After a series of ongoing release promises and the eventual confirmation that Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs was indeed on its way to Nintendo’s latest home console, new information has surfaced that the Wii U entry will not include any downloadable content.
The announcement was delivered via the official Watch Dogs Twitter account when a Nintendo fan queried Ubisoft about the upcoming Wii U release. This discovery is somewhat unsurprising news considering just how long Watch Dogs has been in the pipeline for Wii U now, and has still not arrived.
Of course, this is not the first time Nintendo fans have been given the cold shoulder when it comes to additional download content. A number of other big-hit titles previously released on the Wii U have also failed to include DLC after very quiet – and occasionally delayed – releases.
Watch Dogs is due out in North America on the 18th of November and Europe on the 21st of November. Let us know in the comments how you feel about this latest news regarding the dismissal of downloadable content, and if it has deterred you from picking up the Wii U iteration of Watch Dogs on release.
Thanks to Ryan Millar for the tip!

How hard could it be?
The twitter post was hastily removed... Has there been official confirmation now?
Edit: early reports stated this tweet was removed. I have been advised otherwise, thanks @sdcazares1980
Apologies for the misinformation.
I've seen lots of complaints about this but the fact Ubisoft hasn't shown any desire to demonstrate the Wii U version makes me think it is going to be the worst of the last gen versions....
Ubisoft just sounds like: "Oh yeah, that's right we said we'd release Watch Dogs on Wii U. Know what? Just give'em the bare bone experience, it won't sell anyway."
Really, Ubi is disappointing me more and more...
I could slightly understand no DLC if this was 2012/early 2013 because Nintendo pretty much had no interest in the concept of DLC. But now where there's 8 new tracks (and other content) coming to Mario Kart 8 in November; lots of extra content for Hyrule Warriors coming over the next few months including a new scenario and there's already a large number of mission mode levels for Pikmin 3, no DLC is pathetic.
Go on and support this BS.
I can't really blame them. Sales for this game are going to be really low with or without the DLC. Nintendo's 1st party games aren't even selling well on the Wii U.
Let's just hope its a good port and worth the wait for the few that have been waiting for this game.
@MAN1AC Wrong. MK8 has sold PLENTY!
Make good ports of games and people will buy it. Delay it half a year, remove all bonuses and then complain about Wii U owners for not buying their games? Don't be surprised by crap sales. On top of that, Watch Dogs was a disappointment to many and as the months have gone by it certainly hasn't helped its reputation.
2014 truly is the year of overhyped mediocrity! (This includes Titanfall and Destiny )
As expected.
Disappointing, but I won't let it stop me from picking the game up. I don't own the other consoles and I don't have a gaming PC.
Really, who cares anymore?
I was really hyped about this game, like a year or so ago.
I kinda just expected that there wouldn't be any extras, so no surprise there.
There are so many good games now and in the near future that I'm not sure that I'll get Watch Dogs anytime soon.
Maybe all previous DLC's are included in Wii U version so there is no reason to have any paid DLC. That would be nice.
getting the game will be a bonus let alone DLC, its definitely a must buy for me, I have no other consoles so getting to play anything other then a Nintendo game is abit of a rare treat
Ubisoft... You had the change to make things good and you blew it... Maybe I'll get this one when it reaches a really low price, like Ubsoft games use to in short time. Still, that's sad, I once liked this company.
@DarkJamD This is the only decent solution. If you are going to release a game SKU this far behind the others, the minimum you can do is to have the additionally developed console included.
I was so eager for this game this time last year...
@DarkJamD They've already confirmed that yesterday's DLC isn't included in the game. http://twitter.com/watchdogsgame/status/514851665120616448

The thing is, if they had released this at the same time as the other console versions, it would have sold. Now, much like myself, people have lost interest in the game and the fact that it will be going up against smash doesn't help at all! Disappointed but not really surprised.
If all previous DLC isn't included, then there is no selling point for the 6 month delay.
And the touch pad features is said to be a map, and maybe weapon selection.
@Sadodi
As someone who has purchased all those titles with the exception of Tekken I will tell you how dissapointed I was with those companies for missing out content that was available on other systems within those games, or content was deayed so much I didnt think it would ever come out. True I love the wiiU versions because prefer using offTV mode but given a choice of buying a game on a system where you could have the opportunity to get all the content at some point or buying it for a system where only half the content is available you would probably want to get it on the system with all the content. So as far as im concerned those games had a bad launch because the third parties hadnt supported them well to start with.
What does the wii u third party calendar look like for 2015?
@Boxmonkey Nonexistent outside of indie games.
@undomiel Samers, shamers
@Sadodi Most of those games came out months before they released on WiiU and had problems like bugs, framework issues and content removed from the WiiU version . Yes they supported it but We are not stupid enough to waste our money on gimped games.
If it wasn't for the eventual backlash and just provide more fuel for the "Duh! Mature games don't sell on the Wii U" BS, I'd suggest all potential buyers take a photo of themselves with the sign "I wanted Watch Dogs on Wii U, but I don't buy gimped games" and maybe it'll finally get through Ubisoft's thick Titanium laced skulls that we ain't too keen on being royaly screwed.
All this time, they could have at least added some unique content or even added some of the DLC in but no. It's almost insulting and it can be used as a pooper scooper for all I care.
I have just looked up third party titles due in 2015 and found 4 games:
Project cars, human Element, ashes cricket (2013) and sacrirgium.
This time next year the wii u will be on its way out. Zelda will be the swan song.
When those games are released so late in the day that the DLC was already available for those other systems you would have thought they would have released it on the wiiu port, and considering many of those had been released before the 3rd party backlash that shouldnt have been an issue.
I could understand if the game had been released at the same time and the DLC was promised and then pulled due to lack of support from the customers but this hasnt been the case. I myself have bought DLC on the wiiu when available and I do own multiple systems but avoided buying on ither systems because I wanted to support the Nintendo version.
One of the reasons their games dont sell as well on the wiiu as opposed to other systems IS because they dont give all the content that is available elsewhere.
That's why Wii U owners dont buy third party,, that's because they don't get all the content and that's why they don't buy more third-party games from these companies. It's really that simple!
@FX102A Better idea: I'm still buying my "gimped" version of Watch_Dogs, take a pic of it with a sign that tells Yves Galamount (Sp) to "Go F--- Himself"!
@Sadodi Besides Rayman Legends (which was built for the WiiU as an exclusive until that bull**** delay) Name me one game that was on par with the other releases?
Third party companies expect us to buy these gimped versions and when we don't it's our fault? Games tend to not sell when they are half done, delayed for one console, or have bugs.
Example: Let's talk about Mass effect 3. Why release only that one on Wiiu? Then release a trilogy on the ps3 and 360 afterwards and not give WiiU owners the same game?
@Sadodi
Mass Effect 3 U = released alongside the trilogy on other platforms and was full price.
Assassins Creed 3 U = bugged and not just a little and had the added bonus of framerate issues.
Batman Arkham City U = Granted, nothing really wrong with this title.
Tekken Tag tournament 2 Wii U Edition = It is the definitive version but was already released on other platforms in September 2012 and it's a Tekken game meaning it's a niche title.
