UK physical chart data is now in for the week ending 21st August, revealing that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has lost out on last week's number one position.
Despite only seeing a 4% drop in sales week-on-week (thanks, GamesIndustry.biz), Nintendo's smash hit racer has dropped from first position to fourth; the launch of the new and upgraded Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut went straight to number one, and Insomniac's latest Ratchet & Clank and Spider-Man titles saw huge weekly sales boosts to control the top three.
Elsewhere, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD has now fallen out of the top ten, and Hades has dropped 15 places to number 23.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:

I do wonder has the UK gotten new PS5 shipments?
Also nice to see Fifa 21 again 🤣
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart back on number 2. 😁
Welcome back Sony! Nice of you to join us
Either those are PS4 ports or the UK buyers finally submit to the scalpers and bought a scalping PS5 just to play Rift Apart.
I dont get how GTA V is still at the top, I feel like anyone who has even a vague interest in the game would have bought it long ago.
@Specter_of-the_OLED Ratchet & Clank is PS5 exclusive and the linked article states that 91% of GoT sales were PS5.
Nintendo taking up only 30% of UK top 10?
They were right all along.
Nintendo is DOOMED.
Did ratchet and spider go on sale in the UK or something?
@Tharsman That was my first thought but I’m not sure they did. I wonder if there was a sizeable PS5 shipment and a lot of people bought those games alongside it.
@Andigaming 1000s of folk buy consoles every week. It's not like a set amount of gamers
Who keeps buying GTA V? 😂
@dmcc0 Which is why I add the or part.
@GrailUK I mean, are there really any games worth getting a PS5 for? Honestly.
@Chamver Nothingthat grabs my imagination. But folk like to say they have the latest thing. Keeping up with the Joneses sort of thing.
@Chamver
Well, so far only Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Planet Coaster that i can consider from PS5.
its interesting how few 3rd party games are on the list (only 3?); its nearly monopolized by 1st parties. I think that really says something about how bad 3rd party products are generally these days
@Andigaming I wonder this about Minecraft as well. Who doesn't have a copy of these two games already? Seems like a majority of interested consumers already would
This is why Nintendo opened preorders for the OLED model in the UK before any other territory, because they prioritised a market they already knew they were losing market share in. Nintendo fans love to read the stories that feature Nintendo dominating the top 10 so try not to get too salty about this one. It's reality, after all.
Minecraft on Switch has been dominating both the Japanese and UK sales charts for the last few months (and in the last few weeks in particular).
There is no doubt in my mind at this point that the game will (or has likely already) become the best-selling 3rd party game ever on Nintendo hardware, and by a huge margin. 20+ million in global lifetime sales isn't off the table at all, assuming digital sales are strong (which they should be for Minecraft).
@WhiteUmbrella
The OLED model opened preorders in all of Europe the day it was announced not because of loss of market share (the mere existence of PS5 and Xbox Series would cause Switch to lose market share compared to last year when they hadn't launched yet) but because that's how European retailers operate.
Wow, wasn't expecting BotW to leave the charts
@Specter_of-the_OLED Or, more likely that stores got a batch of stock and folk wanted something to play along with their new console.
The top three games have convinced me to get a PS5. Ghosts of Tsushima Director Cut is all on disc, and can be played straight out of the box. That's such a big deal for me.
@WhiteUmbrella
😂 Where do you get this stuff?
@electrolite77 Your emoji is close to the truth at least, if not the absolute truth. At least it has the tears, I guess.
Nintendo will be back on top next week hahaha.
Nintendo switch. Home of overpiced ports of old games and scant new 1st party titles.
Not surprised about Skyward Sword losing it's place.
Im surprised the Miles Morales game shot up, it’s pretty short. Probably because of No Way Home
Spider-Man sales are probably about to spike way tf up in the midst of No Way Home hype
@WhiteUmbrella
I don’t know why you’re so determined for Nintendo fans to be ‘salty’ or displaying ‘tears.’ That’s very odd. But going to the extent of literally making stuff up regarding Console pre-order dates because you’re so desperate for Nintendo fans to be ‘salty’ is another level altogether.
If you don’t like Nintendo, that’s fine, totally up to you, but this is a great time for Video Games. Go and play another system or on your PC. Much more productive than making stuff up on a Nintendo fansite.
@Specter_of-the_OLED
It’s because there was a big influx of PS5 stock last week. Enough that it went beyond scalper crap shoots online and some stock actually made it onto shelves (or at least it did in Argos/Sainsburys). Naturally the systems big hitters will see an uplift.
@GrailUK
Just because there’s nothing that gets your imagination doesn’t mean others are buying PS5s to ‘say they have the latest thing.’ They may see the games selection differently to you.
@uptownsoul
To be fair Sony have always treated the U.K. market really well with release dates, marketing etc. Back in the 90s Nintendo and (to a lesser degree) Sega treated the U.K. like an afterthought. Sony came in and changed that. They’ve earned the dominant position they have here, in Home-only Consoles at least.
@electrolite77 That's a fair comment. But I do know a couple of people with a PS5 that are still playing PS4 games and Fortnite. So not totally unfounded, I'm afraid.
Valhalla seems fun but I purchased Odyssey’s DLC on sale recently so I’m gonna play that first.
