There are 48 new tracks coming to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe over the next two years, as part of the "Booster Course Pack" DLC that was announced in the February 2022 Nintendo Direct. Those 48 tracks will all be remakes of old, beloved tracks — and we've already seen the first wave, which brings 8 new courses and two new cups, the Golden Dash Cup and the Lucky Cat Cup, to the game.
That leaves forty tracks for us to speculate about, and even though forty tracks means that pretty much every single track ever made will be coming to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, we can still hope for a few of our favourites to return...
DK's Jungle Parkway
We might have loathed this course back in the day for the sheer number of times you can fall into water and that lousy cave hairpin turn at the end, and maybe our opinion has been altered by the rosy filter of nostalgia, but we do think DK's Jungle Parkway is a great candidate for an MK8 remake all the same.
The glossy remake of this track for Mario Kart Wii gives us hope that this one's in the pipeline. And speaking of pipelines...
Koopa Cape
Some of Mario Kart 8's best tracks are the ones with waterfalls — Shy Guy Falls, Dolphin Shoals, DK Jungle — so Koopa Cape could be a perfect new addition. It's a fast-paced track thanks to its flooded roads, which speed the player along nicely, but can be the difference between a well-earned 1st place and a disappointing 8th, depending on skill.
The underwater pipe section, complete with echoing audio and music, would be a great place for a little bit of anti-gravity, too!
DK Mountain
DK Mountain, originally from Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, shows signs of some of the DNA that would eventually turn into colossal showpiece tracks like Grumble Volcano and Mount Wario. It borrows elements of DK's Jungle Parkway, too — namely the rickety bridge right at the end, which challenges racers not to blow it at the last second.
This track is pretty simple: Get shot up to the top of a mountain, race down, repeat. But sometimes, simple is actually best for showcasing your mastery of the art of the drift.
Airship Fortress
Made for Mario Kart DS, and more recently re-released as a Mario Kart Tour track, Airship Fortress takes place on Bowser's deadly airship, with players trying to dodge a barrage of Bullet Bills as they wind their way around a twisting stone track with plenty of pitfalls. The music is a total bop, and we'd love to hear a jazzy MK8 remaster.
Kalimari Desert
You either love Mario Kart 64's Kalimari Desert or you hate it, but you can't deny that trains are cool, and this one sure does have a train. Not much else, of course — just the vast expanses of desert with the occasional railway crossing — but why would you want to take away from the glorious majesty of a train?
We'd love to see this one gussied up with modern Mario Kart 8 visuals. Maybe even an anti-gravity bit somewhere? Let us go inside the train, perhaps? We've already got planes (Sunshine Airport) and automobiles (Toad's Turnpike), so let's complete the trilogy already!
Moo Moo Farm
Arguably, Mario Kart 8's Moo Moo Meadows — in itself a remake of the Wii's track — is better than Moo Moo Farm. It's a similar concept (animals on the track! Oh no!) but polished up to make a more interesting race.
But as we've said before, sometimes a track's simplicity pares things down to what's truly important: How good you are at Mario Kart. After all, one of the best tracks of all time is Baby Park, which is just a simple oval. Remake Moo Moo Farm in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe style, combine a few of the elements from Moo Moo Meadows, and you've got yourself an all-time classic on your hands.
Waluigi Pinball
Poor Waluigi is the forgotten middle child of Nintendo's cast of characters, and he deserves more recognition — especially for the fantastic track that is Waluigi Pinball. First introduced in Mario Kart DS, this course shrinks down the racers to fit them on a giant pinball table, complete with big balls threatening to wipe them out at any moment.
This one's a fantastic candidate for anti-grav trickery, given how twisty and turny it already is.
Maple Treeway
One of the most beautiful tracks on Mario Kart Wii, Maple Treeway is a crash-course in the trickiest parts of Mario Kart. Mastering tight turns, avoiding cliff edges and Wiggler-shaped obstacles, and knowing exactly when to use your power-ups are key to making it through this one unscathed.
Unlike a lot of other Mario Kart tracks, this track isn't really based on anything in particular — in fact, it's barely Mario-themed at all, taking place instead in an autumnal forest, winding around the treetops and leaf piles and ending with a bouncy net stretched between the branches.

I also want Mario Kart 7's Rainbow Road in there - as a three lap race, not just a point to point run - mainly because the theme for it smacks me in the feels EVERY TIME it gets to the N64 Rainbow Road bit.
Yes.
Wario Colosseum or else I'll be sad/mad
Today I learned that they aren’t called Wuhu Island Loop and Wuhu Mountain Loop in the States. Which is traitorous for a British site to refer to them in that way 😛
Yes, Wario Coloseum, please!