Darksiders II U = nothing wrong with it (as far as I have experienced) but the game isn't anything special and was already released on other platforms.
the majority of 3rd party games on the U have been missing content and features, had framerate issues, many bugs and/or launched later than on other platforms (launch titles are excused of the latter because that's understandable)
@Kosmo Ubisoft will make a loss on the Wii U port, they aren't a charity. In fact, they would possibly make less of a loss by quietly releasing it for free or $5 as a download only title.
My experience of the third party games is that the do actually perform better than my 360 versions of the game but having things cut from the main game or having DLC would affect my choice of which platform the buy on if it wasnt for offTV mode. I think there are some solid ports that if they had been advertised well enough, released at the same time as the other systems and had the same content then yes they could have sold well. As it is at the moment, people don't want to buy gimped versions.
With the exception of that fitness game, I think over time ive picked up all the ubisoft games on the wiiu and on the whole think they play pretty well... howeve they are still gimped and having the choice of investing all your time into a game that you will never get the full experience or buying it for another console you will buy for the other console or not even bother at all.
Sooooo, why even release the game?
... I just want to play the damn game already.
@FX102A if people wanted those games on Wii U then Ubisoft wouldn't have made such a big loss on each one - even quick ports of mature games by all 3rd parties have been done at a loss. It's better than nothing, and I am sure many people within each company have been screaming in board meetings that dropping the system is better than making a loss, especially when they get such hate despite the service they are providing at a loss.
Ubisoft, just don't release it anymore. Stop burning your money and time on something you already predict doom and gloom on. I wanted to support this game, despite the bad reviews, but your company doesn't want the support. It's bad enough that the other versions have barrels of bugs and frame rate issues, but if making a game set up to fail (unnecessary delays, phoned-in code translation from the source code, no dlc, then expecting fans to pay full price) is their plan to use a tax write off, they really should just get out of the video game business entirely.
My mouse is hovering over the cancel pre order button. But I hesitate as this is all just rumour as nothing official has been announced yet about the WiiU specific features, gamepad utilisation and DLC unless you class these Twitter messages as official Ubisoft notifications.
Surely UbiSoft has a press officer that nintendolife can contact for official comment?
In the meantime I'm holding off the cancellation until I know something more solid. Let's face it I can cancel anytime up to the release date, which I will do if nothing is made clearer prior to that date.
Good ports have pretty much always sold very nicely on Nintendo platforms. Of course, people became alert after sticking their fingers on couple of Wii turds, and after sticking fingers into poopoopoo a couple of times, one tends to remember what companies to trust. And these companies have not advertised anything, but negative aspects of their ports for Nintendo platforms.
And the way how Ubisoft has treated the Wii U version of the Watch Dogs tells you, that it is obvious that they are not even trying to sell the game, they are just fulfilling some kind of contract as barely as possible.
Even, when I have had serious desire to play this game, I have abstained my self from playing it until I see the Wii U version, because you would think, that the game is practically made for GamePad (well, I am STILL going to check how it turns out). After hearing only bad news after this long wait, I have started to lost my appetite for the game...in fact, I'm losing my appetite for Ubisoft in general.
Same goes to Beyond Good and Evil 2;
when a camera game does not come to Wii U, you know that games are not art. (it is an art form obviously, but the products in general are so business oriented, that they are not even trying to get the most out of the most defining aspect of the medium, the gameplay. And I am bitter about it.)
@Sadodi Yes that's exactly what they're saying.
Well we could hope for the least buggy version with no need for DLC because its all included on the disc. Not convinced thats going to happen though.
I remember when fanboys used to argue Wii U's was gonna be the definitive version of Watch Dog, instead is going to be weakest version of a game that's not even that good to begin with
Further defeating the purpose of the delay. Ubisoft is a confusing little company with all the release flubs they've committed lately. Oh well, I've tried this game already and didnt like it very much. Bayonetta2 and eShop indies will be filling in that spot comfortably.
I already regret paying 30 and 70 euros for 2 AC games on the Wii U eShop. I'm done with giving these *ss-hats money. Was it that hard to include all of the or at least a couple of DLC items? You had like what? 6? more months to get them bundled with the game to make up for the delay.
Anyone buying this game thinking it will make Ubi dump more games on Wii U is a nutter. And anyone buying this game instead of Bayonetta 2, Hyrule Warriors or Smash? You're beyond saving. Go wash away the sin of even thinking about it. /rant
The launch of Watch Dogs on Wii U is pretty laughable.
Cue Ubisoft whining about Watch Dogs not selling on Wii U despite their "best efforts" in a couple of months.
We should be thankful that Watch Dogs was not even cancelled on WiiU.
Will buy a copy if framerate will be stable.
@liljmoore Most Wanted U was brilliant, but made such a massive loss.
Hold on a second, I'll get my pitchfork.
So gaming companies attempt to sell Wii U owners a product that is sub-par to its other iterations currently on the market for the same price and expect it to do as well as the previously released versions. Seriously, this is ludicrous.
'Of course, this is not the first time Nintendo fans have been given the cold shoulder....'
Sick of this. Not supporting Ubisoft anymore. Pre-order cancelled.
Will not be buying
@MadAdam81
I heard that it was the best version of the game. Im not really one for racing titles (except Mario Kart) but I keep thinking about picking it up.
Some people are clearly in denial here lol. NO DLC. Will not support this version.
@MadAdam81 A lack of marketing affected that version, I didn't even know it was out on the Wii U for a long time XP That one is where the corporate heads at EA and Nintendo are at fault. for not wanting to advertise the game >=o
Just another reason to wait for a convenient price (20 euros or even less)... on other consoles
@Sadodi I can and will blame a lot of stupidity on the third parties.
Did you honestly expect games like Batman Arkham City and Mass Effect 3 to sell well, given that Batman Arkham City was out on Xbox 360/PS3 a whole year before and heavily discounted on those formats, and Mass Effect 3 was not only months late but also launched at the same time Xbox 360/PS3 got the whole trilogy package for nearly the same price?!?
Assassin's Creed 3 is a bit of a different situation, but it's also part of a series of very storyline driven games and the only previous installment of Assassin's Creed that had appeared on Nintendo consoles was a Nintendo DS spin-off.....gamers like myself who've been playing that series on another format just bought it for the other format instead (it launched on PS3 a month before Wii U was released, I'd almost completed it by the time Wii U was launched). Need For Speed Most Wanted U came months after the Xbox 360/PS3 versions and by then, those versions were selling for less than half price whilst EA wanted full whack for the Wii U port. Then there's Rayman Legends which had quite a lot of publicity and hype as an initial Wii U exclusive but then Ubisoft decided to not only needlessly delay it (alienating a lot of fans) but also give Wii U owners the Rayman Challanges App for free (undermining the full game, I saw a lot of posts on Miiverse from people who said they were happy just playing the app and not buying the full game) and finally launched Rayman Legends right after Saints Row 4 and just before Grand Theft Auto 5 pretty much dooming it to fail.
I could go on, ,but other people have also made comments. The fact is, whilst Nintendo haven't been perfect, third parties can't just expect their games to fly off the shelves on Wii U with little to no effort...on Playstation/Xbox they don't have much if any competition for the most part but on Wii U there's a load of superior first party releases to choose from like Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Pikmin 3, Mario Kart 8 etc. and people can and will flock to these games if third parties shaft Nintendo formats with gimped/late releases.
