I really kinda want that master version but I would regret spending all that money soon after so I'm gonna have to restrain myself
Saw this coming!
Do preorders usually sell out fast for Limited Run Games's releases?
I wish you could customize an order of what you want. That strategy guide book sounds awesome but for the price… that’s a lot of bread man
@Smores500 Preorders at Limited Run don't sell out! They take preorders and then produce enough to fufill all the orders. Takes longer to get your game, but it means they don't sell out.
standard edition it is then.
@Smores500 haven’t seen it happen? I think this is all before production has started.
Hmm, to get this or just wait for the remake…?
"I was going to hold off for a physical on KOTOR since I have the game digitally on Steam and the Steam Deck was set to come out soon, but with the delay, I'm tempted to just grab it on the eShop for some portable Star Wars... The thing is that I know they'll announce a physical release the day after I get it if I do cave in. I always like to go physical, but this one's super tempting..."
Cool. I’m definitely picking this one up.
@Smores500
They use an open pre-order system for the majority of Switch games now.
Though they do still sell some items as limited print, usually PlayStation games, LRG haven't been able to escape this image of only selling stuff that sells out nearly instantly (which does still happen).
@SometimesGhost
@RupeeClock
Thank you!
Can they not just...release it physically in retailers?? Star Wars is one of the largest IPs in history, surely they could afford a regular release.
Never purchased an LRG release on Switch for myself (I got Shantae, but that was for GBC), but I'll probably make an exception for this. The huge amount of waiting won't bother me, since I'll be busy with games for the foreseeable future anyway.
Couldn't they had wait for the second game to get remastered first before they do this? I want to purchase both together as one bundle.
Great, another overpriced shipping that costs almost as much as the game itself. Pass.
@Smores500 the special editions usually get two waves in the same day, depending on the game they might sell out very quickly.
The regular editions don’t “sell out” because they are open preorders. They are open for a window of time and will take as many preorders as people make, close the window and just manufacture that count.
It can take a long time for the games to ship, regardless it’s the collectors edition or regular one.
Edit: it seems in this case all editions are open preorders. So, if you want to throw a ton of money at them, you should be able to without having to get up early.
@MH4 They can. Disney owns the IP. It's a disgusting tactic using boutique publishers like this (created for INDIE games) to release something as massive as Star Wars. Shame on all parties involved.
THQ are releasing combo packs like this now at regular retail, without all the bloated shipping and other red tape and delays of LRG. https://www.gamestop.ca/Switch/Games/888040/star-wars-racer-and-commando-combo-pack?gclid=CjwKCAiAp8iMBhAqEiwAJb94z2exQWGU_PqzKtqJM1dKWvKM6ZORToFZCKF6DvauUNKc8AES_URBNRoCAMUQAvD_BwE
I'm expecting KOTOR to also get a release like this at some point, so some may be better off just waiting.
Makes me despair that Limited Run get dibs on this. Honestly. It's Star Wars. LRG act like a great company but they serious are not. So many shady practices. If you watch Switchwatch every week you'll realise not a release of theirs goes by without some shadiness. NLife keep on promoting them and don't even mention any of the bad practices they have.
So are there also gonna be double packs released in a year from now like the other Star Wars ports? Do I buy this? Or do I wait for the inevitable retail release double pack?
I’m waiting for the 2 pack. I got burned buying one of their previous Star Wars titles.
Thats that then. Guess i will just pay £11 for the digital edition.
I received my limited run Star Wars games this week….. they were order months and months and months ago…. Like ages…. And also received the same games in a much cheaper double pack….. that were released after and half the price…. Just wait for the proper shop release
@Grim my single ones arrived this week although I ordered them a year ago…. And so did the double packs…..that were much cheaper and two games on same cart. Literally double cost less than one….. LRG is a scam at this point. Save your money.
@xiao7 amen to this. They are a horrible grubby little company. I suspect they send out a lot of freebies to keep all the media outlets onside. Most of their loyal customers and I was for years have jumped ship now and do try and warn others
Oh good! I don't have internet right now and I don't know when I will be able to afford it at the moment so I'm glad the physical option will be a thing. I hate it when games are digital only. Yeah I'm a dinosaur of the yesteryears of gaming but I like my games physical. It's Kotor who wouldn't want physical? Am i right y'all?
Screw this. Im gonna wait and see if thq Nordic step in again and release it. Just got the star wars racers and Republic commando combo for less than the price of one and both games are on the cart!
I would want this, but they conned me with the others. So yea skipping it this time. LRG are just being dicks at this point. I raced a drivatar on Forza 5 yesterday called Baggad1cks and it reminded me of LRG.
