Are you a fan of Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow? Are you a fan of Blasphemous? If you answered "yes" to both of those questions (heck, even just one), then you'll definitely want to keep an eye out for The Last Faith, a Souls-like Metroidvania (or 'soulsvania', according to the publisher) making its way to Switch later in 2022.
From developer Kumi Souls Games, The Last Faith showcases gorgeous pixelated visuals along with challenging gameplay in a clear homage to Konami's seminal Castlevania series. You'll be navigating winding paths filled with deadly beasts before finding yourself toe-to-toe against huge boss creatures that will demand you make the most of your varied weaponry.
The game started off as a Kickstarter project, raising a staggering 466% of its original goal. Kumi Souls itself is a studio based in London that works semi-remotely with its development teamed across Europe.
Here's a bit more information on The Last Faith from publisher Playstack:
With gorgeous pixel art depicting an imposing gothic landscape, as well as the ferocious monstrosities that lurk in its shadows, The Last Faith delivers brutal but empowering gameplay. It earns the ‘soulsvania’ moniker by fusing a unique mix of metroidvania and soulslike elements into a powerful one-two punch.
With its rock-solid foundation of nonlinear exploration, players will discover a huge range of tools for destruction as they traverse snow-dusted mountains, deep dark forests, crypts and cities bathed in moonlight - all of which are painstakingly hand-drawn by outstanding artists who have captured the imagination of thousands of fans on Kickstarter.
Often brutal, but always empowering, The Last Faith thrives on merciless and precise combat, with a huge range of custom executions to perform. Players will unearth a formidable variety of melee weapons, arcane spells, and long-range firearms, allowing them to carve a path in their own style.
Step into The Last Faith’s ravaged world as Eric, awakening with no recollection of his immediate past. Soon he will discover he is in a race against time as his mind and conscience begins to deteriorate in front of him. His desire for salvation from this affliction sets him on a cursed mission that crosses paths with ancient religions and divinities.
We'll no doubt see plenty more over the coming weeks and months, but early impressions from the trailer certainly prove promising.

Yessss!!! It will be awesome!!!!
It looks interesting. I will keep my eye on it
How many of these games that look identical do we really need..?
It looks better than Bloodstained as well.
The gameplay looks amazing but I don't like games with this gruesome gory focus. I find it disturbing.
It looks really good, but if it is also really hard I'm not sooo interested. Blasphemous was phenomenal and still beatable. Everything harder would be too tedious for me to play.
As much as I wish Konami would bring back Castlevania, I'm just glad other developers are stepping up to fill the Metroidvania void. This looks great 👍
my cup of tea. damn that game looks awesome.
@SteamEngenius dunno about this 'we' business, but there's no such thing as 'too much' of a genre. If you're bored by them then don't pay attention to them, in which case the Metroidvania tag should be a dead giveaway that this isn't for you.
What's a Metroidvania anyways? They're just platformers that put a premium on exploration and gaining new skills, and they may or may not have action RPG elements. Dunno how it's possible to play out something that general.
@SteamEngenius
I get what you are saying (I think) but as long as these pixel things are animated well I can handle it.
Unless you mean just the Castlevania vibe in general.
I WILL say though the 'metroidvania' stuff is getting a bit long in the tooth. Kinda like 'open world' stuff. Can't we just get games that are A to B for maybe 6ish hours?
This game looks a little too much like Blasphemous, will give it a try and I hope its not a shameless rip-off
My 7 year old and I are going to have a fun time playing through this together..
All joking aside, when you guys said brutal I was thinking more about difficulty. I wasn't thinking "brutal". That said this looks incredible. The animation is superb!
@SteamEngenius Is there a lot of soulsvania games out there? Looks are one thing, there's a lot of games I could say look alike. I
Looks awesome.
Love Blasphemous.
Just finished Timespinner and started Shinsekai Into the Depths.
Keep em coming
Looks great… terrible and generic name though. It would work more as a subtitle to something else.
I (surprisingly) didn’t enjoy blasphemous, so will prob give this one a miss as it looks very similar
Can't get enough of these kinds of games as far as gameplay goes. I would like to see more that have this intense gameplay and don't need to go the grimdark/gory route all the time though.
That being said, if it plays as good as it looks it'll likely be an insta-buy for me.
@SteamEngenius as many as can be possibly be made and more.
This looks sick af. There's another pixel art Metroidvania called Lost Ruins that dropped on the Eshop the other day and it looks good, I'm waiting to see if you guys say anything about it first- is it as good as it looks?
GIMME! 🤤
GIMME GIMME GIMME
@vapeguy I missed that one! I’m going to check out Lost Runes right now.
I have been waiting for this since 2 years!
Finally!!!
Looks awesome! Still need to finish blasphemous. Adding this one to my wishlist!
I remember this article in 2019
Looks a little more than inspired by Blasphemous but we’ll see how it goes.
I want to like this game but i dont know, im not feeling it
@Vapeguy There's already a review of the game, Iooks solid, I'll get it next week.
Wow looks like a must buy to me.
I was starting to regret backing this but looks to be turning out pretty better than the other games I’ve backed.
Put it on a disc/cartridge and you have my money.
Nice. I just finished Blasphemous a few days ago and had a great time with it. Guess that's one more metroidvania checked off the list and one more added to it.
Hey Konami, stop letting these pretenders to the throne steal the spotlight. Bring back the Belmonts.
Hooray for unwholesome games!
Not to make this too PG-13 or anything, but wouldn't "the spawn of Castlevania and Blasphemous" be kind of, er, incestuous, considering the latter is pretty much already a direct offspring of the former? o_O
Too many of these types of games, too many Metroidvania games. I have huge fatigue with the genre.
For everyone that hates Metroidvania style games... Don't buy it. The rest of us love this stuff and apparently we can't get enough
Metroidvania..Castlevania, yadda yadda I used to really love this style of games but it's getting old and tiresome lately, everything looks the same. And the market is oversaturated with them. Kind of like "Roguelite" etc.. We'll see..I still may check it out.
@SteamEngenius I'll say when.
Too many Metroidvanias is a good problem to have. I love them, they're the perfect games for a gen x like me.
Blasphemous wasn't beyond my skills for it's difficulty as much as press about it put fear in me, and I'd say it could be souls-like at times, so I'm feeling this game.
It's definitely very Blasphemous! I like what I see, will keep an eye on this one.
Few games from one genre: "There should be more games like this."
Many games from one genre: "The market is oversaturated."
Looks dope, can’t wait to play this.
@SteamEngenius I'm kinda over the whole "retro pixel type" games. 2022 and they all look like they are from the early 90's.
Looks at least a bit less disgusting than Blasphemous. I love the FromSoft games but the gratuitous edginess in that game really turned me off. Hope this is better.
It's a Blasphemvania!
Will watch out for this one.
