Re: Review: Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (3DS)

SM4SHshorts

I've made my comments about USUM loud and clear in the past, but this review's score has surprised me. As a Pokémon fan, I truly am happy at the games' positive reception. As a consumer though, I'm not.

With it all taken into consideration, I think I'm going to stick to my guns and await the Switch's Pokémon RPG adventure.

Re: Guide: All The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild amiibo Unlocks

SM4SHshorts

Missed opportunity here.

While the helms are great, I do feel these amiibo should've also recharged each of their respective abilities without having to wait, but only once per day (for example the Revali amiibo recharging Revali's Gale).

I have every Zelda amiibo now except for the MM, TP, and SS ones - which I'm still searching far and wide for a not-so-ludicrous price.

Re: Pokémon Happy Meals Are Coming To McDonald's In The UK

SM4SHshorts

Over the last 2-3 years of Super Mario Happy Meals, I regularly went into McDonald's and asked for the toy only (99p), as I didn't want the actual food. The looks on the staff's faces were priceless, seeing a grown-ass man queue up only to ask for a toy.

I then became a recognisable face in the branch (not sure if that's a good thing), and they would "reserve" a toy for me and just throw it my way upon seeing me enter. Unfortunately, I'm no longer near that branch, but nevertheless here we go again

And not a single chip was eaten...

Re: Review: Sonic Forces (Switch)

SM4SHshorts

As controversial as this sounds, SEGA should just "lend" the Sonic franchise to Nintendo and let them make a game for it. I bet they'd give the franchise the resurrection it needs. His depiction in Smash speaks volumes.

Re: Nintendo's Updated Switch and 3DS Infographic Shows Off Winter Line-Up

SM4SHshorts

I'm glad to say only Mario Party: The Top 100, WWE 2K18 (whenever that releases) and the missing Sonic Forces.

With Odyssey still to 100%, BotW's second DLC to complete, Kingdom Battle to return to, and of course your ongoing staples like MK8 Deluxe, FIFA, and Smash Wii U, I've got enough to keep me content over the next few months.

Re: Nintendo Launches a 'Switch Moments Come to Life' Commercial

@vio Maybe there was a mixup in translation there. The "s" in "titles" was part of the sentence "1st and 3rd party titles". Sure, there could've been more 3rd party representation, but in light of what this advert was trying to achieve, I think they did pretty well.

I'm trying to imagine how they could bring WWE 2K18 into the living room of a family, without the parents and kids wrestling each other

Re: Video: 11 Reviews for Super Mario Odyssey that Are So Bad They're Good

SM4SHshorts

These are funny. I will say though, that Odyssey is different, both for good and bad reasons in my opinion.

My biggest gripe with it is that my OCD starts to kick-in and I feel compelled to collect as many Moons (and every Purple Coin) as possible before moving onto the next Kingdom - which kind of impacts my experience negatively. Sounds a little daft, but it stops my sessions from flowing as they should - especially as it's not made clear to you which Moons are actually obtainable at that point in time, and which you need to come back for.

Re: Exclusive: Game Freak Explains Why We Should All Play Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon

SM4SHshorts

It pains me to say that I will be cancelling my pre-order for this game. I hate to be that guy, but what on earth has happened to one of my favourite (now ex-favourite) gaming franchises of all-time? I enjoyed certain aspects of Sun & Moon, but features such as Ultra Beasts and Z-Moves weren't welcome additions for me. Heck, I still don't know what Ultra Beasts are exactly and why they exist. They felt so uninspired and I didn't feel compelled or excited to catch them at all.

I'm all for change, and I know it's needed, but since X & Y Pokémon has gradually started to turn into some sort of weird Digimon-esque franchise that's ruining what I love about it - that being an adventure about you catching and raising Pokémon as creatures in natural habitats (not machines or possessed humans). As weird as this sounds, the recent generations to me almost feel solely like a character-driven, Fire Emblem-esque RPG as opposed to a typical Pokémon one, with the focus and emphasis being on stories about the game's NPCs and non-Pokémon entities as opposed to the lore, legends, and wonders of the actual monsters themselves. Not sure if that makes sense - it's hard to convey what I mean exactly through here, but I haven't thoroughly enjoyed a Pokémon game since Generation V, or perhaps IV if I'm being critical.