@mandlecreed Agreed. Mario Kart 7 has the best of all the Rainbow Road themes, for its callback but also its original parts and its variation between the two sections of the track. They don't need to do much to the theme except polish up the sound quality. And the track is pretty great too.
I think Rainbow Road Wii needs to be here as well. That was my favourite Rainbow Road, Mario Kart 7 had the best music but I didn't think it was quite as good as the Wii version of it.
Super Circuit Rainbow Road is the best one.
Will never get my moola unless waluigi pinball is included
Fun fact: I decided to do a bit of sleuthing by examining the image of the pricing of the Pass and I discovered, right below Peach's kart, is an image of 3 Shy Guys before a glide ramp. Now what does that remind me of? Oh yeah, SHY GUY BAZAAR, my favourite track in the entire series!
Out of the ones that are still unconfirmed, Rainbow Road Wii and Bowser's Castle Double Dash would be personal picks of mine since I think they're really cool and they haven't appeared in a MK game since their inception.
the writer forgot that there is Mario Kart on snes, and the ghost tracks are simply amazing on that game. With all snes limitations you almost feel the ground texture when driving, and those tracks have tricky shortcuts hidden, they are AMAZING.
Aside of that, the bowser tracks are amazing too, and the Mario Circuit 2 is super suitable to the glide now present in mario kart 8.
Great list! Here’s some additional ones for me:
-Rosalina’s Ice World (Incredibly generic name, but really fun track layout, and a great use of underwater)
Rock Rock Mountain-(it’s just fun to fly in the air, and you can have really entertaining battles up there)
Delfino Square- (really basic, but it’s just one of the best “mood” tracks around, as the track design is really smooth to drive through)
Waluigi Stadium- (not quite as good as Pinball, but one of the most bonkers tracks I’ve ever raced in. Also, I need the version with half-pipes because that would be really nice)
Ds or N64 Bowser’s Castle (both are some of the pinnacles of the series, with excellent track layout that really make you feel that you’re inside the lair of a monster)
DK mountain from the DS entry. Not sure if that was it’s name but it was covered with snow, so would look nice with an HD remaster.
They could also have a bowser castle collection as well. The N64 course is my favourite.
The wii entry was good but the metal half pipe wasn’t used well, as you were forced to trick of the edge to get through it. It would be better to have the racers drive down the middle. The boulder shot from the bowser statue would be more of an obstacle.
wow you guys are expecting a lot more out of this dlc than me, ill be grateful if we even get one antigrav section in an old course
Merry mountain: I want to hear that music on the Switch.
Another Ghost Valley: A severe lack of spooky courses and also ghost valley remakes. Also can you make the same atmosphere like on the Wii. K Thx.
Bonus: Broken pier.
DK Snowboard Cross: Like as spooky, lack of DK.
Also I'm liking that music.
A bowser castle from GBA and or Snes. See above x2.
Riverside Park (is it that one with the volcano erupting right?)
I don't really have a wishlist for new tracks in MK8, but the article brings up an interesting thought - anti-gravity. Are anti-gravity sections going to be worked in to these tracks, or are they going to be straight ports from their previous games (or from MK Tour)? I don't remember seeing any anti-grav sections in the tracks shown in the Direct. It would be nice if the DLC devs put a little extra work into the new tracks to integrate them into the MK8 universe rather than just straight porting them.
Doesn't the fact that there are 48 courses in the dlc, combined with Mario Kart Tour having 48 courses, mean that the dlc will just be comprised of the mobile content ported over?
@WhiteUmbrella Are there no MK 8 Tracks in Tour? If not, it is possible.
All good picks. I'll add Koopa Troopa Beach and Mushroom City.
@WhiteUmbrella If memory serves, there's three tracks in the first wave (Coconut Mall, Shroom Ridge, and Sky Garden) that are not in MK Tour. So it's not going to be just the mobile tracks.
Baby Park is already there. All else is bonus or distraction, depending on perspective.
No honestly, I both think that on one hand this is great and makes a ton of sense, MK8 is insanely popular, they shouldn't kill it or divide the player base. On the other hand... It was supposed to be the ultimate, complete version right out of the box, just like Smash. I have both on Wii U, I skipped Smash on Switch knowing it would again have dlc... And recently sold MK8 because I thought I had seen it all and would get the next installment whenever that happened. Now I see value in the Expansion Pack. But I'd also need to get back the game itself at a decent price.
