@johnvboy you realise that luck and success go hand in hand right? Of course it was luck...
if you think that the Switch would have been selling this well if there was no stock shortages for the PS5 & Xbox, then you genuinely perpetuate the textbook delusional Nintendo fan.
I bet you thought the Wii U was still going to be successful all the way up until 2016... I've met your type all too often on this website.
The pandemic playing in Nintendo's favour, yes that was luck.
Sony and Microsoft releasing consoles during a hardware shortage = lucky Nintendo...
"Are Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers eligible for My Nintendo Gold Points? Yes. You will receive Gold Points when you purchase a set of Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers, but you will not receive additional Gold Points when you redeem a voucher on a game."
Honestly this is somewhat expected, i would expect this to start happening in other territories as well, Nintendo have been riding the stock shortage wave that's been pummelling Sony and Microsoft.
In fact Nintendo have come out really strong from this pandemic, first they had Animal Crossing and all the extra console sales attributed to that
Then the other two decided to kill the sales of their existing consoles at the time by releasing new hardware that was obviously going to come across hardware shortages during a global pandemic
Nintendo caught a perfect storm of great luck for an entire 18 months, but i expect that as soon as supply catches up with demand, PS5 and Xbox will start to outsell Nintendo, this will be the case in every territory except Japan.
Can't say i care, Smash online doesn't work when there's 4 people playing at once, rarely do you get a decent game. Someone's connection is gonna be shoddy.
I occasionally play for fun, as long as its 1v1 or at most 3 players, but I'm not going to bother with any tournaments until they have dedicated servers.
@sanderev don't be logical, that type of stuff doesn't belong here.
Nintendo have stated that this upcoming presentation will be for software, so why would you not expect to see brand new hardware?
This is what Nintendo fans do. 24 hours till end of the world, Nintendo tells fans that they will never make another game again and the fans will hear that 5 new games are due to drop on their laps for free that afternoon.
More than with any other fanbase i can think of, expectations and reality with this fanbase are so far apart that it's actually unfathomable.
I love reading the comments sections though, you have so many bright eyed Nintendo fans hoping for great games and praying for Nintendo to take advantage of this.
It's so funny, because these people are mostly adults who actually are generally reasonable down to earth people, but when it comes to this, it's almost like their from a different dimension.
The expectations are so unfounded because Nintendo has literally NEVER TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF ANY E3.... EVER.
This is a gutsy move by the developers, very gutsy. A game like this, unless its got Final Fantasy level marketing attached to it, will not match up well against bigger games due to come around that time.
Sony left Japan because Japan's gaming preference started to shift towards portability a long time ago. Sony wanted to focus on console gaming.
Sony's last chance at making a product that would have kept them relevant in Japan was the Vita, which actually was fairly successful in Japan but it seems that Sony had nothing but contempt for having to cater to portability in order to remain relevant in Japan, so they essentially killed the Vita with next to no effort in making it work.
As a nation Japan had moved away from console gaming even before the Wii U was released, they actually make decent mobile games too, unlike the pay to win junk we get here.
Sony saw bigger benefits in sticking with global trends and making bigger and better console gaming experiences with more emphasis on graphics and frame rate.
This has left the Japanese market wide open for Nintendo. I mean... Until recently even the 3DS was outselling the PS4 in Japan.
Would be good to get some news on BOTW2, Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4, also wouldn't mind hearing about Hollow Knight Silk Song too but it does say focused on Nintendo software so thats doubtful.
Maybe more news on a potential Microsoft and Nintendo partnership and this is extremely doubtful but N64 games?? Id love N64 games...
To be honest though, these are not expectations, becausei doubt Nintendo would come close to meeting them.
Whatever they decide to do though, im sure it'll sound silly, they are terrible with their naming.
Although to be fair, the Switch was is actually spot on, if they stick with this line and maybe call an upgraded model "The Super Switch" id be pleasantly surprised.
I was reading the comment section in pure disbelief, i know this site is full of shills but damn. This is just hilarious.
Now i played Hexan and i liked it but no... just... No... this game LOOKS like Hexan, that isn't a compliment anymore.
It looks godawful and i genuinely hope they pull the plug on this, or the game just gets lost in the bin or something to stop this from being released.
I'll replay games like The Witcher 3, Monster Hunter Rise, Skyrim or Botw because those games are huge and you'll always find new stuff that you can do. To be fair though, Red Dead also another one but is the one im least likely to revisit because doing anything in that game takes far too much time.
Also games like Mario Kart, Splatoon or Smash have some replay value in the online portion of the games, but Smash's online is just a joke so I've spent much less time on that than the other 2.
@ImmortanJho no actually I've enjoyed MH Rise, put 180 hours so far and im probably gonna get up to 300 but its the last game im gonna sink that much hours on the Switch.
