@Rexx you may continue to punch in the dark. I'll not play your game, Deputy Justice. But instead of being "real," I ask you, "Have you stopped beating your wife yet?" Yes, or no...
@Rexx Hahaha! π€£ "Ugh." I love the predictable toxicity in defense of anything that even might be understood as a slight against the "most-accepting and inclusive" groups online. Classic. Keep up the good PR! π
@TurboTEF same here. I just hope Bertil doesn't try some sensationalist gimmick like Gunman Clive 2's ending. Your work speaks for itself, HΓΆrberg. Quality, bro π
@Superzone13 Yes, I agree. The controls are not your typical experience. But that's what makes it irreplaceable for me. That game can't be done anywhere other than the Wii U. It's really dang cool to me.
@the_beaver so... You haven't played either of the games you're complaining about? Hmm... Lemme try to simplify: Fun games are fun. Bad games suck. Zero doesn't suck. It's fun. Starlink didn't suck. It's fun. Both of those games have Starfox and crew in them. Have fun. Or, gripe, whine and have no fun. Enjoy, either way π
@Superzone13 Zero was actually pretty fun if you didn't expect a perfect and polished rehash of the same ol' Fox formula. Have you played it? Starlink is the best thing I've played with the Fox team since the N64... More of a Fox game than Adventures IMO. I'll call it a Starfox game with confidence.
Oh dang. That's my kinda game. But, please tell me those were all boss/mini-boss battles, and that the entire game isn't relentless, hardcore battles like that.
Definitely interested in Dark Devotion. Now, off to the eShop to see if I can add it to my wishlist π
I'd really love to see Nintendo adopt a dual screen Switch variation once they end the 3DS. Games like Etrian Odyssey and a port of Starfox Zero (shut up...I can dream) can't be at their optimal without 2 screens.
I love to hear news about new development from Atooi... But, uh... We've been waiting on the promise of Treasurenauts for longer than one of my children has been alive. And he starts Kindergarten next school year.
This is great. I loved The Messenger, and although it's a bit difficult for my skill level at this point in my working-adult-father-husband life, I really appreciate the efforts and finished product that is the game. I fully intend to spend more time and have more fun with The Messenger once the DLC hits.
@FlashBoomerang I actually did enjoy Gonner, and that one has procedurally generated levels... But you keep your progress (the weapon options you unlock) and so there is a sense of accomplishment. Overall though, my opinion remains about those kind of games.
"Procedurally generated." Not something that sells me a game, at all. Dead Cells may be a great game, and I'm probably missing out on something really fun by skipping it... But I just really prefer to know that an actual level-designer handcrafted the levels I'm traversing. I feel the lack of soul.
@twztid13 thanks so much for clarifying all of the minor points you were trying to make because I've been really worried about understanding exactly what you meant and the reasons why. ~sigh~
Pixel art rocks. It's an intentional choice and great one, as far as I'm concerned. One thing I'm not concerned about though: Who's guilty of "trying to cash in" on something.
The Messenger is a legitimately great, lovingly-crafted game from devs who obviously have an actual love for RetroGaming. If your enjoyment of a game is ruined by its aesthetics, I can only say that you're probably missing out on some really great gaming concepts hidden behind a style you don't care to see for whatever reason.
Oh well. Different strokes.
Not everyone can enjoy the same things.
Not everyone can enjoy the best things.
@twztid13 so ridiculous. Pixel art is an intentional design choice, it isn't lazy. Some people can understand that it isn't dev limitations or cookie-cutter copycat syndrome creating the demand for old school sensibility. As realistic or HD as many mainstream games are, they largely fail to deliver the flow and rhythm of classic platformers. Any that's the biggest draw for many fans of the medium, myself included. Team Cherry really figured out what they loved and experienced as kids, and they put together the best ninja anything that's been produced in the last 15 years with The Messenger.
I'm getting The Messenger, no doubt.
But I reeeeeeally want it on a cart with some kind of goodies like the Nicalis published indies.
I'm really torn here...
@JoakimZ my advice: Do not start with the Etrian Odyssey: Untold series. None of the later, original-to-3DS Etrian games have the story-focus and character development of the Untold games, and that's always a let-down for me when I take a chance on the newer games with an overworld.
Will subscribe. Will also read way too many pissy, whining mom's-house dwellers complaining about how much better Microsony's online is because they have meaningless achievements.
NLife, you do realize that "advertising" the fact that the devs are the types who have no problem using "soulslike" as a legitimate adjective does their streetcred a major disservice... I mean, if that's not the Dark Souls of taglines, I don't know what is.
It's all due to the sudden inclusion of some upcoming DLC in the vein of the Shaq Fu DLC... But this one was naturally struck down by Nintendo because of its name and apparent content: Captain Don and the Orange Galactic Uprising.
Forget Waluigi as a Smash character. I want a great Waluigi platformer in the vein of Warioland Shake It! Give the loser a dang game of his own already!
@PanurgeJr and how does that relate to my point about actual, handcrafted world design versus a soulless algorithm? It seems to me that you're making a different, unrelated point.

Not according to Starfox Zero or Starlink; Starfox sales. Starfox fans can't whine one bit.
