Sonic Mania is a release that, for some retro Sonic fans, is right at the top of a Switch eShop wishlist. Developed by talented Indies with backing from SEGA, it features Sonic, Tails and Knuckles dashing through a mix of old, new and remixed stages.
The latest video showcasing the game focuses on Chemical Plant Zone Act 2 - check it out below along with a couple of screenshots.

This modern version of chemical plant looks great, but I didn't enjoy this level back when playing Sonic 2.
Kept dying on the moving platform on the third stage before the boss battle 😡
AWHH YESSS was one of my favourite levels in Sonic 2! Gimme Hilltop Zone too and we're set!!!
Love it!
Wow, event though the setting is familiar, its such a fresh take on it that it just looks like a blast and I can't wait to play it on my Switch.
Nice work here! Loved the music either!
It was far form being my favorite level on Sonic 2 when I was a child, but I ended up liking it on Generations and when revisiting it as an older gamer. Must say it has its personality and creativity on design in its original form, but here they remastered/remade it to 11!!!
Getting too much hyped , or I must say too much maniac, for this Sonic game!
These guys really are on form. This has me convinced already that it's going to be the best Sonic game--ever.
Watched and posted these earlier, they look great. Actually this is a slightly longer version of the first video but then is missing the second video.
Eh, why did I just have to tap "Load Comments" to see the comments while viewing the site on my PC?
PLEASE tell me that was just a glitch and it's not going to be a thing on the PC build of the site now. I utterly hate when I have to tap a link just to see the comments. It totally ruins the flow of these kinds of sites for me, and on some sites you can't actually go in and view replies to your old comments because of the way the site refreshes the page and closes the comments again each time you tap on a link that says someone has replied to your comment. I hope to God this site never gets that bad.
Despite being this zone giving me some traumatic experiences when I was younger, this looks really good!
Innovation and experimentation is good and all but this is the first sonic game that I have actually been excited about for years. What took them so long to go back to good old fashioned sonic?
@Meaty-cheeky This was one of my favorite 2D Sonic levels ever, except for that specific part you mentioned. Hopefully this versions removes it, as it completely broke the flow of an otherwise fast and fun level.
Easily one of my favorite songs from Sonic's history. Really love the remix.
Well, I didn't think we'd see Chemical Plant in Mania since it appeared already in Generations, but what I see here looks nice. Love the remixed music, love the new gimmicks, love the appearance of Caterkiller, Jr.
This just keeps getting better and better. Or to put it another way, it never stops being better and better.
Now all we need is Sky Sanctuary (which I'm honestly starting to think will appear) and the Genesis era of Sonic Generations - the non-3DS Sonic Generations - will be available with a modern spin on Nintendo consoles as an apology of sorts from SEGA.
Seriously, what with Stardust Speedway, Green Hill, Flying Battery and now this, the game is quickly becoming the one true Sonic Generations to rely on when it comes to Nintendo platforms.
Yes, it can also be argued that the game is relying a lot more on nostalgia levels than we would have wanted, but I'm suspecting this will have three times as many zones when compared to the usual Classic Sonic fare, especially when Genesis games are concerned. Studiopolis and Mirage Saloon are probably the tip of the iceberg: most likely, we're going to see new zones for classic platforming environments (a new snowy level instead of Ice Cap, for example, or a new mountainous zone instead of Hill Top, you name it). Many zones, many secrets, many tweaks, man... ia.
I am so totally getting this no matter what.
Looks fantastic, hope to see some great Sonic 3 & Knuckles remake levels too especially Ice Cap.
Damn, Tee Lopes knows how to make good remixes! Is it August yet?
August can't come soon enough!
@retro_player_22 I'm with you on that one, the music for Ice Cap was really cool too.
I need Ice Cap Zone in Sonic Mania, to represent Sonic 3. Sega, please! 😁
I'd like to see Ice Cap Zone and Lava Reef Zone remixed in this game.
Looked good, I liked the new stuff they threw in Chemical Plant.
Day one.
Hopefully I'll be able to update my ringtone from the original to this version.
I'm not a fan of them including remakes of classic levels but this looks pretty fresh.
I did not find the music as catchy as the music for the same type of zone in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for Sega Genesis systems.
Omg YES. I'm yelling "YES" like an Herbal Essence commercial!
I seriously will finally buy a Switch just for this (and Blaster Master Zero even though I already own the 3DS version.)
This is a day one purchase for me. Sonic Forces... we'll see.
This is really making me want to break out the old sonic games one more time.
This is the sonic game i've been waiting for
@Meaty-cheeky Or whenever you actually make it to the boss and the floor panels flip out on you
Hmm, this is quite different from the Chemical plant I know and love. Nice!
This looks and sounds so good.
@SEGATA_DREAMCAST
I know the flipping panels during the boss flight were so annoying 😑
