sympathize with the idea of boycott a publisher. If you like a game, buy it. Do not like, do not buy. Simple as that. Regardless of the developer / publisher.
I was so excited for Watchdogs, being in Chicago myself, but it was a pretty big letdown. To compare it to GTA is... like comparing a flip phone to a modern smartphone:
the basic purpose is the same, it kind of goes online, it's sleek in an early 2000's kind of way, but ultimately it's an insult to call it an alternative to the real thing, GTA 5 "last gen" is just another level entirely I didn't even like those games before playing it.
You could maybe call W.D. a commendable attempt at a GTA4 clone; without driving controls. And Chicago? Chicago, Germany maybe if that was a place.
I'll just get it when it hits $20 on Amazon. I will be too busy with Omega Ruby and Smash Bros by then.
Half-Life 3 Confirmed
It's about flipping time!
...And of course the hype train has sailed and everybody knows this game is pretty much like any other and not THAT great, plus anybody who really wants to has already played it anyway. So it won't sell on the Wii U and Ubisoft will get their panties in a bunch and all we'll ever get from them again is Just Dance.
At this rate I barely want to buy their games on my PS4. Maybe I won't.
There's no way this will retail for $60, right? I'll get it as long as it sells for a reasonable price.
To be honest, Watch Dogs is probably the worst game I've played this year. The story is atrocious, the characters are unbearable, the driving is horrendous and the hacking is tedious.
@Zach Well it is made by Ubisoft so yeah is going to be 60 dollars for this port. But hey i might be wrong and it might be like 40 dollars, but i'm betting i'm not wrong. But wow they really want this version to fail don't they?
Yawn, Don't care, Ubisoft clearly wants it to fail and to be honest, it failed miserably on the other consoles too so, with the exception of anymore Far Cry games I'm done with Ubisoft completely like EA, except for Dead Space when it comes to EA
Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors and Smash Bros look far more fun so, yeah have fun selling 0 copies of this port.
So all these extra months of developement and the only exclusive feature WiiU gets is the interactive map - the bare minimum?! I thought the hacking concept would have gone hand in hand with the GamePad, but apparently UBI couldn't be bothered. Oh well, at least now they have enough clues to understand why they don't sell on Nintendo machines.
One Gamepad feature?! No comment.
Competing with Sonic Boom - are you out of your mind, Ubisoft?
@tovare Please, sonic lost world is much better than sonic adventure...
Speaking about mature games, where is Yazuka for release in US? Why didn't Sega localize Yazuka and release it?
I just got this game for 20€ on my Xbox 360 so no go for me. It's too late and there is so many other Nintendo games coming that I would not even bother playing this one!
can not wait to finally get my mitts on this game!
@NbaJunkie I'd recommend deus ex highly. Great game done properly for Wii u. I've only plyayed a little watch dogs on a friend's ps3 but it wasn't in the same class from what I saw. Of course its your call
i will buy it used
Yeah after seeing all of these comments here and some on other sites from Nintendo fans....this will probably be Ubisoft's last "mature" game on this system. You all already knew that the gamepad needed extra attention. So of course it wasn't going to release with the others. Still, I have to admit the date was pretty far out. Well I don't see much 3rd party in the Wii U's future anymore. I hope that's not the case.
Thank You Ubisoft for not being cruddy and doing something like a stealth release.
Now, all you need to do is announce DLC support and/or a reduced price and you just may actually get gamers to care again...but of course you WON'T do that bc it makes too much sense and would actually give the game a chance.
@KillScottKill Woah i found the fifth person who's going to blindly buy this crappy port.Wow so let's see the sales count, five copies have been sold!!Yay!! That means ubisoft will come back.
People complain about lack of AAA 3rd party games on Wii U, but ya give em one and they ridicule it.
I, unlike a good majority of commenters here, buy more than one game every 3 months. I don't care if it releases when Smash does, I'll just buy em both! Problem solved.
I skipped this game on PS4 and Xbox One because I won't pay a subscription for online, and because I like gamepad integration, and because I like off-TV play options. And because I enjoy supporting any developer willing to support Nintendo.