This just doesn't do enough for me to warrant a purchase. I'll look forward to the upcoming Pokémon RPG for the Switch. Great job on securing the interview though, and great job with those questions - their answers are just what I needed to confirm my decision.

Re: Soapbox: Breath Of The Wild Is Amazing, But Is It The Game That Zelda Enthusiasts Expected?

SM4SHshorts

@ElekidDude I agree, the optional story points are definitely not a bad thing, but it's just that it could lead to many missing some of the best moments that help make the game what it is - i.e. missing the Master Sword. And speaking of the Master Sword...

@shani Even though people assume it's in the game, as mentioned, I've come across people who failed to pick it up the first time - and I was nearly one of them too! Also, players who are playing BotW as their first Zelda game are more likely to miss out on it/not bother as much due to not knowing much about it.

Re: Get Cap-tivated by This Extended Super Mario Odyssey Overview Trailer

SM4SHshorts

@SanderEvers Ha! People have said that to me (and I guess that is the point of the Switch), but I'm refraining from letting gaming isolate myself on a rare chance to leave the country for a break with my friends

Besides, I'm wanting to stream my entire play-through on Twitch - well that's the plan anyway. I guess it's just an unfortunate catch-22!

Re: Guide: Getting Started With The Pokémon Trading Card Game

SM4SHshorts

@Yosher This is me in a nutshell. I'd love to attempt to keep on top of them, but with the amount they release on an annual basis, it's just too much of a time-consuming and expensive hobby for me. I do find myself purchasing a few packs or themed decks here and there, however. Nothing like the element of surprise!

Great piece though, I'll be sure to come back to this should I ever want to delve into actually playing!

Re: The Sonic Movie is Now Being Produced by Paramount

SM4SHshorts

People insult the notion of video game movies - and rightfully so due to how much they go wrong - but I've always thought that if we had a high-quality-produced CGI film of something akin to the Subspace Emissary/the SSB4 character trailers, I'd personally love it! Man, I still love watching those cutscenes...

Re: Nintendo is Now 128 Years Old

SM4SHshorts

Loving some of the stories in this comments section.

One of my greatest "Nintendo moments" was on my 11th birthday. I was late on the Mario Party 3 wagon due to playing the hell out of MP1 and MP2, and as a little kid I didn't know about release dates and such. To my displeasure, all the shopkeepers told my dad that they didn't sell MP3 anymore. My dad saw me gawking at the GameCube systems set up around the store. I wanted it instead deep down, but I knew it was too much to ask for and was more than content with MP3. My dad then told me to wait outside while he "checked something". He then surprised me by the car boot with a GCN and Melee. I was nearly teary-eyed, and hugged my dad, which I never often did. That 10-minute car journey home felt like an eternity. One of the best moments ever, especially in hindsight as Melee is one of the few games that changed my life!

My second one was on Christmas morning of 1999. For months, my older brothet and I were fighting for the "single game of choice" our parents promised us for Christmas - I know, spoilt right? He wanted WrestleMania 2000, I wanted Smash 64. We both liked each other's picks too, but we were both passionate for our own choices. Christmas morning hits, and my parents tell us before opening any of our presents that they didn't get either game as we couldn't be sensible and agree to a single game. We were disheartened, but we didn't complain. Finally, after all the unwrapping of old socks and generic chocolates was done, my mum and dad gave us each an oddly shaped box and told us to check if the contents of each box were the presents she bought for our cousins. We reluctantly did with frowns on both our faces. But, lo and behold, he pulled Smash 64 out his box, and I pulled WM2000 out of mine, and as we saw what each of us held, we jumped up, screamed the house down, and hugged each other and our parents. You could say we were spoilt rotten that day, but that's a memory we'll both never forget.

Happy 128, Nintendo!

Re: Rumour: Data Miners Find Evidence of Pokémon Crystal in the Gold and Silver VC Releases

SM4SHshorts

@Decapre Hmm, yeah and no I'd say. Crystal is more or less the superior version to Gold and Silver, with the additional Battle Tower, animated sprites, Suicune storyline, and more.

Wouldn't make much sense to get Gold and/or Silver if Crystal was in the mix? But then they wouldn't release Crystal on its own, so I guess that's why G&S were chosen instead. Plus G&S allow people to complete the Pokédex within Gen II between the two versions.
