Re: Overwatch For Nintendo Switch Is Feasible, According to Blizzard Senior Producer

Nalverus

ah OW...i remember having fun with that in closed beta. had it since day 1 on PC, wouldn't mind it if it came to switch.

to the people listing taking their progress to another system, don't even count on it. That just isn't going to happen.

Crossplay with xbox would be the highest chance but that likely wouldn't happen either. Would need their own party system and I don't see that happening.

Re: Rumour: Free-To-Play Switch Games Won't Be Impacted By Paid Online Service

Nalverus

you guys are being a bit narrow minded. By comparing the PS4 and Xbox, you guys aren't putting into perspective that these two companies are also from two completely different countries.

aka they're going to go with what seems more right in their respective home countries.

even so...20 for a year of a service is just stupidly cheap. I wish all my $60 a year subscriptions was also like that.

Re: Guide: Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games And Accessories For August And September

Nalverus

MHGU is gonna eat up all my time till december...then smash launches and i'll be dead in my man cave before you know it.

You guys are arguing between the community divide.
While i'm personally on team OG MH because I prefer more technical execution, there are people that just prefer MHW because of how more action oriented it is.
Personally, I wouldn't have minded it but it made everything become too free. The AI pathing of said monsters wasn't exactly...astounding either from my experience.
That said i've played too much of old MH (mainly MHFU and MHTri) to not prefer the more technical execution side of MH.
That and and I just really love what they do with the supersized variants.

Re: Mario Tennis Aces Version 1.2.0 Adds The Much-Wanted Mission Retry Feature And More

Nalverus

@Blizzia Oh believe me, I know aces really wasn't exactly ready for the world yet. It needs some different modes, most characters are absolutely just outstandingly bad, trick shots are way too easy to do AND THEIR RANGE IS ABSURD, and honestly anything else is just people's personal gripes (if they ever do give more than 1 set matches, I would never play the game in tournament mode if that wasn't local or private matches only. I just do not have the time for extremely long matches and I doubt many others do either.)

I'm just really tired of reading these "NINTENDO USED TO BE SO PERFECT WITH THEIR GAMES" nonsense.
As for story mode an the lack of content...it probably all came down to budget.

Re: Mario Tennis Aces Version 1.2.0 Adds The Much-Wanted Mission Retry Feature And More

Nalverus

I'm sorry but all these people saying "nintendo always made complete and perfect games" is utter bullcrap and you people need to open your eyes.

literally go watch speedruns of any nintendo game. Every last one of them gets torn apart from MANY bugs&glitches and abusing broken and unbalanced weaponry for the fastest time possible.
A game being perfect from the start....This was NEVER A THING. I'm sorry but that is the honest reality. Its only visually apparent to you now simply because they actively patch an fix these things quickly instead of secretly planting carts with a newer version of the game in the wild.

tl;dr - games has always been broken/unbalanced and patches for these things have ALWAYS existed. Even on old consoles.

/endrant

Still hoping for a doubles tournament option.

Re: Tomorrow's Mario Tennis Aces Update Aims To Fix Bowser Jr.'s Unfair Advantage

Nalverus

@Not_Soos if you're talking about the blue one, thats only ever going to go to boo's left (your right). if hes serving on your right then just hang right. if hes on your left then just stand still.

Purple has no ball rotation.
Blue has left ball rotation.
Red has right ball rotation.

Characters with the tricky trait are generally not that great because their curve shots always have the same path and are very, very easy to send back.

edit: ok so just did a little lab with him and what I said is completely true for his serves but his returns can go either way. Its still not hard because if its gonna go to your right its gonna go straight down the middle first then veer off to the right while if its coming to your left, it'll do the arc first then go straight.

Re: Tomorrow's Mario Tennis Aces Update Aims To Fix Bowser Jr.'s Unfair Advantage

Nalverus

@Nincompoop you can turn that off in the settings you know.
@Saego hes just whining for the sake of whining at this point. just ignore him.