This is a good game. It got favorable reviews, it was generally well received, and it was one of the most high-profile AAA releases of 2014. This is exactly what people said they wanted. Yeah it's probably cheaper on other systems, so go buy it on another system if you want it cheaper. But like any game that gets ported to a new system, it sells for full price. Because it's new to THIS system.
I don't care how many copies this game sells, and I don't care if Ubisoft never brings a game again. That's not what it's about. It's about enjoying good video games when they come. This is exactly what people said they wanted, and it's what I wanted. So I'm going to buy the game, play it, and I'm going to enjoy every last minute of it.
The rest of you can do whatever you want.
Actually I think we need to clarify a few things.....One is that AC4 was much betterr on WiiU than AC3. Actually I found the game pretty competent and playable from a technical standpoint. Fast load times, nice textures, decent online, and the framerate was no worse and to me seemed better than ps3. Aslo the grafx enigine in Splinter Cell BL on WiiU was also very solid, although the load times and online were bad, the solo campaign was fun and worth playing.
Everyone knows Ubi heavily discounts games and quick so just wait a month or two and this will be under $30. I have mixed feelings because this game was so 'meh' on other platforms. Normally if you are going to release a late port then it should be of a top flight game that has demand or a game you can improve. DeusEX was an excellent example and BatmanAC and NFSMW were also quality late ports worth owning on WiiU. Those were popular games that mostly tanked on WiiU.
I really wish we would get Farcry3 port or square would give us Tomb Raider or for god sakes GTA5. Most likely WiiU will never be fertile ground for these type games so its Ps4 and WiiU for me and I won't miss a thing.
I fully support the release of this game FINALLY for those who waited! I hope it's everything you want it to be, and your sales prove that Wii U owners want Ubisoft games Good to see another 3rd party release, it's going to be a killer holiday season for Nintendo!
@JaxonH People hate this game because it got delayed for a long time. And the only thing Wiiu owners are going to get is a map on the gamepad, wow day one purchase. But the thing that pisses people more is there is no trailer showing Wiiu footage cause they had a long time to make this port. And they don't want to show it? Something seems off and it doesn't deserves anyone's attention cause, this port is going to be terrible. But hey they might prove me wrong and add online and have DLC, But the facts are stacked against them cause with Ubisoft making good ports for the Wiiu that never happens. With the exception of Rayman legends.
I am really interested in seeing how this game turns out. No footage has ever been shown so it's probably bad, but with this many extra months of dev time I expect the game to be fully optimized at least.
Hahaha, this way beyond too hilarious. Six month delay just to add a map and off tv play.
Hahaha, Yves Guillemot is really funny.
Especially if he tries to sell this higher than 19.99 price tag on the release date. Also, all DLC should be included in the main package to make up for the delay that they in the end did for no good reason.
Where are the gameplay videos for the Wii U version? Why was this only announced because something happened to leak in Mexico?
@midnafanboy Map on the gamepad is fine with me. I mean, that's what it's there for. I only wish more games would put a map on the gamepad. One of the most convenient and streamlined uses of the second screen I've experienced to date. I'm not sure what people expect it to have, I mean it's just a screen. A map is as good a thing as any to display on it, especially if it's interactive like they're claiming.
I can understand being upset about no footage, but I know from personal experience that none of their ports were that bad. Sure, Splinter Cell was missing local co op, but it ran and played well, and more impressively it did it all from disc without needing a mandatory install like other versions. Online had some issues for the first month but so did every other version. It wasn't a Nintendo exclusive issue.
Assassins Creed 3 was just fine imo, even had that awesome George Washington DLC. Assassins Creed 4 was another decent one. People say it was a bad port just because it had a few less frames per second, and I just don't understand that. Sonic Lost World had a bad frame rate and it almost sold 1 million copies. MH3U had frame rate issues and it's sold over half an million copies. And everybody's looking forward to sequels from both of those games. Yet AC can run a few frames less and it's this huge deal, like the game was broken or something.
So yeah, if anyone's wondering how good the port is going to be, I would say look no further than the quality of ZombiU, AC3, Splinter Cell Blacklist or AC4. I own all of those games and they're acceptable releases. Perfect? No. But I've played a lot shoddier and a lot worse. And on other consoles too. Most PS3 ports from 360 ran worse than Wii U ports from Ubisoft. Yet people still went out and bought the games by the drove. I mean I've actually played games that were unplayable. Once you play a game that is actually broken, it puts things in perspective. Occasional frame rate dips or lack of DLC is hardly enough to quench the enjoyment of a thoroughly entertaining video game. And I always try to look at the bigger picture. If I'm getting off TV play and map integration on the gamepad, and subscription free online, I'm willing to trade off for a few frames per second or DLC support.
