Re: Talking Point: Considering the Paid Online Service for the Nintendo Switch

Nalverus

@Megas Wireless is gonna lag - period with just how it physically functions. Its a radio. Its data being sent out, in pieces btw, in all directions and expecting it to be picked up by the receiver (in this case the switch) in which case things in the air it had to travel through like objects or other frequencies in the air (yes they're EVERYWHERE.) get in the way and jumble it up a bit. The receiver basically takes what it got, tries to unjumble it and take a wild guess at the parts of the transmission it didn't get. Then basically respond and it all repeats until it gets to the gateway/router where that does the same thing.

tl;dr - wireless is BAD for gaming.

Wired works because its on a physical line with nothing interfering (usually) and on a straight path.

A game needs the available bandwidth first and then it needs low latency followed by stability (no packet loss/low jitter.) to not have lag. This is why most people on the wii u was indeed lagging.

Likely due to low bandwidth AND wireless interference. The Wii U required a lot of bandwidth. Splatoon and mario kart needed like 100 kbps down and 70-100 kbps up to function properly in the bandwidth part while most games need 30 down and 20 up if they're heavy p2p.

tl;dr - have good internet, get off wireless. it doesn't matter if its usb 2.0 - you want stability over everything, heck it could be 1.0 and still be fine. It needs a direct, proper path for it to work very well.

Re: First Impressions: Taking Aim in The Colourful World of Splatoon 2

Nalverus

@Ryu_Niiyama well you also gotta look at it from the other side of the coin most people that play shooters thought that splatoon was too easy, wasn't for them, or was out of touch with what a "shooter" is. Even my cousin was pretty standfast against it and i argued with him about that for hours on end till one day i brought it over and made him play it.

He wouldn't stop playing it to the point i had to make him stop so i could leave lol. He admitted immediately how wrong he was afterwards.

my point is, while you say it tries to draw people who don't likie shooters in - the other side of the coin is its actively pushing away people who do play them a lot because it doesn't really explain just all thats going on making them think its barebones or too easy which is far from the truth.

Re: First Impressions: Taking Aim in The Colourful World of Splatoon 2

Nalverus

@Ryu_Niiyama Not so sure about that. I play shooters all the time, so does most of my friends, even the tactical ones like rainbow six siege and we loved splatoon. It just felt great to play and it did things differently.

It was easy to pick up and play but for better players, it had a lot behind it to keep people invested and to have fun for a long time. needless to say, I can't wait for splatoon 2.

Re: Pokkén Tournament Modes and Details Emerge

Nalverus

@MadAdam81 Yes. You can. LAN stands for Local Area Network. This means anything thats connected to your modem/router is on a local area network (LAN).

The fact people thought the wii u was incapable of LAN matches always killed me.

*Anything with a network adapter is capable of LAN. Its a matter of the devs coding it into the software so the hardware can make use of it.

Re: Humour: The Pain Of Being A Wii U Owner This Christmas, Summed Up In Rap Form

Nalverus

@Phle thats not so much an issue of the game but the hardware. You may not realize it, but i'm pretty sure all whats going on is taxing on the hardware. Keep in mind the cpu has to keep track of where you shot and each bullet shot has to have a calculated angle and velocity. Theres 8 entities doing that. Don't forget it also has to calculate how the ink spreads on the ground per shot. Then the GPU has to render all of that in real time with its own calculations which it has to send to the cpu, which is more processing for the cpu to do.

I feel like in that video, they're only aiming at the things they themselves hate and ignore all the good the system has. Everytime I take my Wii U somewhere its the exact opposite to that "friends reaction". They drop everything and play the Wii U.

Re: Zelda Fans Vent Anger At Nintendo of America Over Doge Memes In Tri Force Heroes

...Its just text. Its not insulting a person, its not attacking their family, an its not offending their loved ones.

Its just four words an two periods. You read it, you move on.
At this point though, I've already lost faith in most of humanity and don't expect much as they whine about anything.

Its times like these I hate being american because all the comments from other nations calling us stupid is pretty true.

