Re: Hands On: Painting a Clearer Picture of Paper Mario: Color Splash

@Project_Dolphin "It's only a problem to you, not to the gamers who enjoy Sticker Star."
Oh! Okay! So the people who didn't like Sticker Star aren't allowed say anything! Got it.
"Nope. You just need to stop acting like Nintendo cares about making Color Splash like Paper Mario 64 and The Thousand Year Door."
Yeah...don't criticize Nintendo's decisions! Even though them constantly changing Paper Mario has produced a game with mixed feelings towards it, and two games that a majority of people hate! Is it really a crime to want stories and characters back in Paper Mario? Is that really too much to ask? Hell, I liked Super Paper Mario, because while the gameplay may not have been as the first two, it still had character and stories! You are allowed to not like the direction the series is going. Y'see, the thing about change is that, if I'm going to accept it, it has to actually be GOOD. And these changes have essentially turned Paper Mario into a hollowed shell of it's former self.
@Madder128 No. Sorry, but I'm not gonna try it. Why would I buy a game that I'm extremely confident I won't enjoy? I'd rather spend my money on something that I think has a better change of being fun for me.
@WiltonRoots Y'know that just because a game has the same gameplay, doesn't mean that it has to be the same, right? I mean, there are ways to implement new ideas without completely overhauling how the game plays. Also, funny how you say that it'd just be the same game, when this one looks almost exactly like Sticker Star.
@shaneoh Sigh...okay. I am going to try one more time. Y'see, two of the most important parts of Paper Mario were it's story and characters. People simply want those back. Yeah, another thing that makes Paper Mario what it is is it's art-style, but without the stories and characters, you've basically just got an empty shell. And for those who want the old gameplay back, think of it this way: 64 and TYD's gameplay was great, Super's was okay, and Sticker Star's was just bad. We'd kinda like to go back to great, and given that Nintendo's constant changing of the formula has just consistently made things gradually get worse, we don't really want to risk it. In addition to that, Sticker Star had all sorts of problems, and some of those problems seem to be returning, so naturally not everyone's happy to see those problems come back. Look, if you're looking forward to the game, good for you. I hope you enjoy it. I am only asking that you understand that people have a reason to not be excited about the direction the series is heading. They basically turned Paper Mario into something entirely different. If this was it's own thing, then there wouldn't be nearly as much backlash.

"Paper Mario: Color Splash, with its silly demeanor and flashy world with witty inhabitants and arcade button presses, is a game for somebody."
And that somebody...is definitely not me. Look, I'm just gonna make this quick, I am not liking the direction this series is going. I mean, yeah, plenty of games will change as time goes by, but to pretty much throw everything that gave the series it's substance out the window? No. I am not okay with that. This is Paper Mario in name and art-style only. If you're looking forward to it, great. You obviously think it looks fun, and I won't stop you from buying it. Instead, I will simply hope that you enjoy it. But as for me, I just can't support this. Nintendo and Intelligent Systems have clearly shown that they have no idea what they're even doing with this series anymore, their reasoning for changing Paper Mario is stupid (they're only making it different because Mario & Luigi exists, and they think that we can't have two Mario RPGs), and they aren't even trying to meet the fanbase half-way. I know that some of the people on this site are going to say that I'm just being entitled and don't like change, but here's the thing: 1. The change in question has to actually be GOOD in order for me to like it. 2. How would you like it if one of your favorite series was drastically changed and was stripped of everything that you liked about it, and Nintendo decided to just ignore your criticisms of that decision and make it stay that way? Would you like that? 3. Even when you get rid of the fact that it's a Paper Mario game, Sticker Star still had some serious problems. Serious problems that this game seems to be repeating. So, yeah. I hope you’ll understand why I’m not looking forward to it, I hope you’ll enjoy it if you are looking forward to it, and I am just going to go on ahead and play Thousand Year Door again. I think I’ll also buy 64 and Super on the eshop while I’m at it. I may already own those two, but if it helps show Nintendo that they have more of what I’m looking for, then so be it.

@Frank90 What also doesn't help is that the writing is supposed to suggest that the rage is ONLY because of the main cast, when really, there's also the reasons you've stated. Besides, when you get down to it, the people who're hating purely based on the cast's gender are pretty much in the minority. I mean, if there really were this many people against the idea of women getting a starring role in movies, then where was all the rage in the countless other films where the main character(s) was female?

Re: Video: We Need To Talk About Ghostbusters 2 On The NES

NintendoFan64

@faint I don't know. I just really didn't like the ride to the reboot. I mean, it's not that news outlets were looking at a specific group; it's that the sexist group was the ONLY group they were looking at, and the group that they pretty much lumped all of the anti-reboot crowd into, calling even people who gave specific reasons unrelated to the fact that they're woman in a calm manner sexist just for not wanting to see the movie (look at the reaction to James Rolfe). I guess I just would've preferred if NintendoLife didn't even mention it. Also, I'm in the first two groups. These remakes are getting pretty annoying, and the trailers were horrible.

"In case you hadn't noticed, there's a new Ghostbusters film out at the moment, and it has endured its fair share of unfair criticism purely for having four female busters instead of four male ones."
So...are you going to start calling me misogynistic just for not wanting to watch the movie, also?

Re: Feature: A Year On - Satoru Iwata and His Enduring Legacy

NintendoFan64

Already been a year...still actually surprised that he's gone. You may not have agreed with all of his decisions, but you cannot deny that he was really something. He was an absolute legend in the industry, was one of the nicest guys out there from what I've heard, and when you get down to it, he wasn't just some corporate suit: he was a gamer.

Rest in peace, Iwata. We understand.

Re: Nintendo Producer Highlights How Paper Mario: Color Splash Improves on Sticker Star

NintendoFan64

@Kmno Don't even get me friggin' started on how stupid that is! You mean to tell me that they're fine with having so many platformers, yet Nintendo can't handle having two Mario rpgs!? And not only that, but two Mario rpgs that are actually very different from eachother!? Funny how they managed to co-exist with Super Star Saga and Thousand Year Door being released only a year apart from each-other!

Re: Nintendo Producer Highlights How Paper Mario: Color Splash Improves on Sticker Star

@UberMadman What really bugs me is that Nintendo apparently listened to criticism...except for the lack of original characters, and the battle system sucking, and the lack of partners, and the lack of story (Let's be honest: the twist is that Bowser is the baddy. That's all it's gonna amount to.), and the world map making progression more linear, and bosses requiring a specific sticker, and the back-tracking. Emphasis on the back-tracking, because they seem to be trying to fix that...they're just not giving a damn with their solution. As I said earlier, throwing in hints won't just make the card you need magically appear. You'll still need to go fetch it. Also, wanna know something funny? In Sticker Star, you could carry up to 120 regular-sized stickers, so the amount you have here is actually LESS-THAN the amount in the last game!
@EXP Gonna have to agree with you on that. In fact, I would much rather prefer that the series just ended with Super. At least then it would've been able to end with some dignity!
Edit: In b4 people start calling me "whiny", and "entitled", and that I'm "against change".
