Re: Poll: A Week On, How Do You Feel About the Nintendo Switch?

PotatoTheG

@kenrulei I'm not concerned with the fact that they're charging for online. I want to know if it costs as much or less than something like PS Plus. As it is, the Switch's online service offers substantially less than the PS4 in terms of the free games it offers and the games that have an online mode.

If it's something like 30 or 40 dollars I will be perfectly happy to pay it though. I just wish they could announce a price already.

EDIT: Also worth noting I'm already unhappy with the fact that PS+ is almost mandatory now if you want the most out of your PS4 to begin with. "The competition does it so it's justified!" is a simplified argument, you have to look at how Nintendo is handling this.

Re: Rumour: Fire Emblem Fates Could Be Getting A Nintendo Switch Port

@Syrek24 Are you actually serious? I like the 3DS games (except maybe Birthright), but your logic is so skewed. The old FE games are fine, the only "archaic" ones are the first three, and Gaiden is getting the remake it desperately needs (with the old artstyle you seem to pointlessly criticize no less).

Sales don't indicate quality, and vice-versa. You answered your own question, games like Shadow Dragon simply weren't marketable enough during the DS era. Awakening's boom in popularity is partially attributed to the fact that it was released at the right time, as well as the fact that it's more approachable to newcomers. Another thing that helped FE's boost in popularity was a lot of fanservice, which I personally do not mind, but the fact that it's there is undeniable at this point. (Also your complaints apply to Final Fantasy Tactics, a game similar in nature to the Fire Emblem games, but of course that had name power behind it... although using your logic Tactics would be a flop with these "archaic" elements... just goes to show using sales as an argument is very shallow.)

Compelling story and characters? Really? Even the biggest fans of Awakening and Fates had negative things to say about the plot, a poorly handled mess. Fire Emblem was never a story series to begin with, but if you think somehow Conquest had a more interesting and well written yarn than, say, Genealogy of the Holy War, I don't know what to tell you. Not to mention another big complaint people had about the 3DS games were the one note characters, uninteresting self insert MC's and overeliance on anime tropes. Not to say the cast for 13/14 is bad... but saying they're a step above is... something I really, REALLY disagree with. Moreover, your complaint about "political dialogue" is extremely silly, it was present in the 3DS games as well. It's a war... what do you expect? And honestly, I thought it was pretty cool.

Complaining about music and art style? Again, really? The GBA sprites are beautiful and haven't aged a bit, and they haven't aged to this day. The music is similarly great.

The only points I agree with are permadeath turning people off, and ho hum presentation. Although I prefer substance over style any day, something like FE8 provides to be a compelling game experience to this day. Awakening's abundance of "rout the enemy" missions and completely eliminating strategic elements like the magic triangle was questionable.

Sorry, I know it feels like I'm going round in circles but comments like yours really frustrate me. You're harping on the old FE fans and using exaggerated and even flawed logic to make it seem as if what they like is inferior to what YOU like. With that reasoning, if they can't be considered "real fire emblem fans" then neither can you. I personally disliked FE12 and won't pretend as if the older games are perfect, but all entries in the series have their strengths and flaws. Sorry for the text wall.
