Everything is possible with time and sacrifices. Honestly, if it happened it would likely happen as one of the last Switch games, 2 years after the PS4/XBO release, when sales have flatlined, a point we’re a Switch port would boost sales.
Oh man, I have nostalgia for that US box but that Euro box art is nice... first time I feel the European box is not garbage (sorry, euro boxes are almost always a small rectangle inside a big black rectangle and for me that’s 🤮
I don’t understand how many of these “analysts” still have a job despite being wrong over and over and over... oh I know! Because they get clicks due to inflammatory articles that get covered by fan sites! Stop covering these know-nothings!
You should make your own opinions, even if it requires borrowing the game. For what it’s worth: I thought it was a fantastic game, could be better, but everything before it has been worse. So you just heard it here: it’s the best mainline Pokémon experience so far, on this humble posters opinion.
@Anti-Matter If Pokémon ditches the turn based system, it will definitively lose its hardcore audience for good.
Pokémon needs some evolutional changes (3 on 3 battles should be the standard trainer challenge, for example, not 1 v 1) but turn based combat is too big a part of the mainline series to get rid of it.
I could see a real time spinoff, though. We for a taken style fighting game, after all.
I find it actually inspiring that a series can sell anywhere less than a million and still not only be considered successful enough to continue development, on top that is their peek!
Always glad to see smaller developers sticking with niche series instead of going on a perpetual hunt for million copy selling fads.
Just decided to get into this series myself, hope I enjoy it as much as I expect, seems to have a perfect balance of old-fashioned RPG mechanics and modern-yet-no-hyper-realistic 3D graphics.
@BarefootBowser even worse is that in many cases the determination of validity is either done by the same people that approved it to begin with, or by a jury of people that just try to figure out what lawyers closing arguments were more convincing.
Patents were never intended to be about concepts. They were always meant to be specific to an inventions specific implementation.
If two companies came up with a kitty litter scooping device, but one was a glove and the other a plastic shovel with holes, neither should be able to sue the other over a “kitty litter scooping device” patent. Similarly, a motion capture device using lasers should not infringe a patent about one using gyroscopes or a web of cameras, etc.
If I’m not wrong, a patent was meant to be specific enough that, post expiration, anyone could just read the patent and implement the invention without having to come up with an implementation. However, since reviewers are usually more common individuals, they end up receiving vague inventions filled with jargon and just end up approving them. Then it comes up to courts to weed those out as they get abused in court, but even that weeding out often fails.
Glad this time the patent got thrown out, but I’m not as optimistic of the future.
Also: why some people seem to think this is the only monster-catching game other than Pokémon? It’s not exactly a new concept and some of the long running monster-catching games are even older than Pokémon....
I played the first game in a PS4. When I play on that machine I get obsessed with trophies on games I like. For the previous Doom, I got every single trophy, only one missing for Platinum: Beat the first level on the top difficulty.
I could not get past the first groups of enemies... this is going to be harder than THAT? What they going to do? Bumping into walls fractures your own skull killing you?
Every time I play a game oh my PS4, I make the sacrifice as I could have likely played that game with way better visuals and load times on PC.
The same goes everywhere, when it comes to graphics: PC > XBoxX > PS4Pro > PS4 > XBOne > Laptop > iPad > Switch
But all these devices offer pros and cons. With the switch I can go anywhere, same with the iPad or Laptop, but I get built in game controls. Sometimes the iPad is best. Sometimes the laptop with a keyboard is left.
The better the visuals, the more I’m locked to a cramped space. I got one XBoxX, so that sits in one room, but 3 PS4s in different rooms, still hooked to a tv, and the desktop is the most restricted on my desk.
I kinda can understand why people focus so much on the superior visuals and how playing anything else is “a sacrifice”, but for me, every single platform has sacrifices.
At the end of the day, if the game can pull 30fps and look pleasing to my eyes, I’ll play it on the platform I’m most comfortable at. That tends to mean switch or remote play from my laptop, more often than not.
@Heavyarms55 I keep seeing videos from people that do this kind of stuff, print their own covers, and they all go on details how to get and print the right size, but none say what printer they are using nor show closeups of the cover to see if indeed they look like actual factory prints. 😞
@Smigit “ Specifically the fact that anyone that owns both will also have to purchase the DLC twice.”
I have both and don’t have any plans to buy the DLC. I got the second one only in case my partner decided to play, but they didn’t. I use it just to quickly do trade-evolves and nothing else.
Even my plan of “potentially catch all version exclusive Pokémon” was a bust, I can gotten most exclusives via surprise trade or by hopping onto someone else’s Dynamax raid and catching them myself.
Only reason to buy the two packs (and the DLC for both) is if you have someone else to play with in your household. And that would be true for any game, so nothing wrong about counting both versions.