But hey, that's just me.
@JaxonH Well i won't hate on you for buying this game cause i have to much respect for you to do that. And if you're happy with the Wiiu features then go right ahead buy it. Maybe i will buy it maybe until i ask some people who bought it and they say is a great port that is.
@midnafanboy yeah don't get me wrong, Ubisoft isn't exactly in my good graces right now with some of their more recent statements and actions, but I never let something like that come between me and a good game.
Once I get it, I'll give you an honest, unbiased opinion on what I think of it. I'm not afraid to call it how I see it. If the game sucks, you can trust me when I say that I'll tell you exactly that lol...
I can understand why so many people don't want to buy it considering it's supposedly not all that great and many Wii U owners are rightfully pissed off at Ubisoft these days.
But I beg you guys to reconsider. If this sold well on the Wii U, there's a good chance Ubisoft might reconsider their new BS "no more mature titles on the Wii U" crap.
@JaxonH Alright sounds like a plan friend.
@midnafanboy That's because Rayman Legends wasn't a port. That was built from the ground up for the Wii U and as you may recall, was originally going to be a Wii U exclusive. It's actually the 360 and PS3 versions that are ported over from the Wii U build. That's frankly the only reason the Wii U version is actually the best version.
@NbaJunkie Deus Ex was amazing. I would highly suggest still getting it.
I have a amazon pre-order!! Support please nintendo fans
@cheleuitte Not gonna happen until they give a reason to buy this port.Maybe Nintendo fans will buy,but don't bet on it.
@Shiryu
Wii U's GTA is Lego City Undercover, just awesome !
I'll consider a purchase if they make good use of the gamepad. I'd like to support it just in case Ubi ever decides to finish Beyond Good and Evil 2. Knowing them though, they'd probably skip Wii U on that game anyway.
Well is like doing a big favor so maybe ubisoft will consider supporting again WiiU, and is a good game have a great gameplay!! and awesome graphics!!
Might also consider a purchase if it doesn't try to bleed $60.00 out of me for a 5 month old game. Not likely, but I like to think there's at least a little bit of intelligence in everyone.
I'm buying it, but I think I'll wait for a price drop.
I'll buy it if all current DLC is included. This time should've been spent making it Arkham City level quality (heavy Gamepad support, all DLC, etc). Somehow I doubt this is the case unfortunately, especially since they practically admited there's not a snowball's chance in hell we'll get future M-rated titles. Probably not even the inevitable sequel.
If it reviews well and plays well (not as buggy and glitchy as ACIII (which ACIV was good, so I expect this to be better than that)), I'll get it sometime down the line. I have no incentive to get it at launch and on top of that, I have no money, so I won't even be getting Smash, Hyrule Warriors, Omega Ruby, or Bayonetta 2 at launch.
I did impulse buy Mario Kart 8 in May... Good thing I didn't have to choose between Mario Kart and Watch Dogs. Thanks, Ubisoft!
I'm really looking forward to this. If it has the DLC included, that would rock. If it has an exclusive mission set, that would be incredible. If it just runs at a steady 30 FPS, I'll probably pick it up.
Smart move Ubisoft! Launch Watch Dogs on Wii U when Smash 4 on Wii U is expected to come out.
Then complain about sales and what not. Very logical, very smart.....
Oh yeah! I nearly forgot about the Wii U version. Unfortunately, I'm not too confident that a whole bunch will buy it.
Problem is it's severely late AND it hasn't reviewed all that well. We WiiU owners, in general, don't like to be snubbed and it simply isn't as great a game as it was supposed to be. I would have bought it at launch alongside the rest of them but now the game just doesn't sound like it's much fun at all. I don't want it anymore. Maybe if it were heralded as a masterpiece (or just really great) I'd get it just to support Ubi but I'm not buying a mediocre game just to convince them I buy 3rd party. I buy good 3rd party, not so-so and late to the game 3rd party.
