A Summer release is right around the corner, and anticipation for Nintendo's inky online shooter Splatoon is at an all-time high. With an ocean of unique mechanics to learn and plenty of content, it's good to know that Prima will be releasing a game guide to help you conquer those slimy octopuses.
The 240-page paperback guide has been listed on Amazon for pre-order, complete with a rundown of what's included.
Alongside a complete guide to both the single-player and online modes - with tips on how to beat bosses, solve puzzles, and efficiently splatter areas with your team's colour - a "Style and Firepower" section will show how to unlock special weapons and clothing to customize your Inkling. Strategies specific to each of the main weapon types are also included, from ink rollers to Splattershots.
Prima is also including a code to access the digital eGuide - a mobile version of the strategy guide for easy access while playing. While this would generally be a "second-screen experience", on Wii U it'd actually be your third. The future is here!
The guide costs $14.99 USD in the US, £9.99 in the UK, and is currently set for release on May 31st, though that's likely to be a temporary estimate.

SPLATOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!
Aaaand... preordered! Probably won't use it, but more Splatoon is always great!
I've preordered the game but I'm not sure about the guide. I tend to get these guides more for collecting reasons or if I get really deep into a game and I want to develop further. I may get it for the artwork, though!
Cool! Maybe, not sure. Hyped for spatoon though
The cover art is wonderful!
Because everyone needs a guide to play a shooter...
Cool artwork though.
It's a PRIMA guide, so knowing that it's probably full of assumptions and errors due to being rushed for release date.
GameFAQs or any discussion board is usually far better for getting necessary information on anything people find problematic or challenging.
@Pius
I could see it meaning something if it's for the single player campaign, which could have Nintendo's ingenuity for how to beat a stage.
The cover art alone makes this guide almost worth it. Won't buy this guide or even Splatoon at launch, but there is a lot of hype towards its release!
@RupeeClock
I have to agree. On top of that, PRIMA guides usaully also contain a lot of artwork, which can make it a really cool collectible.
@Pius
That's definitely a nice perk of PRIMA guides is their presentation.
But my main concern is information, which they can get wrong.
For example, in their Animal Crossing New Leaf guide, their guide to growing blue roses is to breed black and purple roses.
That was correct back in Animal Crossing Wild World for the DS, in New Leaf the breeding process is much more convoluted and involves breeding orange roses and purple roses, then breeding red roses from those orangle/purple roses, and breeding those red roses with themselves to produce blue roses.
I need this game!
@RupeeClock
I second that. I think it's largely due to the fact that they have to publish the guides very close to (or even before) the release date of the games. Therefore there's almost no time for them to proof-read/proof-play their writings.
Since their prices are generally reasonable, I can forgive them the occasional slip-up.
Big news on the Nintendo front again today I see.
I ordered. Only other guide I own is MM3D (the special edition), used the online version from the included code
Preordered just for the hype, lol.
Okay I'm gonna pre order this just because I love the cover. However I'm a little annoyed that I can pre order a strategy guide from Amazon, however they cancelled my pre order of Splatoon because it's become unavailable. That happened either just before or just after Christmas and still it's unavailable.
A guide for an online shooter before it's released? I mean, I get that it's cool for collectors to have with the art and so on, but, really... ?
One week of online gaming makes everything that's about to get written in this guide completely obsolete.
I would buy if it was hardcover. Oh well.
In each one most of the info was incorrect after the first patch for the Diablo series guides.
However the art and backstories were fantastic.