But to be fair my Switch has had a great run, easily over 4000 hours across some 30-40 games.
It's had its time, i can't wait for the Switch 2 but for now im probably gonna move on.
It was the same for the PS4 after God Of War came out, my gaming had fully moved on to the Switch by that point, been nearly 3 years since then.
Also consider the fact that Nintendo throughout its entire life has released a new console every 5 to 7 years with the Wii U been the shortest lasting console at just over 5 years.
Considering its been more than 4 years since the Switch launched, we can expect to see a new Nintendo console within the next 2-3 years, leaving no real room for a pro version of this console.
So that essentially gives me 2 to 3 years with my PS5, now i normally wait about a year for games to pick up on a new console so thats normally the time frame. It has been for years now.
What im saying here is the Switch has had 4 years and been very successful, not much a pro version will do now that a new console wont do in 2 years.
This article is talking about the Switch Pro like it's already been announced.
Unfortunately i think at this point, Nintendo would be better off holding off until their next console instead of putting effort on a Pro version of this console.
I wanted a Switch Pro but after Mon Hun Rise, I'm done with the Switch, it's had its time, moved on to the PS5 now.
This has a lot more to do with Japan's deteriorating relationships with China since Covid 19.
Not gonna get further into it but Japan has been giving incentives to Japanese companies to move their operations out of China. Not hard to figure out whats going on here.
Im not sure how i feel about this, on the one hand i think its great that we get more options.
On the other hand i don't see how a company thats half the net assets that Nintendo has, can even hope to compete who whoever is in the market already.
I mean if Apple and Google can't brute force their way in with all their money, i don't see how a company thats worth less than 40 billion is gonna do anything.
In short, Netflix are simply not big enough to really make any waves here, i mean if Nintendo wasn't already established as a gaming company, I'd doubt they could now in this day and age. Netflix just has little to no chance here.
Great game for it's time when games like this were limited on consoles.
It hasn't aged terribly but it's not worth their asking price by any stretch of the imagination.
This is also an upscaled port, not sure how or why a 20 year old game with minor improvements had to be delayed on the Switch, the game literally looks like a PS2 game from 20 years ago, the delay was 100% down to shoddy development.
But none of that matters. The game is simply not worth the asking price.
Dragon Quest 11 is not only my favourite Dragon Quest game but it's possibly my favourite JRPG of all time.
It's comfortably in my top 10 favourite games of all time.
Unfortunately the game had a gimped launch and didn't get nearly as many sales as it could of done. The shoddy version came out on the PS4 and Xbox One like nearly a year before the good version of the game, to top it off Japan stopped caring about the PS4 and the main market for that game was Japan.
Square should have waited to drop it on the Switch and other systems AFTER the Switch version was made available, not before.
That mistake cost them millions in additional revenue, by the time the Definitive Edition was available, most people had moved on and the launch of DQ11 in Japan was nowhere near what it should have been.
I don't agree with this, aside from games looking better this generation (PS4, Xbox One & The Switch/3DS and the Wii U), the gaming industry was more healthy last generation (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS, PSP), at that point mobile gaming also wasn't a thing so the landscape in terms of portability was a lot more accessible to the big 3 than it is now.
More games were sold last generation, more games were made last generation (we got 2 Elder Scrolls last gen, we got 2 GTA's plus many more).
More consoles were collectively sold last generation especially if you include the the portables from Nintendo and Sony.
In every single way other than games looking better this generation, last generation was better.
@JaxonH probably because they don't actually try, the last company on the level of Google or Amazon, who did really try, i mean really put some investment behind it, is Microsoft and I'd say mainly because of the mixed bag of success Microsoft has had has obviously been a strong reason why the other big tech giants haven't attempted it.
The gaming industry is a bit iffy, development cost for games compared with 20 years ago have nearly tripled, big AAA games use to take 2 years to churn out, now take 5 or 6.
People's wages have gone up too, particularly within the tech industry, which use to be the wild west 20+ years ago.
Overall your average AAA game is meant to cost $150 each, but no game developer in their right minds will charge that kind of price.
I mean Sony are attempting to make $70 the standard rate and people are having a fit over it.
The expectation of gaming fans and the reality of the real world is miles apart.
While this huge gap in expectation and reality exists, don't expect too many tech giants throwing big investments into gaming.
I love this game and i fully back more support from Capcom but lets be honest now, they kinda waited long enough.
We were getting old over priced ports for a good 4 years until this game dropped, Capcoms support of the Switch before Rise was a total joke, selling us shoddy ports of old games at knock off prices.
Many of it digital only as well, they gave us over priced ports of Devil May Cry and Re4 (with no gyro?) Before this.
Look im all on board the Capcom train but it took them 4 years to do something, compared with the support they gave the 3DS and the Wii U, they still have some work to do in my eyes.

