Hopefully most of whatever these 3rd party releases are get confirmed for Xbox or PS5 afterwards. I love Nintendo but I'm tired of games running and looking early last gen.
@Magician That and Glover were the ones that stumped me the most. Bill and Ted objectively is a terrible game. Only reason I can think of is it was dirt cheap for the rights. When I see some of their releases it always reminds me of the Jurassic Park line. To paraphrase "You were so busy wondering if you could you didn't stop to think if you should."
In the end I don't have to buy it and if it makes others happy that's cool. But it is bizarre.
Graphically looks like doo doo. If the original were included I'd probably buy it. Not sure I can ever get used to this graphic style. At least not at this level of execution.
@Shredderlovespizza Yeah after gaming on PS5 or Series X then jumping to a Switch game I feel like I spread Vaseline over my eyes with that low resolution and blurry textures. Occasionally the juttery framerate has made me feel ill, no joke. I love Nintendo and I do enjoy my Switch but it's time to upgrade, Nintendo. When you can't even maintain 30fps at 720p in a Nintendo made game its time to rethink your hardware specs.
I do believe if all you do is play portable mode then it's easier to ignore this stuff. And it's OK if people don't care about framerate or resolution but these really do factor into enjoyment of a game for many players. Framerate is especially important. I game on a TV most of the time so the issues are stark.
I don't understand why some people get mad at others wanting a smoother game experience. If they bring out a Pro system ignore it and let us that care enjoy it. With these Nintendo IPs we don't have any other legit options.
I'm good with it being in the middle of its life cycle if they intend on creating a new home console and focus on the Switch as mainly a portable. Which we know they won't... Nintendo needs a more powerful console. Just look at recent Nintendo releases for proof of that with their low and inconsistent framerate and low resolution.
The Switch has been showing its lack of power for a while, especially since the new consoles hit. It's only going to get worse. Change the Switch to focus on handheld only and give us a more powerful console that can at least handle 1440p/60fps.
Great game and I'm hoping it gets a port to a more powerful console one day for increased fidelity. I enjoy it as is and it has great style but increased clarity and texture quality world be a huge boon. Playing on a PS5/XSX then switching back to playing on the Switch is rough sometimes.
I backed this and ended up getting my copy after 4 years so it's definitely real. It took so long by the time I got it I no longer had hardware capable of playing cartridges as I'd moved on to a MiSTer. Based on reviews it seems average at best so I kept it sealed and sold it. I'll try a digital version on Switch though.
You know what boosts my gameplay experience? A stable 60fps and an actual HD resolution. I love Nintendo but they are always stubborn and cheap when it comes to tech nowadays. It's at the point where even 1st party games do not run well on the hardware. See Age of Calamity for more.
@JasmineDragon Play Asia had it fairly cheap recently with free shipping. If it's still a lower price it may be your best time to buy. I have been playing this series for 20 years. They are good fun!
@Ludovsky great point about hardcore vs casuals. I have to explain that to my buddy all the time. Sure we notice the small stuff. Casuals don't read sites like this or even care. And if not for casuals there would be no game market so that needs to be considered.
It's like any tech, including TVs. My father in law bought a TV recently and my wife was saying he should have talked to me before buying. I told her he isn't looking for what I look for. He just wants a decent 4k smart TV. He doesn't care about hdmi 2.1, vrr, etc. So what I tell him doesn't matter.
Neat. But if you own a Playstation or Xbox I highly recommend getting that version instead of/in addition to this. I bought the LRG physical of this on Switch and it's pretty ugly compared to the stronger consoles, similar to Trials of Mana.
@Why_Do_I_Exist Its perfectly OK to be satisfied with this release or disappointed. This is their second revision that focuses on portable gaming. What about improving docked performance?
People can be OK with outdated hardware and satisfied with how the games perform on Switch but facts are facts. Most 3rd party games run way worse on Switch. Especially when compared to Series X and PS5. That's why many of us were hoping for a performance boost to at least get to last gen standards. Hence the disappointment.
With the release of this and the Lite they are ignoring anyone who plays docked. Very annoying. All these "upgrades" are not expensive and should have been there from the start.
If they are still using the outdated internals the cost increase is just being greedy. Very disappointing but not unexpected from Nintendo. They haven't had good tech since the Gamecube.
The frame drops are there no matter how many people say they didn't notice them. If you don't notice them that's cool but many of us do. My only hope is that it was an old build and the final product was smoothed out.
I'll buy it on PS4 for the better performance and because it'll be first. I'll grab the special edition for Switch down the road just because. I'm excited for it!
While I'm sure the game is nostalgic for PC only gamers back in the day its just not a very good game. I respect the nostalgia but compared to console platformers of the time this game was rough. Its similar to lots of Amiga titles. Just not that good compared to consoles.
@Jokerwolf I removed my initial response because I misread your response, lol. It will be interesting to see what developers can do but the fact that MiSTer does all kinds of random computer cores and arcade cores as well as consoles keeps me there. That and it's open source which encourages development. Not sure people will jump at the chance to give Analogue free labor but you never know.
Good shooter but overrated imo. Radiant Silvergun is better and doesn't rely on a gimmick for its central gameplay. Ikaruga does sound and look beautiful though.
@robr Yeah the pricing is out of wack. Thankfully the recently announced physical Space Invaders collection for the west at least has all 11 games included in the base version.
@Tasuki Of course because you said you don't choose to spend your money on this you are poor. That's a logical, completely intelligent, and non-ass assumption. You definitely don't have other priorities than a $500 metal luxury old game system. Nope. And somehow all knowing Alan missed the part about buying MiSTer which is about 400 dollars for a decked out one. But he probably thought I was talking about a person and is ignorant of what it actually is.
Agreed that the value just isn't there. The way they list the games makes it seem like you are getting a good value when actually you are only getting 3 games with balance differences. I was hoping the Strictly Limited release would have an all in one standard edition for a reasonable price but nope. Too expensive. Im worried they will over price the Space Invaders collection if they do that too.
@Mark-number-12 good plan. I was lucky enough to grab the free download of the 1st season pass on PS4 when it was available. Just waiting on a price derp for the game, lol.
@Mark-number-12 I agree, it's a nice port. I'll get it on ps4 because I probably wouldn't play it portable and I'd prefer higher resolution and a more stable framerate. But for those that want the portability this is a winner. And to clarify I originally wanted it for Switch because I have other fighters on it but changed my mind recently. Definitely enjoy the game regardless of format!
@Mark-number-12 maybe I missed a more recent update but the framrate tests had it dropping below 60fps quite often. Like a replied to someone earlier if you're good with it that's good. That's the important part.
@retro_player_22 It's good you're happy with it, that's what counts. Looking at frame rate analysis videos it's constantly dropping below 60fps during gameplay. For me personally I want a consistent frame rate for a fighter. Unless they've improved or patched it it does not run consistently. It's not terrible by any means though.
@Ryan_Again Good insight. I can see what you mean. I don't speak fluent Japanese but I've been listening to it for over 20 years so I get what you mean by the tropes.
I'll need to see it with the final build. The ugly sprite smeared version of Grandia 1 they showed at E3 was not looking good, among the other bugs. Apparently they won't let you play with original sprites. Between that and no physical I may not grab it.

Re: Review: Fatal Frame: Maiden Of Black Water - A Ghostly Wii U Treat Resurfaces On Switch