If anything, I disagree with the charts that list game sales of these games individually, but I understand since they are just tracking SKUs and don’t even care much about the title in the box.
I would, at most, be more concerned about what games are coming out in winter than what console launches. XB games will run in both machines, future proofing purchases. And similar is rumored about games like Last of Us2.
If Nintendo manages to toss either BOTW2 or Metroid Prime 4 (a game that has more overlap with the PlayStation/XBox crowd than most Nintendo games) they will have the news field covered the next gen launch window.
That said: Nintendo just announced smash DLC that will slowly be released theory [September?] 2021, so they seem to have plans to keep at least Smash audiences engaged until fall 2021.
I wanted to say this during my smash char reveal and didn’t, now regretting it: only way the smash reveal timing makes any sense from marketing perspective is if they’re is a new FE or DLC coming. And here we are.
@Xansies Have I played these games? Have you? Because... Link... you know? Shadow fighters are not always clones and can have differences. They just don’t have to be completely unique. Multiple Mega Mans could still share their Final Smash, for example.
I’m glad (and almost envious) for all the Three Houses fans out there that will love this character but I’m underwhelmed. I mean, it seems to have interesting gameplay but theme wise, it’s another Fire Emblem fighter. The DLC pack has been so out of left field so far, I expected something that would top all previous ... out-of-leftness.
Edit: I can’t stand the laugh track on this reveal...
Edit 2: Altair as a Mii costume feels like a slap in the face. Wonder if that diminishes the chances of Altair or Etzio being a fighter in the second dlc pack. Same for Mega Man X.... it should be a shadow fighter for Mega Man!
Cuphead actually looks perfect as a Mii Fighter, though...
@NinjaSyao thank you! Was about to whine about no physical releases! Would prefer a domestic version but this might do! Do we know what’s on the DLC? I mean, story? Cosmetics? Side quests?
I think strategically, given the Mario releases, it’s perfect timing for Mario 3D World, unless another Mario is due this year (could always be a Sunshine sequel or remake we get this year instead.)
As for wishes, I really want EVERY 3D Zelda on the switch, and of course would be nice to start with the WiiU HD remasters.
@Franz Oh another thing i forgot to mention earlier: with Pokemon Home you will be able to transfer these 200+ pokemon to switch if you got them on any previous game, even Pokemon Go.
@NEStalgia "I expect an "ultimate" boxed bundle of Sw/Sh including a download code"
If they just add a download code, it is all the same for me. I don't want to have to upgrade my switch memory yet again, nor do i want to keep deleting stuff.
@Franz I dont know, they are giving players the chance to get the characters via trading and that's more than others developers would do. Heck, if they released an Ultra game, only those with the new cart could get the new pokemons that get added, this is a step above the way they treated everyone in the past.
As for making money, its not like this content is developed in an evening. They need to pay the workforce that is spending all year developing this content instead of working on the next title, or would you prefer if they just made the DLC free but started selling BP piles for real money on the eshop instead?
@Franz I actually have a feeling we are not going to get a game this year.
Might be wrong, but should they be planning a Pearl/Diamond remake, marketing would had started today, even if just with a logo. I think this DLC is all we get this year, with Part 2 likely not arriving until late in the year. Next year, we likely get Pearl/Diamond, though.
I don't count Mystery Dungeon (BUT cant wait for it) as a yearly release since that is done by a different studio. It will likely be the only new Pokemon cart on shelves this year. Unless we also get a cart release of the DLC (I have both sword and shield and would buy both again if there was a physical copy that had the DLC, if only to save space on my Switch.)
As for forking $30, confused with your phrasing. I gladly pay that for more story content and new areas to go and catch Pokemon myself at (its a lot more fun than just trading them.) But if someone only care about the new Pokemanz themselves, you can always get them all through trade.
@Franz Doubt it. DLC works great but sooner or later you just need to sell a new game to recapture hype.
Just look at how every fighting game ends up doing business: release a fighter pack or two, then eventually release the next main entry with a new cut-down roster and start the whole fighter pack cycle all over again.
Hype Level: Over 9000
Crossing fingers for a physical release of these DLC+Base game, but highly doubt it. I'm sure they already realized they can get a lot more money by selling base game + Expansion instead of the old method of letting people skip a base mainline release to only buy the upgraded version.
I bought almost all exclusive games for the Wii U but skipped on this because i had no clue what it was. Took me until recently to realize it was a SMT game, it never clicked for me that #FE stood for Fire Emblem, and the ads i saw made it look like a music game of sorts instead of a jrpg.
I am now very intrigued and considering pre-ordering this version of the game, but need to do more homework on the systems for the game.
