My Nintendo is a service that still feels as though it's in its infancy, but Nintendo still does what it can to remind consumers that it's there. The mission system is a cool way to incentivize gamers to collect coins for the service, and with Gamescom now in full swing, Nintendo has opted to toss up a few missions centered around its presence there.
Some new missions recently popped up on the European My Nintendo service that rewards players for visiting its Gamescom website and doing certain actions. Here's what you have to do:
- Find the Sheikah eye on gc.nintendo.de (10 Platinum Coins)
- Find the splat on gc.nintendo.de (10 Platinum Coins)
- Join us live on gc.nintendo.de (20 Platinum Coins)
For those of you that are actually at Gamescom, playing Mario Party Star Rush, Monster Hunter Generations, and any two indie games will net you an additional 300 Platinum Coins if you're already a member, or 250 if you're a newly registered member. These missions are all only available until 21st August, so get 'em before they're gone. Also, it seems North Americans have to sit this one out, as it's currently exclusive to the European My Nintendo.
What do you think? Do you regularly use My Nintendo? How do you think it could improve? Drop us a comment in the section below.

gotta collect those platinum points to get the dream: 15% off wii party u!
Maybe add some new games so we can actually use these points Nintendo!
That's cool. Now if only we had something worth spending the coins on.
My-Nintendo is getting worse. Today all the good rewards are gone. I just wanted to buy Xenoblade X...
Well good to see Nintendo hasn't changed a single bit over the years.
We never had Club Nintendo up here in Scandinavia and now we finally got my.nintendo, we practically have no means to collect platinum coins, as Miitomo has never been released here either.
Unless you are a millionair and buy an insane amount of games every single month to build up platinum coins fast enough before they expire again! /Facepalm
No new rewards
They could have at least left wario touched if they arent planning to replace it
My Nintendo is a failure that makes even club Nintendo look good
Yes! I can use these points on absolutely nothing!
As many said, we need new rewards, not more coins.
I let some rewards I wanted time out cause I was super curious to see what they were gonna to offer in their place, I did not expect that "Nothing" was a possibility T_T;;;
"Also, it seems North Americans have to sit this one out, as it's currently exclusive to the European My Nintendo."
Australia also misses out
Well, as stated before, we really need something to spend all the coins at! Right now it´s really empty on the rewards area!
@Jeronan This so much, once again Nintendo doesn't utilize their ideas to the fullest, and only really care about the NA or JP when it comes to things like this.. there is still no Miitomo release? How am i supposed to get coins unless i buy for every damn tier of coins every time it reset.
@Pahvi That is nothing! Most of what you said is a one time thing.
Only the log once a week into eShop that gives you 120 Points and so easily to forget, since there are so few worthwhile releases this year.
The weekly login is practically the only thing we have to collect Points and is nothing compared to the amount of points people collect through Miitomo.
I am just baffled why we never got a release here, since we never get nor do need any localisation anyway.
@samuelvictor
"I still log in every Monday to collect my platinum points for visiting miiverse, eshop & the my Nintendo site weekly."
That's only 90 coins. You miss 30 each week. Also visit Nintendo.com.
I stopped using My Nintendo a while back. It's too complicated and the offers are useless. Better off going elsewhere.
@samuelvictor it's not on the missions but you still get 30 points.
But good luck spending it on something
Spoilers (if you're interested)
Sheikah eye is hiding on the footer replacing the Twitter logo. Once clicked the Twitter logo reappears.
The splat is on the Splatoon page, hiding on the bottom right hand corner of the first video
Don't spend all those coins at once.
Maybe if Nintendo add actual games to buy rather than discounts I might have more insentive to do these missions.
40 coins aren't that much but I will give it a try if I don't forget!
@Pahvi I have that problem I never seem to gather enough to get a reward. Well, right now there is nothing to spend on, but few weeks ago I was nervous all the time because I had to choose one and sacriface another due to the expiration dates and limited point earning. Jeronan must feel similar.
Another thing is that, the purchases between both programmes don't count. I have like half of the eShop on SD card and no gold coins xD
Woo, now I have 2705 Platinum coins to spend on literally nothing.
With these new missions and rewards disappearing I imagine there will be a rewarss update today or tomorrow.
I can't see anywhere to "watch Games on live". Is there a scheduled broadcast at some time?
Gamescom not Games on. Autocorrect lol.
@Kiz3000 The right most tab on the site ("program" if you use your browser's translator), a stream is about to start so you'll be able to easily get the "Z" the mission is asking for.
Fascinating. I learned so much about the upcoming Gamescom as an anglophone visiting the German Nintendo website(!)
Clearly, Nintendo Europe's intention with this rewards system is to make people aware of their Gamescom show, tune in, and subequently, buy their games, but for anyone who doesn't speak German, it's a wasted effort.
They couldn't translate it to any of the other European languages?
I'll take those coins though, NoE.
No point, complete waste of time without anything to spend points on.
I feel like I'm collecting stamps on a loyalty card and everytime I fill one they give me a bigger card and no reward. It's the complete opposite of what they are trying to achieve with loyalty schemes imo. I have never felt the need to purchase more to gain rewards like I did with club Nintendo!!
I'm putting these priceless platinum coins right next to my Itchy 'n' Scratchy money and piles of euros that'll be worthless when the union dissolves within a decade.
@jimi Sheikah eye is hiding on the footer replacing the Twitter logo. Once clicked the Twitter logo reappears.
I finally have enough points for anything in the current catalogue however there is nothing I want. I don't understand why they cant do more frequent updates. and they need to start to offering more free game download incentives. warioware and the picross game were great but there hasn't been anything since. I don't have a new 3ds so everything else is useless.
@Mitch Vogel I think for those at Gamescom, there is a requirement to particpate in any match in the Battle Corner as well as the missions you already listed. Any German speakers check that out as my German is wobbly? Looks like there's a free pack of Animal Crossing amiibo cards for everyone who asks at the booth too. You have to take your 3DS and game to the information desk and there are 100 packs to be given away each day.
Mission: "Find our best demo in the depths of Gamescom, Zelda Botw. You need to survive many traps to get there!"
Bonus-mission: "Go even further in this sacred area, and you find Picross 3D 2. The game we have forgotten about"
Remember the My Nintendo launch where everybody said that it had potential? Well, it's been 6 months and nothing has changed.
In North America, the digital game rewards are staying up until October....October.
Yeah more coins for me to spend with, if Nintendo remembers that aspect of My Nintendo.
I wish there was something to spend the coins on.
So many coins, so few worthwhile rewards...
my nintendo is pretty crappy so far
I WANT PHYSICAL GOODIES JEEZ
How about announcing new stuff to redeem instead of handing out points to buy nothing?
Werent they promising things like deals with cinemas and theme parks? I'd happily exchange points for a movie ticket during these drought periods....
The Splat was very simple for me to find. The Sheikah eye took me slightly longer, but it was hidden in the same place as one of the hidden things in the E3 page and so didn't take me long.
As for the 20 points for watching live, I'll have to try that again another day, and remember that the times on the German site are an hour ahead of me.
Despite being a European region in terms of licensing, Australia does not have these rewards.
