Re: Rare Blastoise Pokémon Card Sells For $360k, Whilst A First Edition TCG Box Fetches $408k

Razer

I have a whole bunch of first editions, some i know will fetch upwards of 10k but im going to hold off.

Also to those who are wondering why people spend so much money on this, collecting these things go beyond a hobby for some people.

Also that is a huge investment because that card is ridiculously rare, rarer than the first edition Char card, in 10 years time the card will be worth double that amount.

Also look at old Baseball cards, an original Babe Ruth card would make you tens of millions.

Re: Switch Ranked Greatest Handheld Of All Time By UK Newspaper The Guardian

Razer

Well that's a bit preemptive, it could be, but that's honestly yet to be seen. The Switch is good, damn good even.

But it hasn't been around long enough to be the best yet, i mean in terms of longevity, if we're counting till when this statement was made, the Switch falls far short.

The DS had a much bigger library of games and one could even make an argument for the 3DS library actually being better than the Switch.

Given more time then yeah i think this would be a fair statement to make but for now, i say the DS probably holds that distinction.

Re: Kingdoms Of Amalur: Re-Reckoning Is Coming To Switch With DLC Included

Razer

Lol no way i would pay more than £15 for this game, This was a decent game but i think the train for this has long since passed.

At this stage the game is really old, it's not even last gen anymore, it's the gen before. Even when it came out it didn't look as good as other games that came out around the same time.

This game should have dropped in that 2018 window when we were getting these type of "late life Xbox 360/PS3 action RPG ports" like Dark Souls, Dragons Dogma, Skyrim ect...

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Members Get Free Trial Of Dead Cells In Europe Next Week

Razer

Put 75 hours into this game.

This is up there with Hollow Knight and Hades as the best Metroidvania games ever made.

I would put Ori 1 and 2 there too but the games are far too short.

Hollow Knight = 80 - 100 hours
Dead Cells = 80 - 100 hours
Hades = 80 - 100 hours.

Both Ori games combined come to less than 50 hours and each game costs the same as two of the above combined.

Re: Capcom Says Monster Hunter Rise's 'Friend List' Slowdown Will Be Fixed In Time For Launch

Razer

@Ganner yeah i didn't actually play any of the previous games before World but honestly, that's a different type of game entirely, I'm actually considering getting MHGU just to try it out before Rise, so i can say I'm no stranger to the series.

So for me I'm coming in totally new (to this version of MH), it took me a good few attempts of giving up and coming back until it finally clicked for me.

I do however need to switch both the LZ+L & RZ+R around though because using LZ to run was annoying me. With that change i can get around much more easily, run up walls with my wirebug ect... it took a good few attempts to get it down though so maybe you should try fiddling with the controls too.

Edit: had to put in reference to having played World but i don't think that counts, it's way too different.

Re: Hideki Kamiya Hopes To Share An Update About Bayonetta 3 At Some Point In 2021

Razer

Hopefully he'll admit that they restarted development on Bayonetta 3 in early 2019 and used the assets they had already developed by that point to make Astral Chain.

Bayonetta 3 was announced in 2017 but not Astral Chain, then we don't hear anything about Bayonetta but get news about a random exclusive game in start 2019, turns out to be in the EXACT same genre as Bayonetta.

Yeah nothing fishy about that.

Re: Hideki Kamiya Hopes To Share An Update About Bayonetta 3 At Some Point In 2021

Razer

@talocaca well the thing is, Nintendo actually came out and said they had to restart development on MP4 in beginning of 2019 so the delay on that is actually understandable.

It's not like when they announced it in 2017, they knew it would be canned and restarted in 2019. They had no clue so you can't fault them for that.

Bayonetta 3 is an entirely different story. I have my own thoughts on that and what's happened with that.

Re: Nintendo Switch Took 87% Of Japan's Console Market in 2020

Razer

@Clyde_Radcliffe Yes they did dominate Japan during the NES and SNES lifetimes but consider this:

Would the SNES be as good as it was if it didn't have competition from the Genesis (Megadrive here)?

I doubt it, I'm not saying Nintendo wouldn't have delivered some great experiences but i doubt Nintendo would have tried so hard if it was just them and nobody else.

