Physical game releases on the Switch don't appear to be slowing down, with a listing by French video game retailer Micromania revealing Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove is the next title heading to stores.
The retailer's website has Yacht Club's title priced at €44,99 (roughly £40 / $50) and scheduled for release in the middle of March next year. The Treasure Trove collection is currently comprised of three adventures including the original Shovel Knight game, and the Plague of Shadows and Specter of Torment expansions.
This current listing for the physical game would follow the release of the fourth and final quest - Shovel Knight: King of Cards - scheduled to arrive later this year. The new expansion will be available as a free download for owners of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. With any luck, the physical version will be the definitive edition featuring all of the game's content on a single card and no downloads required. Shovel Knight was first released in store on the Wii U and 3DS.
Have you been holding out for the physical release of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove on the Nintendo Switch? Are you a fan of Shovel Knight? Tell us below.

Since I already have it all on digital, I will not get the physical copy.
Just release king of cards already!
If King of Cards is included on the cartridge I will triple dip on Shovel Knight.
@nintendobynature I 2nd that! This will be my final game I play on 3DS, so let's get King of Cards going already!
@nintendobynature For real. I’ve got the amiibo preordered and really want to know when I can get my hands on them!
@MeloMan I tried getting into plague of shadows and wasn't crazy about it. Absolutely loved spectre of torment and the original so I'm sure I'll dig king of cards.
Holding off for physical. Unless It had a hollow knight style discount from this week...
It hasn’t.
I love physical
@MH4 I hear you! Wasn't king of cards supposed to be released early 2018? I vaguely remember seeing that a while back..
It's about time.
I've held off on buying the Wii U and 3DS versions in anticipation of this. My Shovel Knight amiibo will finally be put to use.
Sounds rather pricey, but then again, Yacht Club has probably lost a great deal of money, having to support the game with three post-launch expansions at free price for the original buyers since the base game released FOUR years ago.
I highly respect how dedicated they've been to fulfilling their Kickstarter promises, but I kinda wish they could just move on to their next new project already.
Yes!!!! I own it on WiiU but have really wanted to double dip for the Switch version. I was hoping a physical release was coming, so I kept holding off. Great news!!
@nintendobynature It was. I wonder why it got delayed. Oh well, as long as the delay made it a better game overall I don’t care.
However as an amiibo collector I’m getting a little impatient lol.
I’m glad they waited until all expansions are released, I will definitely get this since Shovel Knight is one of my favourite games ever
great news - holding off since the original release on Wii U - besides the main campaign, I haven't played any of the other DLCs - so it justifies a physical release.
@nintendobynature yep, then was delayed to summer 2018. I have a feeling it won’t be out by the summer’s end...
@ShadJV Interesting, it may be wishful thinking on my end but how great would it be if it drops during the nindies direct on Tuesday? I can actually see it happening
I have a physical copy of the game on Wii U, still sealed actually.
And it'll probably stay that way considering it's Wii U.
I'm curious to see if Yacht Club Games will stay true to their older platforms and release the final part of the treasure trove on all of them, I'm faithful that they will.
Whilst I don't need a physical copy of Shovel Knight for Switch, I'd love to have it. I usually go to the 3DS version to play.
40 pounds really ?
@RupeeClock Well, Wayforward did with all the Shantae Half Genie Hero DLC, including the surprise one last month. Seems likely and more than possible Wii U will get any remaining Shovel Knight DLC.
@vitelus Probably some other physical goodies to go with it too.
@Angelic_Lapras_King that should be the case otherwise definitely a bit expensive
@vitelus At the very least, it should have a CD, maybe a poster and some special packaging, maybe even a steelbook to really justify the price.
Hell, there's meant to be a 3 pack of new amiibo too. Might also be a good chance for a decently priced bundle (Maybe not £40, that would be a bit low for Amiibo standards but about say £50 for game and all 3 amiibo?)
@nintendobynature don’t get your hopes up. Shovel Knight is multiplat so it releases on Steam and other consoles at the same time as Nintendo consoles, and they’ve always announced content update drop dates ahead of time. It’d be rather strange for them to center this expansion around Nintendo’s Directs specifically.
@ShadJV very good point didn't even think of it that way.
I think the price is just a placeholder. Just like the cover art can't be anything close to the real thing (where is King of Cards ?)
Thanks Yacht Club Games for daring delay the release and make it an even better game, when you could have rushed it and cashed in on it earlier. I honestly can't see myself get bored with the game(s) and would love it to keep going... (paid DLC, maybe ??)
@ShadJV @nintendobynature Didn't Specter of Torment pop up on Switch before any other system ? They might do it again.
As some people already said, as long as King of Cards is on the actual cart - I'll gladly buy the game once again!
Already got it digital on Wii U and physical on 3DS, but will gladly pick it up on Switch as well, as long as it truly is the complete package.