Well its good they're taking notice. I figured they'd do it after every monthly season, but this is a nice step in the right direction. Every high level match devolved into "return every shot with mash down on the right stick then use a special move to send them far outside the court followed by a return drop shot and either burn their meter or get the point."

Kinda hard to balance such things when the ball always went within range of a trick shot. Seeing the range reduced is a step in the right direction.

Re: Fans Are Calling Out Nintendo And Camelot For "Lazy" Mario Tennis Aces

Nalverus

As if every game is completely perfect at release anymore.
The ones that complain tend to be the loudest because the ones that aren't complaining, aren't talking.

We all know balance patches are coming, why complain? they'll probably do it on a monthly basis, to keep the tournament leaderboards the same throughout the patch. Many companies do this.

The only thing I wish was in the game was tournament doubles. Doubles is just that much more fun to me.

Re: Review: Paladins - Founder's Pack (Switch eShop)

Nalverus

"And with cross-platform play due to be patched in by the end of June, Switch’s Paladins community won’t be an isolated one either."

Crossplay has been active since it came out. What it DOESN'T have is cross platform parties (no word on it yet either). Matchmaking is cross platform.

Try looking at players during champion pick or on the after game scoreboard. If you can't check their profile, they're xbox users.

Re: Dead Or Alive 6 Might Come To Switch If Technical Hurdles Are Overcome

Nalverus

@BraveLilac Because there is two major things at play (not counting many others), but the two major things is CPU optimization and GPU optimization. A fighting game is going to be attempted to look pretty. This is a no brainer, as there isn't much else going on - they're going to try to make it look visually pleasing. This part is likely not the issue. Its likely the engine needing to be coded with an nvidia cpu in mind where the X1 and PS4 use AMD hardware. This alone creates a very massive technical hurdle as different vendors have their cpu's process in vastly different, and very specific, ways.
The PC version is always made in mind with PC hardware up to a certain extent. Many Hardware isn't even tested, and is luck of the draw with the community. They learn what works an what doesn't after its in the hands of players.

TL;DR - X1/PS4 generally all AMD hardware. PC a vastly different beast, and Switch is all Nvidia Hardware. Console ver optimized for AMD hardware. PC ver will have no optimization for Nvidia CPU, only GPU.

Re: Check Out 20XX, A Roguelike Inspired By Mega Man X That Could Be Coming To Switch

Nalverus

little late for this but i'll chip in. I own 20XX on steam and while people would be on the fence, it really is a great indie game that pays serious nods to the X series.

While every layout is pre-generated its obviously pulling its parts from a small available pool but the good news is that they update the game every so often with balance changes, new building blocks, and a new DLC character so far (the char isn't free, rest has been.)

The Co-Op works surprisingly well for what it is. Theres a running joke with it where the loading screen will say something like "loading janky netcode" because when it first came out, it REALLY was. had major issues, but its all been ironed out save for a few things so its a running gag. playing it with a friend is a blast either way. Can even co-op daily runs and theres leaderboards for solo and co-op runs for those that like a challenge. (for the record the bosses are like any other megaman game. challenging at first, cakewalk when you know them.)

EDIT:oh right, forgot to add a serious detail for co op. There is a major difference between the local and online co op. In local co op, you share the same screen. theres no splitscreen so if you get farther apart from each other, the screen widens to accommodate for you two. basically you'll get really small so staying together in local is key (but very possible.)
In online co op, this is not the case. you each have your own screen and can be as far apart as you want in the map without any changes other than knowing your partner is somewhere out there in the map. (entering a glory zone teleports both players to it.) You cannot enter the boss area without both touching the door.
Lastly, there is a revive system. if a player dies, the living one can find a giant capsule randomly in the map. It'll just poof in front of you from time to time and costs half the living player's life to revive them.

Still its a solid 8/10 for me. Potentially a 9 if they add far more building blocks for the randomized generator. It does feel great to play although I don't recommend playing too much in a short time or you'll burn yourself out.