Competition is important because it means the consumer gets more choices and because those companies are competing, the products will be better too.

Re: The Switch Has Been The Top Console In The US For 25 Months In A Row

Razer

@LUIGITORNADO 2-3? It had 1 good exclusive and that wasn't even made by Nintendo AND it isn't even a proper exclusive. Just a Console exclusive.

Hades was genuinely the ONLY good exclusive (console exclusive) game the Switch got last year.

Now to be fair, Hades is one hell of a good game, it's easy to see why it was a firm GOTY contender, but it didn't have the legs to carry a whole console for an entire year.

To be honest even BOTW couldn't of done what it did for the Switch in its first year if it wasn't for Mario Odyssey.

Re: Nintendo Switch Took 87% Of Japan's Console Market in 2020

Razer

I've been thinking about this and Sony's lack of attempt on the Japanese Market may have long term negative consequences for Nintendo.

Nintendo have always and will always concentrate on making games that appeal to their own market first, their own market is their priority.

With Sony slowly fading into obscurity in Japan, will this mean Nintendo may not try as hard? I hope not but it's always a problem when one company has a monopoly in one region.

They get complacent, as a Nintendo fan, there's one thing i know about Nintendo... they suffer from complacency way too often.

Re: Preview: Monster Hunter Rise Feels Like A Glorious Homecoming For The Series, Not A Side-Story

Razer

@SimoneBelmont i think the main draw here has to be portability.

Sure you got some solid 3rd party games but portability needs to be a key thing for you otherwise you may feel a bit duped.

You'll get some who only play in docked but those are people who buy Nintendo consoles for their exclusives.

If you buy a Switch, it can't just be for the exclusives, because while they are good, it may not fully justify your purchase.

Being able to play:

Skyrim
Witcher 3
Dark Souls
Dragon Dogma
Diablo 3
Doom (2016 and eternal)
Possibly the best Assassin's Creed (black flag)

Plus all the good indie games and exclusives that are available.

And many many more 3rd parties, in portable.

If that doesn't appeal to you. If you only play on a TV/computer screen and you see no benefits in portability.

Then yeah you bagged the wrong horse.

Re: Ex-Halo Composer 'Would Love' To Work With Nintendo If Master Chief Joins Smash Ultimate

Razer

@JayJ it probably has something to do with the fact that Master Chef has never featured on any Nintendo platform and Solid Snake has.

Maybe if we ever had a Halo game then there would be reason to put Halo characters in Smash, but as it stands. We've never had a Halo game and it's unlikely we ever will.

In fact it might even be unlikely to ever be released even on a Microsoft platform. Let alone Nintendo. I believe the next installation is in development hell.

Re: Preview: Monster Hunter Rise Feels Like A Glorious Homecoming For The Series, Not A Side-Story

Razer

@Jeronan that's more true than you actually know, most developers won't commit long term to Nintendo until they know there will be long time stability in the company, something that eludes Nintendo a lot.

They are a hitter and misser, sometimes they hit a good idea and sometimes they hit duds...

both developers and investors have started to see that trend and if Nintendo wants proper 3rd party support where 3rd actually have dedicated teams to develop games for Nintendo's hardware like most did for Nintendo's handheld line of consoles. Which for some odd reason hasn't been carried over to the Switch.

Nintendo needs to repeat the success of the Switch with their next console before we really start seeing proper support again.

Re: Animal Crossing Nominated For New York Game Awards' GOTY, Will Be Co-Hosted By Reggie Fils-Aimé

Razer

@Charinzardon The problem is, as good as Xenoblade is, it's more than 10 years old now, developed more than 12 years ago, can't even run in HD today, because the "remake" wasn't remade on an entirely new engine, it was made on the same engine they used to make the game on the Wii, they just upgraded that engine (for some strange reason, they didn't upgrade it to play HD games...)

Hence why a game that was actually developed in 2007, can't run in HD in 2020.

It's not really a remake for that reason, technically its an upscaled port.

They don't give awards for upscaled ports.

Re: Our Switch Ports Will Keep Getting Better, Says Conversion Specialist Virtuos

Razer

@WaveWitch everyone's circumstances are different, i work on the canals and i spend 80% of my time on my canal boat as it's easier for me to get to work.