Watch Dogs will fail, not just because it's a third party game but also because it's months after the iniitial hype has died down (it's not selling like gangbusters on PS4 anymore either), reviews for it weren't that great anyway, other versions can be picked up quite cheaply now and it's a gimped version with no DLC at that...plus Ubisoft are pretty much putting it up against a load of Nintendo exclusives like Bayonetta 2, Sonic Boom and Super Smash Bros U as well as games that are already out and will likely sell more at Xmas again like Mario Kart 8 as well.
As a side note, so called 'hardcore' games don't always sell well on other platforms either. You say you're interested in how Bayonetta 2 will do when it's released in the West? Take a look at other Platinum Games releases such as Anarchy Reigns (sequel to Madworld) released on PS3/Xbox 360....only shifted 0.32 million unts across both platforms combined globally. And Vanquish wasn't a huge seller either (despite being a brilliant game) so if Bayonetta 2 outsells either of those then it's been a relative success for them.
Growing up in Chicago, I had high hopes for this game. I even convinced myself that Ubi was going to make the most out of the gamepad features. Silly me.
will wait till its in the garbagebin for like 10 euro max, same as all youre other games on the wiiu
@Sadodi I was writing a reaction, but @ToxieDogg said everything I was typing down already.
PS: Ubisoft, you made such great games for the Wii U, and I supported them mostly, still own and love Zombi U, Rayman Legends, Splinter Cell Blacklist (but why on earth did you NOT fix the online?), and Assassin's Creed 4. I would have loved Rayman to be playable in Smash Bros, but a trophee is nice too, at least he got a mention, which he more than deserves. But after all the big company BS business you pulled already, I'll wait for Watch Dogs to go dirt cheap, I'm sorry.
BG&E 2, Redsteel 3, a second Zombi U game, Valiant Hearts, and Rainbow Six Siege, all for Wii U, that's what I'd want from them. Physically of course, and not stripped of features, special editions, months late lazy ports without additional content when other versions already have it available,... So don't go blaming the customers. It's not me who failed you, it really is the other way around.
My hype for this game has gone from day one 100% to bargain bin. UBISoft sure know how to DoA their games.
The game turned out not to live up to the hype. It's not like anybody expected Ubisoft to put much effort into this port, anyway.
@Shambo Thanks. I'm absolutely fed up of the third party 'white knights' who come on here blaming Nintendo gamers for third party games not selling well on Nintendo consoles.
Nintendo haven't gotten everything right, the Wii U launch period was a big let down with poor advertising and the initial momentum slowing down to a crawl by the start of 2013, but they shouldn't be shouldering all the blame for the mistakes of other companies as well.
As far as Bayonetta 2 goes (I can't wait for it personally, got it preordered ) it annoys the heck out of me that the same people who probably didn't bother to support Platinum's other games (like Anarchy Reigns, Vanquish) are pointing the finger at Bayonetta 2's launch figures in Japan and using it as an excuse to blame Wii U owners. Hypocritical in the extreme.
Well, looks like I won't buy until its 15 bucks. Thats on you Ubisoft. But they'll blame the Ninty base for not wanting mature 3rd party games. Fools.
I've been a Nintendo fan since the SNES, and I'll be honest, I don't buy much third party titles anyway. When they pull stunts like this it doesn't make them anymore inticing either, though I did enjoy Rayman Legends. I know in the big picture if no third party games sell its bad for Nintendo, but honestly I'm happy with most of their first party offerings that seem to always have better quality to them anyway
Months after the initial release and with all the hype behind, this went from a must buy to a may rent title. I appreciate that Ubisoft is, at least, giving some bones to the Wii U owners but they are not helping the sales releasing delayed or incomplete games.
@Boxmonkey I agree with you entirely. Though there maybe spikes in the boost of hardware with games such as Super Smash Bros, I think Zelda will be the last real game for the Wii U. I can see Nintendo gearing up to start looking into their next home console sooner rather than later. You can't keep supporting a loss making system.
Well I'm glad I got this on my PS4 instead now but it's a shame for those grabbing it on Wii U as it looks like good DLC...
@FragRed While I agree 100% with you, don't forget this is Nintendo we're talking about so what you described will probably not happen!
If ever there was a confusing company, it's Nintendo!
@FragRed The normal life span of a Nintendo home console (asides from the old NES) before a new one is released is only about 5 years anyway. I expect Zelda U to come out next Xmas and if not, the middle of the following year. If Nintendo officially announced a new console was in the works after that, then it wouldn't be just that they were dumping the Wii U because it was making a loss, it'd be pretty normal for them.
In fact, I'd expect a new console announcement from Nintendo after Zelda U is released whether the Wii U is a big seller next year or not.
I'll wait for confirmation but this is bad news. The sad part is I've become well conditioned for this kind of thing. I was shouting from the rooftops about this game a year ago, telling my ps3 loving mates that finally there was an adult game that would show the world what the Wii u could do- it was almost designed for Wii u with the high tech hacking interface and environmental interaction at the touch of a map/button. It is really sad that Ubisoft canned this game before it got chance to prove itself a contender on Wii u. It will come out ,sure, but regardless of how it runs the opportunity has been missed to pair an interesting concept with the hardware best suited to an original and interesting gameplay experience. We, the gaming community, have been denied the chance to say , as consumers, that this is the direction games should go and choose the product most deserving of reward. All because someone is scared to risk boardroom wrath by not agreeing with the finance department on the investment/profits opportunity of development of 'game1919377' on 'console 29485838' without a thought of how well it would actually work for the user. It's the old business vs art argument and Ubisoft just lost the war, rayman was the last thing I truly respected from them and they still ballsed that up. Thankfully the e shop is buzzing with quality right now so it's not the end of the world!!
It's amazing really how Ubisoft shoots themselves in the foot. First they make me feel like I'm getting a cheap port by releasing this game late. Doesn't help that all the hype is dead by the time it does come out. Second, by telling us there's no DLC content coming makes me feel like a 2nd class citizen. I was excited about he game originally but have since then lost all interest. So they shoot themselves in the foot by taking these actions which help lead to poor sales and then tell us they don't want to bother with our platform. Companies should help push systems out the door. I honestly am starting to feel that some companies are on a mission to destroy the Wii U. I know that's not true but damn they just keep putting their foot in their mouth.
@FragRed hmm, as a WiiU owner since launch, I would have a problem if they ditched it for a new system in 2016, I have to agree, Zelda WiiU will most likely be it's swan song, but I'm ok with that.
Anyway, screw Ubisoft.
@ToxieDogg You have a valid point and one that I forgot about. Nintendo likes to show off it's next console a couple of years before official release. Hopefully Nintendo can really wow the crowd over next time.
With Ubisoft admitting they won't support the as of yet unreleased game, why should I?
Not interested in playing a bad port that will cost more than the game currently costs on other platforms and as an icing on the cake no DLC.
Watch Dogs will sell really really bad on Wii U and the only party to blame in this debacle is UBIsoft.
