Re: Chrono Trigger Director Takashi Tokita Is Producing Switch JRPG Oninaki

@jobvd Yeah, making 'games like the classics' is a very vague goal.

Lost Sphere had a lot of unneeded mechanics that felt like they were just there because other games had them. I'm at least a little hopefull this game won't fall down that trap since that's less likely to happen with an action RPG, but the company's current track record prevents me from being excited about this game.

@jobvd The magic of Chrono Trigger was that it was a fun and original idea for a JRPG.

SImply trying to replicate it will make a poor man's version of what made it good.

The only way to 'recapture' the magic of Chrono Trigger is to make a game with the same unique charm it had without having to rely on CT for the sake of marketing.

Re: Disappointing 3DS Software Sales Show The Console's Slow Death In Japan

Seacliff

@DeltaPeng Install base only means something if the owners are buying games for the devices, which the numbers show very few 3DS owners still are.
Indies have already built a reputation of selling several times more on the Switch anyways. If a game is released on both the Switch and 3DS like Curse of the Moon then it's selling more on the Switch.

@foodmetaphors HDMI cable and the dock are not expensive to manufacture. The dock is nothing more than a USB-C to HDMI extender surrounded in plastic.

You are also only looking at very basic parts of the Switch's hardware. From what I know about the Switch's current hardware:
-The circuit board's vertical length is reached both ends of the system, meaning it will need to be repurposed and resized. This WILL need to be smaller, and it WILL be more expensive doing so.
-The current fan is 1/6th of the hardware. This fan WILL need to be smaller WHILE being just as, if not more, powerful. Meaning it will be a more expensive fan.
-The Switch's battery takes over 1/3rd of the consoles space. This WILL need to be smaller, while still being able to hold a reasonable amount of energy. At the very least, it's not going to be cheaper.

And that's only the cost problem. I already said in other posts the issues regarding a smaller screen and the removal of Joycons.

@leo13 If you've played Hyrule Warriors or BOTW in portable mode, then you would know the text for a lot of these games are already so small. Shrinking the screen would make some games illegible.

And a game's Resolution is code handled on the software side, you can't cleanly cut down a game's resolution without seeing plenty of visual artifacts.

Re: Gaming Analysts Predict 'Switch Pro' And 'Switch Lite' Revisions For 2019

@toffeecrit That's what I am thinking. Games like Labo, Super Mario Party, and 12 Switch wouldn't be playable on it, and they would need to state that on the box or something.

A smaller screen would also be an issue, since games like BOTW, Hyrule Warriors, and other ports from home consoles have absurdly small text that's already hard to read on the current screen.

It'll be a very messy change.

Re: Rumour: Level-5 Game Delays Linked To Mass "Employee Exodus"

Seacliff

I could believe it, but at the same time this only occurred because two games were delayed.
One of them I know was heavily criticized for its performance, and both of them could be projects that were bigger than the company initially anticipated. So it's also possible they were delayed because simple because they are behind schedule.