Edit: after a couple youtube vids, I'm getting this. It's unlikely I will play it anytime soon due to my backlog, but does not seem like a game that will drop in price within a year and now I want to vote with my wallet for it's success.
After shooting through the credits of Smash countless times, and seeing the number of different companies involved, I don’t think there is any major game done these days that does not have at least some outsourcing for art assets here and there.
@veesonic think it’s only a thing in few select games, and entirely implemented by the developer. Civilization does it too, as well as Minecraft, I think. And of course, some online games like Fortnite.
Been crossing my fingers for a port of the previous bravely games for the switch. I’ll take this but still want the other games (no longer know if I should call them “the first two games”...)
I guess this is how they are planning to fight the gradual decline in IAP, locking people for a full year?
It's odd that the pass seems to be specific to a calendar year, though. That might mean they will only sell it through the next few weeks, and first few weeks of 2020.
Depending on timing, it might not be that good of a deal to get a month or two into the year. Unless the year is just a marketing thing and its a 12 month pass.
There is a digital sword/shield double pack? Thought the point of the double pack was to give the other copy to a friend or for siblings... why would anyone have two copies under the same account?
Some of the biggest business moves in the world started with a lie. Very famously, Bill Gates did not own DOS the day they sat down and pitched it to IBM.
@Crono1973 To be fair: same goes to games. Only people with money to spare do that. I didnt do that when I was younger and barely could pay my bills. I do it all the time now that I am 30+ into my career.
That said, even the car industry have people that buy cars that they will never drive. It is all about income levels. It's not rare for 1%ers to have a collection of cars they have never moved from their fancy underground garages. It is good such consumers exist, as they subsidize those industries for the rest of the consumer base.
@Crono1973, in your post you made it sound like only gamers will buy things they wont consume just to support what they consider great work. It happens everywhere. You specifically mentioned restaurants (well, McDonalds... not a great example but ok) and truth is people that have the money to spare do pay for meals they will never eat all the time, by treating others in order to support the restaurants they love.
“ I have no intention of ever eating a Big Mac with bacon on it but I am tempted to buy it just to support McDonalds”
@Crono1973 you mean the way some don’t have any I intention to eat 10 meals but will still pay for 9 additional people meals so they get to spread their love of X or Y restaurant?
Loot crates have their bonuses and minuses. If you just want random stuff to make a “wardrobe” of stuff to shift trough and are not picky, loot boxes might be better (at least until you own enough stuff to make you constantly just get dups.)
If you want specific items, it can potentially mean thousands thrown down the sink to finally get the one thing you ever cared for.
I had a very similar issue. I ordered a PowerA GC style wireless controller (gold) for 25 bucks but got a wired Xbox controller instead (it had a tracking barcode for the item I ordered.) i guess there was at least a minor relationship between the item I order and the one I got, but it’s still just garbage for me. Plus wired controllers go for way less than 25, very often.
As noted, the most annoying thing is all they will do for me is give me a refund, no replacements allowed. I’m so angry this is likely the last time I will order a sale item from Amazon if I can get a similar deal anywhere else. BestBuy would had allowed me to replace the item.

It's not rare for 1%ers to have a collection of cars they have never moved from their fancy underground garages. It is good such consumers exist, as they subsidize those industries for the rest of the consumer base.
Re: The Witcher 3 Was An Absolute Mess When It Was Initially Ported To Switch
@Crono1973, in your post you made it sound like only gamers will buy things they wont consume just to support what they consider great work. It happens everywhere. You specifically mentioned restaurants (well, McDonalds... not a great example but ok) and truth is people that have the money to spare do pay for meals they will never eat all the time, by treating others in order to support the restaurants they love.
Re: The Witcher 3 Was An Absolute Mess When It Was Initially Ported To Switch
“ I have no intention of ever eating a Big Mac with bacon on it but I am tempted to buy it just to support McDonalds”
@Crono1973 you mean the way some don’t have any I intention to eat 10 meals but will still pay for 9 additional people meals so they get to spread their love of X or Y restaurant?
Re: The Witcher 3 Was An Absolute Mess When It Was Initially Ported To Switch
@The-Chosen-one because obviously the Switch is a disaster with next to no games and rotting in the shelves.
Re: Psyonix Removes Loot Crates From Rocket League, But Not Everyone Is Happy
Loot crates have their bonuses and minuses. If you just want random stuff to make a “wardrobe” of stuff to shift trough and are not picky, loot boxes might be better (at least until you own enough stuff to make you constantly just get dups.)
If you want specific items, it can potentially mean thousands thrown down the sink to finally get the one thing you ever cared for.
Re: People Order Switch Consoles From Amazon, Get Hilariously Random Items Instead
