Re: Xbox Has Reportedly Sidelined Its First-Party Handheld (For Now)

RonF

I'm almost sure Xbox is leaving the hardware market and, thus, the console market. The next Xbox should be a PC with a Xbox compatible layer, thus capable of running third party stores, such as GOG or Steam. They increased the price of their consoles in Brazil to a point there aren't viable, a Series S is close to the price of a diskless PS5 whereas the Series X is midpoint between PS5 and PS5 Pro. I am waiting the Xbox presentation next month to place my series to sale.

Re: Soapbox: Fire Emblem’s Future May Not Be In Turn-Based Combat

RonF

Although I found Three Houses' storyline more interesting, I liked Engage more exactly because I found the combat to be more... engaging. They could add a layer of complexity in the combat as an option, although this would require a lot of game design work.

Three Houses' campaign was heavily advertised, and the Academy setting brought familiarity to the public. I had no idea of Engage storyline before playing, perhaps because it was rather weak anyway. Instead, they used nostalgia as the selling point. Not a great idea, considering most Fire Emblem's players have little familiarity with the legacy titles.

Re: Square Enix Is Reportedly Overhauling How It Makes Games

RonF

Large environments with incredibly detailed graphics are a formula for big losses. They should rethink their approach to art direction and try something less costly. They can keep Final Fantasy as a technical showdown but go for a more stylized look in other titles.

Re: Resident Evil Revelations 1 & 2 Are Coming To Switch Later This Year

RonF

Unfortunately, I find hard to thrust Nintendo with any digital purchase. I don't even know if they changed with the Switch but the insistence in previous consoles to attach it to consoles left me cold. I would prefer to buy both in cartridges, perhaps if there is enough buzz, Capcom might release a special edition.

Re: This Is The Last Real Console Cycle, Proclaims Industry Analyst Michael Pachter

RonF

I can go with Pachter in the first quote. In the second one, I think he is wrong. Most people that is fond of playing Call of Duty already have a console. If the game is available in generic systems, it will undoubtly attract new players. However, it will definitely not double the audience. Also, he doesn't address the emerging market as a potential grow to dedicated consoles. A box such as the new Apple TV is not as attractive as it doesn't have the full range of services of the American counterpart (I can rent and purchase movies but not TV shows in Brazil). In the other hand, last generation consoles are priced competively with it and can provide gam experiences nearly as fulfilling as the current generation machines.

Re: Miyamoto: Star Fox Zero Has Been Delayed, "I Am Very Sorry"

RonF

Perhaps the game needed extra work to be released. However, Nintendo is preserving the franchise at the expense of the Wii U. If the prospects for this holiday season were bad, they became worse. Without Zelda or StarFox to push the sales, the Wii U will be completely dead.

Re: Talking Point: The Mystery of Devil's Third and Its Drift Away from the Spotlight

RonF

My guess is that NOA decided Nintendo is a family brand and thus mature titles will hurt them. It is not much different from the reason why they passed on the opportunity of releasing the Wii's RPG, although they wouldn't hurt the brand they wouldn't either add value as they did not have enough appeal to the general public.

I would love if Nintendo created an imprint to release games, mature or otherwise, that don't fall on NOA narrow idea of what the Nintendo brand should be.

Re: Wii U Version of Watch Dogs to Miss Out on DLC

RonF

Months after the initial release and with all the hype behind, this went from a must buy to a may rent title. I appreciate that Ubisoft is, at least, giving some bones to the Wii U owners but they are not helping the sales releasing delayed or incomplete games.

Re: Nintendo 64x64: Doom 64

RonF

I never finished Doom 64. I was so used to play Doom with the keyboard and mouse that I wasn't able to adapt to the N64's controller.

Re: E3 2014: Ubisoft Admits to Holding Back Completed Wii U Game Until Sales Improve

RonF

At least he's very candid about the situation, which is the least I ask from a company such as Ubisoft. I have played Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and I greatly enjoyed them. I just brought Zombie U and I plan to purchase Child of Light and ACIII. If they stop supporting the Wii U, I will certainly miss their games.

Re: Nintendo Finally Confirms Call of Duty: Ghosts Is Coming To Wii U

RonF

@SCAR392 The ps4 and the Xbone have so much memory that it is possible that they will use textures too large to be handled by the Wii U. That said, I have no doubt Treyarch, with enough time and money to work on it, could do a Wii U port that would look closer to the ps4 than to the ps3.

Re: Nintendo Finally Confirms Call of Duty: Ghosts Is Coming To Wii U

RonF

@SCAR392 You misunderstood me. I don't have any other console but a Wii U and I would love to see Activision add more features in the port in the same way Criterion did with Need for Speed.

My argument is that, as the CoD's sales in the Wii U will likely pale compared to the 360 and ps3 versions, Activision has little incentive in spending money to make a better Wii U port. They will use the same code of last year, which is more less in par with the 360 and they will not place any further investment in optimize the engine to the full capacity of the Wii U. As I think Black Ops II's graphics were already good enough, I would rather have the DLC to play over a somewhat better graphic engine.

Re: Talking Point: It's Time for Nintendo to Drop Region Locking

RonF

Region looking is particularly bad on handhelds. Whenever I am travelling on Europe, I find very annoying to be unable to buy a game to the system I am carrying. The problem is somewhat mitigated by the online shop but Nintendo could be a little more friendly to their travelling customers.

Re: FIFA 14 Details Announced, Wii U Version Not Included In The Initial Line-Up

RonF

I am more of a PES fan but I am baffled by EA Sports not supporting the Wii U. It makes so little sense as development wouldn't be too costly and I cannot believe that any previous bitter interactions between EA and Nintendo's executives would be a problem when it is time to make some cash. Particularly because EA has not been doing great for the past few years.
