Update 2: The huge sale is now live. Head on over to start making some amazing savings!
Update 1: Well, that didn't take long! Nintendo of Europe has now shared the tweet once again, keeping it live this time. As we mentioned previously (original story below), we'll make sure to provide more info on the sale this Thursday when it goes live.
Original Article (Mon 16th Dec, 2019 11:15 GMT): We've been treated to some pretty wonderful sales over the past few months - sometimes as part of Nintendo's weekly download updates and sometimes thanks to very generous offers from individual publishers - but it looks like we might be about to receive a mighty, bumper edition of a sale.
Today at 10:19am GMT, Nintendo of Europe tweeted the following message. It reads, "Our Festive Offers 2019 #eShop sale begins 19/12 at 15:00 CET!", with an image which suggests that more than 700 games will be reduced by as much as 80%.
Strangely enough, the tweet was deleted within seconds of it going up. You can view the original link here, but it's gone for good. We're guessing that the tweet was accidentally scheduled ahead of time, and that a proper announcement for the sale will come nearer the time. Nintendo's sales do usually go live on Thursdays, so that 19th December start date definitely sounds about right.
Assuming the sale does indeed go live later this week, we'll make sure to update you with a list of games available.
Make sure to keep checking back for some huge savings!

This should be good. Just recently got more credit for the eShop too. Not to mention payday approaching.
Nice! Hopefully this will be a worldwide sale or in many of the regions and not just a UK eshop sale.
Generally Nintendo's sales aren't that enticing for me personally (30% of Zelda which has been out forever) but the third party companies do a great job! I picked up Bomberman two weeks ago for like $12? I'm looking forward to seeing what's on offer. Happy Holidays ya'll.
To be fair there a few games that are permanently 80% off but in general the sales here in the UK have generally been great. In fact they are probably too good as I almost never buy an eShop game at full price anymore as they get discounted so quickly.
Just in time then lol. Got some credits for Eshop
Yes although I got a backlog as long as an Anaconda iv got my stepson a switch lite for Xmas with lots of eshop credits so hell also have a great time downloading some great games at discount
Sure, the indie games are 80% off, but you're lucky to get 10% on Nintendo titles. Maybe if it's your birthday as well; and only on games you already own
I can't imagine Nintendo games being 80% off
80% off indies is great but can not beat 100% off from qubicGames.
Nintendo sales will be games that everyone has like Zelda, Mario kart odyssey and they will be 30% off under the banner of upto 80% off
I hope it's not just Nintendo games with physical versions available, but looking at that 80%, that means it won't be like that. Nintendo games are around 30% off when on sale, so I hope I'll see some indies or even Arcade Archives games with their prices reduced.
That's good. However, I'm frankly beginning doubting about all these "social media mistakes"...
@Octane Can confirm, was my birthday a few days ago. All Nintendo offer now is 300 platinum points and in Japan, I believe they offer you some downloadable wallpapers. They don't even give you the discounts anymore (Not that I got much use from them in the first place).
Personally hope for at least -15% on new Atelier
Wanted to buy Treasure Trove and play all of the Shovel Knight campaigns, i'll wait for a possible sale now
Well this looks to be good, and im hoping it's a legitimate sale coming to us.
Excellent, bought a Switch Lite for the wee lad, wondering wether or not I should set it up for him and preload some bargains for him to play from the first minute. Or should I leave it to him? He is only 6 like so I will be doing the set up anyway, and having the final say on what games he has haha
Glad to see I'm not the only one who's noticed this. Compare sony and Nintendo exclusive sales and there is a big gap in price. Both offer quality gaming experience that you can only get on one console, but for some reason Nintendo hardly ever drops its prices online
@Scottwood101 just make sure you dont save the credit card info on the console or he would be going to town with fortnite
Thought there would be
In the absence of any details whatsoever, I'm looking forward to 80% off Link's Awakening, The Touryst, Witcher 3 and Assassin's Creed Black Flag.
Sounds good, looking forward to seeing what pops up!
@Octane Exactly
My home insurance cashback needs to hurry up!
Convert that into a virtual credit card and my partner will never know
Excellent! Asked for vouchers for Xmas and can't resist a sale.
Still got 120gb space but need to hold some back for Animal Crossing...
And Nintendo's games will be 30% off.
C’mon Slay the spire! C’mon River city girls! C’mon Untitled goose game!!!
The first party Nintendo games will be about 20-30% off.
Great! My backlog is weighing me down. I need to make it heavier to finally finish me off!
half expect it to be the same games from the black friday sale
Bought my boy a Switch. Put some Pokemon skins on the joycons and have already got it set up. Downloaded some games for him already but this'll be a great last minute chance to see if there's anything else.
@Pirlo_ze_sniper it's been reported before that Nintendo believes dropping the price too much would devalue their first party offerings. Agree or not, it's hard to deny that game sales - especially digital ones - mostly happen to keep an older release competitive in a constantly growing library, and Nintendo has all the reasons to assume that their own games tend to remain sufficiently competitive by themselves.😏
They do tend to drop the price by a third here and there, including voucher value, so there's that. But it's pretty useless to chastise them for what is a conscious choice rather than oversight - we can just accept their terms or turn them down.
