Re: Sheepo Is A Cute Creature-Collecting Metroidvania, Out Soon

TNLGUY

@MichaelP Fact #1: The term "metroidvania" was created to refer only to Castlevania games that were nonlinear in order to distinguish them from the level-by-level style progression of the classic games.

Fact #2: Gamers and journalists everywhere now refer to all nonlinear platformers as metroidvanias, with or without RPG elements like those found in Symphony of the Night.

Because of the term's original meaning, I find it a bit silly how it is used now. I prefer calling them "nonlinear platformers". Folks can argue all day about preferences, but it will amount to nothing because of Fact #2. It has been popularized to the point of no return and is futile to fight it.

Yes, greetings from GFAQs.

Re: Nintendo Is Shutting Down Dr. Mario World For Mobile

People blaming digital games when it's clearly a service-based games issue. Y'all know you can buy some of those physically and they will be useless eventually too, right? For Honor? Dead by Daylight? They're not going to get into your Switch and deactivate your digitally-owned Mario Odyssey.

Re: Talking Point: amiibo Have Always Been Physical DLC, Skyward Sword HD Is No Different

@SalvorHardin You clearly didn't like the game to begin with. No, it is not as hard as Dark Souls, and you're the one crafting a narrative by claiming that I'm implying it is. What even is the point of collecting health or healing items if you can whisk yourself away at any moment? I can understand if the game was never difficult FOR YOU. It isn't for me either. My point is that it only trivializes the game altogether, even for the kiddos who may have found some challenge in it. Skyrim, which is also not as difficult as Dark Souls, would only become braindead easy even for children if one could just warp to safety anytime their health is low. Hence the "you cannot fast travel with enemies nearby". If you don't enjoy easy games, keep bragging about being an elitist punk, I'm sure everyone will be your best friend. You clearly had beef with this game to begin with (many do) and are only reinforcing my perspective that you're angry for the sake of being angry. This article indicates that it is QOL, which I don't agree with. But it also indicates that if you don't like it DON'T PLAY IT. That I agree with.

Re: Talking Point: amiibo Have Always Been Physical DLC, Skyward Sword HD Is No Different

The game was designed so that you can only get back to Skyloft using specific points. The amiibo allows you to bypass any risk to your character in attempting to reach one. It's not a "QOL" feature, it's a "lolol easy mode" feature, like when DLC purchases can gain you absurd amounts of EXP or money in other games. The people complaining are clueless and angry for the sake of being angry.

Re: Review: The Longing - Tedious By Design, And Incredibly Successful At It

Beat it. Played sessions between MHR. I found it to be compelling enough. It does not have to take 400 days. Folks sure like to hone in on the idea that it "must" take that long and ridicule the game for such an unusual premise. Dislike it for other reasons if you must!

I love the little shade. He's a gloomy little thing in his isolation, I wanted to find him a happy ending.

Re: Review: Dead Cells (Switch)

Creepy coincidence, I've been reading Lovecraft's works from the beginning for a while now, and I finally read Call of Cthulhu.

Been waiting on this game, I hope I can download it 12am PST!

Re: Review: Hollow Knight (Switch eShop)

@Monkeyofthefunk I am a fan of the genre, but also could not really get into Steamworld. I played a few Shantae games, they're not bad, but Hollow Knight is leagues ahead in my opinion.
