The upcoming Square Enix release, Dragon Quest X Offline, is set to arrive on the Switch on 26th February 2022.
In the lead-up to its launch, the game's producer, Takuma Shirashi, has been answering fan questions about what to expect from the "offline" version. Perhaps the most interesting detail in recent times is that players will actually be able to link their offline game with the online version and transfer their data.
Here's the full translation of Shirashi's explaining how data transfer will be available once the offline version is cleared (thanks, Nintendo Enthusiast):

"We plan to add data transfer from Dragon Quest X Offline to Dragon Quest X Online through a Spell of Restoration. After clearing the offline version of the game, you’ll get to use the Spell of Restoration. Doing so will allow you to start the online version with your job at level 70."
It sounds like it'll be a neat feature for players who do have access to both the offline and online version of Dragon Quest X. Unfortunately for the west, the MMO Dragon Quest X has never been localised, and right now there's no word on a local release for the offline version.
Fingers crossed we hear an announcement for western regions in the near future. If we do hear any updates, we'll be sure to let you know. Would you be interested in playing the offline version of Dragon Quest X on Switch? Comment below.

It would be such a waste for this not to be localized and released worldwide especially with the fame the DQ series garnered with the success of DQ11! Please SQENIX🙏🏻
@blububbles_ Even the online game was never localized. So don't get your hopes up.
Desperately want this to be localised but you’d think they would have announced it by now. I’m sure Square Enix wants Dragon Quest to be bigger in the west but it really needs to go all in, and treat every game like a global release.
Well, better start to study Japanese language to enjoy Japanese version only games.
Get to used it.
Square Enix is holding out for Nintendo to translate and release Dragon Quest X Offline outside of Japan.
Thats very cool wish more mmos do this
Every article that starts with "Dragon Quest X Offline" but doesn't end with "Is Getting Localised For The West" is a slight disappointment. 😢
That’s really a cool feature. And a nice marketing hook.
Welp now we know why this won’t be localized. Despite being offline it still has ties to the online version.
Horrible looking game!
Where’s the DQX we had before you’ve destroyed it!
@blububbles_ Fat chance, Westbound DQ fans have been clamoring for a localisation of DQ X for almost a decade now, with little result. Although DQ has had some succes in the West and online gaming remains popular, Square just can't be bothered it seems.
Still hoping for some new DQ ports for Switch as well as a localisation of DQ X online and/or offline. (งツ)ว
It's strange at least that they haven't said anything about releasing X offline here. I still hope they'll do it! DQ is a popular series in the West too, so there's no reason for it to be locked in the east.
Find it so odd they go for the super deformed/chibi style when the online game, that ran on a Wii, had DQ8/11 style character design.
I have a love/hate relationship with every headline I see regarding Dragon Quest X Offline. Until I see "Confirmed for the West" or something to that effect, said relationship will persist. Not sure that's healthy.

Localizing an online game isn't a comparable task to localizing an offline game, even with the same content, simply because in an online game you need to maintain a level of agility that allows you to patch frequently. Remember that localization is not translation ... it's a complete story rewrite most of the time so that the themes presented line up with the culture they are presented to. On top of that you can have art assists changed, like how Realm Reborn shows different table settings in the localization and changes some items that people in the west wouldn't recognize.
The idea of having to call up a localization team any time you want to change your MMO is daunting, given that localization generally takes twice as long and can cost about as much as developing a game in the first place.
But for an offline game ... who cares. Just localize the initial release and then keep your English game a few versions behind your Japanese one. Have a translation team handle simple stuff and if they tell you something needs further localization ... just don't release it in the west.
Add that to the fact that they had no problem saying "we have no plains to localize the MMO ever" in the video but didn't say anything about not localizing the offline version, I would say it's still a possibility. Also the steam release is odd. Not only is steam pretty unpopular in Japan, but Square has it's own online distribution platform that way more people use. A steam release is a good sign the game plans to release in the west.
While I'm not a fan of the visuals, I'm begging for even this sad scrap of DQX for localization just so I can say I've tried them all.
I do own a physical copy of the Wii original, as I own a physical copy of every Japanese DQ game, but I do want to be able to play it some day.
I've never wanted to play a Dragon Quest game online but I certainly want to play all the offline games!
@Arawn93 Exactly my thoughts. I feel like planned connectivity/compatibility makes a localization even less likely.
I still wish Square Enix would launch DQX Online in the West, but at this point it's just a fantasy.
“ Would you be interested in playing the offline version of Dragon Quest X on Switch?”
Yes, in a heartbeat.
Hori has said in old interviews that he wanted to do an offline version for the west. I think the entire point was to bring it west in the first place. Just wait for the announcement. It’s coming.