And... now I don't want to buy the game, deleting it from my list of Wii U games to get... I was going to get it, I was going to show people who love Nintendo do want to buy and play games like these, but you blew it. You see Ubisoft... If you don't care, I don't care. Stop giving us crappy ports of the games, and no DLCs.
It feels like you give a large group of people that you like hot meals, but give the small group of people that you don't like cold meals.
@whodatninja I would totally agree with you there! If it wasn't for Mario Kart! That's a game that had all the hype spot on for the experience. If it was slightly ott then it's only marginally and doesn't detract from how awesome a game it still is. SSB is also a game I don't see disappointing... that of course is still yet to be seen but I can't imagine it will fail to live up to the hype. it seems only Nintendo can produce worthwhile games this year and I don't mean to sound fanboy-ish

@LavaTwilight Super Smash Bros will be a big seller on the 3DS I have no doubt, but my concern is how much of that hype will remain for the Wii U release outside of the core Nintendo Wii U fans?
@MadAdam81 EA only have themselves to blame. I'm not saying this to absolve responsibility, considering I bought it brand new, but, when they couldn't even get stock out to the majority of retailers - physical or online - and many of those weren't even aware it had launched - or that it was still due to launch in the first place; you can't really blame that on Nintendo or "the gamers". It's the best console version of a good game, yes, and it's criminal that it didn't sell more copies, but you can't sell full price copies of a six month old game (that was -already- sold for half-price on most formats) at the best of times, let alone when you don't even bother to make consumers or suppliers aware it exists.
@ToxieDogg Bayonetta 2 first print edition is preordered, had the game itself preordered since it was first announced, and upgraded with every new announcement made can't wait for it! Supported Platinum since way before they became Platinum, and only Anarchy Reigns was somewhat disappointing, I'd rather have seen a Madworld sequel.
Well, for UbiSoft, it would probably take a year and a half extra to just set all the on disc DLC content, already in the games code to unlocked xD
Oh well, stupid publishers are stupid.
If they had released it when all the other versions had come out I probably would've picked it up. I was really excited for it and was happy that WiiU was getting a good third party game since they're so few and far between. But with all the big exclusive titles all coming out from now through the end of the year they're are way too many good games to spend my money on that Watch Dogs doesn't even make the top 10 anymore. But sometimes I feel like they plan it that way so third partys complain about how bad their games sell on WiiU.
I would have thought, given the long delay, all the DLC would be included on the disk. I've had this game on pre-order for ages, but now I'm thinking I should just pass and put my money into another game.
@VrginX He won't care because he still got your money. get a used copy instead.
Seriously, I'm all for supporting developers, but what do they expect when they release poorly optimized games that are missing content. Then again Ubi has been doing this to PC gamers for years. I didn't even finish the PC version of watch dogs due to its poor optimization.
With how long wii U owners have been waiting it would have been decent of Ubisoft to actually include it on the disc as a thanks for being patient. F**k Ubisoft I'll spend my money elsewhere. I'm actually done wih third parties ad there weak excuses and lazyiness....
The good news about this is that it will drop to $20 in a few months and probably go down to $15 in less than a year.
@PinkSpider I was just about to say exactly that. They made Wii U owners wait longer so...why not just put it on the disc? Not that I'm interested in this game.
6 months late and with no dlc? You've hit the pointless release jackpot with this one Ubisoft!
Watch Dogs isn't even that good of a game to begin with, but maybe I'll pick it up when it's $5 or $10.
But...yet, some of ya'll on this website still want to support the game & buy the game. If you're so desperate to play it & I'm pretty sure you have others systems. Go buy on the other system or if not don't play this trashy looking game. There are better games out there then this. BE SMART, DON'T SUPPORT THIS....CAUSE IF NOT COMPANIES ARE GOING TO GET AWAY WITH ANYTHING!!
It's like... they want it to fail on the Wii U. This is really stupid
To all those people bashing Ubisoft, maybe you should stop and think for a second...
I doubt they want to release WatchDogs at all on Wii U any more as it'll no doubt be a loss for them like all other releases on Wii U have been so far. I imagine they are simply releasing it to keep their word and allow those of you that wanted the game on Wii U to get it.
I notice Ubisoft have a very bad reputation among the Nintendo faithful but really they make great games and actually do take risks with games like Child of Light and Rayman etc.
I for one am glad they exist and they are actually my favourite 3rd party right now. Bashing them simply as Nintendo have done a bad job with Wii U is not fair and maybe you should direct some blame to Nintendo for a change? Then again, to me it feels like some people will defend Nintendo regardless of whether they are in the right or wrong and that's ridiculous!
This is just another game on my do not ever buy list.
I can see both sides of the coin here: yes Wii U had 3rd party support at launch, but it was still hand-me-down sequels that had already been out. I love Ubisoft games but they force us away. This is an unsurprising outrage, and the final nail in the coffin for me. Even bough I have every game they've made for Wii U, I'm done.
I waited until now, but I can't accept anymore, I'll buy on pc;
@readyletsgo Nintendo won't release a new system straight after Zelda, but they will announce one. They typically announce new hardware one to two years before release (usually the latter). Of course I would expect Nintendo to support the Wii U with new games to the end, but just nothing big.
Not that anyone should be surprised, but is there even a point to this version, any more? I mean, the delay is one thing - make it the best it can be, or whatever. Making it without any interest in giving the players somewhat equal terms to the other platforms, well, that's just asking everyone to ignore its release.
@Shambo Imagine Beyond Good and Evil 2 as a Wii U exclusive. That would kick ass and bring a lot of good will! (And probably blow everyone's minds )
after this long of a delay the DLC should be already part of the game,
If Coca Cola started selling pop in a new country would they only send the country old out of date product and let rumors leak claiming they would no longer send additional product to the country. Make what ever claims you want about 3rd parties and Nintendo but Ubi only gave 3 legitimate efforts in ZombiU, Rayman, and Child of Light and we know ZombiU and Rayman sold well despite some flaws & PR issues.
Not surprised. It's not even hard. Integrate the eShop into the freaking game and that's it.
Is Watch Dogs worth buying on Wii U? Probably not. It is being released much later than on other platforms, has no marketing behind it, has more limitations than any other version of the game, and received mediocre reviews. The only thing it has going for it on Wii U is a lack of competing software... oh wait, Smash Bros. Well, there you go.
Though its upsetting its also not surprising news…ZombiU and Rayman Legends are both great games that im proud to own but Ubisoft has finally done it…they blame Nintendo fans for not buying shotty ports with missing features and DLC…basically not the whole Experience…basically an incomplete game…i guess when this INCOMPLETE version of watchdogs bombs it'll be our fault again huh? No thank you I have games like Bayonetta 2 that deserve my time and money #OPERATIONPLATINUM
Unless Ubisoft now makes a commitment to release the DLC I won't be buying this game. I already got shafted by WB with Arkham Origins. I won't let that happen again.
I hope they mean there is no dlc because it's already in there. It would be real suspicious if they delay a game months after other platforms received it just to be compatible with the GamePad. Even more suspicious during the time when there is a lot of holiday competition.
Whaaaaaa, no WAY!
This is unpredictable information /sarcasm -_-
Ubisoft Employee: "Guys! Our WiiU titles are not selling as well as the other consoles!!!"