I am going to sleep all day till Thursday! Hehe
I REALLY hope this will be in other regions. Share the Christmas love, Nintendo!
If the sales have these games and are good I hope they are at a good sales price.
@Scottwood101 Honestly it would be better for him to pick out the games he wants. If there are games that you know he would play and they are on sale then there is no harm in getting them at the sale price and have them downloaded for him in advance. Hard for a kid to get a new games system only having to wait for games to download first.
I'm unemployed and broke. I also happen to be a gamer. The two things don't mix.
I couldn't afford anything during the last Black Friday sale. Now that I can - yet again - get a Christmas present out of my father's Christmas bonus (and I feel awful about this), it might look like the right opportunity to expand by
backloglibrary.I hope this applies to the US.
I agree that the birthday discount sucks and mostly offers games you already have or aren’t interested in. But one year I got Twilight Princess HD cheap and my siblings gave me the Wolf Link amiibo separately.
@N64-ROX I got a huge price drop on Zelda Links Awakening physical recently.
I paid 18 bucks for it. Got a gift card because price dropped on a HDD Cabinet i bought awhile ago within 60 days.
Gotta like price warranty.
@MoonKnight7 Sadly only Sony and Microsoft give 75% +/- off on first party games.
When it comes to sales generally, Switch beats PS/Xbox sales by far.
You never get 90-95% discounts on any of them.
Devs stopped caring about Sony/Microsoft sales long time ago as they only update store one time weekly.
Switch store is updated 7 days a week, and have new sales 7 days a week.
@Joriss ave!
Ppl the to criticise the lack of deep discounts for Nintendo games. Yet, the big games that don't get discounted tend to have a 'long tail' and continue to sell well even years after release.
Other publishers need to use deep discounts to gain visibility and boost sales. Nintendo doesn't
I hope it´s time to give myself that Civilization VI, Ni no Kuni, Dragon´s Dogma, or Final Fantasy XII... Any of them must come home!
Geez, there´s so much out there I want to play, and so little money and time...
@jsty3105 But even games like Captain Toad, Arms or DK Tropical Freeze, which I think they don´t sell much anymore, don´t get big discounts...
I don´t know what they are waiting for to start a Player´s Choice/Platinum type of stuff.
Hopefully we see good games on the sale and it's US and Europe having close to the same sales.
If we get some better than 30% off on some first party titles, I might be tempted to irresponsibly add to my growing backlog of games, lol
Now that I'm all done buying for the family, and paying bills, I hope Grid gets a sale. I need any discount I can get, and it's the only game I want.
I hope Pokken Tournament is finally on sale
Was obviously always going to happen, the eshop is in a constant state of sale.
Maybe Bulletstorm will be at a decent price now!
@1UP_MARIO there’s a lot of new Switch owners, and there’ll be even more after Christmas Day. People wonder why they reduce those ‘old’ games but I guarantee you they’ll chart high on the eShop when the sale is on. My nephew is getting a Switch Lite & I’ve advised his Mum to get him eShop credit and let him pick his own games from the forthcoming sale.
Wish NOA had some offers of their own.
I guess there are so many games in the eshop, a good percentage sell very little if anything after the first couple of weeks of their release.
I'm hoping either Bulletstorm, Black Flag or Call of Juarez will have a decent discount. I weirdly want to play some aaa games on my switch right now.
@1UP_MARIO qbic spams their game news channels a lot. Make sure to disable them.
I would like to get Doom or Wolfenstein 2, but these are still $60 pre sale, usually $30 on sale. Need to be lower.
@SquareOneMJ your right. I’d recommend getting them games physical if possible. Can find much better discounts on these games or even pre owned
So, wait, the sale starts on the 12th of Ninteenember? You Brits and your funny date system
@embison To be fair, 19/12 is the correct linguistic order for "19th of 12mber". Our American way of writing it as 12/19 forces it to read "12mber 19". It is ours that can be misread as 12th of 19ember, not the Brits. We still say "the Fourth of July" following European tradition, after all.
Just round up the usual suspects and deduct 30%. Gee thanks Mr Bowser!
Hopefully there is a sale in countries that dont bundle in so much tax, seeing as I don't live in Europe. 50% off in the UK is 30% off for everyone else.
The non Nintendo games tend to throw up some pretty decent deals, but the Nintendo first party stuff is a joke, they knock 30% of an already inflated online download price, and you can normally buy the physical version for less ????.
I wonder if salt and sanctuary will part of this sale. it's not been on sale once since being on the Switch and I'm not paying full price for it again
Now would be the perfect time for Nintendo to slash there big hitters below £30, Switch lite/ Switch sold bucket loads over BF
@johnvboy The physical editions for Nintendo games seem to rarely go down in price.
Nothing for Americans?
@JayJ,
True, but as the digital versions tend to be more expensive in the first place these sales on Nintendo first party titles are poor imho.
BRING IT ON, tENDO~!!