@johnvboy Animal Crossing selling as well as it did because of the pandemic was 100% luck...
Or are you actually going to sit there and try to tell me it would have sold that well without the pandemic 🤣🤣🤣🤣...
I bet you are... 🤣🤣🤣

Yes. You will receive Gold Points when you purchase a set of Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers, but you will not receive additional Gold Points when you redeem a voucher on a game."

Re: Nintendo Reveals The Top 15 Most-Downloaded Switch Games In May 2021 (Europe)
@The_New_Butler well thats still convoluted and it doesn't give you access to gold points either.
You need to purchase the vouchers which cost $99 for a pair, use them to redeem only a select number of games and then download those games.
I rather just save myself the storage, get the games physically and get the gold points too.
Re: Nintendo Reveals The Top 15 Most-Downloaded Switch Games In May 2021 (Europe)
@The_New_Butler that's one time use. Not something that would help when buying 10 or more first party Nintendo games.

Oh look, it's another strand type game.
Very cheap, might give it a look.
Re: Nintendo Reveals The Top 15 Most-Downloaded Switch Games In May 2021 (Europe)
@RainbowGazelle especially in Europe...
Digital version of Botw is still £60 but the physical is like £40 or £45.
Thats not even a small difference either, you can buy 4 physical first party Nintendo games for the cost of 3 digital ones.
Thats a huge difference, especially if you have like me, 10 first party Nintendo games.
Re: Talking Point: What Do You Think The "Switch Pro" Will Actually Be Called?
The Not-Happening- Pro.
By the looks of things.
I hope finally the clowns running this website will stop with the rumours.
Yes it would be smart for Nintendo to release a Switch pro... or rather i should say, it WOULD have been smart to do it.
We're more than 4 years into the Switch's life span here.
Nintendo typically releases a new console every 5-6 years...
Why do people think we're about to get a Switch Pro when a new console is less than 2 years away?
Re: You Can't Purchase Ultra Street Fighter II From The US eShop Right Now
From the UK so this hasn't effected me
I also got the shoddy street fighter collection that has a few of the games in one.
Only game that's half decent is the very last game, 3rd Strike. But even that is a shell of its arcade version.
Re: What Are Your Favourite Switch Online SNES And NES Games? Nintendo Wants To Know
None of them.
The service is a joke.
Re: Feature: Our Predictions For Nintendo's E3 2021 Direct
@Bizaster it's totally ridiculous.
All this place does is stoke rumors, it's mostly because of this outlet that Switch Pro rumours go so far.
Some shoddy 3rd rate leak gets dropped on the Switch Pro and this outlet runs with it like it was announced by Miyamoto himself.

Re: Shin Megami Tensei V Release Date Seemingly Leaked Ahead Of Nintendo's E3 Direct
@COVIDberry you see.
You are right when you say that SMT commands a small dedicated fanbase.
So why then, if you only have a small dedicated fanbase, would you want their attention drawn to other bigger games due in the same month?
Because you need to look at this from the other side, many of those SMT fans will purchase Pokemon games too.
But it runs deeper than just that, lets say a 14 year old loves his JRPGs and is a huge SMT and Pokemon fan.
His birthday is in November, which game do you think the parents are going to buy him?
Also if you think the above example is anecdotal, you've essentially proven my point about people's lack of understanding around how marketing works.
Re: Shin Megami Tensei V Release Date Seemingly Leaked Ahead Of Nintendo's E3 Direct
And literally LOL at everyone who thinks the sale of Pokemon or any other big game won't effect the sales of SMT because "different demographic".
Thats ridiculous...
I mean, you one can't except everyone to have a sense of how marketing works, but LOL...
Re: Shin Megami Tensei V Release Date Seemingly Leaked Ahead Of Nintendo's E3 Direct
@gamering oh yeah and this...
This is a gutsy move by the developers, very gutsy. A game like this, unless its got Final Fantasy level marketing attached to it, will not match up well against bigger games due to come around that time.
Re: Shin Megami Tensei V Release Date Seemingly Leaked Ahead Of Nintendo's E3 Direct
This is one of those, "it was announced so long ago, that I've completely lost interest now" games.
Unfortunately I'm just not interested anymore, I've had my fill of JRPG games on the Switch (and then some) since this was announced.
I'll pass but good news for anyone who still cares.

@SwitchForce this move was idiotic on more than just that level but we'll have to wait and see how it all plays out for them.
Re: Nintendo Switch Has Now Sold More Than 20 Million Units In Japan
This isn't a surprise.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Think The "Switch Pro" Will Actually Be Called?
If it actually exists It'll be called "The Nintendo Switch On",
Because Nintendo will try and give us some shtick about how It'll turn everyone ON to gaming or whatever.
It's gonna be stupid, we all know it.

Re: Nintendo Reminds Us The Switch Online Service Now Has Over 100 Classic Games
I'm not a fan of NSO, it's lacking in so many areas but i can't really argue that all these games are good value for money.
At £18 a year, for 100 games, i mean even if i low ball all the games and say their all worth £2 each, both the SNES and NES games.
Thats still £200 in value for the access to the free games for only £18 a year.
Like i said, not a fan of NSO and even if i don't care for those games, that is still ridiculous value for money.

Re: Talking Point: When Was The Last Time A Game Cracked Your Top Five?
In the last year and a half in fact, Witcher 3.
I had it on PC for years but i never actually got into it until i could play it portable.
It's my number 1 game of all time along with Skyrim, it's a coin toss between the two.
3rd favourite game of all time is Breath of the Wild, so that also broke my top 10 too.

Look im all on board the Capcom train but it took them 4 years to do something, compared with the support they gave the 3DS and the Wii U, they still have some work to do in my eyes.
