Re: Sony CEO Drums Up Hype For Nintendo's Zelda Movie

Quiet2down

@rjejr AC is bad because the film focused too much on the wrong era. People who play AC games enjoy them for the ability to play in historical era's. That's where most of the enjoyment stems.

The modern aspect, just serves to help flesh out the backstory. It's the least interesting part of the games. The problem with the AC film is too much focus on the modern day world, which in turn made it boring to watch.

It's like the people behind the scenes didn't understand where the bulk of the enjoyment comes from and said "You know? Lets not focus on the idea of what's like to be an assassin with a hidden blade during historical events. Instead let's focus on making a modern day exposition dump film"

Re: Metacritic Reveals "The Worst Video Games Of 2023"

Quiet2down

@FishyS When it comes to the Mario movie, I was mainly pointing out people see 59% and instantly think critics having out it for the film.

When you break down and read the reviews at most critics gave it a mild pass. It's not as bad as users were making out to be, but just that 59% alone was enough to set off hardcore fans.

It makes critics out to be way worse than actually taking to time digest and read what they are saying.

Re: Metacritic Reveals "The Worst Video Games Of 2023"

Quiet2down

@FishyS Metacritc much like Rotten Tomatoes is a poor indicator. Too many people rely on these sites as an extreme spectrum for ratings.

Case and point the Mario movie. People see the 59% RT score and go wild. It much easy to see a simple score and go ballistic than to actually read through reviews and break down everything.

These two sites are awful imo.

Re: Sea Of Stars Developer Sabotage Replacing 'The Completionist' NPC

Quiet2down

@Slim_in_Blue Eh...I hate to be that guy and im not going to win any fans, but the majority of content creators, especially in the gaming scene are replaceable.

Sadly alot of non problematic youtubers are small, and given just how terrible youtube is in general, the good ones get out shined by the bad ones who are simply too big.

Re: Fan-Made 'Link's Awakening DX HD' Port Taken Down By Nintendo

Quiet2down

I'm going to look at this from another angle and say this was all planned. For one, youtube is well known platform, so why even choose it?

I'm going to hazard to guess the creator got their 15 minutes of fame, and now the game will be seen by more than thanks to media, and sought out (like it will even be hard to find since people with a copy will upload it somewhere)

In the end I say the creator is the winner here. In that case. Go him!

Re: Hands On: Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown Royally Delivers On Switch

Quiet2down

@OldManHermit @OldManHermit Yeah, but the game sacrificed innocence in an attempt to be edgy. This is why Sands of Time funnily enough, stood the test of time. The same can't be said for the sequels.

Warrior Within hasn't aged well. From its art direction, music, and story it's forever stuck in the era it came from. Wheres you can pick up Sands of Time any day of the week and just enjoy a pleasant ride.

Re: Fortnite's Dev Really Wants A Crossover With Nintendo But Hasn't Had Any Luck

Quiet2down

@locky-mavo I tell you my reason. Fortnite has no soul. That may seem weird to say but let me explain.

Take a game like Smash Bros and compare it to Fortnite. One is a love letter to various characters since the dawn of gaming. The other is just pop culture references.

There is no theme or consistency with Fortnite. It's random without care. Just look at some of the skins for proof.

Random Celebs
Random Movies
Random TV Shows
Random comic book characters
It's just whatever that can be sold as skins. Its all arbitrary.

Why should Nintendo put it's characters in a game along side Peter Griffin from Family guy? You know that show that hasn't been popular for years, and relies on lowbrow gags filled with content aimed at adults.

Fortnite is soulless.

Again, Smash bros as example. Sakurai carefully selected it's guest characters who had the biggest impact on gaming history. They are video games characters who have cemented their place in history and are iconic. Theres ton of easter eggs related to gaming culture as a whole.

From Street Fighter to Final Fantasy to Kingdom Hearts and so on. That is someone who cares about what goes inside his work. Fortnite doesn't care. It just wants whatever it can touch.

Re: Talking Point: What's Next For The Super Smash Bros. Series?

Quiet2down

@Atomic77 Personally I wouldn't want it to be open world. At best juggling making an open world and fighting party game would make one part of the game will have to suffer.

But a semi-open sandbox that you can interact with other characters in a mini story mode would be fun. It would probably be someone new behind the wheel to bring back story mode.

That passion part of Sakurai seems gone now. World of Light was such a stepdown from Subspace.

Re: Feature: The Best Smash Bros. Ultimate Character Trailers, Ranked By You

Quiet2down

I'll take the unpopular opinion and say Bowser Jr. had the best trailer.

The atmosphere being dark and moody, with the characters looking towards a potential dangerous threat; Then Bowser Jr. comes in swinging hard. Knocking everyone around like pins in a bowling alley.

Watching Mario charge in only to go "Oh crap!" when baby brings out the drills and starts depleting Mario's shield without mercy was excellent.

Just the idea that a child is kicking everyone's butt is hilarious to me.

Re: Random: Waluigi Designer Shares Scrapped Character Art Of "Walpeach"

Quiet2down

@Not_Soos I'm glad she was scrapped because the idea just isn't interesting at all.

Wario started out a doppleganger for Mario, but slowly fazed out of that 80 - 2000's need of making every good guy have an evil clone trend. They usually die off because their purpose must involve their good counterpart. It begins and ends with them.