Ubisoft Executive: "Did you make sure its inferior to the other versions?
Ubisoft Employee: "Yes sir!"
Ubisoft Executive: "Did you make them wait longer than the other versions?"
Ubisoft Employee: "Of course!"
Ubisoft Executive: "And did you make sure not to compensate with maybe a free add on?"
Ubisoft Employee: "No sir! In fact we decided not to give them ANY DLC whatsoever!"
Ubisoft Executive: "... Then im not sure why its not sellling. Thats it, no more mature WiiU titles and scale down support further!"
It's a shame really. Ubisoft makes great games and I'd love to support them. The problem is they keep on bashing the Wii U and releasing negative news. Telling me they won't support a game before it's even released doesn't help. They then turn around and blame us for their games not selling.
Yeah...I'm really close to just canceling my Pre-order.
I honestly wonder sometimes if there are back-room deals going on to ensure Sony and Microsoft get the title first. The handling of this game for the Wii has gone so badly I honestly have to wonder.
And yet again they are pi$$ing Nintendo fans off. So...no Rayman in Smash 5, then?
@juanduran1 That's pretty much it.
Bayonetta 2 is coming out with the original included for free and I'm supposed to spend my money on Ubisoft's unsupported Watch Dogs game????
I've bought the last two Rayman games. They were awesome. I have also purchased a couple of the AC games in the past. However, when they delay a game that has already released on every other platform, I lose interest very quickly because I start thinking about what's wrong with the game.
@Sadodi I knew that. It's the first major issue for the Wii U.
What I meant is, I'm disappointed in Ubisoft as a whole: they went from a great company that produced amazing game to a meh company releasing half-baked crap. I personally hated their last games, including Child of Light, Assassin's Creed and Rayman Origins, which I all owned on Wii U. They promise a lot, but never deliver, that's what I meant.
I can understand them not going to the effort of putting the DLC on the Eshop as hardly anyone will buy it but considering it will likely be releasing at full price it would surely help its inevitable poor sales if they included it all from day 1.Without sounding immature,no real Nintendo fan should support this game. They have already said this will be the last 'mature' title they release on Wii U anyway and have just stabbed Nintendo fans in the back again so screw them!
@Sadodi would have freakin' helped if EA actually gave a damn and put the Mass Effect Trilogy out for WiiU instead. Would have especially helped if Activision put out Call of Duty Black Ops 2 DLC instead of releasing the free Day 1 DLC map pack 2 years later. It would have probably also helped if Ubisoft also put Farcry 3 on the System and if 2K games and Square put Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider on the system.
Sadly none of that happened and we got one heck of a game drought for the WiiU in 2013 and bad press and looks like we got a really bad version of Watch_Dogs.
@Kosmo I was determined to support this game at first, but I sure won't now
For all their faults Nintendo truly are the only developer left with any morals.
Just in case anybody needs more reason not to buy this game from Ubi - this releases on Wii U about 10 days after the 2 - not 1 but 2 - Assassins Creed games Unity and Rogue release on both last gen and current gen systems. So anybody who did buy AC3 and AC4 can not continue the story on their Wii U as AC5a or AC5b.
And Ubi has that slap in the face tag-line:
"Make History on ANY Console"
Well any console that isn't Wii U. Oh, Wii U is listed on the bottom of the page though just in case the headline isn't insulting enough.
http://assassinscreed.ubi.com/en-US/home/index.aspx?utm_campaign=wk_24Jul2014_acu_SDCC&utm_medium=search&utm_source=google&utm_content=other&utm_term=
So don't buy W_D on Wii U, b/c I guarantee there will be a W_D 2, but it will not be on Wii U.
I'm still going to get it, can't get it at launch though because of the New 3DS XL & Sonic Boom.
Another day, another Western third party spits in the faces of Nintendo gamers. Nothing new here.
Can't say I'm terribly disappointed, though. I wasn't going to buy this anyway. This trash doesn't belong on a shelf next to Wind Waker HD or Smash Bros.
This does not surprise me. In fact, I would be surprised if they did something else. Ubisoft has shown they consistently don't know how to market to the Wii U/Nintendo crowd or create a product that doesn't just sell on hype.
Ubisoft entire handling of the game on Wii U...disturbingly unprofessional, and that's not being hyperbolic either. It's a damn shame they can't even at least go out on Wii U with some damn dignity. Completely spitting on the face of millions of potential customers. Can't even be bothered to show ONE screenshot or give ONE interview. This really makes them look bad as an entire organization. I'm canceling my pre order. Might get it when $20
What's with Ubisoft always excluding DLC? What benefits would this bring?
@juanduran1 nice =)
They lost my money when they delayed it don't really care if they release it for Wii U at all honestly there are too many good games coming out to care about Watch Dogs .
Who ever buys this i'm just going to say it you're an idiot. They made you wait 6 months for a unique features. And what you guys get for it a map on the gamepad and off tv play and no DLC.Next week they will say no multplayer and the Wiiu version doesn't even have it.I hate to be right, but i am they didn't care for this port this game is like Sniper elite V2 for the Wiiu all over again.Shovel ware at it's finest.
I just couldn't care less about Watch Dogs at this point. I just really hope people end up supporting games like Bayonetta 2 in order to prove Ubisoft wrong. That will be a day one purchase for me along with Hyrule Warriors.
@Grumblevolcano "I could slightly understand no DLC if this was 2012/early 2013 because Nintendo pretty much had no interest in the concept of DLC."
What the hell are you talking about? What does this have to do with Nintendo if this was 2012/early 2013, Nintendo isn't keeping third parties from releasing DLC. You're also wrong again, Fire Emblem: Awakening was Nintendo's first DLC game and that was released in 2012.
I just stopped caring. I look forward to Hyrule Warriors tomorrow and Bayonetta 1&2 next month. I only had a Wii until about a year 1/2 ago then bought a PS3 for the JRPGs (NiNo Kuni, Tales of Xillia, Drakengaurd, ect...) then found heard about Bayo from the reveal. Went and picked up a copy played it fell in love and I want to continue to support Platinum Games.
@Sadodi Seriously? Of the titles you mentioned, I purchased ALL of them, and I can say honestly, that they were ALL lazy ports. How do you expect customers to part with their hard earned money on games that are just put through a PC running the Wii U OS, and porting, and then touching up a few things after that? If 3rd party devs actually showed that they put real effort into producing the BEST POSSIBLE version on the Wii U, more people would be inclined to purchase that title. Assassins Creed 4 sold more on Wii U that on Xbox1, but, you don`t see Ubisofy saying Xbox1 players do not buy mature games do you?
Ubisoft have lied so many times. the real reason for the massive delay in Watch Dogs.... if they had released at the same time as the other platforms, they would have been going up gainst MK8, which they did not want to do. Now, they have chosen a date that is going to put them in between Bayonetta 2 and Smash Bros. When it does not sell, they can turn around AGAIN, and say Wii U owners do not buy or play mature games. They are not stupid, but they are bare faced liars.
You know what I really think is a major problem across major western developers? Stuck up developers who only want to support the latest and greatest tech. I believe the developers distaste for the Wii U is actually impacting the overall business decisions of the organization they work for. Time and time again I've seen tweets by developers putting down the Wii U. Just one problem among many.