What happened to all the amazing unique features for the gamelan that made this the best version and the sole reason for the delay?
Or was it finished ages ago and they've help onto it to release in November for Xmas seen as they're not releasing Assassins creed now?
Okay I'm putting aside my annoyance for this game being delayed for half a year. Okay. There. It's over there, I'm over here. I will not get this game because it is a bad game. Period. I do not willingly purchase bad game unless they are dirt cheap and/or have a particular quality, game play or story, that I really want to experience no matter what.
I've seen the story of W_D and no. I will not spend money on that. I've seen the game play and it is not what I was promised or what I hoped for. I've read reviews of many talking about how clunky this or that in the game was, and seen videos proving the flaws and problems in the game.
I don't think we should just support third party just to support it, nor do I think we should boycott it when it's late because that's not going to help much either. What needs to be done is we buy games we feel that are worth a damn. We spend our money on quality products and make it known that that is the reason why we didn't buy this or that third party exclusive. Not because it wasn't Nintendo, but because it's crap. And we should speak out louder and loudest about that reason because that is the real reason any gamer plays games, to have fun. If it's not fun, we don't buy it. Maybe if they started seriously gearing their games to Nintendo fans, they'd sell more. Rather than make excuses and show numbers with just their explanations of why things didn't work. What kind of nonsense is it someone tells you why you buy or do something, or what you buy and do? Don't you know why you do or buy what you do? Shouldn't you be the one telling them that?
@ShadyKnights very well said, you just cut through a massive pile of bull and went straight to the point. I salute you. Personally, I've mixed feelings on this that only reviews will help with. In other words, I'll actually check out the game before I decide!!
It won't sell on a Nintendo machine because it's a third party game on a Nintendo machine. Doesn't matter whether it's late and a poor port, late and a great port that uses the beloved Gamepad (Deus Ex, NFS:MW), at the same time as the other formats (AC4, COD), mature (Batman, Splinter Cell, Red Steel 2) or seemingly perfect for Nintendos demographic (Zack and Wiki, Lego Marvel Super Heroes) it won't sell as it isn't a Nintendo game.
For the record it's a decent game on PS4 though the driving controls are an acquired taste! I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't have another format to play it on, given the dearth of similar games on Wii U.
This announcement appears to be a knee jerk reaction to the Mexico leak, and as such is very bland in its information. Everyone is damming this game due to it only having off TV play and a map on the pad to show for the five month delay. Yes i too would be standing beside you all with my plackard if that was confirmed as 100% from the horses mouth. However the reviewer states 'cited so far' and I can't find anywhere an official press release from Ubi detailing the WiiU specifics of this version.
I'm hoping Ubi will now drip feed gameplay footage of the WiiU version including the pad specifics in the coming months and release review copies prior to release date so I can make an informed choice as to cancel my pre order or not. Here's hoping.
For those saying "if we don't buy it, then Ubisoft will think Mature games are not for the Wii-U"...
...simple solution: buy Bayonetta 2 and show them that Mature games released on Wii-U do work when they are released at the proper time, with actually marketing and not run by a company who delayed the Wii-U version of Rayman Legends to release it alongside the Xbox/PS versions, but couldn't delay the Xbox/PS version of this game to release alongside the Wii-U version?
I will only be getting this if the game ends up getting really good reviews.
If all the reviews say what I fear (just a lackluster port that should not have taken this long) I will pass on it entirely.
I will be buying watch dogs on Wii u day one because I want the game and Wii U is my console of choice.
@Megaman_D, if you like getting burned, by all means...
I'm telling you straight up, though: The game didn't live up to the hype either graphically or gameplay wise and the Wii U port will be gimped with poor performance and graphics because Ubisoft wants the Wii U to fail and wants an excuse to not have to do actual work when porting to another console.
Check out this YouTube video it purports to show leaked footage of the Wii version , yes I said Wii version not the WiiU of Watchdogs. It also shows you the disks of both WiiU and Wii versions.
Personally I think it's made up and I'd hate to think the footage shown is really the WiiU.
What do others think?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JS3qKKjSzwg
When it absolutely bombs, Ubisoft will whine once again about how mean and childish Nintendo console owners are for not buying their overpriced mediocrity.
@Laxeybobby - Faked!