Wario here is an exception. He managed to survive as having enough distinct traits that's he not consider an anti-Mario anymore.

Wario can exist without Mario and thus is free from that bondage so many evil doppelgangers that came and went back in the early years.

The same however can't be said for Waluigi. He was made with one purpose and the character is forever tied with Wario and Luigi. The same fate would have most likely happened to Wapeach too.

Re: Soapbox: Ganondorf's Villainous Intro In Ocarina Of Time Is One Of Gaming's Best

Quiet2down

@Moonwatcher Personally, I think Ganondorf peaked character wise in Wind Waker.

Controversial opinion for sure, but he should have retired after that. He's presence in Twlight Princess felt forced, and worse, took away what could have made Zant a memorable villain.

In BOTW, he's just full on rage mode, and ToTk there is barely anything there.

I like G.dorf, however I'd like a new main antagonist. One of things I liked so much about Majora's Mask, is the fact Majora is so unlike Ganondorf in every way possible.

This showed me Nintendo can make a villain just as memorable as Ganondorf. Just as mysterious and just as terrifying. I was very much interested in Zant as a character. But when he got tossed aside, all I could think was "What a waste."

Re: Poll: What's The Best RPG Starring Mario?

Quiet2down

@the_beaver Can relate. I didn't play the series till last year as I was going to give it a shot for the first time. I played Superstars Saga, and quit after that. While I enjoyed the battle system, it was pretty barebones outside of that for an RPG.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Wins Nintendo GOTY At Golden Joystick Awards 2023

Quiet2down

@sanderev BOTW imo got herald as being innovative of the genre and a lesson others should follow. I disagree with that and much agree with highscore. BOTW did give the freedom to play as you want, but outside of that it still faced the same problems found in other open world games.

I don't think BOTW did enough to separate itself to the point it;s put on a pedestal as an example. Underneath all freedom is the same core issues that plague the genre.

Re: Valve Announces Steam Deck OLED, Says Switch OLED Paved The Way

Quiet2down

@Arcata Yes, the Steam Deck would exist regardless of the Switch. Would it be as we know it now? Probably not. Things are being created, and innovated everyday with or without Nintendo's involvement.

The thing is, from what Im reading from these comments, is people seem to hate the idea of Nintendo copying anything. As if that's some big sin only other gaming companies commit.

Nintendo has copied ideas, and they will do so in the future. As you said copying is not bad, and that I agree. So it shouldn't be bad when N does it as well.

Re: Assassin's Creed Publisher Ubisoft Axes 124 Jobs

Quiet2down

@Poco_Lypso The first few entries were pretty good. But as time went on, Ubisoft milked it to the point of stale. I'm not kidding either.

Within the span of 5 years since the first game, You had 5 entries. An extra 9 if you include the spin-off games. And each entry just became more and more bloated.

Re: Tears Of The Kingdom Continues To Prove That 'Open World Zelda' Is A Best-Selling Formula

Quiet2down

@Arawn93 I don't hate ToTk. I never played it, but BOTW didn't impress me as much I was hoping it would.

I'm not a Zelda superfan, but as someone who's played a ton of open world games, I just didn't get what BOTW did that others failed to do.

The exploration and freedom was fun. But the side content, the story, and rewards for exploration were lacking. I remember finding this cool dungeon after doing a massive puzzle in the open word. Only to find my reward is...A spirit orb.

Re: Wario's New Voice Actor Confirms Role On Social Media

Quiet2down

@Not_Soos That's a wall text so let me just respond to the first paragraph. I never implied nor said N shouldn't have high standards. What Im saying is it's his first day on the job and he's filling big shoes.

It would be one thing if this is was his 3rd or 4th outing. Having the standard that if you're not perfect the first time, then you lose any more chances is what Im calling out as a bit overboard.

It's fine to criticize, it's fine to offer pointers, but not allowing someone a few chances to grow sounds cold in my book. It's not like Charles came in the first day and perfected his voice work. That took years and growth. One should be generous and give the new person a chance.

But let's just agree we have different pov and call it a day.

Re: Wario's New Voice Actor Confirms Role On Social Media

Quiet2down

@SilentHunter382 @LadyCharlie I think people should give him a chance. It's one thing when you are coming into a new role, it's another when you are expected to take over an iconic role.

The pressure is increased. Charles himself wasn't always a pro, but overtime evolved . I think alot of people forget these iconic actors were rough at the start themselves, and only became better as time progressed.

Re: Random: Sakurai Reckons Both Mario Wonder And Spider-Man 2 Are Masterpieces

Quiet2down

@Zuljaras Here is my hot take: Im fine with just an okay story. Why? Truthfully, I find alot of games stories average at best, and mediocre at worst.

So, Im fine if a game is light on story or doesn't have one. I play games to sit back and enjoy myself. Not watch 10 minute cut-scenes of bad acting, terrible dialogue and a half thought out story.

Re: Metal Gear Solid's Launch Trailer Is Full Of Love And Hugs

Quiet2down

@Donutman What complaints? Here? So far on the comments people are just having light fun on a series they grew up with.

MGS series barring 5, is not an open world genre. It's stealth. Back in the day, Metal Gear Solid, and Splinter Cell were the best in that field.

Sadly, stealth games are a thing of the past. But anyways, there is no open world to be found here. It's a linear series, and the gameplay is fun.