Re: Review: Rocket League (Switch eShop)

Nalverus

just to correct a line in there about the internet having a hiccup.

the game is running on dedicated servers. you're only communicating with the server, not the other players. If theres any lag whatsoever, its either you or the server an yeah these servers do have hiccups now and again but it most certainly can also be you more often than the servers.

Re: Sega Confirms Sonic Forces Is 720p, 30fps On Nintendo Switch

Nalverus

I was heavily considering sonic forces for the switch, but upon learning last night that its 30fps, i'll just get it on my gaming pc.
I do like the switch very much, enough to consider it over my high end gaming rig.

but i'm not dumb enough to settle for less, either, when I don't even have to.
even more so that its the ONLY platform thats running at 30 frames.

Re: Switch Owners Won't Be Able To Play Minecraft Or Rocket League Against PS4 Owners, And Here's Why

Nalverus

Sony is only in favor of just Cross platform play with PC but not the other systems.
In Rocket League, PC owners can play with either PS4/PC users in a match or Xbox/PC in a match. Never both but separate.

The entire reason tekken 7 has no crossplay is because sony doesn't want to crossplay with other consoles.

They don't care about PC in their ecosystem but they do care about console crossplay.

Re: Pre-Order Puyo Puyo Tetris, Get Some Fancy Keychains

Nalverus

@Kilroy VS, Fusion, Swap, Big Bang, Party, endless an so on.

Ranked 1v1, 4p matches of 1v1v1v1/2v2/3v1.

Basically any puzzle fans dream. You can also play puyo vs tetris if you so want.

I've wanted a western release of it for years and now its happening.

Re: Reggie on Wii U Support Going Forward

Nalverus

@fluggy I don't know how many more times i have to tell you. Its not the same version.

http://gamestopplus.com/Image/covers/shin-megami-tensei-persona-4/shin-megami-tensei-persona-4-cover888742.jpg

Release date: July 10th, 2008.

https://fanboydestroy.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/persona-4-golden-vita.jpg

October 3rd, 2012.

4 year difference.

Do these look the same to you? yeah? well thats cause ones PS2 original while the other is a slightly upgraded version, years later, for the vita.

Does buying this on PS3 digitally net you the vita version? no. no it doesn't. Even though its the same game but slightly upgraded? thats right, it still doesn't. Why is this?

Because they're different versions.

edit: i'm done responding to these and your adamant stance on not understanding of what crossbuy is and how it works. Honestly, i wouldn't be surprised if you threw another tantrum because the dev you like releases another port to another platform but doesn't allow crossbuy or "a free upgrade" (as you seem to so desperately want) to it since its a different version.

Re: Reggie on Wii U Support Going Forward

Nalverus

@fluggy You got it for free because it was the same version. Thats what you don't seem to be understanding here. Of course it was for your vita, it was a cross buy. CROSS BUY ONLY WORKS ON THE SAME VERSION.

Also i never said the wii u was a success. calm down. What i did say was there IS a very strong library of games on it. I never said these strong games was up your alley. A person's purchase is different per person. Now chill and understand what i'm telling you here.

Re: Reggie on Wii U Support Going Forward

Nalverus

@fluggy Street Fighter. Resident Evil. Guilty Gear. BlazBlue. Persona 4 arena. Uncharted. The list goes on.

This is not something new. so let me make it more clear.
You bought Vanilla Mario Kart 8. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a different version. It is not Vanilla 8.

owning GGXrd does not entitle you to the recently announced upgraded version of GGXrd R2.

You can be angry all you want, it doesn't change anything lol. Just don't buy it.

Lastly...march 3rd does not spell the end of mario kart 8 on wii u because deluxe doesn't even come out till april. and even then it'd take a longer time for the switch base to actually populate and then buy deluxe to move on from the wii u.

Also not too sure why you're complaining about software since the wii u got nintendo's best software in years. I can't say i don't know a person who hasn't complained about the existing games on the system.