Nice job with the graphic layout on the discs. Notice he doesn't show the boxes? Discs are super easy to mock up and print out a fake but very pretty label.
For the footage? They didn't even bother to show him playing with a Wii-mote...because he probably didn't have the blu-tooth adapters and stuff set up to fake it, Wii motes are a little trickier to get to run as a PC controller then most standard controllers.
What about the footage itself?
Obviously it's low setting PC footage captured and compressed down to a standard def file and played back at a low framerate.
DEBUNKED
Yeah, no doggeyoopsiepoopiepoodle. Why would they take unfinished software like this and master it to a real metallic disc instead of just burning it and writing "Watch_Dogs, internal copy, do not distribute" on it?
@Action51 Yep, that's exactly what will happen. They'll release a piss-poor port, remove DLC and DLC capabilities, charge $60 bucks for it and then complain and moan because nobody bought it.
@Salamihawk - It's not that:
"Ubisoft wants the Wii U to fail and wants an excuse to not have to do actual work when porting to another console."
It's that Ubisoft and a handful of Mega-publishers (EA, Activision) get treated like kings by Sony and Microsoft who funnel money and free promotion to them because they NEED that content on their systems to survive...unlike Nintendo they can't survive on first party.
Ubisoft wants Nintendo to succeed and they want to make money from Nintendo console owners...however, they don't want to bother to market to, or respect Nintendo console owners. The one size-fits-all approach they take with Sony and Microsoft doesn't work, and it's less profitable for them.
@DefHalan : It may be delayed so they can include all DLC on disc fore free.
A barebone release won't sell much unless its cheap.
But why going head to head with Smash Bros instead of Mario Kart 8?
Is it so they can blame poor sales again?
Why are UBI doing anything they can to sell bad on Wii U anyway, then blame bad sales.
I won't be getting it on release, it's too close to the super smash bros wii u release date (assuming SSB is releasing end of November)
No special Wii U Gamepad features then? :/
It doesn't matter if we buy it on release or not, Ubisoft have made it quite clear they wont be supporting the Wii U with "mature" titles from now on. They're only releasing it on the Wii U now to help recover any production costs they've incurred on the (very late) port of the game.
I'll wait for it to drop in price - I've had to wait since it released for everything else back in May anyway, so I might as well wait a bit longer for the price to drop.
I buy games that I want to play regardless of who has made them, now to be honest I am not the biggest fan of Ubi Soft's games all I have of theirs is Zombi U and splinter cell blacklist. I have never liked the AC games so they can keep em, in fact I don't care about any of ubi soft's games. Watch dogs was the only one that caught my eye and it's coming to the Wii U. I would like them to give us a Zombi U sequel, then they can take a walk.
@AdanVC - Quote "least we can do is support it and buy it for the honor. Yes, it's a pretty average/bad sandbox game. Yes, it has tons of flaws and bugs"
So let me get this straight. You believe we should spend £45 or $60, which may not be easy for some people, on a game that isn't very good and has tons of flaws and bugs?
That has got to be the worst message us gamers can give to the developers/publishers!! Games should be bought on quality and entertainment value. Not for hype, or nostalgia, or just because its mature, or just because it's the last we'll get.
If you believe this game is good and will give you enjoyment, buy it. But don't buy it for the wrong reasons.
@NbaJunkie Deus Ex really is amazing...
I was so excited for this at the beginning of E3, it was even my most anticipated Wii U game of the year at one point. Since then the excitement has ebbed and I've heard pretty negative things from my friends who got it. I really wanted to reward Ubi for bringing this to us... but it really is so late now.
If they have utilised the console's features, include at least some DLC and market it at a semi-reasonable price rather than £60 I will still pick this up.
Otherwise I will probably wait for an eshop sale or something.
Ok, I saw a comment stating that the reason for delaying was extra time to get it working on the gamepad. You do realise that you don't need to use the gamepad, right? Nintendo's own Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze doesn't use it. I've already played Watch_Dogs and it's not that great, I don't see how using the gamepad will make it playable. You also don't even need to play the game with the hacking ability. You can play it like GTA and still finish the game, minus the times you are forced to use it. The game is too late. I'll be too busy playing Bayonetta 2, Smash Bros, Pokemon, Sonic Boom and Lego Batman to care about it. Also, maybe if they don't charge their games so damn high, then Ubisoft would have sold more titles. Assassins Creed 3 was 50 bucks, I'm not paying that much for a game. Then there was Rayman Legends. You screwed up too Ubisoft. It's easy to blame the gamers but when you treat them like second class people, you shouldn't be surprised nobody buys your games. That said, I got some nice bargins in the eshop sale.