@electrolite77 I don't know what you think is "made up". Even if it's true that Europe had preorders open at the same time as the UK, that's still before North America and Japan, where Switch is performing more strongly than it is the UK. Your assertion that I "don't like Nintendo" is actually false. My Nintendo console history dates back to the SNES, which I owned when it was still current hardware. Subsequent to that I have owned every home console up to but not including Switch and a few handhelds too. My Wii and Wii U are still hooked up and ready to play at a moments notice. Despite not owning a Switch, I still have a collection of around 45 Switch titles, while i wait for Nintendo to produce a piece of hardware that isn't overpriced for its power level, doesn't have controllers with faulty sticks and won't bend or warp, resulting in cracks appearing in the rear casing. I love nIntendo, I don't like the Switch, especially when compared to their previous hardware which was produced to a much higher standard.
There's a certain kind of "fan" that can't stand any level of negativity aimed at their favourite console, even if the criticism is justified. It seems you fall into that category, however fans that have a more objective perspective and don't view Nintendo as if it is a football team can and will continue to point out where the modern Nintendo is failing compared to their previous standards. We're not going anywhere. For Iwata.
@GrailUK
No not completely. But then I think the idea of buying a new system for exclusives is also outmoded. Being able to play your existing library in greater quality point is a big selling point for many.
@electrolite77 I suppose given the current difficulties of the last year and a half, it has been especially important. Didn't someone (Jim Ryan maybe) harp on about them not really into old games?
@WhiteUmbrella
Methinks you protest too much.
You made up the link between Switch OLED and Nintendo’s ‘declining market share.’ At best unfounded, in reality plain wrong. Nintendo are stronger here than they have been at almost any point. You made it up.
As for the rest of that ramble I can only chortle at the idea of someone loving Nintendo so much they’d buy 45 games but skip the hardware. It could be made up, given previous, but if not fair play to you for sticking to utterly self defeating principles in refusing to buy the Switch but championing systems like the Wii and especially the slow, underpowered, poorly designed Wii U.
Likewise thanks for the chuckle in making me out to be a sycophant when during the turgid Wii U era I was regarded as a troll and Nintendo hater on here. Funny.
Look, you made something up because you seem to take pleasure in seeing ‘fans’ of a Games company shed ‘tears’ and be ‘salty’ on a website. Don’t carry on digging.
@GrailUK
Yeah Ryan has been a disaster from a hardcore POV. Saying all the wrong things about only wanting Blockbuster games and trying to dig out Microsoft for making games cross-gen then it turned out that Sony were doing just that. Their increased first party games prices look bad next to Game Pass too.
That hasn’t filtered through to the mass market yet though and probably only will to a limited degree.
@electrolite77 Indeed. That man has said precious little I can get behind.
@electrolite77 Nintendo's declining market share in the UK is made up? This despite being suggested by me in response to Nintendo prioritising a less important market for a new hardware launch, on an article that points out PS5 now outperforming the Switch in the sales charts?
This isn't the first time you've addressed me directly, as if I should leave the site or not comment just because you have deemed yourself the arbiter of what opinions should be allowed to be expressed. This is a position you hold only in your own imagination, you should cease trying to wield it, it breaks the illusion. Also, it's not really surprising that others would have labelled you a troll. To ignore with you.
@WhiteUmbrella
You made up some stuff about Nintendo’s motivation, probably made up the ‘45 Switch games but no Switch’ story, made up some stuff about me being ‘a certain kind of fan, then about me being some sort of ‘arbiter’. You clearly want to be able to put whatever made up nonsense you feel like without being challenged. You even seem upset at ‘being addressed directly.’ So yes it’s best you put me on ignore, if that’s what you want. If I could have put money on you doing so I would have done.
@GrailUK
Agreed. I really like the Sony that takes chances among the mainstream story-driven blockbusters. The platform holder that put out Jumping Flash, Kurushi, Flipnic, The Last Guy, Patapon, Locoroco, Tearaway etc. I’m not sure Ryan is a fan of that Sony.
That said having got a PS5, it’s very good. I prefer my Series X but Rift Apart is very good (if not the best Ratchet game) and Sackboy is glorious.
@electrolite77 Just as long as you know I am happy you are enjoying it. (no hate...ok...I can be cheeky...but...)
@GrailUK
😀😀 Nice one
@Carck Yeah...because Nintendo has soooo many good releases right now. like um....
@Vexx234 The fact that they had the nerve to charge full price for Skyward sword was absolutely disgusting.
In the same article where people are complaining about Nintendo releasing "overpriced ports", a $70 Sony published port is #1. You love to see it. 🙃
Good news about the Sony software though. All of the 'big 3' seem to be doing really well right now.
@Carck Well to be fair Nintendo only has three major titles coming out. One was a 10 year old port, the second being a series that hasn't really been a sales smasher, and the third being a niche game series.
Good news however thanks to the pandemic, Nintendo has managed to gotten lucky and as such, Metroid as well as SMTV will sell well.
The only thing that matters is Japanese sales charts.
Other consoles are not "the enemy" and it's silly tribalism to treat them as such. They've now found complimentary spaces where they don't really compete with one another.
The real danger is the push towards cloud streaming services and young people's increase focus on social media and potential waning interest in gaming as a whole. As enthusiasts for dedicated gaming devices, the success of any system should be celebrated.
@Carck I got both. And so far Xbox hasn't released a single next gen game. Meanwhile so y already has a couple of huge hits
First I waited for the opportunity to buy a PS5, and now that it's possible, I'm waiting for the motivation. Ratchet and Clank is not a system seller for me.
