Re: Review: Arcade Archives Star Force (Switch eShop)

@meppi64 All good suggestions on Psikyo shooters. I also agree that Star Force could still be a great suggestion! I think once someone is drawn into the shooter genre they will seek out all the sub genres of it and be curious about all titles. I don't think age of a game would deter them. At least ideally it wouldn't.

The score says the game is average and I'd agree. Graphics and music were average for its time and it wasn't very innovative. But I really enjoy this because its pure, tough, and for score chasing. Sometimes shooters over complicate themselves and its nice to scale down sometimes.

@Jack_Goetz What Shiryu said in addition to Europe. As an American I am looking forward to this as well. I had minor contact with the Sega System as a kid but I've grown to really appreciate it these later years (I'm 40). I also have a huge appetite for video game history that I'll read about systems I've never owned or played such as MSX or ZX Spectrum. I think there is a good audience for this. Plus Bitmap makes quality books!

I was mildly disappointed in the fact that Johnny Arcade offerings don't offer a true no filter option. Now they are missing features from the game (charge punch) and cost more? The future does not look good for Johnny Turbo.

Re: Super Hydorah and Cursed Castilla EX Are Both Headed To Switch Thanks To GameMaker Studio 2

@SLIGEACH_EIRE These are 3rd party releases. A port is more like Captain Toad or Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. It can't be helped if the Switch wasn't around or capable of running these games when they first came out. It can now so thus they get brought over.

It seems you look at any 3rd party game as a port unless its system exclusive. If a game comes out for all 3 systems and PC at once, which ones are the ports?

This game isn't easy but not quite as difficult as the review implies. Its not harder than Ghosts 'n Goblins or Castlevania. It will be enjoyable to you if you enjoy the 2 games I mentioned. It has a mild Megaman vibe also. I'd probably give it a 7 but everyone will have a different opinion. Thanks for the review!

@SLIGEACH_EIRE As a person who likes his Wii U and a game collector I can understand that point of view but Nintendo doesn't make money on the resell market. They only make it on new sales so all these ports makes sense for them. The Wii U just didn't sell well so this is Nintendo's opportunity to get awareness out there for some of these Wii U games (and easy money) to the wider Switch market.

I'm glad to see all these arcade classics hitting the Switch. They aren't required to be bought so those complaining just look past them! I love my portable arcade!

That being said this game itself is only average. I bought it and beat it but it is a hardcore quarter muncher. I think a 6 is an appropriate score. Its fun once or twice but not amazing. I do want to mention that they do not offer a no filter graphics option like the Hamster releases. It says "none" but smoothing is still applied. Also did anyone notice a weird music glitch? If you mash the A button with the knight on level 1 and a few other spots the music speeds up. Maybe that's just me?

@Lroy Overall the emulation is good. It just seems to be an odd thing with the knight on certain stages. No big deal but noticeable. Also they do offer lots of different graphic filters but oddly enough there doesn't appear to be a no filter option. There is a selection for none but it still has smoothing applied. Be nice to have a true no filter mode.

Re: Random: Counting The Screws In NES Cartridges Is A Big Deal For Collectors

Synthatron_Prime

@GC-161 I actually tend to buy Famicom when I can because it's cheaper. But prices for NES games I want like Metal Storm, Kick Master, Power Blade 1 and 2, etc. are up there. In the hundreds for some and that's without box or instructions. That's not even counting the rare ones I'm not looking for like Flintstones Adventure at Dinosaur Peak, Little Samson, or Panic Restaurant which climb even higher.

Flea markets aren't as viable anymore because they know what they have and price things accordingly. So unless you get real lucky you usually gotta go eBay.