Ubisoft: Let's release this game months later than the other versions, and put it up against major first party Nintendo releases during the holiday season as well! #ubisoftlogic
Wii U Owners: Meh, bought it months ago for my Xbox or Playstation, or can get it pretty cheap for my Xbox or Playstation now, or wouldn't be surprised to see it in a Steam sale soon. I'd rather buy Bayonetta 2 or Super Smash Bros instead.
Ubisoft: See! This is proof! Nintendo gamers don't want mature games! It's YOUR fault we're scaling back support for the Wii U.
@ToxieDogg I wish we could Like posts here. You would have got one.
I've purposely held off buying this for PS4, because I want to support the Wii U, but I will only buy it if the Wii U version has all the options, and DLC as the PS4 version.
This game has garbage performance on my PC, which dwarfs the PS4 and Xbox One. They'll have to have actually optimized the game in some for to get it running on the Wii U and have it be close to equal to the PS4/XB1/PC versions, and I know they won't do that. Sigh.
@DefHalan Yeah, for real. A lot of people cited Mario Kart as being the reason behind the delay. If it's coming out in November, everyone with or interested in a Wii U will be saving their pennies for Smash, not Watch Dogs.
@Action51 Thought as much. That it was a fake. Can't imagine Ubi ever working on a Wii version. Was amazed the WiiU version made it to the release.
Trouble is we don't need this fakery when we don't even have Real WiiU footage. I suppose it was funny for the person who made it to ridicule us Nintendo users.
@Trikeboy Thanks
I don't see how anybody can defend what Ubisoft have done here. Even they themselves must know they've messed up, just like they only had themselves to blame for the Rayman Legends fiasco last year. Ubisoft and other third parties could have made a decent amount of money on Wii U, had they treated their potential customers with a little more respect, instead of taking the childish 'Well it's THEIR fault, not ours!' stance when gamers react by not buying a million copies of their overpriced, very late, usually lazy ports.
I'm surprised the usual contingent of third party 'white knights' hasn't been on here yet defending Ubisoft with the usual 'They're a business, they have to make money' nonsense because for the most part it's been through their own decisions and misplaced assumptions that they've lost a lot of potential sales. Much easier to just blame everybody else though.
it could be canceled and it wouldn't make a difference to me
@Cyberbotv2 No game will start at $19.99 don't be unrealistic but if we get Watch dog for $39.99, I'd be interested if the DLC are included @ $39.99, I will buy it.
It's not like there much else to play on the WiiU this holiday season. WiiU owner that haven't played the game and don't own a Ps4 or Xbox One, should be interested.
@NbaJunkie Who, whoa, WHOA... Deus Ex HR is an infinitely better game than Watch_Dogs on any platform. Cheaper, too. And the Wii U version is the best we are going to get.
Played three hours on my PC and got bored.. That's how fun the game is.
@yvanjean: I don't think the average Wii U owner would purchase Watch Dogs this late at a 40 dollar price tag. My unrealistic price and packaging would be Ubisofts best bet at attracting Wii U owners. In the end, it doesn't matter because it probably won't sell well anyway. Ah well.
@Cyberbotv2 Well at least $39.99 they're at least making an effort.... let's face it the game will release at $59.99 with statement soon after the release that further support drop from WiiU due to the bad sales figures from Watch Dogs.
I might get this game but I don't know which version I will pickup yet since right after the Wii U version release it will be time for blackfriday so I might end up picking it up on PS3 for way cheaper instead of full price.
@delt75 : They have to include all DLC for free to make it sell. Then it should be a little lower priced too.
@WingedSnagret This, and its their last "mature" game, they already announced that nobody buys their "mature" games (i wonder why?) so after Watch Dogs, all we'll see from them in the future is Let's Dance and other poopoodoodoocacapoopledoople causal games.
@BensonUii Umm... YEAH
