I don't care for review bombing, but the criticism is valid. The lack of multiple islands doesn't affect me, but it can hurt the game for those who have to share their consoles.
@Mana_Knight I really don't think so. There are plenty of organizations that handle animal care and protection without being a joke and while doing so.
Gacha mobile games were already pushing boundaries, but these subscriptions between Mario Kart Tour, Animal Crossing Pocket Camp, and now this is revolting.
A single Pokemon's data is roughly a 1/4 of a kb, making 6000 Pokemon is just about 1.5 mb. That's one-ten thousandth of the storage space Google offers for free.
1.5 MB is so small why is it even a cloud storage to begin with? That could have just been allocated into the application itself, which is likely hundreds of times larger than that anyways. Accessing your bank from other Switches is really situational and could have been done through cloud saves, and the only reason to access from your phone is for GTS, which was a feature that should have been in the main game.
Long story short, saying this is excusable because it's a service make sense, because the only reason this is a service is so that it could be charged like one.
I love classic Paper Mario and 2D Metroid. I'm taking this with a grain of salt, but it'll be very cool if it's true. Any Nintendo Direct that presents both of these will become the best direct in my book.
Byleth is fine as an addition, but he should have kickstarted the next DLC pack, rather than be the finale for the first.
Off the toes of four, seemingly impossible additions, he's underwhelming.
My biggest issue with FE reps is not the whole 'generic anime swordsman' complaint, but the fact they only represent what's currently popular in the franchise. Outside the Smash community and just in the Fire Emblem community Ike and Roy aren't very relevant and the Awakening characters are losing relevance as Three Houses is becoming the new gateway into the franchise. Byleth is only going to be relevant until the next Fire Emblem game.
I think the game should get a remake first. The base game is great but has some elements that didn't age favorably. Battle system and movement was slow, and there were high encounter rates even during some puzzle segments.
None of this sounds like an overhaul. I would really like to see them port it.
The more potentially damning aspect of Dexit is that the competitive meta's going to have to reboot with every new release now, rather than just the minor updates games between generations brought.
Dexit isn't inherently good or bad of the meta, but the competitive scene for Sword/Shield is a mess right now.
Having some actual control over app locations, as well as other things like themes and folders would help a lot. But after three years it's clear these updates are. not a priority...
Dexit would have been fine if improvement was elsewhere, but nothing that's in the game is anything that couldn't have been expected with or without dexit.
The meta is broken and some animations are actually worse than their 3DS counterparts (IE: no more head-turning with Pokemon with max affection).
@Passive_Mewtwo This is something a lot of people don't talk about when comparing Megas to Dynamaxing/Gigantamaxing. In a lot of cases, using certian items would be just as viable of an option, and in other cases a more viable option, than using a Mega Evolution. There was some opportunity cost when deciding if a Pokemon should run as your team's mega.
There's no tangible opportunity cost for Dynamaxing. You are at a disadvantage if you don't use it at any point in a battle.
They have more say on the evolution on the Meta than gamefreak does, espically if online 6 v 6 matches still have a 20 minute limit.
Not that it maters much because two years from now Game Freak will be saying "What's Dynamaxing? That's not the current gameplay gimmick." like they are now with megas and z-moves.
Wait until everyone learns that Hollow Knight takes after Castlevania.
If you like Hollow Knight and this turns out to still be good, then congrats, you have another good game like Hollow Knight. That isn't something to complain about, imo.
Epic Mickey could really use an HD remaster, at least. It looks good for a Wii game, but the low resolution and color palette hold it back graphically.
Changing up the controls and making tutorials optional would help a bit too.
I thought Generation 6 of consoles was one of the most unique Generations, even if we limited the look at Nintendo and the Gamecube alone.
Sequels from games of the prior generation, like Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker, changed enough to be barely considered sequels.
If they didn't reinvent the wheel then they only got a single title on the Gamecube, like Fire Emblem, F-Zero X, or Super Smash Bros Melee.
Then you had games like Metroid Prime and Luigi's Mansion, which were from older franchises yet experimented with new genres and gameplay elements.