@WhiteUmbrella Didn't they show every MK game in that trailer? Surely they'll take tracks from all of them.
I will take any course they will add. Would love to see them end up adding all the courses and make 8 deluxe the ultimate Mario Kart experience.
Delfino Square and Peach Gardens deserve to come back, even though they both made it onto Mario Kart Wii.
I'm so on board with every choice on this list, but especially Wario Shipyard and Airship Fortress!
Maka Wuhu > Wuhu Loop
I’d prefer just one and the better one at that. Otherwise this is a very solid list and I’d like to see most of these tracks!

WARIO'S GALLEON (3DS)
@Banjo- Agreed, the SNES tracks are the purest “racing” in Mario Kart, sometimes they can seem out of place with the 3D tracks. As such, a retro cup with only SNES tracks would be great. Bowser Castle, Mario Circuit, Ghost Valley and Vanilla Lake/Choco Island
@mjharper
5 tracks.
@Alaninho Yep! Super Mario Kart still is the most pure racing Mario Kart game. Double Dash is close with its realistic physics and exhilarating driving. Mario Kart 8 is much softer and duller. Anti-gravity is a mere gimmick in the game. I would like a few retro cups with SNES tracks. The way the SNES circuits have been remade this far is quite nice. They also feature some of the best music in the series. The 3DS version of Rainbow Road is amazing.
Original is great, too:
And more... 😍
@WhiteUmbrella There are indeed 48 tracks in Mario Kart Tour that aren't remixes or retro tracks already in the game once Sky Garden is added. But Coconut Mall and Shroom Ridge aren't in those 48, so there is still hope for other tracks. Also, the 48 isn't counting remixes or variants of the city tracks.
Here are all the tracks in Tour not in 8 Deluxe:
Tour (11):
New York Minute (4 variants)
Tokyo Blur (4 variants)
Paris Promenade (3 variants)
London Loop (3 variants)
Vancouver Velocity (3 variants)
Los Angeles Laps (3 variants)
Merry Mountain
Berlin Byways 2
Ninja Hideaway
Sidney Sprint (2 variants)
Singapore Speedway
SNES (11):
Mario Circuit 1
Donut Plains 1
Ghost Valley 1
Mario Circuit 2
Choco Island 1
Donut Plains 2
Mario Circuit 3
Choco Island 2
Vanilla Lake 1
Koopa Beach 2
Vanilla Lake 2
N64 (4):
Koopa Troopa Beach
Kalimari Desert
Frappe Snowland
Choco Mountain - confirmed
GBA (5):
Bowser's Castle 1
Bowser's Castle 2
Sky Garden - confirmed
Cheep-Cheep Island
Sunset Wilds
GCN (1):
Dino Dino Jungle
DS (4):
Luigi's Mansion
Waluigi Pinball
DK Pass
Airship Fortress
Wii (2):
DK Summit
Maple Treeway
3DS (10):
Toad Circuit - confirmed
Daisy Hills
Cheep Cheep Lagoon
Shy Guy Bazaar
Mario Circuit
Rock Rock Mountain
Wario Shipyard
Rosalina's Ice World
Bowser's Castle
Rainbow Road
It would be a crime not to include Waluigi Pinball. I know they're the "meme" picks but I grew up loving Waluigi Pinball and Coconut Mall, so having both of them back would be fantastic.
A lot of tracks in Mario Kart Tour are ported from Mario Kart 7. So despite not being in Tour yet, N64 Luigi Raceway, Wii Mushroom Gorge, GCN Daisy Cruiser, and Wii Koopa Cape have a good chance of being in the DLC.
There are so so many I could name. I'll suggest Cheep Cheep Beach (that music...) and Vanilla Lake. Despite them being circular, but they could just compliment other circular tracks like Baby Park and Excitebike. I'm also a bit partial to MKDD's Rainbow Road-- So many breakneck finishes me and my friends used to have on there, man alive.
First of all, i'm excited to see how the original Tour tracks control and if they are inventive and become favorites, regardless of the visuals.
I would love to see more reimagined tracks from Super Circuit like Lakeside Park with the errupting volcano and the rainy Luigi Circuit.
Some additional spooky tracks would be nice, like Ghost Valley 3 from the SNES, Banshee Boardwalk from the N64, Boo Lake or Broken Pier from Super Circuit, and finally perhaps Luigi's Mansion from the DS.
I also really like the tracks on the roads with other vehicles like Mushroom Bridge or Mushroom City from Double Dash, Moonview Highway from Wii or Wuhu Loop from 3DS.
