Re: Feature: Our Verdict On Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Update 2.0, The "Last Major Free Content"

RQuinain

I played ACNH consistently for over a year, which I pride myself in considering most of my old playgroup fell off after a few months. But I, too, fell off HARD after that year (and interest was already waning from summer 2020 - spring 2021).

This update is JUST what I needed, and I totally agree, I'm approaching the game in a lot healthier and more moderated manner. I've resolved to NOT time travel anymore, instead letting things happen on a natural timeline (like I did for maybe the first month of playing the game lol). It's been a lot more easygoing, relaxed, and I don't feel the pressure that I used to of needing to have everything done/collected... because let's face it, with all the new items they dropped, it's basically impossible lol. So I've accepted it.

My love for this game has been rekindled. I'm so in love with the update and my island again and I'm excited for the future of the game. Fingers crossed that even though this is the last MAJOR update, there will still be smaller ones along the way!

Re: Reminder: Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Museum Day Stamp Rally Event Starts Today

RQuinain

I also found this event a bit underwhelming. I like the idea of it though. Would have been nice if there were extra tasks, or you could involve your villagers. Maybe have an extra prize each time you bring one of your villagers to see the museum and get their cards stamped, like a referral? Etc etc. Idk, I think there's a lot of things they could have done with this to make it a bit more engaging.

Re: Feature: Why We Think Crazy Redd Will Bring His Artwork To Animal Crossing: New Horizons

RQuinain

People have been way too alarmist about the missing content from ACNH compared to previous games. We got Zipper through a free event, and we're going to get Leif later this month through another free event. I

I think it's 100% plausible and I also firmly believe that nearly ALL of the missing special characters will be making a return to the game, whether as an event character or as a permanent addition to the game. I completely agree that the upper level of the museum is going to be built eventually, and my personal theory is that in addition to paintings returning, they're going to bring back the custom museums from New Leaf and possibly have Celeste as a permanent fixture of the museum (but still have her wander outside if there's meteor showers). I also think the upper level is where we'll see Brewster return, if they don't give him his own separate cafe which may or may not be possible. One of the trailers did state that "additional facilities" were planned after all. Granted, it would suck for all the people that put work into their island setups to have to add a new building, but I honestly wouldn't mind the opportunity to mix things up and at least have a returning character back.

I also think the paltry amount of special characters that visit your island randomly is suspicious, and I think it's a good indication that they plan on adding more random visitors (Katrina? Katie/Kaitlin? etc) as permanent parts of the game in future updates. Right now, they literally have almost the bare minimum of special visitors. You got your fish/bug NPCs in CJ and Flick, you got your wallpaper/floor seller in Saharah, you got your shoes/accessories with Kicks. In terms of fetch quest NPCs you have Wisp and Gulliver which makes for a decent starter variety. But I accept it with full confidence that more will be added in the future. I also think there might be an option added to the airport to fly to the city to visit characters like Gracie Grace, Luna, maybe even Mr. Resetti in his new role as rescue operator. That's just speculation though.

I think everyone needs to calm down about the lack of content in ACNH lol. Our favorites are going to return, I'd be willing to bet money on it. Real money, not bells.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Is Retiring After 15 Notable Years At Nintendo of America

RQuinain

@Tasuki The Switch is the best selling console in the U.S. currently, regardless of unlocalized or unported software that it doesn't have yet. Are you still saying it's not giving people what they want? Are the 9 million Switch consoles and millions of software sold since release not what people want? Quantitatively, who are the people asking for these triple AAA titles? I'd like to know, because you seem to think it's a significant amount and that this is, from a business and a fanbase perspective, a significant problem.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Is Retiring After 15 Notable Years At Nintendo of America

RQuinain

@Tasuki Absolutely daft. You're completely ignoring the 10 other people reminding you that Labo and Switch motion controls were in no way a decision made by NoA. What is so hard about that to understand?

You want the president of the American branch of one of the most prolific gaming companies to crap on their own creations, even if he wasn't directly involved in creating them? You don't understand how business works nor how these sorts of companies work. Please go away.

Re: Pokémon GO Cheaters Get A Nasty Surprise In The Latest Update

RQuinain

I know a lot of people that use third party apps to cheat in big cities (I live in Chicago) and I think this update is great for those cheaters. There's never any problem here with finding Pokemon, so it's annoying when people cheat and don't get Pokemon the legitimate way.

