Indie developer Atooi has shared its plans for 2019, providing us with updates on its current Switch projects and hinting at some exciting things that are still being kept under wraps.
The studio, which has already released the likes of Mutant Mudds Collection, Soccer Slammers, and Xeodrifter on Switch, looks set to have plenty more goodness for Nintendo fans in the coming months. The news comes from a blog post shared by founder, Jools Watsham, which kicks things off with an update for Chicken Wiggle Workshop - a complete overhaul of the 3DS' Chicken Wiggle.
"Chicken Wiggle Workshop is looking fantastic! Michael’s new artwork for the game is amazing, and the new music that Perry and Grant have created for the updated soundtrack is incredible. Playing the game now feels like a new experience. It’s so exciting. And that’s not all we have planned for the game! This is why development is taking longer than originally estimated. I want the Switch release of Chicken Wiggle Workshop to be nothing short of perfect. And it will be! More news on what new goodies we’re adding to the game soon! I think you’ll agree that it was worth the wait when that magical day is finally here. Thank you for your patience."
Treasurenauts is also said to be making "slow, but steady" progress - a 2019 release date isn't confirmed just yet, but Watsham is "confident" that great progress in its development will be made this year - and the post ends with a tease of things to come. A brief mention is given to "at least one physical Switch release" and "one new little gem of a game", but those particular details are being kept secret for now. More news will be shared in the future.
Are you a fan of Atooi's work on Switch? What do you hope to see from this mystery physical Switch release? Let us know in the comments.

I love to hear news about new development from Atooi... But, uh... We've been waiting on the promise of Treasurenauts for longer than one of my children has been alive. And he starts Kindergarten next school year.
I'm really looking forward to Chicken Wiggle's release, for the exact reasons I skipped it instead on 3DS.
I skipped it "because Nintendo already got us covered", so I'll buy it on Switch "because Nintendo won't". Hint: there's even a builder outfit for Mario in Smash Ultimate...
Can't get excited over this company's releases. They feel so smartphone.
@Baart I can't speak for Atooi's other games, but Xeodrifter is a lot of fun. It's a bit pared back compared to other metroidvanias, but that's exactly what I liked about it at the time. It's a nice bite-sized game that feels great to play through in a few hours. Also, the HD rumble in it is fantastic, one of the best non-Nintendo games to utilize it.
Dementium I+II physical on Switch?
@Baart
Might be because Atooi is the "more retro-ish" half of Renegade Kid once the latter split up. I don't mind their retro-inspired visuals, personally. Especially since, again, Chicken Wiggle is going to fill one pretty wide gap.
Unless the Mario Maker sequel is announced before CW releases, this time the sales are going to be five times bigger than the original on 3DS. At the very least.
shoulda stayed with the retro pixelated look it had before. i do not care for the flash flat internet phone game look. makes it look like it was just thrown together. At least for the bird. The level design looks fine.
oh yay another upcoming physical. if its anywhere near as good as mutant mudds I will be very happy
@Baart xeodrifter and mutant muds are amazing
Atooi is my favourite indie dev. Never disappoints. Really looking forward to playing CW again.
I really enjoy playing Mutant Mudds I purchased both titles on 3DS and Switch I've not tried Chicken Wiggle yet . I like their games on 3DS more because they make perfect use of the stereoscopic 3D effect looks perfect in MM and Xeodrifter. It would be good to finally play Treasurenauts, though I would most definitely like to play it on my 3DS more and it's not coming to the 3DS now which is a bummer in my opinion but it will be cool to see how it turns out if it ever gets released, its been in development so long now I forgot about it. Hope the best for them and hope 2019 is a great year for them . Would love to see another sequel for Mutant Mudds get announced that would be awesome.
@Travisemo007 If I'm not mistaken, both art styles will be available in the Switch version.
I feel like Atooi has dropped off the grid a little bit ever since the Switch arrived, mainly because back on the 3DS and Wii U truly quality indie developers were fairly uncommon and with the Switch having almost too many awesome indies they have been pushed to the wayside which is a shame because they were one of my favorite indie developers back then. Hopefully this next gem of a game as they call it has them regaining some traction.
I pretty much love anything Atooi/Renegade Kid has done. But I must say, Soccer Slammers is impossible for me to get my head around. Out of the five or so matches I've played of it, I've probably only scored 5 goals. So freakin' tough!
I really enjoyed Chicken Wiggle. It was worth the price of admission just for the developer levels. It was fun (without being frustrating). The coins are fairly easy to collect and finding the F-U-N letters was a nice extra bonus challenge.
I never made my own levels, but enjoyed the more popular fan levels. The Switch screen size should make level creation easier to use.
@NImH I am ok waiting if they keep adding to it and make it better.
I backed it on Kickstarter, so I will be double dipping for CW.
@Jokerwolf you'll wait even if they don't.
@Travisemo007 I backed the game on kickstarter. You’ll be able to switch between both visual styles on the fly. Kinda like Wonder Boy.
Excited to play this since Mutant Mudds compilation was really fun
Im pretty bummed Treasurenauts was cancelled on 3ds but I guess 3DS was hit and miss for Atooi/Renegade kid. Gotta make money to pay the bills, thats for sure. I have enjoyed many of the Renegade kid titles. Im sure the Switch games will be high quality.
@BensonUii : I'm aware of the Renegade Kid split. We never hear of the "other side" though.
@Gorfvic20 @brandonbwii Thx for the heads up!, thats great to hear.