@Tibob beats me. I honestly just got into shovel knight this past year so I'm new to it all.
After the unfortunate fate of the Wii U, I made a decision to make my switch purchases Physical. I’m over the moon if this happens and I will deffo get it
@Tibob true, that is one exception... so I’ll relent it’s possible, you’re right. I find it unlikely though, it was released on Switch due to the system’s launch timing, the update was ready so they pushed it out earlier for Switch to capatilize on the publicity of being a “launch title”. I don’t think that special treatment will be repeated here, the eShop has plenty of competition now and they will want to make their entire audience happy. It’s certainly POSSIBLE, and I admittedly forgot about Specter doing that... but I still wouldn’t get my hopes up here.
Have it digitally on 3DS and physically on Wii U, and I will get this new cart. Been wanting on my Switch as I haven't played Specter of Torment yet and I want all the great indie platformers on switch carts. Already have Runner 3, SteamWorld Dig 2, Yoku's Island Express, the End is Nigh and Dead Cells. This, Hollow Knight (which I'm holding out for to finally play), BloodStained next year. Hoping for Celeste, too.
Just to say an important thing about the price because Micromania is really expensive when it's about games brand new.
So, if you consider that they have priced Shovel Knight at 44.99€, the "normal" price should be more around 34.99€ elsewhere.
Here in France, a lot of people call them "EscroMania" which I would translate from the French to English as "MiCrookMania" !
Will probably be announced at the nindies direct!
bout time I just knew it was inevitable. sold the ps4 before clocking it so now I will be able to finally save the day!
This would be the third time I purchase Shovel Knight.
If it get it, it'll be because of a really good deal that I can't pass up.
Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove Complete Edition Deluxe: The Devinitive Edition EX: Director's Cut
If King of Cards and the battle mode are on the cart then sure... I'll buy this game for a fifth time.
If it is complete and has King of Cards on it, I'll put my money where my mouth is. I waited all this time to get Shovel Knight. Never owned any version of it because I wanted to put my money down only for the complete, definitive thing. This one if it does indeed come out with King of Cards will be awesome to have. Previous physical releases will look kinda ridiculous now, so if it is indeed complete, I WILL get it, as long as it comes out at retail and not in a super limited print pre-order only nonsense from outside the EU.
One of the few times where I’ve bought the game digitally, and will probably buy the physical version as well.
@DreamerDC Only one game has ever gotten both a digital and physical purchase from me, and that's Splatoon 2. When you play it practically daily, there comes a point where it's just not worth not having it digital.
I've had it since day one digitally on Wii U, and I wanted the physical copy but just couldn't justify buying again. But as soon as I got a switch I have been hoping they'd do a definitive version physically!! I'm ready!! Also... When is King of Cards going to be available?!
I don't own the Treasure Trove so if the physical version does come, especially with the King of Cards, that would be a day one buy for me!
@Not_Soos something to keep in mind I guess is that they’ve continued to sell copies over those four years (including new platforms), and the DLC they had added would have contributed to those sales. Personally I grabbed it digitally on the 3DS but only played a bit. Since getting a Switch I’ve been holding out for a physical copy as have others so there’s still plenty of money to be made on the release.
If the strategy was a huge financial burden I’d expect them to drop the final dlc or half arse it, but it doesn’t appear they’ve had to.
I have it digital on my 3DS but been waiting for a physical Switch version. I'll be a patient a bit longer and snag it when it finally releases. If it doesn't include the last bit of DLC on the cart though, I'll just get a Steam sale version.
I've lived in France most of my life and Micromania is reliable.
@nintendobynature plague of Shadows is kind of hard to get into it because the character gameplay is so different but after a while with some of the upgrades it gets top notch (my favourite of the 3 campaigns!)
@ShadJV I am pretty sure the last one release first on switch (at switch launch)
@Balta666 maybe I'll give it another shot then. I only played the first level and put it down haha
For that price I'm not sure at all. I got the original one for Wii U, maybe that's why I'm not too keen on spending that much for it. I'm still saving for Octopath, and DaemonX. For great action platformers, I'm fine right now with Hollow Knight and Dead Cells.
@nintendobynature I think it would be smart to give it another shot. Some games that I love now are games I didn't like much at first. Plague of Shadows is my favorite campaign of the three so far though I love all three. It does feel weird initially since the game's mechanics are so different. Also, some of the items and upgrades you can get early in the game can really change things up. Plus, the game's writing is fun, especially with how things tie together with the main game. If you still don't like it, that's fine. At least you'll be more certain. If you end up liking it this time, you get to enjoy a new game you already have.
@sdelfin well put thank you. I'll get back in soon!
@Balta666 this has already been discussed in the comment thread.
@nintendobynature I hope it is soon, I feel like it won't be until December though to coincide with the Amiibo 3 pack release.
I just have Shovel Knight on the WiiU so I would be tempted to pick up a physical edition of Treasure Trove.
