Re: The Dream Of Crowdfunded Switch Dock SFANS Has Turned Into A Nightmare

SM4SHshorts

I received mine a few weeks back. So far, so good - apart from the change in design (which I'm still not happy about). Only difference is that it doesn't 'control' your TV like the official dock does - you have to manually select the HDMI source yourself. That could be the issue that some of the people listed above are running into, as we're now so used to the official Switch dock turning on our TVs and hopping to the correct HDMI source automatically.

EDIT: Just read one of the comments in the article - I too requested a refund a while back, and they ignored my emails and simply sent me the product instead. I'm in the process of chasing them up as the product is not as initially advertised - and I'm skeptical of it malfunctioning after some time as per the comments above.

EDIT #2: Ladies and gentlemen, my skepticism proved to be correct - I can now say my SFANS is no longer alive. A great experience for all of two weeks, with less than a handful of uses. Email number 476 is on its way to them now...

Re: Hands On: The Future Of Gaming Is Cardboard, Thanks To Nintendo Labo

SM4SHshorts

I've gotta say, I sighed and rolled my eyes when I saw the opening minute of the video. But the more it went on, the more I realised how genius this concept is, at least for kids. Nintendo are geniuses when it comes to innovation, and they've proved that here yet again - and this "hands on" article cements that further.

To think cardboard just made me emotional.

Re: Alas, The World's Best Smash Bros. For Wii U Player Is Retiring

SM4SHshorts

@LordGeovanni Agreed.

@Euler That's true, but to play devil's advocate, you can't play the HD and arguably more played version on the go. It's a tough one this - again I agree that it's too early for a new instalment, and maybe even an enhanced remake, but then how do you explain MK8D?

A Smash port like MK8D with some nice new features (characters, stages, maybe a mode or two) is certainly something I've certainly wanted on the Switch since day one. As Smash is near and dear to me, the thought of waiting at least another year kills me!

Re: Alas, The World's Best Smash Bros. For Wii U Player Is Retiring

@LordGeovanni It's weird, I completely agree with you and have always thought this, but only with Smash 4 (one of my favourite games of all time) I make an exception.

Course, I wouldn't simply want a port of the exact Wii U version, but I also wouldn't mind something as simple as a few extras much like MK8 Deluxe received, just so I can play the game on the Switch (and thus on the go).

I have the unpopular opinion that it's still too early for Smash 5 - Smash 4 is still going strong and a game of its calibre (with some nice new features) deserves to be on Nintendo's latest hybrid system.

Re: Soapbox: What The Upcoming Pokémon Switch RPG Can Learn From Recent Pokémon Games

SM4SHshorts

@Serebii To your point regarding Mega Evolution and Ultra Beasts, I can’t help but feel the way I do regarding what the recent games have conveyed to me, and that’s that concepts such as Mega Evolution and Z-Moves have depicted Pokémon as Transformer-like entities, with Ultra Beasts not clicking with me at all. Also, I didn’t say anything about wanting every Pokémon be able to Mega Evolve, but just that the fact that some were picked over others fuels my opinion of not wanting it as an available mechanic at all.

As for looking into the future for newer Pokémon games, I can respect and understand that opinion, but I suggested the idea of the Switch title having no new ‘Mon due to some of the earlier points made regarding the amount of Legendary and Mythical Pokémon out there, as well as the game being on a system such as the Switch. The latter would hopefully provide a unique experience for even seasoned players, which could hopefully sell itself as the franchise's first HD main series core Pokémon RPG on a home console, therefore negating the recurring need of new critters and areas. I'm not totally against the idea of Generation VIII, but I think the opportunity that the upcoming Pokémon outing has could really be great for an idea such as this.

Interesting points though - best we agree to disagree considering how strongly we both feel about the franchise!

Re: Review: Brawlout (Switch eShop)

SM4SHshorts

@carlos82 I think you've hit the nail on the head there. As an avid fan of Smash Bros.' mechanics, I'd've thought that I'd instantly gravitate to Smash clones such as this and RoA. Problem is, a huge part of what makes SSB so great is that it's filled to the brim with video game history, something that I'm afraid can't be topped.

SSB is about bringing established video game characters into a new world, the world that is Smash. It's the game that lets your playground discussions as a kid come into fruition. It's for that reason that I hold off on these clones (which may be to my disadvantage), but there's already so many other games to play with such little time!

Re: 5 Things To Do With Your Master Cycle Zero In Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

@-DG Hmm, interesting! For me, food didn't fill it up as much as ancient items did. I only needed a few springs and such (I've collected a bunch of them that have been sitting there for ages) to get it to a full tank. So for me, as someone who's beaten the game and bought all the ancient gear, it proved to be an efficient fuel source!

Re: Talking Point: The Dust Settles on a Giddy Retail Period for Nintendo Switch - What's Next?

SM4SHshorts

Makes me thing the big N will take Sony's and Microsoft's approach and produce a more powerful version of the Switch - like the Switch4K or something like that.

Makes sense - we're far from a new console, yet despite the Switch's brilliance and genius, it seems to be showing its true colours when it comes to third parties developing games for them. I see it happening in the next two years or so.

Re: Soapbox: It Took Nintendo To Turn Me Into A Smartphone Gamer

SM4SHshorts

Couldn't agree more. While I eventually fell off the Pokémon GO bandwagon, I've never booted up games on my smartphone on a consistent basis as much as I have over the last few years - and that's thanks to Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes, and believe it or not, Magikarp Jump.

I only now play Super Mario Run now and again, but it goes to show that it did indeed take Nintendo to turn me into somewhat of a smartphone gamer.

Re: Poll: Have Your Say on the Best Main Series 3D Mario and Zelda Games

SM4SHshorts

@Kayfios Not sure if you've read the part where I've justified from my POV why FSA wasn't included and and why NSMBW/NSMBU/NSLU were - hopefully that should clear it up! As for a "fair poll", comparing the main series home console games of Mario and Zelda would always yield an unequal set of games for each era - but it seems commenters here (including myself) still found it difficult to choose in certain eras, which was the aimed outcome!

@ottospooky As mentioned, the comparison between BotW and Odyssey as "Game of the Year" is what fuelled this article, hence why the focus is main series home console 3D games of each era and not entire franchises themselves. If that were the case, Super Mario has far more surrounding/spinoff titles than Zelda, so it'd likely easily sway the tide in Mario's favour.

Re: Review: Mario Party: The Top 100 (3DS)

SM4SHshorts

It's a shame, though I think I'll still pick it up as the very last title for my New 3DS XL. Despite its obvious flaws, it's still a Mario Party filled with the best mini-games at the end of the day.

Here's to hoping for a resurrection to the series with MP11 for the Switch.