@FragRed Point of fact. Wii U is the ONLY console that is actually making a profit. Nintendo now makes a small profit on every console sold. Both Microsoft and Sony will have to wait around 2-3 years before seeing a return on their respective consoles.
@Mega719 Did you actually thought the port would'ave gotten DLC? Come on man, this game wasn't going to get it,cause they don't care just wait until tomorrow and they announce multiplayer and i know that's going to happen but it's not going to have it have fun with the gimped port friendo! HA!.But i still can't believe you defended this port saying many things praising the port last time on the article about Watch dogs,so blindly defending them it was pretty funny and sad.
Just perfect.
I'll give you €5 Ubisoft.
@Nintenjoe64 um, Wii U is current gen, in case you didn't know
Also Deus Ex on Wii U was fantastic, and the superior version I believe, if developers would give more than 0 craps then they would see it's a great platform
@Sadodi "Third-party companies are also disappointed that Wii U owners don't buy their games to begin with. People had their chance at launch when they got Mass Effect 3, Assassin's Creed 3, Batman: Arkham City, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Darksiders II and more to show off that they really care about third-party games, but in reality, they don't. That's how business works, if most people aren't going to buy a product, then the company won't produce even for the minority that wants that product. Don't blame this on the companies.
Also, this was really inevitable, seeing as how Nintendo fans didn't receive any third-party love during the Wii era. They did now and they blew it."
For you to say that, and by looking at your profile pic I'll just assume you're a Sony fan. But let's look at the list shall we:
Mass Effect 3: EA purposely sabotage the Wii U version by releasing a trilogy pack on other consoles. AND ME3 was already almost year old before the Wii U version was released.
Assassin's Creed 3: Wii U version came out 2 weeks after other versions, didn't get Special Editions(Figurines, steelbook cases, etc.) like the other versions did.
Batman Arkham City: DID came out a year before the Wii U version(Do you idiots really expect a game to sell after its already been available on other consoles for a whole year?)
Tekken & Darksiders II: Already been out on other consoles and didn't get any Special Editions like the other version
Batman AO: Wii U version didn't get multiplayer mode or any Special Editions like the other versions
I can go on forever, but who shafted who first? Don't pretend Third parties are the victims and didn't give Wii U owners the cold shoulder first. Nice try, Sony fanboy.
I don't know about you guys but I've had many systems in the past and the Wii U is by far one of my favorites. In fact I've grown to accustomed to the gamepad I'd have a difficult time playing without it. I'm glad I gave this system a chance and I'm looking forward to all the great games yet to come. It's just a shame to see such a great console struggle. It deserves better.
@Akira_1975 I have been saying for the longest time that I truly do believe that MS (and possibly Sony) developed a Nintendo NON Parity agreement with all other major publishers. There was a point in time when Wii U would be expected to have "definitive" versions of games, I.e. same (basic) visuals, same content, BUT with unique gameplay elements only possible with gamepad.
MS was already having issues with parity on PS4 games (there is an unofficial ps4 parity clause that states developers can't make games that look significantly better on PS4). So what was MS to do? Tell publishers that Wii U versions of games can't have all of the content/features. Its basically sabotage. I can't think of any other reason that Wii U versions all of a sudden CONSTANTLY were missing features and content, for no real reason.
I really hope all of these publishers fall flat on their faces and realize how shortsighted it was to screw an entire user base over like they've been doing.
Maybe it's time for a New Wii U. You know faster browsing and faster downloads.
Well that's just made my mind up, I wont be buying this at all now
Hey look at that, it would appear Ubisoft REALLY doesn't want their game to sell well now.. I guess that's it then, we won't be seeing the three "complete Wii U titles" that they're holding from us..
What I'd love: better framerate than PS360, gamepad based mini games plus an interactive map while also supporting off screen play, and a couple exclusive missions or an exclusive area (maybe like 30 minutes total of exclusive activity), and all previously released DLC.
What I'd accept for full price: framerate similar to PS360, a static map on the gamepad, all the DLC (at least single player) rolled up.
People should not be surprised at this. I've been saying it all along, ubisoft WANTS this game to fail on the Wii U so they have a reason to never support Nintendo again. it's how they roll.
All I gotta add is that this game is really not that fun after a few hours.. Played it on PC for a while and got bored, haven't touched it since. And that's been about since launch week.
@ikki5 You got that right! They're just lazy.. I bet they don't want to take time to program for the gamepad..
Shouldn't this already have come out, flopped and been forgotten by now?
Why even bother, Ubisoft?
@rjejr If we didnt know already, they just keep trying harder and harder to gimp their Wii U titles. I guess they must not have been happy when the Wii U version of Rayman Legends pretty much outsold every other platform (or came close) despite having a smaller install base and Ubisoft messing around with release dates.
I own a ton of wii U games both including eshop and non eshop content. both include dlc and i've gone as far as paying 60 for the dlc for just one game. All because the game is good, and because I support WII U. some businesses forget that by pulling stunts like this it only makes them look bad.
the majority of people that don't buy this game when it does come out, will be those pissed off at UBISOFT. I too have a PS3, but NEVER will I buy for it. all because I was waiting for it for the wii U. now if you look at DARKSIDERS 2, that was released eventually for wii U with all DLC included. no big. wii U wasn't out at the time. then the Batman arkham game was released for Wii U as well. with DLC separate. it shows that it is possible to do. now when they start pulling junk like this. (we will no longer be having the season pass for wii U, and NINTENDO has to refund 19.95 to all of it's user base while allowing us to keep said DLC. we see that NINTENDO cares for us, but the ones that gave us the shaft would be the third party. they are trying to pull this crap again with Lego Batman 3. NO DLC FOR WII U. or at least no season pass. What gives. I am still getting it no matter what. and ONLY ON WII U. However i'm really getting annoyed at things like this. I will NOT get a PS4 or an XBOX ONE. their games to me just aren't as fun not to mention STABLE. and I'm NEVER getting a UBISOFT game again. PERIOD. their content is officially banned in my book.
Another nail in the coffin for this game. I'll buy it when it's like £5.00 two months after release.
A lot if hostility in this thread, lol.
Just cancel it already.
Considering how they're treating the game, they may as well launch it at $30. That's probably more than enough to pay for what little effort they put into this version.
Wow, so they made Nintendo fans wait a lot longer for a Wii U version of the game, that will look like the last gen Xbox 360/PS3 version, and your not even gonna give them the dlc or anything extra?!?! This is why Nintendo's home consoles have almost zero third party support, and this is why people want a X1/ PS4, cause Wii U's third party is PATHETIC. Nintendo, you need to get off your high horse and fix this NOW! (and to the people complaining and fighting, it's actually Nintendo's fault, they need to fix third party relations big time, it's not the third party or Nintendo gamers fault )
Soooo let me get this straight.
1. They release the game several months after initial release
2. DLC confirmed to never ever be available for Wii U.
3. They want full price for a stripped down version of the game.
And yet every time Ubisoft (or any 3rd party for that matter) pull this stunt, they wonder why the Wii U version sells the worst. Are they really that stupid or are these 3rd parties trying to sabotage Nintendo into going the route of Atari & Sega?
