Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Top 5 Nintendo DS Games?

Oubie

My favorite games are all third party games, though I still loved a lot of Nintendo developed games on the DS.

Behold my Top 5:

1. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
2. The World Ends With You
3. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
4. Dragon Quest IX
5. Super Scribblenauts

@ChromaticDracula Try it for sure yes! I would also recommend remapping the jump button from R to A or B. I don't really mind the N64 graphics, it looks bright and clear on my Switch Oled. Maybe it's nostalgia but combined with the remapped modern FPS controls i'm really having a blast 😅

While not ideal, i've remapped the controls and saved them as a preset in the Switch settings menu. Named the preset 'N64 FPS' 😆. Very much playable dual stick versions of Turok, Perfect Dark and GoldenEye this way. In short, swap the control sticks to walk with the left stick and look around with the right stick and ZL>ZR and ZR>ZL to shoot with ZR like most modern shooters.

Re: Feature: Is 'Trails Through Daybreak' The Fresh Beginning The Trails Series Needs?

Oubie

I watched excellent videos about the original Sky trilogy explaining all the lore etc., then started playing Cold Steel 1+2 on PS4, and from then on I played everything on the Switch: Zero, Azure, Cold Steel 3+4 and finally Riverie. I'm very excited for Daybreak!!

I can understand starting with Daybreak as it will be the most modern one and have a new setting, characters as well as quality of life updates to the gameplay and graphical enhancements.

Try the demo and if you enjoy the full game, go back and explore the rich history of the series. Don't force yourself or let the correct order of play prevent you from enjoying Daybreak.

Re: Kuro no Kiseki Coming West As 'Trails Through Daybreak', Out 2024 On Switch

Oubie

Hi Trails fans, I just recently found out about this series and I can't wait to grind my way through most of them. I've (sadly not played but) watched the whole Sky trilogy and was hooked immediately, and will start Cold Steel 1 this weekend. After Cold Steel 2 I'll go on to Zero and Azure before returning to Cold Steel 3 and 4, then proceed with Reverie. See you all in Summer 2024 😄

I bought new physical versions of Cold Steel 1 and 2 for €18 each on PS4 during a sale, but will continue the series on Switch afterwards.

Re: Feature: Games That Got Us Through Tough Times

Oubie

I grew up in a violent home with my father being unpredictable how his mood would be after work or in the mornings. The physical but especially the almost daily mental abuse were hard to deal with, but luckily videogames were my way to escape from reality.

I'm 33 now so back in 2002-2005 my GameCube was my personal safe and happy place with Star Fox Adventures early on, Zelda: The Wind Waker and Paper Mario 2 would also follow as games that felt like they protected me and made me feel seen or heard because I had to make myself invincible to not be noticed and get abused in real life and neither had the courage to stand against the abuse towards my mom. I felt validated for being the hero in those videogames and I could let go of the constant fear I felt during daily life, even just for a moment.

Re: Feature: 16 Tracks That Need To Be In The Mario Kart 8 DLC

Oubie

First of all, i'm excited to see how the original Tour tracks control and if they are inventive and become favorites, regardless of the visuals.

I would love to see more reimagined tracks from Super Circuit like Lakeside Park with the errupting volcano and the rainy Luigi Circuit.

Some additional spooky tracks would be nice, like Ghost Valley 3 from the SNES, Banshee Boardwalk from the N64, Boo Lake or Broken Pier from Super Circuit, and finally perhaps Luigi's Mansion from the DS.

I also really like the tracks on the roads with other vehicles like Mushroom Bridge or Mushroom City from Double Dash, Moonview Highway from Wii or Wuhu Loop from 3DS.

Finally, I hope they remaster some favorites of mine like Daisy Cruiser and Wario Colosseum from Double Dash, Delfino Square and Airship Fortress from DS, Toad's Factory and Maple Treeway from Wii, Shy Guy Bazaar and Wuhu Mountain Loop from 3DS.

A special mention for some additional Bowser's Castles, especially from 64, Wii and 3DS. Rainbow Road 3DS is welcome as well 😁

Re: Round Up: The Mario Golf: Super Rush Reviews Are In

Oubie

So disappointed in the courses of Super Rush. World Tour on 3DS started with 3 'normal' courses via the Castle Club and then had 7 fun Mushroom Kingdom themed courses within the base game. If you bought the DLC for World Tour, it added another 6 courses remade from Mario Golf 64 for a total of 16 courses. Oh well, I'll keep on playing World Tour then and get Super Rush later on when all the free DLC has been added, and with a discount.
