During Nintendo's Indie World showcase, we got our first look at the timed Switch exclusive, Murder By Numbers. The game is set in the '90s and takes place in Hollywood. The story is about an actress who finds herself starring in her very own murder mystery.
Your job – with the help of your robot friend named Scout – is to dig up clues by searching around the place, interrogating suspects and solving picross puzzles. The game is supported by music from Masakazu Sugimori, the composer behind Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and Viewtiful Joe, and has weird and wonderful characters designed by Hato Moa of Hatoful Boyfriend.
Murder By Numbers arrives "early" next year. What are your first impressions of this game? Tell us down below.

I like murder mysteries and I like picross, so we'll see.
This game is my fetish.
I love everything about this.
This was honestly my favorite part of the indie showcase. It's like those silly hidden object games which try and shove the DEEP PLOT angle into the proceedings ("Oh no! My uncle Ravenloft died on Friday the 13th and left me this haunted mansion! Now go find a pinwheel, a turtle, a snow globe, three birds, and the letter K."), but the picross puzzles in this game are themed after the mystery you're solving, making them much easier to swallow in context.
It also reminds me of James Noir's Hollywood Crimes on 3DS, which was a murder mystery with bouts of Professor Layton in the proceedings. I guess combining murder mysteries with game genres is just a good idea in general, hehe.
only four games i got interested in;
the birb skating board
the comic 40's style game
boyfriend dungeon
DreamScaper
:3 cannot wait for them to come out.
Ah, I knew I was forgetting something... one for my watch list, for sure!
This game has my attention with the artstyle alone.
@Dakotastomp the character outlines are kinda weird. I do like how the characters look otherwise.
@MrVariant I think it's to fit the 90's aesthetic like a magazine cut out or collage. It works in that way.
The title Murder by Numbers can only remind me of Yoyoka covering the Police song of that same name, which is astounding!!!!
Pretty interesting concept, love Phoenix Wright so I’ll keep my eye on this one. Not a fan of the outlines on the characters but we’ll see how it turns out.
Down in the park where the machmen meet the machines, and play Murder by Numbers.
Down in the park with a friend called Scout.
I thought the music sounded a little too much like Phoenix Wright, At least there's a reason for that Looks interesting though. I like picross and Phoenix Wright.
This seems bizarre, but I do like both Ace Attorney and Picross, so sure, why not?
That reminds me, I need to finish the Picross games I have on my Switch first.
Two of my favorite DS classics coming together in a whacky genre mashup?
I love it!
Could be great, or it could just not work. I'm very open to finding out, though.
I’ve heard this game is as easy to learn as your A, B, C’s