Finally, I hope they remaster some favorites of mine like Daisy Cruiser and Wario Colosseum from Double Dash, Delfino Square and Airship Fortress from DS, Toad's Factory and Maple Treeway from Wii, Shy Guy Bazaar and Wuhu Mountain Loop from 3DS.
A special mention for some additional Bowser's Castles, especially from 64, Wii and 3DS. Rainbow Road 3DS is welcome as well 😁
I like this list, but I would add Peach Beach GCN
Maple Treeway was definitely one of our favourites back in the day.
I've actually never played Mario Kart 7. Probably passed me by because it was on 3ds.
And my god, it's been ages since I played Double Dash.
Needs to be at least one of each of the original areas from the original game - Vanilla Lake, Choco Island, Bowser's Castle etc.
Wuhu Mountain Loop gives me nightmares because of that exploit where people could skip 1/3 of the course
@Ashunera84 Absolutely. This writer doesn't know a thing about Super Mario Kart 😅.
@nessisonett Same for Wario’s Galleon!
Kalimari Desert is the worst! You basically have to know and nail the shortcut or you're all but guaranteed to be stopped by a slow moving train.
Shame none of these will be all gussied up though. At least not past Mario Tour level, certainly not to 8 Deluxe level.
Good list, though I feel Moo Moo Farms is a little redundant of the existing Moo Moo Meadows but maybe that's just me. I'm seeing a lot of requests for Waluigi Pinball from the DS and I agree that we will likely see that. I would like to add DK mountain from Gamecube as the course was great and on Gamecube offered the opportunity to take a shortcut skidding off an edge, though if you didn't make it or were hit would cost you a bit of time. But maybe for that reason we won't see this or Wario Stadium from the N64.
I wish they were adding Block Fort from the Nintendo 64 to the battle arenas as well as Diddy and Funky Kong. Gotta dream.
DK Mountain, Waluigi Pinball and Wario Colosseum!!! MmmmM!!!!!
I won't lie, I read this article solely to make sure Waluigi Pinball was mentioned.
Good job NintendoLife. I see you are a person of culture as well.
I'd like to see the city track from the GameCube game and the one on the GBA that starts at sunset and ends in the darkness (Sunset Wilds I believe is the name).
Ghost Valley 1 from the snes is all I want
The lack of love the gba game get is kinda sad.
I want the one from wii with the mushroom area, also i hard disagree with moo moo farm since i already dislike the style.
Actually...
Retro circuits not included in MK8D+Wave 1:
SNES: 6 types (Mario, Ghost, Bowser, Choco, Koopa, Vanilla)
N64: 11/16
GBA: 16/20
GC: 12/16
DS: 12/16
Wii: 12/16
3DS: 11/16
MOBILE: 8/11
TOTAL: 6 SNES types + 82 circuits = 88
Unfortunately, half of the circuits aren't going to make it.
I want Mushroom City from Double Dash and Moonview Highway from MK Wii. I love me tracks that have other traffic going on them ^^.
EDIT: Oh yeah I forgot, throw Banshee Boardwalk in there too!
Just redo all the N64 ones please
@Duboiss I agree. The GBA remakes are some of the best. Ribbon Road and Cheese Land are amazing. I'd love to see Sunset Wilds, Lakeside Park, and Bowser Castle 4 in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
They should just give us the tracks from wii that aren’t in the game already (including remakes of course)
Koopa Cape from Mario Kart Wii and 7.
More tracks from the DS game would be welcomed
Lame!
Not a single Super Mario Kart or Mario Kart Advance track mentioned!
I agree with every DS and Wii course mentioned, except I think Delfino Square from the DS should definitely be in there
Most of these have already been redone or on tour. I'd like to see Waluigi Stadium or maybe some of the MK arcade tracks ones that are lesser known
Personally, most of the DS tracks are great candidates. I've never known anyone that loves Kalimari Desert from N64. It's hideous and boring.
I actually don't mind if they don't add things like antigravity sections. I never found them very interesting and I am worried that they won't fit with the aesthetic of many of the older courses. It would be really nice to play lots of the N64/ DS courses with upgraded graphics since those have aged poorly. I am also looking forward to playing the Double Dash and Super Circuit courses since I have never played those games.
I like the strong representation of Double Dash and MK7 tracks. Those games get overlooked too much in the fandom!
Aside from the ones already mentioned, I’d love to see Sherbet Land (N64), Peach Beach (GCN) and Moonview Highway (Wii) rendered in HD. But if I had to pick one, it has to be Dino Jungle. It’s objectively the best Mario Kart track because, dinosaurs. haha
Surprised you didn't mention any Tour tracks...I highly doubt I'm going to play that game any time soon but since I never seen those tracks I want to see more of those.
