Re: Nintendo Reveals Japan's Best-Selling Switch Games Of 2020

Razer

I was going to ask how Splatoon 2 made it on this list, but then I saw Mario Party higher up the list and figured that I wouldn't bother myself on the why, because it'll just hurt my head.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not sure about Mario Party, I prefer portability in my games, but Splatoon is great.

I just don't think it's "top 10 sales" great, after more than 3 years on the market.

Re: Doom Eternal For Switch Will No Longer Receive A Physical Release

Razer

@BreathingMiit Based on the overwhelming negative response to the digital only schtick, which will have driven demand down even further, I doubt they'll recoup even half of those lost pre orders.

Based on that, I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if they either cancel it altogether or shelf it until the Pro is released, if it exists.

Re: Doom Eternal For Switch Will No Longer Receive A Physical Release

Razer

@Kochambra I would love to hear exactly how "the looming presence of Microsoft" caused this company to make one of their upcoming ports, digital only.

Because you say it's foolish not to think this, but it logically makes absolutely no sense why "the looming presence of Microsoft" would cause Bethesda to make this game digital only.

Not only is it in no way logical, it's actually quite foolish to even consider that lol.

Re: Nintendo Switch Achieves Its Best October Sales To Date In The US

Razer

@johnvboy @westman98

here I'll put some numbers up for you guys.

In March 2017 the PS4 was on the market for 3 years and 3 months, it had amassed a sales total of 70 million consoles sold by end of 2017, on market for 3 years and 11 months.

The PS4 now has lifetime sales figures of 113 million units sold. In the 3 years and 8 months since the Switch launched, the PS4 has sold 39 million consoles since the Switch launched.

That's a 35% drop in sales, now you could try and say that the PS4 had reached it's peak (the same is true of the Switch, which will also cause the sales to drop).

But I would argue that the 35% drop in PS4 sales was down to the Switch. Which released midway through the PS4's lifespan... The same way the PS5 is releasing midway through the Switch's.

If the Switch had an obvious effect on the PS4 sales numbers, you genuinely have to be naive to believe the PS5 won't effect the Switch's when the circumstances are EXACTLY the same.

Honestly... Just think about it.

@westman98 so either the PS4 sales dropped because it reached it's peak in 2017 (Which is about where the Switch is) or the Switch effected its sales.

Because 70 million by end of 2017 in 3 years and 11 months... Then 39 million in 3 year's and 8 months is a drop no matter how you look at it.

Whatever you attribute that drop in sales, it'll happen to the Switch too.

Re: Nintendo Switch Achieves Its Best October Sales To Date In The US

Razer

@Nehalem I mean... Another way to look at this is the other side... If you think the PS5 won't impact the Switch's sales...

Tell me why then, did the Switch impact the PS4 sales? Because it did. I mean if the Switch's sales are not effected by the PS5 then surely the PS4 should have been left unaffected by the Switch... But that wasn't the case.

Re: Nintendo Switch Achieves Its Best October Sales To Date In The US

Razer

@Nehalem you are not so wrong, I mean to older gamers like us, sure... but you see, we are the minority here. you may not see it that way but it's just a simple case of that's just how it is.

Imagine this: a mother who has two 14 and 16 year old children, it's coming up to Christmas and both want a new console.

She hears all this noise about the latest new gaming console and you know what that noise is? It's the PS5/XBox Series X. It was the Nintendo Switch but not anymore, we can safely say that the new consoles have arrived. With it, a lot of noise that will attract Christmas shoppers. Particularly mother's.

She also can kill two birds with one stone because she can get both her son's one console to share. Which they can.

You see the problem is... Parents don't think like we do.

And if you think we out number them then you are simply flat out wrong.

So ultimately we may not see them as competing but the fact that a mother will choose to buy her son's a PS5 or the XBOX over a Nintendo Switch in the coming holiday seasons, means they are definitely competing. And there will be millions more mother's making that choice than us older gamers making ours.

Re: Nintendo Switch Achieves Its Best October Sales To Date In The US

Razer

This is good news, I dunno how much longer this will keep up, I can see Nintendo still having a good holiday regardless of the fact that the next generation has kicked off, purely because of availability, PS5's going to have limited availability until at least after Christmas which should give Nintendo the edge for a few more months.

But by mid next year I do see sales somewhat falling off a cliff, especially if Pro rumors don't pan out. Even with a pro though, they'll likely only be able to attract existing Switch owners from that point, i could be wrong but with the way the new consoles are looking, I'll put my money on this scenario playing out.

But like I said, I could be wrong, 2021 will be an interesting year for gaming though.

