Re: Reggie: Nintendo's Transition From Switch Will Be A "Significant Challenge"

MinervaX76

@koekiemonster Sony actually thought they were guaranteed to have a wildly successful PS3. Microsoft too was equally blind about the XBox One. Nintendo actually thought the Wii U was going to be as popular as the Wii. They did similar with the 3DS launch overcharging because they thought it was so certain that people would buy whatever they put out there.

So yea, success can actually generate a false sense of superiority that they can’t do no wrong.

Re: Dragalia Lost To End Service Later This Year

MinervaX76

A proper sendoff would be if they removed the always-online requirements as the game service ended, but we all know that’s unlikely.

Even if they wanted to do so, the game has an update scheme for every mission that would require them forever to keep on hosting update servers, something that is obviously out of the question.

Re: Square Enix Is Looking Into More HD-2D Remakes Of SNES Classics

MinervaX76

Between 1997 and 2000, then Square Soft releases soooo many fantastic RPGs for the PlayStation. If HD2D is easy and fast enough, I would be all too happy if they went back to that bombardment of games.

Really miss those days, when we would get handfuls of JRPGs from them every year, instead of one entry every few years. Not every game needs to be super photo realistic rpg open worlds. In fact, some of the most memorable are just fun stories with charming but low key art styles and scopes.

Re: Here Are Japan's Top 30 Best-Selling Switch eShop Games For 2021

MinervaX76

@Slinkoy1 just because you and your friends stopped playing it does not mean it “died”. It’s definitively not at its peak, but it’s still a rather active game. It’s always been more of a “play with friends” than “with randos” game, though.

When that game sells to someone, it usually sells copies among all that players friend group.

Re: Star Wars: KOTOR Is Receiving A Limited Run Games Physical Release On Switch

MinervaX76

@Smores500 the special editions usually get two waves in the same day, depending on the game they might sell out very quickly.

The regular editions don’t “sell out” because they are open preorders. They are open for a window of time and will take as many preorders as people make, close the window and just manufacture that count.

It can take a long time for the games to ship, regardless it’s the collectors edition or regular one.

Edit: it seems in this case all editions are open preorders. So, if you want to throw a ton of money at them, you should be able to without having to get up early.

Re: Nintendo Leaker Suggests Pricing Of Switch Online's Expansion Pack Could Be Tied To "Licensing Costs"

MinervaX76

I call [bleep] on this. This is likely the opposite way: they paid Sega for this because they had a budget based on charging for this expansion.

I’m sure Nintendo felt giving away N64 games at higher resolution for just 20 a month would devalue the games, and we know how Nintendo feels about devaluing their properties.

Nintendo also likely felt they undercharged for their online service, and felt adding more consoles (you bet we will eventually see GameCube) would only be acceptable under a higher cost. I also expect the eventual addition of the GBA games to require this expansion.

Re: Select Super Mario LEGO Sets Appear To Be 'Retiring Soon'

MinervaX76

As @darkswabber noted, Lego introduces new sets and retires oldest (6 to 24 month old ones) continuously. It would be non sustainable to keep introducing new sets and never to stop manufacturing old ones.

Also for anyone curious: they rarely do significant sales (15% discounts are a huge deal) and once they go out of production, even the used sets skyrocket in price anywhere you look. So if you waiting on one of these to go on sale, buy now or never.

Re: Nintendo Employee Tells Fans To Stick With The Current Switch, If They're Not "Digging" The OLED Screen

MinervaX76

The only reason I would buy this is if something happened to my current switch, like it getting stolen. But what are the chances of anyone stealing it from my car, where I left it. In the middle of the mall parking lot. With both doors wide open. Visible. On the passenger seat. Overnight? Next to none. Since no one is stealing it…. (Checks) I’ll just not buy this!

Re: Shantae's Game Boy Color Adventure Arrives On Nintendo Switch This Month

MinervaX76

@tonyp1987 limited run never, to my knowledge, does second runs. Closest they ever come is releasing for a platform they had not released for before.

I don't think the issue here are scalpers. Limited Runs are not that limited anymore, at least not the Switch ones. They have a preorder window, and so long you order within that window, they will manufacture your copy.

The problem comes when some title gets very little demand, so few preorders, and then something down the line (like a sequel) pushes demand up. Suddenly the price of that LRG release goes sky high.

Right now, if you want a physical copy, your best hope is that the game dev themselves make a deal with another publisher to make more physical releases. LRG does not make exclusive deals, so the game maker is free to make a followup edition in any way they want.

So, best bet is to try contact WayForward and see if they would be willing to make a SpecialReserve Games release, or maybe a release for another region that can simply be imported. Then cross your fingers that enogh people asked for the same.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch Pro "Will Have Exclusives", Says Insider

MinervaX76

This would not be "anti consumer", and "there would be hell to pay" predictions are wildly off point.

Any such exclusive would self limit their install base, especially if the rumors of the Super Switch being very limited supply at launch are true.

I'm sure Nintendo would like having at least one title, be it first or third party that shows how much faster the device is, a game that can only run on the new hardware, but also doubt they would do that with a big game like BOTW2 or Pokemon Legends.