Re: Poll: We Want Your Views on Splatoon Version 2.0

Nalverus

So I tried deleting and redownloading the update. If the update was what caused it maybe it was just a bad download. That may have been the case as i've been playing for two hours now with only one "connection unstable".

So i've you've tried everything else, delete an redownload the update. Still waiting on my usb ethernet cord to get here to hopefully get rid of the issue completely.

Re: Poll: We Want Your Views on Splatoon Version 2.0

Nalverus

@JacketsNest101 because that would only help with actually getting into a match, not the d/c errors thats kicking people out of matches.

DMZ would set you to NAT type 1 which is no firewall and completely connected to the internet. This just means your NAT is in a perpetual state of Open. So thats all it'd fix: Increasing your chances of connecting with more players.

Re: Poll: We Want Your Views on Splatoon Version 2.0

Nalverus

@JacketsNest101 Actually, theres only a matchmaking server. Any in game connection is fully P2P.

oh, and DMZ is to open all ports. It only affects actually connecting to a player, not staying connected to them. its port forwarding for dummies or its best used on consoles for people that play a wide array of games that use various different ports. It would just be a hassle opening each an every single one seperately. You'd run out of space to open ports in the modem/router.

TL:DR - Matchmaking server only. P2P in matches. DMZ only port forwards all ports, does not have any effect on stability.

Re: Poll: We Want Your Views on Splatoon Version 2.0

Nalverus

@shani Because i'm actually IT. To prove a point, i've gone to competitions back when I was in high school. Trust me, I know what i'm doing. My line is jitter free, packet loss free, completely stable, and most certainly capable.

If it was working perfectly fine and then completely breaks after a patch, then you tell me how thats my fault. ALL of my friends have this issue. Theres no way its our fault, something was messed up in the recent patch. They changed how the netcode works, and i'm certainly hoping its just my wii u's wireless (even though literally everything else runs perfectly fine as is, smash included.)

It never hurts to try a wired connection, I don't like just giving up. Especially considering I already sunk 60 into the game.

Re: Poll: We Want Your Views on Splatoon Version 2.0

Nalverus

Oh i'd love the update if the game DIDN'T WANT TO D/C ME FROM EVERYTHING NOW! rant/rage

Constant d/cs, people that become invicible until either I die/They die, and more frequent lag. I'm not sure which is worse. Hopefully the usb ethernet fixes this issues or i'm not gonna be a happy camper.

Re: Freedom Planet is Speeding Onto the Wii U Soon

Nalverus

Its certainly an amazing game in its own right (owns it on steam).

Is worth the wait for sure for the ones that haven't played it. I only wish it was a bit longer v.v but man was it a blast on the first run through with each character.

Re: Video: Check Out the Official Trailers for the Nindies@Home Games

Nalverus

I own Freedom Planet on steam and I really have to say that if you guys don't keep your eyes on that one, you're absolutely crazy.

its like a mix between sonic, gunstar heroes, and ristar. If you played any of these games, you'll love this game for sure. I'll be seeing for myself how the wii u one holds up, but they was pretty recent on getting the pc one to 60 fps.

Re: Review: Don't Starve: Giant Edition (Wii U eShop)

Nalverus

@andreoni79 the game runs exactly like the PC version, I say this from experience. The only difference is that now theres a second map always in view on the gamepad and the off tv play. You can still bring up the map the normal way (- button for wii u) which also pauses the game while you're looking at it.

of course, theres still the actual pause function which lets you change settings, etc, and save and quit. It takes a bit of getting used to at first using the right stick to move through inventory instead of going for the dpad but when you adjust, you'll be pretty much free flowing through everything naturally.

Re: Review: Don't Starve: Giant Edition (Wii U eShop)

Nalverus

@andreoni79 well thats somewhat not true. you use the right analog stick to move between your inventory in real time, but if you get lost in your own inventory pressing ZR pauses the action and brings the inventory into a bigger view so you can organize your stuff or just find what you wanted.