Edit: even if that scenario plays out and Nintendo can only attract existing Switch owners to purchase a Pro (if there is a Pro in the works), then they'll still get 40-60% of existing Switch owners to upgrade, quite easily I think, which would give them a lifetime console sale of anywhere from 100m-130m.

Which would be a total success.

Re: Switch Hardware Sales Reach 68.3 Million, Now Nintendo's Second Best-Selling Home Console Ever

Razer

I think they will get 90-100m lifetime sales. (Lifetime being end of 2023, which is normally the length of their consoles) - so to get that they would need at least 22m sales, which would be 11m per year for the next 2 years. Which is around 800k per month give or take. That would get them to 90m, they would need 32m sales to get to 100m by end of 2023, which is 16m sales per year for the next 2 years.

I think they could do it but it would depend heavily on their games, they Switch Pro and how well the PS5 and Xbox Series X does In their first 2 years.

Re: Video: New Monster Hunter Rise Gameplay Shows Off A Great Sword Hunt

Razer

So for the longest time, I've been hating Capcom for their lack of effort, giving us old over priced ports of last gen games, I always wondered what happened to the support they gave the 3DS.

But it seems they finally came through and are (hopefully) about to live up to expectations with this game.

I'm quite hyped for this.

Re: Soapbox: An Ode To The 3DS, Nintendo's Workhorse Console

Razer

@LeighDappa to be fair, it was a relatively short window, the first year of it's release was a bit shaky and it didn't really pick up in terms of quality of game's until mid 2013, it then had a solid 3.5 years until end of 2016/start of 2017 when you could clearly see the focus being shifted to the Switch (NX at the time).

I know many people like yourself who missed that window.

Re: Soapbox: An Ode To The 3DS, Nintendo's Workhorse Console

Razer

Possibly the best handheld only gaming device ever made, it took everything good with the DS and made it better. (Until the Switch lite)

It's also the sole reason why Nintendo didn't go the way of Sega during the Wii U dark days. The best of Nintendo's last generation gaming experiences are only available on the 3DS, especially considering most the one's on the Wii U have been released on the Switch, if you want the best Nintendo games from last generation not on the Switch, you'd need a 3DS.

Re: Control's eShop Page Reminds Us About Harsh Realities Of A Cloud-Based Future

Razer

Not sure why they're even bothering with this, judging by the negative feedback, it doesn't seem like the right market for this game.

Just from a business point of view, I'd like to know who suggested this would be a good fit for a portable gaming device.

The way this game is offered (via the cloud) essentially works counterintuitive to the way the Switch is used by 50-60% of it's user base.

When you also factor in that most actual gamers will use the Switch as a second device and wouldn't purchase this game on the Switch as portability is hardly an option, you're basically thinning your target right down to families, who also won't purchase this game because it isn't the target market at all.

From a business point of view I genuinely see no reason for this game to even be released. It has no market on the Switch.

Re: Frame Rate And Resolution For Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity Demo Revealed

Razer

Cancelled my pre order after the demo.

I'll wait for a fix but more than likely it's a permanent pass for me. I didn't actually like the gameplay at all. Performance to one side, the controls and the movement wasn't fluid.

The camera was not intuitive and half the time I was attacking things I couldn't see.

Yeah I'll pass on this one

Re: Nintendo Shadow-Drops Another Nintendo Direct Mini, Watch It Here

Razer

@BabyYoshi12 Zelda is a Nintendo IP but they leased that particular game to a 3rd party developer to develop for the (in this instance, Team Ninja).

Also you might be interested to know that Bandai Namco actually helped develop Smash Bro's Ultimate too.

Also I'm sure you know that Nintendo allowed Square to use Mario for Mario and Rabbids.

So yeah this does happen a lot actually.

Re: Nintendo Gives Xenoblade Chronicles Some Love With 7-Minute Relaxation Video

Razer

@Debo626 I don't agree, they didn't add enough to the game for me to want to spend more money on it again.

At the end of the day, it's the exact same game I've played twice before with minor improvements and a couple of bells and whistles.

I also remember reading this isn't a remaster at all, it's an upscaled port of the original Wii game.

It even basically says as much on the Wiki, it's got revamped graphics and art style but overall it's not that different from the original Wii game.

I mean look if you think it's worth the price, then by all means, knock yourself out, but why would I pay full price for this game and expect old EA ports to cost less than they do?

If these guys can release a 10 year old game for the 3rd time at full retail cost, then surely EA can do the same right? I personally think both are in the wrong and I don't buy this rubbish that this game is "remade from the ground up" like some people are trying to convince themselves.