However, I do agree that this outlines an inherent problem with playing the app in rural areas. I think Niantic needs to analyze their map of the world within Pokemon Go and perhaps adjust spawn/rarity rates based on population and population density. It might be a lot of work for them but by judging by the comments in this thread, it would get a lot more people playing while not changing the experience at all for people that live in populated areas.

In other news, what do they mean by these Pokemon will "behave differently?" Lol curious.

Re: Poll: Which 2015 Nintendo Blockbusters Should Have amiibo Support?

RQuinain

I'm not sure how Amiibo can be tastefully incorporated into Zelda U, but an idea I have was to have some sort of minigame (one of those timewasters like fishing and whatnot) that you could scan Amiibo characters into to play as within the minigame. And you can unlock certain prizes or costumes or whatever depending on which character you play as.

But in the end, I feel like a majority of games will just be compatible in the marginal way that MK8, Hyrule Warriors, etc were, in that they unlock small gifts or prizes within the game.

Re: Talking Point: New Nintendo 3DS, Operation Faceplate NA and the Bigger Picture

RQuinain

I don't see why they can't just discontinue the original 3DS XL and release both the New versions in North America. That way, you have the 2DS, New 3DS, and New 3DS XL in stores. The naming convention is confusing with two "3DS XL" models in stores, might as well remove the old 3DS XLs and just have the "New" line become the new standard 3DS models, with of course, the 2DS model available for those on a budget.

The way I see it? Having both the old XL and New XL in stores is pointless. People aren't going to opt for an outdated system just to save $25. When given the choice between the old XL and the New XL, people are going to go for the New one, because it's new. It's the damn name of the system.

SO, why not just clear out XL stock and make way for the standard New 3DS. That way, you have three Nintendo handhelds on store shelves with their own viable features:
-2DS - The budget system for those that don't particularly care for 3DS.
-New 3DS - For those that desire a smaller system and the ability to customize.
-New 3DS XL - For those that want a bigger system and bigger screens.

Can someone please tell me how that lineup of systems is NOT more desirable than the current lineup of the 2DS, 3DS XL, and New 3DS XL??

Re: Card Format amiibo Confirmed to be Heading our Way This Year

RQuinain

I'm fine with this. It's a good way for people to get the Amiibos they want to actually play with. Although I play with all of my Amiibos, I collect them more for the purpose of collecting, since they're figures. If I just bought them for the functionality, then I would definitely go for the cards instead since they would definitely be cheaper.

As long as they don't see the cards as a lazy way to release the rest of the Smash Bros roster... they honestly have nothing to lose by releasing both card and figure versions of the Smash Bros roster tbh.

Re: Nintendo of America's Damon Baker Explains the New Nintendo 3DS XL Decision and Desire to Engage With the Community

RQuinain

In my opinion, releasing a fully customizable 3DS with faceplates caters perfectly to the goal of "expanding the user base"... do people see how obsessive people get with iPhone cases? It's like a fashion statement for iPhone owners. Our generation today is all about customization. A customizable 3DS works perfectly to cater to that casual audience that focuses on their mobile devices over console gaming.

And yeah, I agree with some people that, honestly, if they were that concerned about confusing the user base, then just stop producing the original XL. The New 3DS hardware is far superior to the original, and honestly, people who are buying a 3DS for the first time should definitely buy the New 3DS as it's the definitive 3DS experience. Plus the stupid naming convention is confusing as it is. "I got a New 3DS XL!" Are they talking about a new standard XL model or the New 3DS XL model? It's silly. If they released the standard New 3DS and discontinued the original 3DS XL, then you'd have the 2DS, New 3DS, and New 3DS XL on store shelves, and that way, you can just refer to the New 3DS/3DS XL models as simply the 3DS and 3DS XL.

I'm not a businessman but when the outcry is this bad at a decision Nintendo has made, I think it's worth playing devil's advocate for yourself from a business standpoint and listen to what the fans have to say.

Re: New Nintendo 3DS Launch Sales in the West Surpass 3DS XL Equivalents

RQuinain

@schizor Definitely agree. Imo the DS Lite was definitely the best in terms of a physical revision, but the New 3DS XL trumps all the other revisions not necessarily in terms of its physical appearance (the normal New 3DS probably wins that title even over the DS Lite, but we ain't getting that in NA, are we...) but in terms of its functionality. I've never played my 3DS with such renewed fervor, and I'm definitely playing the hell out of Super Smash Bros like I never did before, especially after getting the Wii U version. The New 3DS is fantastic.

Now, if we can only get the standard New 3DS and those damn faceplates...