@Bizzyb
I would love for there to be some kind of antitrust/competetive challenge against these "parity clauses." If they're not illegal, they should be.
It's monkey business like this that has made me promise never to buy a Microsoft console-related product, ever (unlike Microsoft, I doubt Sony has such a clause and I believe that Sony generally means well). There's not only this, but Microsoft's attempt to convince everyone that streaming/digital only was the way to go with video games and their restrictive DRM system. While they change their policy on XBone, I will never forget that they tried to institute that regime.
I'm happy the PS4 is doing well and the Wii U is improving (and I think it will eventually do well).
I'm also glad that the XBone is failing in Japan and want to see it crash and burn...miserably.
@AndyWARbear It's still up there, so until otherwise, it's confirmed.
Ubisoft just admit your plan! Your releasing this game on the rumoured Smash Bros. Wii U release day to say that mature games don't sell well on Wii U!
@juanduran1 brilliant!!!
Why bother releasing on wii u then?
@Marioman64 yeah Wii U is current gen but i'm speculating that Watch Dogs Wii U will look more like the PS360 versions.
@sdcazares1980 edited my comment, thanks for the heads up.
@whodatninja
Did it really though? Because I'm looking at the numbers of other previous MK games andMK8 doesnt stack up well....even with the free game giveaway. DK: Tropical Freeze hasnt even sold a million either yet.
Sorry but ppl need to realize that the Wii U is a dead platform outside of 1st party games and no publisher is going to bend over backwards for an install base that doesnt buy games.
i'll get it, because it will be awesome. But i stopped waiting for Mass Effect 3 eShop dowlnload and picked up a disc version at gamestop today.
Really easoft, releasing this poopoo crappy port with no dlc 3 days before pokemon omega ruby and alpha sapphire for the 3ds on 11/21/14?
This just proves that easoft wants this game to fail HARD...
FUDGE YOU ubisoft, just fudge you...
@AndyWARbear No problem.
Third party games don't sell on Nintendo....third parties don't get behind Nintendo consoles....Nintendo fans get upset and don't buy third party games....third parties don't release any games....
The circle of life continues
@Ryu_Niiyama Funny enough, they just released yet another patch to try and fix the performance. And wouldn't you know it, after 4 months, they finally got it running somewhat acceptably.
This is a perfect example of how third parties are these days in regards to Nintendo.. Make a port of a game (that comes out AFTER the original launch on other consoles... Like Mass Effect 3... Or Sniper Elite V2... Deus Ex did it right, but that's a rare exception.), and when it's sales suck because we've either played it before already or they cut out content for NO REASON they complain and say "WE WILL NEVER TOUCH U AGAIN!!", and then we all here on Nintendo Life bash them incessantly for being such derps.
RULES OF NATURE!
Couldnt care less about dlc usually. I gave up on wii u version when the delay was announced. I got it for ps4 instead.
In other related news Wii U users telling Ubisoft they will mis out on having any customers for their 'new' Watch Dogs game....
@Boxmonkey devild third and a racing game so far.
@DarkJamD I honestly think Ubisoft won't do that, and then complain about how we don't buy their terrible, DLC-less, half-complete ports for the Wii U.
Third Party Support clearly matters, you've all dedicated 175+ slightly hostile/unfair comments to Ubisoft.
Ahh the sabotage continues from Ubisoft. Queue story complaining about low sales and teen and mature games (or third party in general) don't sell on Nintendo consoles in 3...2..1...
But the DLC must be included because the game is continuing created, the DLC is only when a game is in stores and there were not time to included to the disk that content.
And I was really on the edge too. Looks like I've fallen off. Maybe I'll buy in a year or so.
Good I needed to save $60! Thanks Ubisoft!
Like I care... just kidding, too bad for those that wanted it.
Nintendo's next console will probably be the same thing with their ''unique hardware'' ( weird controller + underpowered console)
I guess will get anyway , but tweet was removed just because to not ruin even more sale of game on U then already is
also found out we are not getting dedsec or vigilante edition on Wii U now either
Used bargain bin at gamestop around January here I come. By then it should be under 20 bucks. I'd still feel kind of ripped off though.
I was so going to buy this game day one but now that they have torn the DLC out of the deal I'm not going to buy this game at all.
@Kogorn733 You and me both. The Xbox One reveal made me sell my Xbox 360 and swear off any future Microsuck products.
@Punished_Boss Did you even read the articles about this port? Or did you just blindly commented on this not knowing everything,oh wait you did.I'll just tell you they made Wiiu owners wait 6 months for this port, cause they wanted to use the gamepad at it's fullest and make unique features that no other version has.Want to know them friendo? Well here they are off tv play and a map on the game pad! Wow!!Looks they used the 6 months they had well didn't they? And now no DLC great they made Wiiu owners wait a long time for a map on the gamepad and has to pay 60 dollars, for a terrible terrible game. And they don't have the decency to release DLC? They deserve all the hate from everyone here.So next time think or read about something and then comment.
If they really wanted to make this version the "best it can be" the least they could do is leave all content intact. They didn't say anything about online modes so it's still safe to assume it's still there. I don't care much for online but this is abig selling point for gamers
@midnafanboy the game was never called terrible it was very underwhelming for the huge hype surrounding it but was not bad. It's a port what do you expect? We Wii U owners just want it to be well done we don't care for new features (all games should have off tv though) i don't care what everyone else says AC4 was phenomenal on Wii U so this should be too. I played enough repetitive videogames and heard enough empty shell characters to appreciate this game. If it's great to play then it's for me
@Mega719 Well then be happy with those features that took 6 months to do alright friend.
@SavoirFaire
Haha, please tell me you'll be using that money on Bayonetta 2 instead!
@midnafanboy thanks and i hope you enjoyed the "next gen" version i assume you rushed into getting figuring out it's really a underwhelming experience like every other 3rd party game on PS4 and X1. Might i bring Titanfall and Destiny? Wii U has the best games and could make awesome ports if 3rd parties would just put in the effort like Ubisoft has done until Child of Light
@Mega719 Why are you being so defensive? I didn't said anything about the Wiiu genius,i didn't say the Wiiu had no games.I didn't even bring next gen in this you did,for no reason. I said in my comments i'm sick and tired of seeing Ubisoft treating Wiiu owners like crap, with this game. And people are still going blindly buy this port.Don't know why you bought next gen in this conversation.
Hey Yves, I'll give yah $20 for it.
@midnafanboy Sure. They deserve hate for supporting Wii U owners with titles, which are late, gimped and/or dlcless, definitely makes at least %50 sense.
"The fact is, whilst Nintendo haven't been perfect, third parties can't just expect their games to fly off the shelves on Wii U with little to no effort...on Playstation/Xbox they don't have much if any competition for the most part but on Wii U there's a load of superior first party releases to choose from like Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Pikmin 3, Mario Kart 8 etc. and people can and will flock to these games if third parties shaft Nintendo formats with gimped/late releases."
That's the point, the big third party companies like EA and Ubisoft just want to make money with preferably little effort. They already did so in some cases (not all of them) on the Wii. While this may work on other platforms, it sure doesn't on Nintendo consoles since its fans are used to a higher level of quality from the first party games.