Re: Reggie on Wii U Support Going Forward

Nalverus

@IceClimbers until the next one comes out on switch. mario kart will still have a month afterwards of everyone being on wii u (although tbh i'm pretty sure the Switch will be easier to search for as everyone will have all the track packs. that REALLLY split up the playerbase on wii u. 4 different sets of matchmaking in one game.)

splatoon will easily thrive till 2 comes out and smash doesn't even have a next iteration announced. That game will still last awhile.

the wii u's online is still gonna live for some time to come and may or may not get a boost back up when switch goes paid service.

@fluggy now hold on there, theres a fairly major flaw you're thinking right there. While I do agree a discount would help it, you're comparing buying an exact same version of a game to two different versions of a game.

If there was two versions of one game on the PS store, it would only share the one you bought. not both of them. Get what i'm saying?

Re: Talking Point: Considering the Paid Online Service for the Nintendo Switch

Nalverus

@jimi now you're twisting my words.

Few games on steam use dedicated servers. out of the 300+ games on my steam library i could count on my fingers how many use dedicated servers. You're calling everyone here a nintendo shill, yet you're clearly being a PC elitist. This doesn't help your arguement in the slightest. now then...

"Counter Strike microtransactions are COSMETIC ONLY."
Microtransactions are microtransactions. Income is Income. this changes absolutely nothing. You don't NEED cosmetics nor do you NEED to play online. If its something someone wants, thats that.

"But they don't. You can buy tons of games on Steam.
Just like I can and actually did buy tons of games on WiiU.
But I DID NOT HAVE TO DO THIS. No one is."

Yeah. ok? you can buy tons of games on the switch too. No store requires anything to buy stuff off their digital front.
also i think you completely ignored why i said "they don't."

"No, I never said that. You are twisting my words.
I said that I DO NOT HAVE TO PAY MONTHLY FEES to Valve to be allowed online. That's a fact. I can actually just continue playing Counter Strike and not buy a single item."

theres a difference between twisting words and saying what you sound like.

Not having to pay monthly fees, sure, but then willingly say its ok to buy optional cosmetics. Can't say i see the difference between paying for a $5 cosmetic or a $5 fee. Then again, most games on pc allow you to buy dlc cosmetics with in game money. not valve. huh. interesting.

"COUNTER STRIKE USES DEDICATED SERVER"
Gee and where do you think the funding for those servers come from. Sure as heck not their left foot.

Theres more than just matchmaking servers to upkeep. I'd sure as heck prefer them to keep their login servers and store servers up an running. Unlike how steam likes to drop out on us so much (aside from tuesday maint. thats reasonable.)
Don't even get me started on the two days my entire steam account decided to not exist. Real fun.

"So Nintendo is not selling games anymore and just giving those away?"

I don't even think my 7 year old sister could've twisted that so far from what i said. its almost laughable if it wasn't sad.

Theres a reason many games use p2p over dedicated servers and its not to just be "cost effective" as you so love to point out. I'd explain it to you but it'd just go over your head.

tl;dr - get a grip. Not everything is all roses an sunshine under the hood. Take off the rose tinted glasses and you might start to see it: all buisnesses want your money, lord gaben is no different. Doing it differently still leads to the same end.

Re: Talking Point: Considering the Paid Online Service for the Nintendo Switch

Nalverus

@jimi as a pc player to another: counter strike has micro transactions out the wazoo that people purchase out the wazoo as well. just like how tf2 survives cause of micro transactions...out the wazoo. and dota 2...out the wazoo.

what i'm saying is they get plenty of income to support such a model.

Just because PC is an open platform makes people think they can't charge. They absolutely can. They just make plenty of money and take (last i checked) 30% of the cut on ALL initial purchases from the devs. Thats a pretty hefty chunk.