I own a PS4 but my house is too far from the canal. So for me, portability is literally 80+% of the way i play video games.

And furthermore, even before i started working on the canal, my gaming preference had shifted away from being stuck in one place just to play my games. Portability has always been an important factor to me. More so now.

Re: Best Of 2020: How Nintendo, Pokémon And Japanese Culture Shaped Global Tastes Through Pure Invention

Razer

@SwitchForce no actually nobody really forgets that, it gets mentioned plenty of times. Every conversation or topic that involves Japan and Gaming, mentions the fact that Nintendo saved Gaming at some point, I've used it hundreds of times myself.

But that doesn't mean we need to be at awe at everything Japanese, yes they've made some great things. And did Gaming better than anyone.

But they are terrible at taking advice from other countries and they are failing in a crazy amount of other area's which they honestly need to swallow their ridiculous pride and start looking to foreign investment for help with some of their domestic short comings.

They are ridiculously Conservative and the way women and minorities are treated sometimes is straight out of the 1960s.

Yes, they've saved gaming, yet because of their biggest failure, their financial failings, they lost nearly a decade of progress, with their economy even shrinking in the late late 90s.

Great at making video games but terrible at counting money. We can look to them for inspiration when it comes to the fun in your life, games, anime ect... but when it comes to everything else.

Look elsewhere.

Re: Best Of 2020: How Nintendo, Pokémon And Japanese Culture Shaped Global Tastes Through Pure Invention

Razer

@zool i was going to say this.

They are actually behind in quite a few areas, the ones you mentioned being their foremost shortcomings in technology, but they also lack in many other business areas, like for example, they are not good with finances, their banks are not world renowned, they lack many natural resources, at their core, they would be a very poor country if not for international trade.

Re: Best Of 2020: Moon Studios On Ori And The Will Of The Wisps' Journey From Xbox To Switch

Razer

@ChaosBadger777 the games are worth the entry fee but honestly, you are right to be slightly apprehensive.

I've completed the first game and I've purchased the second already, not played it yet but I'll get around to it soon.

Now the issue i had with the first game is how short it is, the game was great but i beat it in a little over 20 hours, and i did EVERYTHING possible, i purchased the game for £20 so as far as I'm concerned, it only JUST made back it's value in game time.

While it was enjoyable, you can spend less money and get a much longer enjoyable experience, like Hollow Knight, is £15 and is an 80 hour game at least (other games like Dead Cells, Hades, Into The Breach, all come to mind, cost less and have more content).

I've heard the second game is much like the first game in length, maybe slightly longer but at most you maybe able to get 30 hours out of it.

I mean thats good enough to warrant the cost of admission but really only just about, in terms of the quality of content, it's good. But in terms of quantity, you're not getting enough.

Re: Feature: Year In Review - A Look Back At Nintendo's 2020

Razer

I know this is slightly off topic but the picture made me think of it.

I recently purchased a Switch Lite for my wife's mother, she likes Mario Kart, i wanted to get the MK bundle but it was sold out on Amazon, i was then just about to buy the Switch Lite for £200 without a game and get MK separately for £40, but i found the Animal Crossing bundle for £210, so i got that instead and MK separately. I'll keep Animal Crossing myself for my collection.

In short i just got Animal Crossing for £10 lol.

Edit: no actual interest in playing the game but a Nintendo first party title brand new still wrapped for £10 is too good a deal to pass up on.

Re: Best Of 2020: 1995's Nintendo Was Arrogant And Ahead Of Its Time All At Once

Razer

@Kalmaro yeah that's kinda funny but many analysts at the time predicted that disks would be phased out again and we'd return to cartridges.

Disks at the time could fit more in but thats no longer the case, cartridges can now do just as well, but the difference now is the drivers that run them.

Cartridge drives slots can be 1/10th the size of even the smallest disk drive, imagine if the Switch used disks... it would be too heavy to hold in handheld mode and frankly too big so it wouldn't be possible.

We can actually blame mobile phones for the return of cartridges, because people needed a way to increase the data on their phones and it wouldn't be possible to store everything on a disk - in comes Micro SD cards, as phone technology advanced, so did the need for storage and so did the need to increase cartridge capacity.

Hence why cartridges have made a come back.