As @xiao7 said, SwitchWatch does a great job of calling them out. Nintendolife really should follow suit. As an example, they are starting to get “exclusivity” over English Language releases, with Japanese release originally set to have English then removing it so that LRG can have exclusivity. And yea the Star Wars thing is just a joke.
That master edition looks pretty awesome, heck even just the physical release looks great, I like the box art.
The guide is the real kicker here. Hidden away in a 170 version.
That should be sold alone
The Master Edition is just about worth $35
@xiao7 Agreed they suck and are shady as hell
my god, those gfx details from the 90's...
gameplay is good, but graphically not worth spending more than $5 nowadays...
Already downloaded it but looks rad.
@Smores500 There's no purchase limit. You just have to make sure you did it within the pre-order window.
@Stocksy They sell physical copies of games for dirt cheap. They're a blessing to the industry.
@Stocksy I’ve only made one purchase from LRG, Scott Pilgrim, and I still have not received it lol. I’m only just getting emails saying it will be shipped. I ordered physical goods, the Scott Pilgrim zipper case and Scott keychain with the game, and it took this long for those to be produced so everything could ship together, apparently. Like I’m upset about it, but not mad cause I am through the moon about a physical copy for that game, but I don’t think I need to buy from LRG ever again
The beauty of the 2003/04 pc/XBox releases of KotOR/2, are that they could easily be modded. For Switch, it appears to be just the vanilla game, maybe with patches for bugs, or those patches will be added via later update. Either way, those tiers of packages are just ridiculous. If I get it, I'm probably going to just get it digitally, or standard physical edition. Those (tier) prices are a joke!
@Grim I got the Scott Pilgrim physical from them like 4 months ago....you may want to contact them and see what's going on
It's really sad to see what has happened to LRG. What started as a nice way to access physical versions of games that would otherwise remain digital only, has now become an oversaturated mess of releases that often get a general release a few months later anyway.
I wish they'd step back a bit and focus on a few quality releases a month that we cannot find elsewhere instead of a constant stream of, what is now, far too many releases to keep up with.
I dont see what is shady about LRG. you either buy it or you dont. there are no hidden costs or surprises, so what exactly is shady?
you can't complain about the wait either, since the game is literally being manufactured because you ordered it to be.
Some games may be released in 'general' stores later down the line, but that is not a given. its a gamble, but for sure, some of their releases will NEVER be released store wide. and plus at least you will get different art, and bonuses, if you order the collectors editions.
Digital is $14.99 and no absurd shipping fee to deal with. I’m set.
yeah no im not going to support scummy lrg
I feel like these things during a pandemic just take advantage of the average gamer. I would have been interested in getting KOTOR physically, but I don't think it's going to be worth the aggravation.
How nice of them to offer us a $15 game for $175.
Seeing as other SW games, that first got a LRG release, later got European retail releases, I will probably skip this.
To order before you order: the pre-order.
@Medic_Alert Can you show me the problem?
You have the option to buy digital. The physical limited edition does NOT hurt that in any way.
I want physical edition of the game therefore I pay for it.
The closes equivalent is eBooks vs paper books. Some eBooks are 5 times cheaper than their paper equivalents.
If this was hurting anyone is any capacity I understand it but I guess people want physical but don't want to pay more for it which is pathetic.
@Grim Special editions are shipping at later dates. Same with Castlevania. I ordered the Legendary edition or something like that and it will ship in 2022 but people who ordered the standard edition already got it.
I think I'll wait and see if THQ release a version layer like they did with the other Star Wars games
In the mean time i still have my original Physical XBOX and P.C versions
@Medic_Alert Simple supply and demand.
LRG isn't shady at all. I've pre-ordered maybe two dozen games through them and they are an indie publisher just like Super Rare Games or Strictly Limited Games. They just had more success over the last few years. 99% of their pre-orders are open for usually 4-6 weeks which is plenty of time to plan the purchase. You can also use PayPal's "Pay in 4" which allows you to pay in four payments over the course of two months. I have used this numerous times for more expensive pre-orders. These guys don't operate on a large massive scale and the funding for the productions is FROM the pre-orders which is why it takes months to get the game. You are essentially pre-ordering before the game is even being produced. They can only mass-produce on scales of 2,000-5,000 or even more depending on the type of game it is and what's included.
Honestly, the only people I see who are mad are the ones who can't afford this stuff which is fine. Just don't blame LRG or the developers for it. These releases are for the hardcore fans and the developers don't see a large enough market to produce half a million collector's editions for 90% of them to sit on shelves (or warehouses) and end up in thrift stores or massive discounts and lose millions doing so.
These are also strictly for physical game collectors. They might release a double pack of a game later, but not the collector's editions and they're always super high quality and worth the money, at least to me.