Then there were new IPs like Pikmin, not to mention third-party titles like Super Monkey Ball, Baten Kaitos, and Viewtiful Joe.
And that's just limiting that console generation just the Gamecube. Sega, Sony, and Microsoft all both created amazing new IPs as well as new takes on older franchises for their consoles as well.
I think Regie's statement makes sense with Mario Party though. That had four titles on the Gamecube. Way too much.
@Yorumi I agree with this. If I heard prior to this game's announcement that it would feature less Pokemon than XY, I would have anticipated an overall for the battle animations. Making the turn-based combat look much more lively.
The game as it is now doesn't really feature anything that I wouldn't imagine not being there regardless of Dexit.
Game Freak really needs more time for these games, these kinds of issues (as well as the issues with Little Town Hero) makes me fear that there were massive crunch periods during development just to get it out for the holidays.
That goes against what Nintendo's want for their own development team, even though Game Freak isn't 100% owned by Nintendo, their actions will still be reflected through Nintendo. So I really hope this isn't the case.
Regardless if it's true or not, I still vouch for longer development time for these games. If longer periods of having no Pokemon games hurt the franchise, then bring back spinoffs, it's been three and a half years since the last non-mobile Pokemon spinoff.
@shoeses Speaking of which, Explorers of Time/Darkness,Sky, a game pretty well-loved, had some really critical reviews.
IGN gave that one a 4.9/10.
But I can't say I'm surprised, that game had a larger focus on long-term dungeon crawling, which leads to resource management with the game asks you to keep a healthy stock of food and healing items, and because of the dungeon crawling, simply using moves are at a premium. The game encourages you to use moves at the most opportune moments rather than for the sake of damage.
And since the game relies on RNG any lack of skill a reviewer has that causes them to fail at any of the above elements of the game design allows them to simply blame it on the game itself.
Meanwhile, SwSH is a less than 20-hour game that requires no real thought for competition, turn-based combat that has no sense of stress with long-term dungeon crawling or resource management, and plenty of instant gratification.
This is as review-friendly as it gets, with or without the bugs.
Pretty sure the average NatDexer hates the people sending death threats as much as anyone else.
They get lumped together and it's used an excuse to not take the criticism seriously.
Recently leaked streams show a lack of polish. I'm not going to link here for the sake of spoilers, but some major examples are that models have been models poping in and out and tons of locations lack battle backgrounds. Haven't seen this level of cutting corners in any Nintendo game in years.
@suikoden Base game is easily about three times the first in length. But it's a little shorter than the second, but to be fair the second had more padding (like repeating room puzzles when you re-encounter them in different missions.)
If you're aiming for 100% though, then it's definitely longer than the second game.
These are all confirmed Pokemon that are listed as NU (Never used) or lower in the competitive rankings. Including evolutions, they take up about roughly 50-60 slots alone.
Not denaying these Pokemon have fans, I personally really like Quagsire and Vikavolt, but eliminating weak Pokemon is definitely not a goal of the cut.
@construx I got Cyber Sleuth on the Switch last week, it's pretty solid. The sad thing is that it's roughly graphically on par with Sword/Shield but it's actually a port of a Vita game.
Alongside the comments saying size isn't content, I'm still skeptical about this statement.
The image on the header of this article, for example, is the trainer standing near the most southern part of the map looking at the closest city... that's easily over a 3rd of the Wild Area's longest dimension.
@JaxonH It would have been crazy talk to say it four years ago, but I'm pretty sure the interest in Yokai Watch could possibly be higher in the west than in Japan right now.
Really need a Switch release to tell for sure though.

@MrGlubGlub They even gave Sonic 2006 a good score, averaging at about 7.25-7.5 out of 10.
And that's one of their lower ratings.
Re: The First Animal Crossing: New Horizons Review Is In, And It Might Surprise You
Famitsu has only given 1 negative review in their 30+ years of publishing, and they give nearly every title in major franchises a near-perfect score.
Why is this surprising?

The mainline Pokemon games require thrice the inputs just to execute an attack. That's the nature of menu-based gameplay.
This is as streamlined as you can get for a dungeon crawler.