You're acting like its free cause its free. Thats not true in the slightest. Valve IS getting the money to pay the servers just in a completely seperate way. Online membership is just another form of it, Valve is directly taking it from dev purchases. Theres a reason not all pc games show up on steam.

Steam is just 80s - 90s nintendo stance on companies. If something else pops up with a better deal for them chances are they might take their chance on it like they did with sony back in the mid 90s.

Re: Talking Point: Considering the Paid Online Service for the Nintendo Switch

Nalverus

@Megas Wireless is gonna lag - period with just how it physically functions. Its a radio. Its data being sent out, in pieces btw, in all directions and expecting it to be picked up by the receiver (in this case the switch) in which case things in the air it had to travel through like objects or other frequencies in the air (yes they're EVERYWHERE.) get in the way and jumble it up a bit. The receiver basically takes what it got, tries to unjumble it and take a wild guess at the parts of the transmission it didn't get. Then basically respond and it all repeats until it gets to the gateway/router where that does the same thing.

tl;dr - wireless is BAD for gaming.

Wired works because its on a physical line with nothing interfering (usually) and on a straight path.

A game needs the available bandwidth first and then it needs low latency followed by stability (no packet loss/low jitter.) to not have lag. This is why most people on the wii u was indeed lagging.

Likely due to low bandwidth AND wireless interference. The Wii U required a lot of bandwidth. Splatoon and mario kart needed like 100 kbps down and 70-100 kbps up to function properly in the bandwidth part while most games need 30 down and 20 up if they're heavy p2p.

tl;dr - have good internet, get off wireless. it doesn't matter if its usb 2.0 - you want stability over everything, heck it could be 1.0 and still be fine. It needs a direct, proper path for it to work very well.

Re: First Impressions: Taking Aim in The Colourful World of Splatoon 2

Nalverus

@Ryu_Niiyama well you also gotta look at it from the other side of the coin most people that play shooters thought that splatoon was too easy, wasn't for them, or was out of touch with what a "shooter" is. Even my cousin was pretty standfast against it and i argued with him about that for hours on end till one day i brought it over and made him play it.

He wouldn't stop playing it to the point i had to make him stop so i could leave lol. He admitted immediately how wrong he was afterwards.

my point is, while you say it tries to draw people who don't likie shooters in - the other side of the coin is its actively pushing away people who do play them a lot because it doesn't really explain just all thats going on making them think its barebones or too easy which is far from the truth.

Re: First Impressions: Taking Aim in The Colourful World of Splatoon 2

Nalverus

@Ryu_Niiyama Not so sure about that. I play shooters all the time, so does most of my friends, even the tactical ones like rainbow six siege and we loved splatoon. It just felt great to play and it did things differently.

It was easy to pick up and play but for better players, it had a lot behind it to keep people invested and to have fun for a long time. needless to say, I can't wait for splatoon 2.

Re: Pokkén Tournament Modes and Details Emerge

Nalverus

@MadAdam81 Yes. You can. LAN stands for Local Area Network. This means anything thats connected to your modem/router is on a local area network (LAN).

The fact people thought the wii u was incapable of LAN matches always killed me.

*Anything with a network adapter is capable of LAN. Its a matter of the devs coding it into the software so the hardware can make use of it.

Re: Humour: The Pain Of Being A Wii U Owner This Christmas, Summed Up In Rap Form

Nalverus

@Phle thats not so much an issue of the game but the hardware. You may not realize it, but i'm pretty sure all whats going on is taxing on the hardware. Keep in mind the cpu has to keep track of where you shot and each bullet shot has to have a calculated angle and velocity. Theres 8 entities doing that. Don't forget it also has to calculate how the ink spreads on the ground per shot. Then the GPU has to render all of that in real time with its own calculations which it has to send to the cpu, which is more processing for the cpu to do.

I feel like in that video, they're only aiming at the things they themselves hate and ignore all the good the system has. Everytime I take my Wii U somewhere its the exact opposite to that "friends reaction". They drop everything and play the Wii U.