I really don't get why the big publishers just do boring ports of existing titles instead of using the Wii U's creative potential and make more games like Zombie U, Rayman (WTF Ubisoft?!) or - to pick an example from the Wii era - Red Steel.
I have WD on PC and while it's not a GTA-killer (actually it's a completely different type of game for me), it's still a good game though the hype was maybe a little too much.
I don't really care about any DLC since I haven't even finished the main story on PC, besides I'm no friend of DLCs in general (with rare exceptions worthy of their price like the Addons for GTA V).
I maybe even would buy WD for a second time on Wii U for a small price, though I'm not happy at all with Ubisofts decisions and the constant whining about their AAA games not selling properly. Well then dedicate yourself more to this console and make better games! Only then you're gonna make more sales. Simpel as that.
But the good thing is: Nintendo already has so many great titles released or coming for Wii U, that the performance of third party developers doesn't really matter. Big N have plenty of financial reserves, so they can easily rely on their own games and continue to offer a great platform for indies, especially for games based on Unity.
the game isn't fantastic but it is good and will be a treat to have for WiiU users who haven't played it. the DLC isn't that special so this is more a slap in the face if you want to take it that way.
but really people, you have to consider that Ubisoft dumped more (as a 3rd party) support on WiiU than any other company and themselves are probably barely seeing profit back in that area. Since they already committed to it early on I would be glad they haven't outright dropped WD all together, it would make total sense. No matter how well any other WiiU games are selling theres no way to argue that the WiiU isn't being outsold by the other 2 by big leaps. Nintendo went on a creative design limb with the WiiU making it a lot harder to port the other 'next gen' games.
heres their situation: you have 3 platforms, 2 with nearly identical specs, comparable to a PC and one much lower with a tablet controller and which is demonstrably being outsold by a massive margin.
Well they stood by Nintendo anyway at and after launch but it still doesn't look good. why should they stick around? so Smash Brothers and Mario games of all stripes are selling like hotcakes to it's limited install base... so what? that means nothing at all for sales of 3rd party games, and today it no longer is just about them "not trying hard enough" that's BS.
Watchdogs wasn't my favorite game but it is really good, and not having the DLC is not a crippling blow; being on a Nintendo machine might be though.
Isnt this a crappy game anyways one of the flops with Titanfall and DEstinyt
@Ren. Ok, let me put it to you this way...do you really think that if a publisher releases a game on a Nintendo system months later than all the other versions (long after all the hype has died down) for full price when the other versions can now be picked up cheaply, that they're really trying?
Do you think that if a publisher sets a release date for a game, then pulls the plug on it at nearly the very last minute in order to suddenly port it to rival systems and then sets a new release date for 6 months later right before the biggest game of the last few years (Grand Theft Auto 5) is released, then they're really trying?
Because I sure as heck don't.
I realise that GTA V wasn't released on the Wii U, but I'm guessing like myself that most Wii U owners have either a PS3, Xbox 360 or both.
Also, nobody would argue that PS4 is outselling the Wii U, but at the time of me writing this Wii U is still ahead of Xbox One globally in terms of total sales. After an initial good start when it launched, Xbox One slowed right down. It's recent Japan launch has been a massive flop.
Has anyone pointed out that they make us wait for Rayman so that they can release the game simultaneously with all other console releases and they didn't bother doing that with Watch Dogs?
@FragRed As for SSB I think that hype is still there. A lot of people who aren't Nintendo fans are hyped for it and they're even considering a WiiU for it, similar with what happened to MK8. But they're not bothered with the 3DS release, rather they're after the WiiU version. That's just from what I've seen though and who I've spoken to so the reality may be different.
Who exactly didn't see this coming?
@ToxieDogg
yes I am saying that.. or at least I'm saying that they WERE trying. the 3 systems are so different that it takes considerably different resources to develop the SAME game for WiiU and as a company they have to weigh their options. Ubisoft actually bothered to do that at all. If you've played the other versions you'd see that it's not something they could simply hit a button to make it work on WiiU. Even now I imagine they're kicking themselves for ever committing to releasing it on WiiU. It's just not a system that is conducive to porting the other current big games to and we can only 'blame' Nintendo for that; I don't think that's a bad thing per se, it's just a Nintendo machine for Nintendo games. These massive budget games lately are a huge gamble, though, but Nintendo doesn't care, they went ahead and released a system that basically any 3rd party would have to exclusively design for from the ground up including weird tablet functionality. My guess is that some of these 3rd parties are developing for consoles specifically because they don't want to deal with cheesy touch screen tablets and now they have to incorporate it into 'innovative' new games with an inferior spec just for the priveledge of appearing on a Nintendo machine.
Anyway I get the idea about xbox, you're right, I just think developing a AAA game for both PS4/Xbone is a much safer/cheaper bet overall than both of those + WiiU. Part of having a WiiU is just accepting this. I'm finally about ready to get a WiiU just seeing how stubborn Nintendo has been... that tells me that at least the Nintendo games are likely top notch even if none of the others are (and probably also full retail price until about 2030).
Not surprise by this. I hope they aren't expecting a full $60 for this SUPER LATE release. Ridiculous....
Why...
even...
bother...
DLC doesn't sell on Nintendo platforms anyways.. maybe, just maybe it has to do with the DLC being a RIP OFF?? Look at what Nintendo's DLC offerings are.. real value for the money..
@Smug43 And look what you are - full time professional Nintendo butt-kisser.
Well then, if you think that little of us Ubisoft, then why should I pay full price for this title? Just like Splintercell and AC4, I shall wait until its in the $20 bargain bin.
@Smug43 The third parties decide to release games on other consoles first, than wonder why their games aren't selling on Wii U 6 months to 2 years later, with no upgrades, no dlc. In the beginning, yes, Nintendo was responsible, but 2 years later, the blame is mostly on the third parties now. I'm tired of Nintendo getting blamed for something that isn't entirely their fault. If third parties wanted their games to sell on the Wii U, than 1)they would release their games at the same time, and 2)they would try to match Nintendo's work ethic. The reason Nintendo's IP sells so well is because they put quality first, fun 2nd, and everything else 3rd. Being a fanboy or fangirl is just a bonus. Third parties, put up or shut up, don't get mad at Nintendo's work ethic to deliver 5 Star games, and then blame it on fanboys/fangirls not wanting to buy half-assed quality games.
This'll make for a fun rental. It releases the same day as Far Cry 4, and they expect me to buy this? No... Ubisoft, no...
i feel like if your not going to do a game proper this day in age or port it well, then dont do it at all plan and simple thats just wrong in many aspects to fans in general that waited... dont even bother to make a game that lacks what other consoles offer, its just sad.
To be honest, the biggest no-DLC disappointment for me was kinda LEGO Marvel. Well, second biggest after Watch_Dogs, but I was so excited to play as Winter Soldier and Falcon in LEGO Marvel.
Third-Party support for the Wii U continues to disappoint. Hopefully, though, Smash will save the Wii U like it did the GC.
I just cancelled my (more then a year old) pre-order. Delaying it made me mad. No DLC and asking full price (65€) = no buy for me just yet. I'll be buying it when the price drops to 30€ or less.
And I recently bought it on PS4. The game is not that great.
