Hive Jump, Exile's End, Hollow Knight, Stardew Valley, Earthlock, Mekazoo... A couple of eShop games confirmed for Wii U in 2016. We'll see if they all get released this year.
To me, as I try to combine college, work, social life and gaming, the Wii U was a perfect console. I played, and still playing, a lot of games on it. In the beginning there were a lot of Wii games to finish in my library of games. As I couldn't play a lot like I used to, I never felt there were no games to play. Wii U first party, indie eShop and Virtual Console games kept me busy through the years. I fully understand the mistakes that were made with the Wii U, but I never regretted buying the console and enjoyed it quite a lot. Still playing Paper Mario: Color Splash and the big multiplayer games as well as a couple of indie eShop and VC games on it. Planning on getting Yooka Laylee and Zelda on it too (and do a 2nd playthrough of Zelda on the Switch). Farewell Wii U.
@Clownshoes Well, I understand that. At least we're getting Dragon Quest XI. I hope they do something special with FF 7 Remake and the Cloud amiibo though.
@ThomasBW84 They have 3 Saturdays left in March, IF they even release hardware on Saturdays in Japan and IF they're not going to release it worldwide on the same day. I remember the Wii U had a staggered launch. US, Europe and Japan had all different launch dates.
@G-Boy Indeed. But it has been such a long time ago since Nintendo held an actual live press conference/presentation/event, at least that's what I understood from the press release. I'm getting that E3 feeling from back in the days, yaaay
Woke up here in Europe to this wonderful news. A big LIVE streamed presentation from Tokyo sounds exciting, followed by public showings in the US and Europe.
Will this event be somewhat like the Wii U event held in September 2012? That was also 2 months before the launch.
You can't abandon an userbase of 60+ million immediately. Though if you look at the upcoming games, most of them are coming are from 2nd and 3rd party studios. I think most of Nintendo's 1st party studios are working exclusively for the Switch.
Good to position the 3DS more and more for the younger gamer as an affordable gaming system. A price drop of all the models would be nice too, especially the New 3DS (XL) once the Switch arrives.
All I can say is go and play Wii U games you haven't bought yet, physical or digital indie games. Enjoy the last couple of months and let's ends its run on a positive note instead of torturing yourself with the crazy speculations surround Switch. This will be the last holiday with Wii U having a spot in stores and at homes, if any.
What if they releases their biggest Wii U multiplayer games with upgrades at launch day? And if you already own that game on the WIi U, there would be a special upgrade system for €10/15? That way you don't have to pay full price, but you do get all the added bells and whistles of the upgraded Switch versions.
I'm looking at Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros., Splatoon and Super Mario Maker for its community aspect. Think of added online options, courses, levels, characters, modes and visual upgrades.
To my surprise my famliy started talking today about the 'new Nintendo' that's coming out in March 2017 after seeing the trailer on social media and hearing about it in traditional media. They instantly understood the concept and are looking forward playing it with me when they visit me.
I was completely shocked. NO ONE has ever mentioned something to me about the Wii U around 2011 and 2012... even to this day they're still a bit confused why I needed the Wii U to play the new games on it: 'But you already have a Wii.' Sigh...LOL!
THIS MOMENT...this pitch of their new system...needs to land perfectly with gaming and espcially mainstream media to be picked up and get good word of mouth in this age of social media.
So we have more 3rd party games rumored/confirmed than 1st party. With Just Dance 2017 at launch, Sonic launching Holiday 2017 and both Dragon Quest XI and the rumored Beyond Good and Evil 2 coming in 2018 (DQ11 is my guess). I hope Kingdom Hearts 3 will be coming to NX as well.
Thanks to all for the localisation! I love this series and especially DQ 7! My 3DS has turned into THE Dragon Quest system with DQ 4, 5, 6 (original remakes on DS) and 9, with 7 now and 8 in 2017. And hopefully 11 too in 2017 or 2018.
I hope they figure out the right messaging for the NX from the start. Word of mouth is so important in this age of social media, so the concept must be clear and easy to understand and be exciting and new at the same time. I'm not concerned about the games, Nintendo usually delivers on this front. If they succeed in that, I don't mind if it's coming in March or November 2017.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE It won't be long indeed, my Donkey Kong, Wario, Boo and Rosalina amiibo just arrived. 3 days before the official release date. Maybe retailers aren't that strict with amiibo.
I can't wait to play this game. I know my opinion won't be a popular one but I like the game for being different compared to Paper Mario 1 and 2. The first one was great and TTYD perfected that formula. Super Paper Mario was a fun departure and Sticker Star was indeed a letdown, but this seems to correct the mistakes of SS. Looking forward to Color Splash this Friday.
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy Try to be a little bit more empathetic towards this very personal story of a developer behind a great indie game. The link with Nintendo is that it's available on the Wii U eShop.
Slightly off topic: do you guys think the NX reveal will be after the release of Paper Mario: Color Splash on October 7th as it's the final 1st party game made by Nintendo exclusive for the Wii U?
I remember Fall 2004 in Europe...it was such a great time to be a GameCube owner. I bought Animal Crossing in September, Pikmin 2 in October, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Tales of Symphonia and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes in November and Prince of Persia: Warrior Within early December. Good old days
@Pahvi Oops I didn't think of the Zelda titles because they're full remakes with HD graphics etc. Metroid Prime 1 and 2 are great examples yes, forgot about them (shame on me to forget them haha).
In all fairness, no one asked for Federation Force but the game itself isn't bad or broken, it's an OK to good game. But that's not the point i guess, it's more about the Metroid Prime label it got.

Re: Talking Point: A New Nintendo 3DS Price Drop Can Prolong the Portable's Lifespan
It would be wise to lower the price of the New 3DS XL by March 2017 to distance it from the Switch.
Re: Budget New Nintendo 3DS Models Announced for North America
Wow... if you're just getting a 3DS now...there's a massive library of games. Where to start haha?!