@Medic_Alert Not true. There is no supply at all. The pre-orders pay for the production costs. That's why it takes months to get the games.
@Medic_Alert Do you know that there are companies who offer reproductions of famous paintings. I mean real artists draw let's say Mona Lisa for a customer. How is that any different?
And are you saying that because LRG offers a physical edition of a game it is the reason it will never have a normal retail version?
Also Super Rare Gamer offer actual limited copies of a game where LRG offers unlimited copies to be ordered in a time period.
What you want unlimited copies to be available ALL the time?
Probably the devs/creators want LRG to make the release for which we pay. And we pay because we want it. I am paying for the production of a game cartridge, case and goodies.
For those saying they aren’t shady - see my comment #28. They are getting exclusivity for things like English Language, where you would have been able to get something from Play-Asia with English before.
Providing a physical copy of a game that wouldn’t have had one otherwise is awesome. But stripping other releases to make your own product more exclusive is the opposite. Im in the UK and have 8 LRG games so far with 3 more on order; but after this, the Star Wars con, and the fact Aspyr/THQ, ID software and Konami don’t need LRG, i’m done unfortunately (Plus shipping has increased).
@Grim : I'd recommend just waiting it out. Cheaper and more convenient too with two games on a single cart.
@Medic_Alert Every website like LRG does this. They are only available for a certain amount of time or when a certain amount of copies sell out. It costs money to produce these things in bulk supply. It's not an artificial constraint. So, are they supposed to leave the window open...for a year? When the digital or regular physical copies are already out? They also need to tell the manufacturer a final amount so they don't just have units not moving. These guys aren't Activision or EA who can pump out a random amount of games and hope they all sell. Super Rare Games and Strictly Limited do the same thing. This is just a case of "I can't afford this right now so I'm mad and hate it". You have to understand how economics work. You can't just have a massive amount of product not moving because a few gamers are mad they can't afford it within the 4-6 weeks. We're used to standard pre-orders because the publishers have YEARS in advance to put a pre-order out because they know when their end date is. These are mostly games that have already been released. I have a friend who works for a company that does similar things like LRG does (not video games) and for a small company that has maybe a dozen employees or less they are at the mercy of the manufactures in China and their requirements.
Bethesda can send out 500,000 copies of the Doom Eternal collector's edition and hope half of those sell at full price a year in advance. A small company can't do that. They'd go bankrupt with a quarter of a million units just sitting unsold. Technically ALL pre-orders are for a limited time. Some games don't get announced until a few months before release. Why are we giving LRG a bunch of crap for the same thing?
@Medic_Alert I am telling you about the painting because it is NOT a one time deal. They are produced on a large scale as long as there are people willing to give money for those reproductions
And I told you couple of times already. People are paying for the manufacturing otherwise there will be none.
Think of it as a personal request service.
One thing is to not like a business model, but to think it should not exist because "yOu dOnT lIkE" it, and actually argue about it is pointless.
@JayJ - "How nice of them to offer us a $15 game for $175."
I mean, technically it's $35 for the game, $140 for themed extras (most of that probably eaten up by the two replica lightsabers), but yeah, a bit much.
@Medic_Alert - No offense mate, but I think you're going a bit far by dismissing the extras as outright worthless trinkets and acting like it's the truth. They may seem so to you, but that's only you, it doesn't extend any further than that. If you personally don't care for the items, fair enough, that's your opinion, but if that's the case, then say so, don't try to act like it's anything more than that.
Now, to be fair, I do admit the price for the Master Edition here is a bit ridiculous, and if that were the crux of the argument (that the items aren't really worth the price being asked for here) I'd agree (as much as I love the game), but to try and claim something like "It just introduces more pointless tat into the world that will collect dust forever more." for collectors editions in general is just flat out incorrect (I mean, it's because of the extras these editions sell at all).
I'll wait for the inevitable kotor 1 & 2 physical release*

They should include a star wars magnifying glass as the text on this is impossible to read comfortably in handheld.
@ivory_soul Please stop defending the release of a DISNEY franchise through a boutique publisher like LRG, which was originally created for things like indie titles and to help creators who would otherwise never have a physical release, get one.
Now LRG is releasing Disney, Konami, Ubisoft, Bethesda, etc titles, to name a few. All multibillion dollar publishers that have no need nor business for doing this type of crap. This worrying trend is to the detriment of gamers who just want a modern, physical copy of a classic title.
@xiao7 elaborate plan
Just the physical copy, please. And was that sarcasm about acting fast? I don't think I've ever seen a six week window before. Even a sloth coud wait a month and a week and still get their order in on time.