Also, Wario Stadium from 64...even though they would likely fix the exploit I like to use with the lightning bolt and that one jump. lol
For those that know the math, whats the number of possible course choices they can pick from to fill 48 slots?
I imagine all Tour exclusive tracks will come over to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with this DLC. As for what other tracks could be added, does anyone not want Waluigi Pinball added? I'm also very happy to see both Wuhu Loop and Maka Wuhu listed. I would like to see them both again too. Delfino Square, Wuhu Loop, Koopa Cape and Maka Wuhu all in one DLC cup?
Solid list. Wuhu Island courses from 3DS are on the top of the list for me personally. I'd also love to see Mushroom City from Double Dash.
I just hope they change DK Mountain to be a little more narrow like it was in Double Dash as opposed to how wide it was in MKWii. I understand there are 12 people now, but c'mon.... it's so wide the perilous parts from DD are no longer anywhere near as dangerous, lol.
I find your lack of Yoshi Valley...disturbing.
Banshee Boardwalk would be interesting to see in the MK8 artstyle.
DK Mountain was so fun when it was brought to Mario Kart Wii. I would love to see it back. Also Bowser's Castle 64 I loved in MKW for some reason.
@abdias I was gonna say the same- some of the best actual racing where there aren't a million items flying around is the snes version.
The Star cup comes to mind!
Mount Wario is my favorite course in MK8D. DK Mountain is my overall favorite course. As long as that makes it in, I'm happy.
Maple Treeway is one of my all time favorite courses. Something about it is simultaneously relaxing and exhilarating.
I loved DK Pass in MK7!
@Angelic_Lapras_King I did the maths above.
Wario Stadium needs to be included. From all of the modern Mariokartz, I think this is the only N64 track that has not been redone
DK Mountain GC , and the Wii mountain course as well, these are all great
sportwave (mountains+wuhu) , pirate & spooky wave (airship, banshee, cruiser daisy cruiser ), city wave (Delfino, daisy circuit Wii, Vancouver/ LA/ NY (MKT) , etc..
@MinatoYuki You know they patched that out, right? That means it probably wouldn't have that glitch, unless they were really lazy.
I'm hoping for a lot of Double Dash tracks. And that they remain as narrow and tight as they were. The remade Yoshi Circuit isn't half as fun in MK8 as it was in DD :/
@iLikeUrAttitude Wrong comment section I think.
I don't think it's likely to happen but I would love the full 3 lap version of Rainbow Road from N64
My most wanted would be the original SNES Ghost & Bowser Castle levels, and any/all of the N64 ones that we don't already have.
Either way this DLC is a bargain, either paid for or as part of the NSO expansion.
I just got a survey from nintendo on Mario Kart 8 dlc.... wondering if they are discussing the graphics internally as well (highres graphics was one of the options you could mark 'important' )
You forgot shroom ridge. One of my favorites and i dont usually like tracks with traffic.
Apparently DK junior is a playable character soon
@Minako Oh you're right, thanks for letting me know.
DK Mountain is the greatest Mario Kart track ever made.
Gimmie mushroom gorge or no deal
Dk summit from mkwii is a good one aswell. The only problem is the lack of tricks in mk8d will probably make this track a bit less exciting compared to the original.
It's good to dream but let's face it Nintendo aren't going to release anymore dlc for such an old game. Let's just focus on Mario kart 9 people
@USWITCH64 Did you miss the latest Nintendo Direct? 48 retro tracks are coming to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as DLC.
DK Mountain is my favorite course! It’s honestly been a little disappointing it’s hasn’t resurfaced since Double Dash. I would be ecstatic to play it again!
@USWITCH64 yes I agree, this dlc is just propaganda to sell the expansion pack. Never gonna happen
Hopefully Mario kart 9 is released soon as I'm itching to play some different tracks
1) Great selection!
2) I need to replay Mario Kart 7 asap! ;-D
I give you my top 9 wishes:
1) Waluigi pinball (ds)
2) Rainbow Road (ds)
3) DK Mountain (double dash)
4) Wuhu Loop (3ds)
5) Luigi's Mansion (double dash)
6) Mushroom Bridge (double dash)
7) Toads factory (wii)
8) Koopa cape (wii)
9) delfino square (ds)
This is a stellar list. Strongly agree with literally every single one
Wasn't sure if I was going to buy it, but following the announcement that friends can play it or you can get randomly matched into it online (a very pro consumer move) I am buying it and super hyped for what comes
