In recent weeks the Switch has been getting bombarded with so many new releases that we've started to think there are almost too many. Thursdays are when we see the vast majority of these titles hit the eShop and one of today's new offerings is Square Enix's Spelunker Party!
You can check out a brand new trailer celebrating the game's release below.
The game can be played either solo or alongside up to three extra players with both local and online multiplayer modes available. You follow the story of Spelunkette and her friends, exploring their way through mysterious caves, challenging enemies, and traversing over gaps and platforms. The whole thing has an attractive, 'cutesy' vibe to it that looks like it has great potential as a co-op adventure.

Spelunker Party! will cost you $29.99 USD / £24.99 and, if you want to give it a try before splashing out the cash, there should be a demo available to download very soon. Do you plan on picking this one up today? Let us know in the comments!

How did I not know about this game sooner? Price sounds a little high so I'll try out the demo to see if I'm ready to splurge. Nintendo putting out too many fun games
Shame this isn't getting physical over here but will pick this up at a later date when my wallets restraining order falls through.
Hm... Not fair.

I think we can stick on Japanese version that has Physical Retail.
Some of Japanese 3DS games also NEVER has Physical retail for USA region such as Briliant Hamster, Hello Kitty Rhythm Cooking, Teddy Together, etc.
I played the demo last week and totally liked it. Looking forward to playing the full game.
I already downloaded the demo, I think last weekend (in Europe). Haven't tried it out yet, I was planning on trying it out with a friend later.
@Pahvi
Well...
The Physical retail just ONLY Available on Japanese version so far.
Tried it and dislike it ! Not worth its price IMO.
I expected something like Overcooked or Lovers in a Dangerous Space but that's not the same fun in coop.
Just a run to the final button with a few things to collect on the road, not exciting...
Plus when you are not leading the run, you have no more thing to do except running to the end...
Run and collect.
I bought this game in April, using JP account and almost beat it., but its in Japanese. Is there's an any way now to get the game pacthed and obtain an English version? I Don't want to buy it one more time.
@crackafreeze You may have just garunteed this going on my wishlist.
@Pahvi you can import the physical from Japan
@Logen It depends on the game. I haven't bought anything from Japanese eShop yet but some games show as bought since I got them from European eShop but others can be purchased even though I have an European copy already on my Switch. For example, I can still buy Splatoon 2 from JP eShop even though I have it digitally on my Switch but Samurai Shodown and Picross S show up as bought. Picross S doesn't have an option to change language but I'd guess if I deleted it and redownloaded it from JP eShop, it would be in Japanese. I don't know if the save file is language independent so there's a chance you'd have to start from the beginning. Some games from what I heard are identical between countries (I think Arcade Archives games are like that) and some get updated with more languages when the game hits new regions. In short, you have to wait and see.
@Late Thanks for your reply, will wait and hope.
Can never have too many coop games.
It's a nice game, but it's definitely not worth it at this point, especially at that ridiculous asking price considering that it is a digital-only release. It should have been released at retail alongside I Am Setsuna during the launch period. Perhaps then it may have stood a chance as the Switch library was extremely sparse at launch, and Square Enix's games could have helped bring a little variety during that seemingly endless launch drought.
There are far too many superior games now that are far more worthy of everyone's attention to settle for the likes of this. As I said, it's fun and all, but it has arrived outside of Japan too little too late. Anybody considering this should wait until it's at least half the current asking price.
That said, I would definitely double dip on a physical release of the English version if it ever sees the light of day.
Anyone know if the japanese version of this game got patched with English language support?
I need a review of this game.
Loved, LOVED the demo. Already picked it up at lunch... before I realized there was a physical edition out in Japan. Dang it!
now if only the game wasn't so terrible at $30 i'd have considered it.
even though I hated the demo and many of its pretty terrible mechanics.
even my 8 year old sister thought the game was really bad. thats saying something.
Tried the demo, it's unbelievably terrible.
Was interested in this UP until I found out about Jackbox 4, and they both released the same day even! Oh well. I'll check out the demo anyways.
@Pahvi I did it with I am setsuna and it was seamless.
If that Japanese physical edition can recognise playing in a western console and be English now that it is available here, I would import in a heartbeat. Otherwise, I'll put it fairly low down on my list in the vain hope a retail version appears here.
@link3710 @GrailUK @Logen I own both the physical Japanese copy of the game and the US english Eshop game. The Japanese copy recieved an update today when this version released that updated it to 1.1 like the english game. Sadly though the game did not update to include english language. It's still japanese only. Also the english copy of the game did not load the save file from the japanese game so I had to start over to play in english.
Hope this helps.
@WillTheLion Thank you for the definitive answer then.
@WillTheLion Thanks mate. Ah well. I'll be patient and see what happens.
@GrailUK @link3710 Your welcome. I bought the game on the US eshop and then thought to try updating the Japanese version. I was excited when I saw it update thinking it might update to include english. Sadly that wasn't the case. I took the bullet for those who weren't sure.
All the same I'm having fun playing the beginning of the game again.
I loved the demo for this game!If the price were a bit cheaper I'd buy it.Ah well, I have enough games to last me through to retirement anyway..
Played this when Switch launched and really didn't like it. The fall damage was just way too low for my taste.
